Adobe bridge low on memory

I am trying to sort/edit pictures using my adobe bridge but it keeps giving me a "low on memory" flag and cannot complete the functions I'm asking it to do. How can I correct this?

The Adobe error is spurious since you obviously have an abundant amount of memory available.
It is possible that Adobe is unable to write to its cache file, a location on your Mac for Adobe to store data such as thumbnail and preview images, and Adobe Bridge is erroneously reporting that inability as insufficient memory.
You should really solicit Adobe's help for this problem, but if you are willing to continue pursuing it here consider the following:
Open Disk Utility - it's in your Mac's Utilities folder. In the column on the left, locate your Mac's startup volume. It is an icon located below the uppermost icon and is usually named "Macintosh HD". Select it and click the Repair Disk Permissions button. It will take a few moments to complete. Many "Permissions differ... " and "Repaired... " messages will appear, perhaps hundreds of them. They are not important, but if any errors appear please describe them.
When Disk Utility finishes with the message Permissions repair complete, quit Disk Utility and determine if Adobe Bridge continues to report the low memory condition.

  • "Bridge is running low on memory and should be restarted" error

    I am running Bridge CS4 on a DELL T-1650 with plenty of hard drive space.  I am having trouble with indexing / caching files.  My computer is connected to a large office server with a large amount of files that I need to be able to search.  I recieve a "Bridge is running low on memory and should be restarted" error each time I attempt to index the files on the server drive.  I have tried Purge and Cache, set the cache memory slider to max.  This is a very large amount of files (TB ) to index /cache.  I leave the computer running overnight to allow ample time, I nothing on my TB hard drive , and have 16GB of available RAM.  Any ideas?

    …My computer is connected to a large office server…
    Aha!  Working over a network is not supported by Adobe.
    This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
    If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
      Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
         Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
        Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
      If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
    When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Bridge runs low on memory CS5

    Now I have a problem while working in photoshop and I open bridge if I open adjust and close a few raw images I get a message that says Bridge is running low on memory you should restart bridge.  I looked for a memory adjustment and can't find it.  Anyone know where it is?

    OK, what changed a week ago?  Did you add new hardware, add new software, updated any software, add any external devices?
    If it worked before and not now, and the answer to the above is no, then reset the preferences by holdling down the Ctrl key and starting Bridge.  You will get a reset window with 3 options.

  • Bridge CS4 - low on memory error

    Hi - I am getting this error rather frequently after processing e.g. 50 RAW images in a batch. With plenty of RAM (4GB) on WIN XP Pro. Any hints will be much appreciated.
    Vlad

    As I see it, the problem is somewhere in understanding of users rights
    on disk where cache is located.
    In my case the problem was because I didn't have enough rights on drive
    where Cache was (wich is stupid since I'm the only user of my comp), so
    Bridge couldn't write it's date on target disk).
    I don't know for yours , but john-o-eid's problem could be conected with
    the same issue. It  could  happen also in situations when  there are
    more users and not everyone's rights were assured in phase of CS4
    installation, since cache is located by default in folder of user that
    installs it. In my case it was
    C:\users\daregre\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Cache (in XP  instead
    of C:\users..., C:\Documents and Settings...).
    So either every user must set Cache for himself in his
    C:\users\....\Cache directory, or ensure that everyone that uses
    computer has WRITING rights on drive where Cache is. So:
    1. check out if you've changed settings for cache location, (or someone
    else did),
    2. check everyone's rights on that drive (Control Panel>User Accounts,
    perhaps also in disk sharing advanced options).
    3. remove every possible restriction of rights for that drive on your
    and other common user accounts (guest, everyone ...).
    Good Luck!

  • Contribute "low on memory" and Acrobat won't redraw

    I have two issues that I believe may be related.  First here's my system information
    WinXP SP3
    Intel Core2Duo E6550 = (2.33GHz)
    3GB RAM
    GeForce 8600GTS 512 MB Video
    Running two 19" monitors, (at 1440x900 each)
    Creative Suite Premium 2.0 (InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2, IllustratorCS2, Acrobat 7 Professional, BridgeCS2, GoLive CS2Version Cue is disabled.)
    Production Studio Premium 1.0 (Premiere Pro 2, Encore DVD 2, After Effects 7, Audition 2)
    Contribute CS3, (including Bridge CS3, but I don't use it, I use Bridge CS2 for everything).
    First Issue.  Intermittently, in both Adobe Reader 9, and Acrobat 7.0 pdf files that I have open will not display in the window properly, unless I reduce the size of the window to something quite small.  It will show the desktop in behind the window, or if I open a window on top, it shows that window even when I've moved it.
    The second problem is similar, but occurs in Contribute CS3 and is always accompanied by a "Your system is low on memory..." error, until I reduce the size of the Contribute window, at which point, it is so small that it becomes unuseable.
    The only other program that I have open at the time is Outlook 2007, with a couple of messages.
    As this is happening, I open the Task Manager, see that there is plenty of available Physical Memory, and the CPU Usage is very low, under 10%.  I've set my virtual memory paging file to Custom Size of 4591MB.
    The only way to fix it is to reduce the size of windows or close all the programs.  These two problems occur independently of each other.  Sometimes when I'm just trying to open a PDF file.
    3GB should be plenty to run Contribute and Outlook, or Acrobat and Bridge.
    What the heck is going on?

