Adobe Bridge Keyword issue

I am using Photoshop CS4 along with the Adobe Bridge that downloaded with it. I installed the software on an iMac with Snow Leopard as the OS. Using the Bridge, I assigned keywords to about a thousand images in numerous folders. I used the Bridge with these keywords to search for my images and it worked just fine. Then I upgraded the OS to Lion and immediately had a significant issue with searching in Bridge. Each time I identified a keyword to search (in the Edit-Find menu), the results came back "no files found". It was by accident that I discovered that, in order for the Bridge to recognize they keywords, I had to double click and open the folder first in Bridge. Once the folder had been opend and then closed, the keywords were activated. Needless to say opening each and every folder containing images has been very time consuming.
I am considering purchasing a new iMac this summer. It will probably have the new Mountain Lion OS in it and I will purchase CS6 to install in it. I am concerned that when I transfer all of my images into the new computer, I am going to have the same Bridge issue, and will have to go through this entire "open & close each folder in Bridge" exercise again in order to search by their keywords.
Has anyone had this issue to deal with? If so, I sure would like to know how you dealt with it.

I have exported my keyword list and saved it to my desktop.
If that was the list of your old system you only have to use the option import keywords from the same menu used to export the list. This will add all your keywords from the old list to your new list. If you use clear and import the old ones will be replaced by the list of the imported keyword list (so if you are not sure also make a back up of the existing list before using 'clear and import'
I also did a search of my entire computer and that file name does not show up.
You probably use Spotlight for this and spotlight is not very good in finding files hidden in the library, try the free 'Easy Find'
I use CS4 and the file in the path you provided is: Bridge CS4 Extensions. However, there does not appear to be a Keyword file in that folder.
You are in the wrong library, the extensions are sited in the library on root level (the computer) and you have to be in the library in your user account.
I overlooked the fact that you are on Lion and that has the user library hidden by default. Do a Google search to retrieve the user library, there are easy temporarily ways and a bit more difficult to make it visible permanent
Once I go through an entire search with "include non-indexed files" checked, have all of the folders/files that have been searched through now been indexed? And does that mean that whenever I perform a search again, I no longer have to have that box checked?
If you go to the Find menu and in the source field select your parent folder that contains all your subfolders the search will go through your entire image content.
You only have to check non indexed files once but after the first search (takes long to index) the option is not taking that much time again so no objection to leave it on.

  • After effects & Adobe Bridge preview Issue *freezing*

    Hello all,
I wanted to begin learning After Effects CS4, unfortunately Adobe Bridge CS4 is halting my education.
If I explore any kind of After effects CS4 preset, and preview it inside of Adobe bridge, my pc freezes. The preview window, within Bridge CS4 turns blank white while it freezes,
the Windows toolbar of Adobe bridge, says not responding temporarily, if a wait a little while around 30-45 seconds I regain control of my pc again, the preview box occasionally will show a still image and sometimes it will stay white or flicker. If I do wait the 30-45 seconds the toolbar window no longer says 'not responding' I can click to a (non) After effects preset folder, (for example) 'My family pictures' and it will operate normally but if I go back to the After effects CS4 presets again the freezing will occur once more.
What I find strange is that Adobe Bridge previewing, works absolutely fine for my photoshop documents, Illustrator documents, and any Jpeg photos I have, all after effect presets fail to preview, regardless of type if it's a still shape background or animated sprite, the same freeze issue occurs
I was wondering if anyone has helpful tips?
so far I have downloaded all important driver updates for my graphics card, my card is a nVidia GeForce 7900 GS 256, I have also reinstalled bridge and AfterEffects, I have downloaded all the relevent players.
I am a Windows vista user, also I have enough RAM I believe, just over 3 Giga
I dont know how useful the info is on my Pc spec is, but I thought it could be worth mentioning.
I have looked for a few hours to find some kind of thread with a similar problem I have been unsuccessful, I hope someone can help
    Kindest regards Julian

    Hi Curt y,
I do have the latest Quicktime player installed, I would'nt have have thought that would halt me previewing CS4 after effect still shapes and backgrounds? but.. I'm not to sure if I'm honest.
well I tried uninstalling and reinstalled my player still no sucess sadly.
do you know roughly what date all these old threads popped up?
I'm going to scavenge for them anyway in the the hope I find something useful. *must be positive*
thank you Curt y, for giving me some of your time.

  • Where is "adobe bridge keywords.xml" located on mac (using CS5)?

