Adobe Audition Volume Levels Not Matching

Hello everyone. I have a quick question and have been looking the answer for quite a while. I seem to not be able to find it thought.
Every time I export let's say a multi track mix down from audition, the volume seems to be lower than the original track. Mind you I have not compressed to a lower format, I always keep everything same as source (which in my case is 48000 Hz, 32-bit, 320kbps CBR) (sometimes I force the entire project to conform to the settings mentioned above by manually choosing them in the export dialog). However, if I play the mix down version of the exported song next to the actual song itself, the original always sounds much louder than my exported file. why is this? This is very frustrating as I feel my mixes aren't coming out to their full quality potential. There is always degradation in volume. I always make sure that my master volume is set to 0db so that it isn't louder or quieter than the original. I have to up the damn master for the entire mix in order for it to sound as loud as the original. I don't want this thought because it messes with my audio levels for some/most of the transitions.
Should I be exporting the mix down as an uncompressed wav, then compressing to mp3 using a different software?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. And apologies for the noob question.
Thank you

By default, there is a –3dB drop in amplitude when mixing in Multitrack View.  You can change this behavior permanently under Preferences > Multitrack > Default Panning Mode  by choosing Left/Right Cut (logarithmic)
This is based on the concept of Pan Law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan_law) which prevents unintentionally loud volume increases when a signal is panned in the center of a stereo field.  The Wikipedia link goes into much more detail.

  • UCCE 8.5.3/8.5.4 call volume statistics not matching in interval tables

    hello,
We have just migrated a call center to UCCE 8.5.3 that runs roggers and ICM call flow scripts that contain very basic flows. In each flow there is basically a one-to-one ratio of call type elements to select skill group elements.
Generally you would expect the call volume (as our scripts are written) to have almost the same call volume in the call type interval table and the skill group interval table, with allowable differences because of RONAs, etc. But basically somewhat close.
In general this does work but after a reboot of the roggers (A and B sides) (logger down first, then router and reversed to start), the skill group interval data lags greatly from the call type interval data, meaning maybe 10% of the call type interval volume. We have learned that completely shutting down both A and B side and then briinging it back up in order from scratch seems to alleviate the problem (until the next restart). We cannot just leave the servers alone though due to company security patching policies.
Cisco TAC had recommended patching to UCCE 8.5.4 which we have recently done, but the probelm persists.
I was wondering if this data discrepancy has ever been seen by anyone else or if possibly some system config issue might be self-deating us? Rebooting the roggers leaves the phone system itself working just fine for the call centers, but the recording of statistics to the skill group interval table is greatly impacted with almost no recording of volume in relation to the call type interval (and for comparison, the call type skill group interval table as well).
We would generally not worry about it, but the workforce management vendor that takes its feed from UCCE only uses the skill group interval, which is basically reporting almost no volume in the mentioned scenarios.
If anyone can provide any information it would be most appreciated/
    Thanks.

Thank you for the response. The time source check is a great idea. We ran into problems before when internal web service servers did not match the PGs (CTIOS service) and CTI provideed stats did not match.
We will continue to work through TAC, but I was just wondering if anyone else had seen this (as 8.5.4 sid not fix it) and if maybe it could have been something self-defeating in our system configuration or scripting. We did not immediately know this was happening until our 3rd party workforce management vendor made us aware.
    Thanks,
    Greg

  • Slow Playback Adobe Audition CS5.5 - not sample rate setting error!

I'm currently using Windows 7 and Adobe Audition CS5.5 build 1815. Soundcard is RME Digi96 Pad. Ok its an old card and the drivers date from 2005. In Adobe 3.1 and CS5.5  I get slow, around half speed, playback at 44k and 96k sample rates. YES the project sample rates and sound card sample rates are set correctly, clock is set to master on the soundcard.
However, in using Cockos Reaper 3 or 4 on exactly the same computer, same soundcard, same OS, I can play 44k and 96k wav files perfectly.
This suggests to me there is an error in the way Adobe Audition 3 / CS5.5 is handling the ASIO drivers in Windows 7 with some soundcards.
If it was a driver problem, or indeed a soundcard hardware issue, then Reaper would not perform properly.
So what's going on with the ASIO drivers in Adobe Audition with Windows 7?

I have two XLR wireless mics, which are great for my video work, but I need to do audio recordings for podcasts and wanted a mic that would be able to do just audio podcasts, as well as video podcasts, live via my laptop. So while I do agree that the audio recording from my XLR mics is great, I am not happy with the audio quality of standard computer mics I've tried and the only way I can get my XLR mics into the computer directly is through a USB connector (which I also have, I'm getting the Yeti set-up for my business partner to use).
Maybe Audition just isn't the best software option for this, but since we have CS6 Premium I had hoped I could utilize software I already had. (And for the live video casts I'm looking at starting out with Google hangouts...)
With that being said, I appreciate your reply and thought I had already set-up the hardware correctly in Windows & Audition. Here is a screenshot that shows the settings I have - my question at this point is whether the master clock needs to be changed (the audio channel mapping tab shows the left and right speaker of the default Realtek speaker):
I just double checked the properties of both the speakers and mic and they are both set to 48,000/16/stereo, as is the audio file in Audition.
I'm a journalist, not an audio pro, and I fully accept that the sound device must not be properly connected. The problem is that I cannot figure out why that is the case.
Since I need to use the USB mic and I want to be able to use the power of Audition to put together podcasts, using other software for the livecasts, I would really like to sort through this. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