    Thanks for the reply.
    Yes I have tried that, but to no avail.  The crazy thing is that it only really happens after I've been working in Contribute for a while.  Sometimes an hour or more.  Then it just starts doing this.
    The redraw problem also affects other programs, that are not Adobe programs.  For example, when I open a Remote Desktop Connection to the web server where I am publishing, while this problem is occuring, the screen will not "draw" properly either.
    I have a feeling that there is something strange about how Contribute, and Acrobat, and Windows share the memory, either the system memory, or the graphics memory.
    Could this also be a problem caused by having both CS2 and CS3 programs installed?
    Chris

  • Adobe Bridge CS4 causes Blue Screen of Death! Help?

    Can anyone help?
    I keep getting a Blue Screen of Death every so often when I am using Adobe Bridge CS4 and another program, either Photoshop or Bryce or Cinema4D.
    When I have been working in the other program for a while and attempt to return to Bridge, the instant I click on the bridge icon in the low taskbar, the PC blue screens and everything dies instantly with no time to read the blue screen or to take a photo of it, never mind do anything useful like save the file I was working on.
    I have winXP Pro and an NVidia Ge Force 8800 GTS graphics card. (both are up to date)
    I recently got the Adobe updates but there wasn't one for Bridge.
    Buckets full of memory: 289GB free on the C drive and I store most (work) things on my F drive which is a terrabyte with 315 gigs free.
    Um.... dunno what else to say.
    Except:  HELP!!!

    Well, I don't find that the magnifying glass ability is all that much help to me as often what you see in that magnified area is too blurry to be of any use - my eyes aren't wonderful with small things (including small text - I therefore have the text on all the machines I use set to quite large, browser included) so I like large thumbnails too, and usually I find that the big thumbnails are sufficient for me to find what I want.
    So that's not been the cause of my BSOD.
    By the way what's "ralentize"?  Is it like "pixilate"?
    On the BSOD - it sounds to me that there can be more than one cause in Bridge of the BSOD, so it sounds as if Bridge CS4 - is just not stable, period.
    The fact that Bridge in CS3 and CS2 worked just fine is a good indicator of this, (to me anyway) as most people seem to be saying so.
    I wouldn't like to rely on NVidia's next update fixing this, as I've already updated NVidia once since this began and it didn't help, I now hear that there's now another update out for the NVidia Ge Force 8800 GTS (which is what I have in my PC), so I will be updating that when I get back, but as the last update didn't fix it, I doubt if this one will either, I think it's something that Adobe will have to sort out, but I doubt if they will.
    So it looks like those of us with that graphics card are just left without being able to use Bridge properly - if at all.
    I've given up on it on my PC and so I'm refusing to use it on my Laptop either, since it would be silly to get so used to it that I can't work without it.
    I have tried using Irfanview, but it's functionalitly is comparably limited.  So I'm looking out for something else.
    I don't at the moment have PhotoshopCS4 on the laptop and as I left the box with the program in it in my room at Uni I can't install it on the laptop with its different Graphics card (although still an NVidia it's a Ge Force Go 6800, not the 8800 Gts), until I get back next week... not that I really want to, if it's just going to crash the laptop like it does the PC.
    I do have Corel's Paintshop Pro Photo X2 on here, but I don't use it anything like as much as I do Photoshop, but at least the Bridge or Browser (they call it "Organiser") on that doesn't kill the entire computer, although it does take up room on the screen instead of opening as a whole new window.
    Also PaintShopPro does not save an inferior version of the image when saving as BMP, which I've noticed does now happen with Photoshop CS4 (when comparing .psd or pspimage with bmp).
    emirkill,
    I will also try the "enable software rendering" when I get back, that you've used, in case that helps.

  • Feature Request (again); Adobe Bridge Cache Manager

    In Adobe Bridge, the Cache is still a problem and a huge memory hog. I asked for a good Cache Manager over 3 years ago when it was needed CS4.
    Now in CS6, I am disappointed that the cache system in Bridge has not changed. Why do you have a section in the Adobe Forums that asks for 'Feature Request' and then ignore them?
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2652688#2652688
    "I would personally like a tool within Bridge that allows me to manage and control the Cache in a more personal and effective way. I would like a toggle that would keep '100% previews' in one folder for a selected period of time (1 day to 1 month) before the folder's cache is automatically purged. And another toggle that would give me the option to keep a selected folder's cache permanently intact (such as an Important Portfolio Folder or an Edited Images Folder).
    As a photographer, I take and edit a lot of photos. When I import a photoshoot with 1,500 photos (not uncommom at all) I enjoy having the Bridge Previews at 100%, but for only a limited time. Unfortunately, I forget to purge the individual cache of that folder and the cache builds to a point that makes Adobe Bridge CS4 very slow. I then have to Purge the whole Bridge Cache in order to make Bridge run smooth again.