I just installed Photoshop to work from home, and I'm trying to set up my (rather extensive) keywords list. Other discussions have identified the place for this file as '~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Bridge CS5' but that directory does not exist for me - the Adobe directory is missing. There is a 'Bridge CS5.1 Extensions' directory, but there is no place within it for this file.
Does anyone know where I should put this file?
    Thanks!

'~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Bridge CS5' but that directory does not exist for me - the Adobe directory is missing. There is a 'Bridge CS5.1 Extensions' directory, but there is no place within it for this file.
You are looking in the wrong library, that file is in the system library at root lever. You have to look in your user account library (the ~ means your 'user name').
Some other observations, You say you have CS5 but Bridge CS5.1 Extensions points to CS5.5. Not a big deal but that means you should also have a Bridge CS5.1 folder in the App support at user level.
(It is a bit of a mix up with all different versions of apps in the CS suite. PS is at number 12 and comes with CS5. Bridge is at version 4 in CS5. They made an update for the whole Adobe suite and called it CS5.5. Inhere PS 12.1 and Bridge 4.1. The call some parts CS5.1. Hope you still with me here... :-0 )
And I suspect that you are already on OSX 10.7 Lion and that means by default your user library is hidden. To show it can be done in multiple ways, fastest way is to google on user library and OSX lion

  • Adobe Bridge permission issues when working with network account

We have some users using Adobe Bridge CS3, CS4 and CS5.
They are using Bridge to browse arround the file server.
I have ACL's so the users can have full access using the Finder, deleting, making folders etc.
Users are logged in to their AD account with their home folder synced to a Mac OS X server 10.6.4.
Unless they are Posix owner of a folder they can't make changes or nothing using Bridge.
If they log in to a local account on a Mac and then manually connect to a share on the same server all is fine with Bridge. They can make folders, delete files etc etc.
    Any ideas?
I know Adobe made it easy for themselfs years ago by simply stating it is not supported to work on a server using any Adobe app.

As you said Adobe washed their hands of the matter and as any business customer is almost certainly going to use a server, and as Adobe products are so expensive pretty much only business customers can afford them, this is totally inexcusable.
I had a similar network login related problem with Acrobat Pro in version 7.0 which after +two years+ (no exaggeration) was eventually fixed in Acrobat Pro 8.1. Unfortunately it was then broken again in Acrobat Pro 9.0. Based on my experiences with Acrobat Pro and due to a totally different reason (nothing to to do with using Adobe SW) I found that when I switched from using AFP for network home directories to instead using NFS, my problems with Adobe software and network login accounts went away.
So, it might be worth your thinking about switching to using NFS for home directories as a workaround.
Adobe have become even worse than Microsoft for their software. They use a variety of sucky installers instead of Apple's free Installer (Microsoft have switched to using Apple's Installer), they use product activation, they are even worse than MS Office at working with servers. The only redeeming fact Adobe has is that their Mac and Windows products are mostly equivalent unlike Microsoft who still cripple their Mac software.

  • Bridge Keyword Issue

I am trying to use Bridge to apply keywords to video clips. The video is quicktime format under the ProRes codec. I used bridge to batch rename a set of files from the same shoot. The keywords will apply to somewhere around 85% of the clips, but for 15% of them I get an error message stating "The file '(file name)' cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur." although I can't think of any actual difference between the clips it does and does not work on. Any ideas on why it does not work at times?

but for 15% of them I get an error message stating "The file '(file name)' cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur." although I can't think of any actual difference between the clips it does and does not work on. Any ideas on why it does not work at times?
No experience with video myself but if this happens to only a part of the same file type then it might be due to not waiting long enough before the task has finished.
Bridge is not good in multitasking yet and if you start applying keywords to a bunch with clicking on a view keywords to add - using checkmark or creating new keywords / sub keywords- you must stop adding new words once the activity bar starts running and wait for it to finish completely. If you do not wait and start another job a part of the earlier applied keywords will not be written to the files but the new task will take over the command.
And of course it might be related to some actions you applied earlier to the same files or if the are locked (or don't have read and write permissions).

  • Adobe Bridge Keywords

I have a new PC and remember from my last one, that when I viewed thumbnails in Bridge, the thuumbnails showed my keywords but I can't get that to happen here on my new machine. Any thoughts?
    Bob

Check in edit/preferences/thumbnails and see if in additional lines of data that you have a check mark for keywords (may need to add in dropdown box).

