Adobe Bridge/Camera RAW Question

Hello. Can anyone tell me what the little gray circle icon with the two arrows in it is? This icon appears on RAW image thumbnails after opening a RAW file in Camera RAW via Adobe Bridge. When you mouseover it says nothing, when you click on it it does nothing. I am assuming its an indicator that the RAW file was opened but aside from that i can't figure out what it represents. Can anyone give some insight on this? Also, after opening and editing a RAW file how come the changes appear in the Bridge preview? Is there a way to return the preview image to its original state? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That is the Adobe character that says the original file has been edited. I forget what the character is called, but it is referenced in the Lightroom help file I believe.
You can delete the edits by clicking on edit/develop settings/clear settings.

  • Where do I find the Adobe PS Camera Raw plug in

I have Adobe PS CS6 Extended.  Where do I find the Adobe PS Camera Raw plug in ???

It depends on what operating system you're running.
On Windows x64 you'll find it in two places (32 bit and 64 bit plug-ins):
    32 bit:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS6\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
    64 bit:  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS6\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
On Windows 32 bit it will be here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS6\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
I'm not completely sure for a Mac, but an internet search implies that it's here:

  • Image from LR in blown out more in Bridge Camera Raw

    Hello, thanks for reading...
I was just about to post this question, when I think I stumbled upon the answer, but I am not sure... so I decided to post anyway, for input.
After completing adjustments to my .cr2 (Canon 30D) images in LR 2.2, I decided to check my images in Bridge (CS2) Camera Raw, since my client uses that program. The highlights in my images are definitely more blown out than they appear in LR. I determined this by viewing the image with the highlight clipping turned on, and could see much more clipping in Camera Raw. I have turned off automatic tone adjustments in Camera Raw preferences. I am on an 2.4 ghz Intel iMac running 10.5.6, 4 gb ram.
What I finally noticed is that in the Camera Raw "work flow options" I had sRGB EIC61966-1 selected as the color space. When I switched it to ProPhotoRGB, the clipping was nearly identical to LR clipping. My client goes to print in Adobe1998, but that color space setting showed more clipping than LR. With ProPhotoRGB being the LR space, is this causing problems for my client?
I will be the first to admit that the topic of color space confuses me... any suggestions? (Besides the obvious, "read a book/ take a class/ suffer like the rest of us" suggestions...)
    Thanks again, Jerry

    Most welcome, and good luck.
If you do not get help in the Bridge Forum (do not know who the MOD's are there), please do not hesitate to ask that the post be Moved, to say the Adobe Camera RAW (ACR), or Photoshop Forum. That is easy for a MOD to do.
However, in your specific case, I could see three likely candidates for the post.
Still, Bridge Forum is a great place, and you should get help quickly. If not, just let one of us know, as we stand ready to help you, best we can.