  • Sound check (volume leveling) not working newest ipod

    Dear Apple community,
Thank you for your help with this problem.
I am extremely disappointed with my new iPod. I have been using iPods for 15 years. Many years ago I solved the problem with volume leveling by using a fantastic program called iVolume. I have over 25,000 songs (collected over 20 years) in my music library and I have never had a problem with the different sound levels when I play them back through my various Ipods and Iphones over the years.
Unfortunately when I recently purchased the latest generation of iPod I quickly found out that volume leveling no longer works.   The discrepancy in the sound playback is most apparent when I use the bluetooth connection but is also present even when I play through the audio jack.  I have tried turning sound check on and off, and have done a complete reboot of my ipod, and have not seen any difference.
Any help with this problem would be most appreciated.
    Sincerely,

  • My Adobe Audition CS6 is not working

I have Adobe Audition CS6 and when I want to play something or record it doesn't work, and when I go to "preferences" my notebook just restarts, what can I do?

If it's only Audition which crashes your notebook, then uninstall and reinstall it.
But by the sound of it, there's something rather more fundamental wrong with the notebook; Audition is a pretty solid bit of code, and Windows has improved to the extent that it can catch program crashes and just send error reports.

  • VU levels not matching going from Audition to PPro

Couldn't find this in a search, excuse if this has been discussed.
I mixed a multi-track sequence arriving from PPro in Audition with a compressor on each vocal channel, and the VU meters were peaking nicely around -6db.  When I export back to my PPro sequence, everything is peaking at -12db or so.  Am I missing something?  Do I just raise the levels once I get back to PPro, or would that give me less-than-optimal audio to boost it there?
Any input would be greatly appreciated for this workflow! (For a brand new Audition user...)

Audition's mixer does a -3 dB compensation when things are panned center to better mimic stereo pan pots on hardware consoles.  More info: http://blogs.adobe.com/insidesound/2010/10/following-the-letter-of-the-pan-law.html
To disable this, just change the Panning Mode preference to "Left/Righ Cut (Logarithmic)" shown here:

Sound card: Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.
    Software: updated recently
Basically I have my volumes set like this- http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i29/FoZZiESS/volumes.jpg
Now, the side left volume is set at 45%. After I have restarted my computer it changes back to what seems like 00% BUT the volume control still says 45%. Its not until i click on it to change it (Note that i only click, this is before dragging it to change volume) I can clearly hear the side left speaker volume drop down to what is obviously the 45% settting.
Why is this? Its not loosing the volume setting as such because the slider is still at 45%.Message Edited by FoZZiE on 2-29-200609:23 AM

    Hi Arne,
Based on your description, could you tell me the columns are in a same tablix or in two tablix? Do you set the border color of the tablix cells? Could you share the expression that you use to set the border color? If possible, could you please post the screenshot
about your report design? This will be helpful for us to reproduce the issue and help you to resolve it.

  • Volume level not what you think

So I don't have any volume problems when it comes to hearing someone when i'm talking to them on the phone. Or when it comes to listening to music via the speaks or through headphones. What does give me problems is when I'm playing a movie that was purchased from itunes.
The sound from that movie is pitifully low. I can max out the volume slider and volume button but it's still low as ****. So I don't know if it's a movie issue or a phone issue

The movie is easy to fix.
In iTunes, highlight the movie, click Get Info(apple-I), click options, and use the volume adjustment slider. That will change the tag, and give you higher volume. Hope that helps you.

  • Adobe Audition does not playback any audio file. He opens it but does not react on the play key.

Adobe Audition CC does not playback any audio file. He opens it but does not react on the play key. It is after use audio hardware usb wi-fi headphone and return to build-it out. The program don't react now.
    I see problem:
I am unable to get playback at all in CS6 on Mac. The play button or spacebar will not move the playhead or make sound come out of the foamy things with the magnets. The play button toggles back and forth between green and white, but it isn't working. This is true in both multi track and waveform view.
Anyone have ideas on what the issue could be? Thanks!

    MacBook Pro 2.2 i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD
    Mac OS 10.8.3
    Audition CS6 5.0.2 Build 5
    and reply:
Best bet would be to go into Preferences > Audio Hardware, verify your input and output devices are correct, and probably switch your Master Clock to the opposite setting.  If that fails, we can continue troubleshooting.
I have the same problem as the author writes. But these actions do not help

Unfortunately I believe that requires purchasing the new version, and I do
not have budget approval for such a purchase.

  • Automating Adobe Audition using Python/Javascript.