  • How do I import Bridge keywords and metadata to CS6 from CS4 so that I don't lose them if CS4 is not

I have hundreds of keywords and metadata including Ratings and Labels using CS4 and Bridge CS4.
It is time to replace my PPC Mac with a new Intel Mac.
I am going to install CS6 on the new Intel Mac without installing CS4.
By default.... this eliminates ALL keywords and ratings and labels from my Bridge browser. The keywords will still be present on the files but Not present in Bridge keywords list and all ratings and labels will be lost.
Making a copy of Bridge CS4 metadata to another computer is quite simple.
Simply copy All of the Bridge CS4 application support folder to the other computer.
The question then becomes.... can I aslo do this with CS6 without introducing an incompatibility?
    1. incompatible due to CS6 application support.
    2. incompatible due to transfer from a PPC (APM) to Intel (GUID).
This concern results from an Bridge CS4 export problem I experienced.
Bridge CS4 will export all of your keywords and you can import them from a text file but it has some odd troubles. (try it and you will see)
This does Not mean that CS6 has the same troubles.
What do I require to preserve existing metedata and keywords that exist on a PPC using CS4 and import them into CS6 using Intel?
    Sound simple?
    I doubt it.
    The points are.
    1. CS4 not installed.
    2. CS4 source is PPC not Intel.
    3. Ratings and Labels are metadata that Are Not part of the file metadata and unique to Bridge only.
    4. Keyword Search and keyword Use requires that Bridge have keyword list, otherwise Finder is the far more useful browser and the new version of Bridge will require hours of keyword listing.
I don't want to spends hours retyping keywords lists in Bridge.

Ratings are NOT placed into the file under CS4 Bridge and neither are
    Labels.
That depends on your file type and settings voor Camera Raw.
Like Curt stated usually metadata is written in to the file itself. Only Raw files can't be written to and by default they create a XMP file, also called Sidecar XMP files (and do have the same filename, only a different extension called .xmp). These files are also by default hidden in Bridge but If you use Bridge to move files they travel along with the original.
If you move or copy them using finder you have to be sure these XMP files are also copied with the originals to the new location.
Using the menu View / show hidden files should reveal the XMP files.
An other option for the Camera Raw prefs is to set metadata to the Camera Raw database instead of written to sidecar XMP files ( to my knowledge using sidecar files has been the default since about CS3).
Now here it becomes a bit tricky and I only can tell you my findings, not to be confused with true facts. (and mind you, it is at least 5 years ago I was on a PPC and not even remember which OSX 10 was able to work on it, I just present the acting of CS6 on an intel Mac Pro with OSX 10.7, but I don't believe the difference in location is that much)
Having written the Metadata to the Camera Raw Database your image settings get written to a file in the user library preferences folder called logically "Adobe Camera Raw Database". But also some info gets added to the Camera Raw Cache folder (User library / Caches/ Adobe Camera Raw) in a file called index.dat.
Also not having set metadata to xmp sidecars stores the ACR settings in a new .dat file with a unique number (not to be traced as a corresponding filename. And also the default maximum is set to 1 GB of space and when full the oldest files are overwritten with the new ones.
Personally I use converted DNG files that are capable of writing metadata to so all info and settings are in the file itself and I don't need to bother about central storage that can get lost. The downside is that changes to a DNG need to save the whole file instead of a small xmp file and probably reading cache takes more time then getting info from central storage but I like to be on the safe side and speed is not really needed to be nailed down to split seconds in my workflow.
Keywords are stored as a file in the Bridge preferences but Like Curt already stated exporting the old list first and then via the same route import again to CS6 should solve your problem and they will be back as persistent, otherwise the files in the content window show as italic and sadly enough have to be made persistent one by one with right click mouse menu, so that is not really an option for you.
Exporting the list does create a text file that can also be altered manually with a simple text app and as said, again be imported in newer versions as Curt described earlier.
Making a copy of Bridge CS4 metadata to another computer is quite simple.
Simply copy All of the Bridge CS4 application support folder to the other computer.
Well, in fact it is true to call copying this folders a simple task but replacing the existing new CS6 would not be my method. The biggest change for Bridge CS6 was the transition to 64 bit and I lack the knowledge for this but also cache format for thumbs and previews has been different for every version.
But if you have located the CS4 folder for Bridge in your PPC user library / application support / Adobe / Bridge CS4 you should find a file called 'Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml' and it is fairly safe to replace this CS4 version with the new CS6 version.
Also custom settings for the output module can be copied (however to my memory the option for custom settings in Output where introduced in CS5) and collections can be copied.
So for your keywords the copy option might work, rating and labeling for Raw files they will be read in CS6 if they are stored as XMP. ACR settings idem but CS6 ACR has a new (2012) conversion mode that has different settings that do not work with previous settings (unless you first choose to use the 2010 conversion as default Raw setting.
If it is in the Central Data Base I would start trying to replace the CS4 with the CS6 edition (after back up of existing CS6 version) and see what happens. If it works your out of trouble.
You can also open the Camera raw Database as a text file but there is a lot of data in. Maybe scripting would be able to reveal those data and transfer to XMP but you have to visit the dedicated Scripting forum for this.
And while you state to have not installed CS4 anymore it might be wise to reinstall it (but first make a proper back up of the previous mentioned folders and files to be on the save side.
This gives you the opportunity to export keywords properly and if needed you can use Show Items from subfolders option with filter and set preferences to XMP sidecar to refresh the rating and labels to those XMP files. Just an escape route that might not be as painstakingly as it looks at first sight, just use the options for Bridge to filter.