  • PSE7, PS CS4, Organizer, Bridge, Camera Raw, Canon DPP

I'm trying to develop a process for using the various tools available to easily browser through a shoot's photos, zoom as needed, choose favorites, make any changes, etc.
I have PSE7/Organizer, Bridge/PS CS4, Camera Raw for both PSE7 and PS CS4, and Canon DPP. I owned PSE7 first, and I like it's backup features as well as the keyword/album and browsing interface, but I'm finding it may not be good for fast processing of a shoot's photos when they are RAW.
I'm shooting in RAW and I'm finding that zooming RAW images in Organizer is not possible beyond whatever preview image is present. Instead, I must open the image, which causes Camera Raw to open. Once in Camera Raw, I can zoom with greater control.
But what I notice is that using Bridge may be better to use for browsing RAW images, especially if I desire to open them in Camera Raw for greater zoom control, touch ups or whatever. The reason is that it seems to take longer for PSE7's Organizer to open a photo in PSE7 and Camera Raw than it takes for Bridge to open the same in PS CS4 and Camera Raw.
    Here are my findings:
First time open of RAW or DNG:
Organizer opening to PSE7/Camera Raw: 15 seconds.
Bridge opening to PS CS4/Camera Raw: 10 seconds.
Second time open of RAW or DNG:
Organizer opening to PSE7/Camera Raw: less than 10 seconds.
Bridge opening to PS CS4/Camera Raw: less than 5 seconds
"Second time open" means that I keep the relevant application open when I return to the organizer. For example, after PSE7 opens, I do not close it when returning to Organizer, and likewise, when returning to Bridge, I do not close PS CS4 when returning to Bridge. The above figures show Bridge can open a RAW or DNG photo into PS CS4 and Camera Raw faster in both the case of PS CS4 not already open, and when an instance of PS CS4 is already open.
In exploring all of this, I tried using DPP as my "Organizer" and it, of course, was the fastest at opening photos to its editor which has a few preset zoom positions. It does have a "Transfer to Photoshop" option but that takes 30 seconds and converts to a TIFF in a temp directory. So DPP seems like something to avoid unless there are RAW editing features which do not exist elsewhere.
Given the above, it seems the best process for me is to use PSE7's Organizer for the features I like (i.e., backup, keywords, albums), but use Bridge/PS CS4 when processing a shoot's photos for keepers. Then use Canon DPP only if it has something which I must use, or just like better.
Do my choices here make sense, where I'm not missing something? If there's a good link that discusses high-level process for dealing with a shoot's photos to find keepers, that would be great to know about.
I realize what's best for anyone really depends on each person's preferences/needs, so the questions I ask are seeking general answers given the limited information I've explained about what's important for me (i.e., going through photos quickly, having good zoom control for review, and being able to go to either PSE7 or PS relatively fast... my findings say that Bridge/PS CS4 seems best for this unless DPP has something I must utilize).
    Thanks,
    Tom

Barbara and George M, You both had answers, but only one can be selected as "Correct" ... I wish the forum allowed splitting that. I gave Barbara's answer the "correct" mark since it was first. George M, I clicked "Helpful Answer" on your response, but your info was much more than just "Helpful"... great tips on the import/download file/dir naming. I'll look into that.
I played around with Bridge/PS quite a bit more, and I'm sold on its way of doing things. I get it now. It stores all keywords with the files, so this removes the need for any organizer-proprietary/custom format databases for retaining such information. This is actually the way I prefer to work, with as much control and as close to the files as possible, or at least with enough info about the files so I can do the right backups, ensure I'm saving the information I add, and so forth. PSE7 has the benefit of allowing keywords without affecting the files, but that's not a big deal for me so long as the metadata-writing software in the products I use isn't buggy, destroying the file (I know, I know, have a backup!).
I really liked PSE7 because I was thinking in terms of an organizer maintaining non-photo data (i.e., keywords) as does PSE7, but since Bridge embeds the info as metadata in the photo file itself, it removes the need for that type of organizer. With that known, the issue of backups no longer needs to be organizer-centric. With Bridge, I know the files and folders themselves is effectively The database. That means I can use whatever I use for my normal backups, and things are actually much more manageable and understandable down that route. So the Bridge/PS route is not only more powerful and faster (in my experience on my laptop), but the Bridge-way of embedding the keywords in the file keeps me loosely coupled, actually completely decoupled from being reliant on an organizer-specific database and all that jazz.
Thanks for helping/clarifying with your feedback on this.

  • Can't go from Bridge/Camera Raw to Photoshop Elements 8

I originally installed trial version of photoshop CS4 and photoshop elements 8.  I decided I liked elements better so that is what I purchased.  I did fresh install off of purchased disk.  I can launch bridge from within PSE8, then camera raw from Bridge, but can't Open into PSE8 from bridge or camera raw.  I can open camera raw but when I finish and click "open" the file always tries to open into Photoshop CS4 (for which the trial is now expired).
I have updated to camera raw 5.7 and followed the instructions on the adobe site.  I can tell the camera raw plug in is running from the CS4 library   Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats  (deleted it there and it no longer worked)  and not from Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\Elements 8\File Formats.
Any suggestions on how to get my PSE8 to play nice with bridge and camera raw and run the camera raw plug in from my PSE8 file formats instead of CS4\file formats?