I work for a professional audio company in R&D, and I'm researching the possiblity of automating file imports, favourites processing, and file exports using information and data downloaded from a server. If possible, I'd like to write a 'monitor' application which automates as much of the processing as possible as we are a high volume company.
Has anyone got any experience with this kind of scripting for adobe audition? if not, then does anyone have any other ideas as to how we can automate the software?
    Thanks,
    Grant.

    Hi Grant,
At this time, Audition does not publicly expose the internal scripting environment, though it may be possible through the command line.  Send me an e-mail to [email protected] and we can discuss this a bit further.

  • ITU.R BS.1770-3 Loudness not implemented in Adobe Audition CC 2014 Amplitude Statistics

The amplitude statistics feature in Adobe Audition CC 2014 is a great tool to quickly analyze the long-term loudness; however, it is currently using an old standard (BS.1770-2) that has been replaced by the new BS.1770-3 for about a year or so now.  Is there any reason why Adobe has not updated the amplitude statistic tool to BS.1770-3?  I noticed that in the Adobe Audition training videos the TC Electronic Radar is mentioned, which does have the current LKFS reading standard but it is in real-time.  While useful, it slows you down since you have to sit through the entire program to get the LKFS reading, unlike the amplitude statistics that scans the file quickly.  Please advise.

The Loudness Radar meter is a passive meter, and doesn't affect the audio signal in any way.
When the Match Volume and Amplitude Statistics support for ITU-based loudness was implemented, 1770-2 was the most recent specification.  Since then, 1770-3 has been released which makes some minor modifications.  I've recently chatted about this with our engineering team, and form my understanding the primary difference in -3 is a simplification of the definition of True Peak Level.  All loudness measurements and adjustments continue to be the same as the -2 spec.  The update is on in our feature backlog, however, and will be prioritized with other feature work.

  • Is there an Audition equivalent of volume leveling?

    Greetings!
I spend a lot of time editing long interviews, and unfortunately the microphones in our studio are set to drastically different volumes (not something I can easily correct due to limitations in our board and the way the studio was built).  So I usually have to fix these differences in audio levels using extensive volume envelopes in Audition 2.0. I do this by either raising the track volume or clip volume, and then using the envelope automation points to dip where necessary.
This can be really time-consuming, and it seems to me that there's got to be a better way.  I've tried using the multiband compressor built-in to Audition 2, but it sounds rather unnatural (a lot of "pumping" action) compared to using envelopes.  Hard limiting helps, but only to a certain extent -- again envelopes really get the job done more naturally (though it takes so long to do).  I've also tried to use The Levelator, but again it can sound artificial and rather compressed (pumping) at times.  Also, it does not appear to play well with music, if present during the interview.
One option I've found interesting is Audacity's "leveller" function.  This effect makes quiet passages louder and loud passages quieter -- and it sounds more natural.  I understand that Adobe's Soundbooth has an equivalent "Volume Correction" function that can match the volume levels within a single audio clip.
So my question is:  Is there an equivalent function in Audition 2.0 that can do this?  If not, are there an VST or DirectX plugins that can achieve this result?  Curious to hear your thoughts.
Thanks in advance for your time!
    Sincerely,
    Stephen

"our engineer says he has the mic inputs set as high as they can go"
But according to AudioArts web site, the D75 has four mic preamps "as standard".
That hardly seems to equate with the problem being discussed here especially given the quote above!
Edit:  Checking again the web site, the input level range for the mic inputs is described as "Adjustable -70 to -31 dBu".  Is the output of those EVs not enough for these inputs?

  • Problem Premiere CC not sending audio file to Adobe Audition

    Hello,
I have an audio clip in Premiere Pro CC that I am attempting to send to Audition via dynamic link with "Edit Clip In Adobe Audition."  I have done this in the past but not since I have upgrade all my versions from the CS6 version to the CC 2014 versions.  Previously it worked without incident.  Here is what happens now.
    1.  I right click the audio track (Mono-005.wav) in the premiere pro cc timeline.
    2.  I select "Edict Clip in Adobe Audition.
    3.  In Premiere Pro CC a new audio track is generated (MONO-005 Audio Extracted.wav) on the timeline - replacing the previous track (MONO-005.wav) and in my Premiere Pro CC media bin BUT it never opens up in Adobe Audition....the program (Adobe Audition) never even attempts to open up.
I was getting the Audition error "primary temp volume cannot be found" so I went in to Audition and changed the Media & Disk Cache file location and now I can open up the Adobe Audition program just fine if I am clicking it directly to open.  However, whenever I attempt to bring an audio file from premiere with dynamic link (as referenced above) Audition does not even attempt to open.

RAM 48 GB (currently 40 GB usable)

Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Had this issue before.  Check the file associations to see if Audition CC 2014 is set as the default editing program to open sesx files, etc.
You might want to make sure that all the other apps are set as well.  I have three versions of the software on my machine, and I had to do this to ensure the latest version was set as the default app for the appropriate file types to make dynamic linking work.