  • When publishing to PDF, the File Info keywords are not appearing in adobe bridge?

When I generate a PDF from Framemaker 9, the File Info can be seen when I open the PDF and look in Properties. However, if I look for the keywords using Adobe Bridge, they are not recognized. Is there something I have to do to make them visible in Adobe Bridge?

  • Adobe Bridge CC to Adobe Dreamweaver CC compatibility issues

I've just got off the phone to Adobe help desk following an investigation which took a number of days to resolve.
    The problem was this -
I'm studying for a Dreamweaver ACE exam on Monday (wish me luck!) and I'm using Adobe Dreamweaver CC "Classroom in a book" to help me prepare.
One of the tasks is to access Adobe Bridge CC, select a JPEG image, and then click File > Place > Dreamweaver to transfer the image from Bridge to where you want to place the image in Dreamweaver. Wouldn't be a problem except on Bridge you can no longer follow the commands File > Place > Dreamweaver, because on the latest versions of Bridge, (as I was eventually told by Adobe helpdesk after their investigation) the option to place a file or image onto Dreamweaver (and now Photoshop) no longer exisits.
this was confirmed when the gentleman at Helpdesk tried installing the latest versions of Bridge/Dreamweaver/Photoshop onto his computer and encountered the same issue.
I'm wondering whether Adobe are now phasing out Bridge as it is now becoming less compatible with Dreamweaver (and now Photoshop) and if so, what it is being replaced with?
I'm also hoping that im not going to get an outdated question on my ACE exam re compatibility between Dreamweaver and Bridge, but thats a whole different issue...
Cheers guys, all the best, and happy new year!

Is this something that has changed from CS6 to CC?
No, you either are trying to copy from a disk that does not allow you to copy or you don't have the correct admin permission for read write in Finder.
Check the folder or disk with cmd + i (get info) and at the bottom check if you have the correct read and write permissions
But the easiest way to copy to a folder on your system is opening the folder panel in Bridge with the wanted destination folder in view and drag and drop (with option pressed for copy if you are on the same disk) the file from the content panel to that folder.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 has stopped working - has issue been resolved?

    Hello.
I am experiencing the above problem with a new install of CS6.
    Has this issue been resolved?
CS6 Design and Web Premium installed on Win 7 pro 64 bit Dell Precision laptop. Error with Adobe Bridge cs6: "Adobe Bridge CS6 has stopped working", problem event name "APPCRASH". Error occurs when opening Bridge from Photoshop and other apps (Browse in Bridge) and directly from desktop or start menu. Also a cache directory is not being created under c:\user\<user>\appdata\roaming\adobe\bridge\. Holding ctrl key down and double clicking icon gets same message, cannot get at reset window.
Performed the following with no change: verified Bridge and full suite is on latest version (Bridge=5.0.2.4); created desktop icon directly from bridge.exe; verified application was installed and is starting with administrator privileges; verified latest display driver installed; performed complete uninstall of CS6, CC cleaner tool run, then full reinstall; Error under Event Viewer: faulting application: Bridge.exe and faulting module name: ntdll.dll; disabled UAC; tested memory for damage using MemTest86-good.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

A follow up to the above.
There appears to be a number of possible causes for this type of error. In my case it was somewhat specific. I had a stand alone copy on this same machine previously of Adobe Photoshop CS2 (only) which was completely uninstalled prior to the installation of CS6. There is an issue with Bridge CS6 being installed on a machine that has Bridge CS2 on it. I wasn't aware of Bridge being present with my copy of Photoshop CS2 but apparently there were at least some components of Bridge CS2 left after the uninstall. The workaround that solved the issue for me was the creation of an empty folder:
    C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS2
For those of you who may have this situation.
Here is where I found the solution (sixth thread down):
    Bridge CS6 won't open running on Win7

Adobe Bridge CS6, Output to HTML Gallery coding issue.
I have created the html, JavaScript, css file using the output function in Bridge CS6, which nicely generates the coding, pages, folders and files. I can edit the html files such as gallery title, name, etc., in Dreamweaver CS6 just fine and preview them in a selected browser (both chrome and IE) and everything works fine.
When I ftp upload the files and directories into my hosting account (Go Daddy), the images do not show up. The file table appears but the thumbs images does not appear and when selected to preview the larger image, it does not appear either. I have not altered the file structure at all. Go Daddy says it is a coding issue, but I cannot fine any errors.
Have you seen this issue before? All Adobe help research have failed. Any suggestions??