Yes I am using an Imac with snow leopard.  Thank you for your help!  I changed every file association I could in the bridge file associations from PS CS4 to Photoshop Elements.
Changing the file type association took care of the problem in bridge for .dng files as long as I open the dng file from bridge to photoshop elements (brings up camera raw which when click done returns me to elements).
The panasonic file association in bridge is .raw but my raw camera files are .rw2.  Can't find that one in the associations of bridge.  The fortunate thing is they do open from finder into preview (if that helps at all).
I can now work around this by changing them to .dng files, but that is kind of bulky.
    Thanks again for your assistance.

  • The type of Raw File used in my Canon 7D MKll is not supported in Bridge, Camera Raw or Photoshop 5S. How can I fix this?

The type of Raw File used in my Canon 7D MKll is not supported in Camera Raw, Adobe Bridge or Photoshop 5S. How do I fix this?

I gather you are using Photoshop CS5? The most recent Camera Raw version that CS5 will accept is ACR 6.7. Support for the Canon 7D Mark II was added in ACR 8.7.1. You will have to use the DNG converter to covert your CR2 files to the universal DNG raw format. Here are the links for the DNG converter:

  • CS6 Bridge Camera RAW help!!

I have just installed CS6 direct from the Adobe website on to my MAC as an upgrade to CS5 and it is all fully updated, I have shot some test RAW images on my Canon 1DX and tried to open them in Bridge, it says that the file cannot be opened and that the program needs updating via Help>Updates, this is confusing as it says it is fully updated, I have also checked the file association in CS6 and Canon CR2 is supported. I have not yet un-installed CS5 from my MAC, is it interfering with CS6?.....CR2 files open perfectly in CS5 so I can't see what is causing Bridge in CS6 not to recognise RAW CR2 files and allow me to open them in Camera RAW. Any help really appreciated!

That camera model has been supported since ACR 8.3 and it is most certainly supported by ACR 8.6 and ACR 8.7 (beta).
Either you have damaged, corrupt image files, or a faulty Photoshop and/or ACR installation.
If there are no privacy issues, you can post one of your files to the FTP service of your choice (such as Dropbox or yousendit.com), post the link to it, and someone here can take a look at it for you.

  • Cant open my CR2 raw files in Bridges camera raw

Please help, I cannot open my raw files from my new 5d mark 3, in cs6 bridge or Ps for that matter, yes I know do an update from help-update and yes ive done this several times telling me im up to date. the downloader reads them and generates a jpeg thumb but when in bridge they will not render as a jpeg thumb and I cannot open in camera raw, just says do an update well ive done that and i cant get them to open.

Ask in the PS and ACR forums and provide proper technical info. We don't even know what system you are on so this is pointless.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 display question

I am a landscape photographer.  Many times I shoot multiple exposures of the same scene to combine them later in HDR.  These are generally 3 or 5 exposures taken at the same time.  It would be very useful to see each set of multiple exposures on a separate line in Adobe Bridge so I can quickly choose which set to use for processing in HDR.  Does anybody know how to do that?  I could not see it in the View options in the menu bar of Bridge.  I am using Adobe Bridge CS6 (5.0.1.21) on MAC OSX 10.6.8. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

You can't do so in Bridge when having different amounts of series. If you shot always 5 you could drag the content window to a new size in combination with changing the thumbnail size so 5 thumbs would show in a row. The same with 3 but there is no way to have a content window showing 1 line with 3 and 1 line with 5 files in the same panel.
In filmstrip mode you have 1 single line but that does not meet you wishes also.
There is the option to auto stack for HDR or Photomerge (Stacks / Auto stack Panorama-HDR) but frankly spoken this sucks because it either does not do the job properly or simply crashes Bridge to my experience.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 Raw files not previewing.