Have you asked on Go Daddy site for help in uploading Adobe Bridge script?  Just to say it is coding is not helpful.

    Hi Jdentremont,
Lync client gets user photos by first querying the Address Book Web Query (ABWQ) service on the server, which is exposed through the Distribution List Expansion web service. The client receives
the image file and then copies it to the user's cache to avoid downloading the image each time it needs to be displayed. The attribute values returned from the query are also stored in the cached Address Book Service entry for the user. The Address Book Service
deletes all cached images every 24 hours, which means that it can take up to 24 hours for new user images to be updated in the cache on the server.
To troubleshoot your problem, please follow the steps below:
    1.  Navigate to
     “X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000” folder. (ABS file share)
You should see some photo files in this folder as the following screenshot.
    2. Delete all the files in this folder.
    3. On test PC, delete local cache files.
    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    4. Sign-in Lync with the test account.
    5. Go back to the ABS file share, check if there is any Photo file in the folder.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Adobe Bridge CC on iMac, Cache Issue

I use Adobe Bridge & Photoshop CC multiple times daily. Lately, I've been receiving this error message:
"Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct the situation."
Purging the central cache seems to correct the matter, for a day or two - then, I receive the same error message again...
Any suggestions to resolve this issue are appreciated, thanks.

I'm having the same issue. The program is really slow and the cache is really bad. I'm assuming we need to update our system and the program???  Please let me know if you find the answer.  This issue is slowing me down too much. Makes we want to quit using the software forever.

  • Keyword selection function in Adobe Bridge CS3

    Hello,
Does anybody know if and how I can change the "selection criteria" of keywords in Adobe Bridge CS3?
-> selection criteria: If I want to use the filter with the keywords, it selects the images which include any of the selected keywords (OR-function), but I would like to select only those images which have all of the selected keywords(AND-function).
Example: In a holiday folder named "italy", I want to see all pictures with the keywords "beach" and "me". What I get are all the "beach" images and all the "me" images. How can I change this?
Would be great if someone could help me...!
    Thanks!

In the Find box the Match drop down has 2 options. "If all criteria is met" is like "and" while "if any criteria met" is like "or" logic.

  • Editing and sharing custom metadata/keywords through Adobe Drive in Adobe Bridge

I am part of a four-person video production unit operating within a local governmental entity. We are currently using four licenses of Adobe Master Collection CS5, and are about to get access to dedicated SAN storage.
We would like each user to have the ability to assign specific keywords to any given video clip (or remove keywords from clips) within Adobe Bridge, and have the three other users see the same results. I've noticed that Bridge alone will allow for keywords to be added or removed, but this list is specific to each user. Importing one list into other users' profiles is a start, but would no longer work, once keywords are added or taken away.
The overview page for Adobe Drive 3 says that it, "allows users to edit and view custom metadata/properties through Adobe Drive in Adobe Bridge," but I haven't found any explanation in either the website, forums, or user's guides that delves any farther into this area. If we incorporate Adobe Drive/Bridge into our workflow, will we be able to share/sync keywords between users? Is there some other (affordable) solution that would let us do this?
Thanks for any insight you might be able to offer.
    Chuck

    Hi,
    Thanks for sharing your case.
The keywords you mentioned is XMP metadata, if all your digital assets are managed by ADEP CQ DAM service, you can use AD3 with built-in ADEP connector to communicate with the DAM server, then, I think it can meet your requirement, it means, the keywords can be set by one user through metadata panel in Bridge, and can be viewed by other users.
for custom properites, it's different from XMP metadata, it refers to the properties of one asset which is managed by a Content Management service. users have to use another UI to edit/view them in Br after AD3 is installed.
here are some requirements to use it.
    1) CMIS 1.0 compiliant server should be used to manage all your digital assets
    2) use the built-in CMIS with AD3 to connect to the server.
if other kind of servers are used, you should develope a custom connector through AD SDK to enable custom properties feature as well as some other handler required by AD SDK
    thanks