I recently upgraded my iMac from a 2007 to a mid 2011 Mac ...the first running fine with CS5...the newer iMac with CS6 and 32GB ram.  I can't seem to get Bridge in CS6 on the new machine to preview D800 Raw Nef files.  Is there something that I need
to do when importing to help the process?  What's strange is that the first files in a folder import fine and preview fine.  I downloaded 300 or so images from a 32GB card.  The first 150 or so worked fine.  The rest just don't preview at all.  Help!

Did you use a card reader for the download?
Are all the 300 files relatively the same size?
Did you ues Tools/cache/purge and rebuild the folder cache?

  • Why do my raws look different when I view them in Adobe Bridge/Adobe Camera Raw and Canons Digital P

    Hello all,
I am sorta new to taking Raw photographs and I have been been using Adobe Bridge/Camera Raw to edit. When I take my photos (I am using a Canon t2i) I have it set to save a raw and a jpg. When I view these images in Adobe Bridge/Camera Raw I notice a clear difference in the jpg and raw (I understand the whole concept behind raw vs. jpg. so im not questioning why one looks different) It is obvious all the adjustments that were applied to my jpg. vs the natural raw.  My question is: When I view the same two images in the software that came with my camera, canon digital photo professionals, the canon and raw look almost identical.... My assumption is that canon is applying the same "adjustments" to my raw as it did to the jpgs?  Has anyone used these two programs and noticed this?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
    Michelle

Can't say I'm an expert on DPP myself either.  I've only run it a few times myself.
If you're seeing Photoshop freeze just by looking at the File Info tab, that's certainly not expected and you should start a tread specifically to discuss that.  The forum may be able to help you get that working.
I happen to like the color my camera delivers in its embedded JPEGs (which I use to quickly review shots via IrfanView).  Starting with that color in Camera Raw by default just feels very natural and integrated.
Without a specific custom profile to help you with the task, here's my suggestions for the next best thing:
    1.  Take an image with a range of different colors in it.
    2.  Open the embedded JPEG also using whatever means you have to do so.
    3.  Open it also in Camera Raw and make sure you're using the Camera Raw default parameters.
    4.  Go into the Camera Calibration tab (little camera icon), and choose the Camera Standard profile as provided by Adobe.
    5.  Tweak the various sliders so as to match the color between what you're seeing in the JPEG and Camera Raw.
    6.  Save new Camera Raw defaults.
    Some notes:
Make sure you leave the White Balance on As Shot, since storing a specific white balance is probably not going to be helpful.
Test your settings and repeat the above to tweak them as needed using other images.
Keep in mind that not every application does proper color-management.  IrfanView can be set up to do so, and I don't recall whether you have to tweak a default setting to make it do that or not (it's been a while).
    Hope this helps!

  • Bridge CS4 won't open .NEF file in camera raw

It says because photoshop CS4 does not recognize this type of file. I've opened plenty of Nikon .NEF files in Bridge. The difference is this is a D90 file and I've been getting D80 files. Is there a patch for newer camera models?

On a Mac I don't know which directory it should be in.

Inhere you can set the wished behavior for tiff. By default it shows tiffs
only in ACR when you choose to do so with right mouse click menu (open in

automatically in ACR unless you choose not to do so.

I store all my images in jpeg.  Been doing my editing elsewhwere, but yesterday tried to use Adobe Bridge.  I opened a jpeg image in camera raw and was unsuccessful in getting what I wanted.  Now, when I try to open one of my jpeg images in Photoshop it opens in camera raw.  If I click on open image it opens, but in a size that is incorrect and is useless.  Help!!!!!!!

On a Mac ACR prefs are in Bridge / Adobe Bridge / Camera Raw Prefs or if you open a file in ACR at the top is a row of icons, if you choose the menu icon it also provides you those prefs.