    gumbogood wrote:
    A Cache Manager tool that lets me either schedule a cache cleaning on a folder, or keep it permanent, would be a huge help. And I don't think that it is unreasonable for me to ask this of Adobe.
    If you submit a feedback poll where Yammer pointed you, and it gets a couple of hundred (thousand?) users agree you might get Adobe's attention.
    I agree with Yammer that Bridge is a low priority project with Adobe.  Think their target audience is the casual user with a few hundred photos added each year.   Your use pattern is more specialized and you either have to adapt with scripts or move to another product IMO.
    The size of cache takes a lot of people by surprise.  It can grow humongous if you use HQ thumbs and save 100% previews.  One can dump the cache in preferences, but many are reluctant to to this as they think it will delete all their keywords and edits.  In addition, to do a search you have to re-index all your files, which can take a long time.
    If you have "export cache to folders" checked, dumping the cache in preferences only dumps the central cache.  To dump the folder cache you have to visit each folder and click on Tools/cache/purge cache for xxx folder.  Again, most people do not recognize this.  This technique purges both the central and folder cache for this folder only.
    It the 100% previews are the problem for you it would seem like a simple task for the script people to write one that would delete it after xx days as the 100% previews are held in a specific folder.
    Bridge is not a good digital asset manager.  You are probably in that arena dealing with several hundred thousand images.  Omke uses a DAM as it does some functions better than Bridge, but Bridge is still his main program.  Can't remember the name, but if you read these posts you might have seen it.

    Trying to use my programs like Adobe Bridge keeps crashing and saying I'm low on memory even tough I have 90-100GB of free space. • Adobe Bridge Buttons in Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks?

    Hello,
    Adobe says that the button to connect to Adobe bridge is in
    every CS3 application. I can find it in Photoshop, Illustrator, and
    even Contribute, a former Macromedia project, but none of the other
    Macromedia projects (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks) have one. Am I
    missing it, or is this a glitch?
    Thanks,

    Go to Edit > Prefs > Enable Version Cue. Once you do
    that look in the lower left corner of the flash
    application - you should see "Open" with an arrow. Clicking
    on it will popup "Reveal in Bridge" button.

  • XMP metadata from Flashbuilder why not visible in Adobe Bridge?

    Hi there,
    I'm currently wondering around XMP metadata and swf files.
    A: Flash CS5: works
    When I use the XMP panel in Flash CS5 and export a swf, open Adobe Bridge CS5 and select the file, the XMP data are correctly displayed.
    B: Flash Builder(Flex 4.1): don't work
    When I use Flashbuilder and add my metadata to the compilation, then compile, open Adobe Bridge CS5 and select the file, nothing is included in metadata.
    Procedure based on the following (same problem if metadata are directly set through compiler arguments):
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=compilers_14.html
    ../src/config/ProductMetaData.xml
    <flex-config>
    <metadata>
        <title>My title</title>
        <description>My description</description>
        <publisher>The publisher</publisher>
        <creator>The creator</creator>
        <language>EN</language>
    </metadata>
    </flex-config>
    compiler argument
    -load-config+=config/ProductMetaData.xml
    As far as understood, on the background the following is added to the swf at compile time:
    <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf='http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#'>
        <rdf:Description rdf:about='' xmlns:dc='http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1'>
            <dc:format>application/x-shockwave-flash</dc:format>
            <dc:title>My title</dc:title>
            <dc:description>
                <rdf:Alt>
                    <rdf:li xml:lang='x-default'>My description</rdf:li>
                </rdf:Alt>
            </dc:description>
            <dc:publisher>The publisher</dc:publisher>
            <dc:creator>The creator</dc:creator>
            <dc:language>EN</dc:language>
        </rdf:Description>
    </rdf:RDF>
    I've checked that the medata is correctly added to the swf file using this small software polarswf:
    http://download.cnet.com/Polar-SWF-MetaData/3000-6676_4-10738623.html
    I do not know if it is safe to use it in a produciton context at least in trial mode it allows to check the metadata included in your swf.
    I wonder if this metadata coonot be read by Adobe Bridge because they are at a "lower level" than those put by flash CS5 XMP panel?
    Thank you in advance for your help.
    This is not a blocking situation, but I'm curious to understand what happend.
    Cedric Madelaine (aka maddec)

    I was following this post for a LONG time, since I noticed the same problem.
    This week I was getting in it into myself again and I noticed you use load-config. I used these compiler options :
    contributor name
    Sets metadata in the resulting SWF file. For more information, see Adding metadata to SWF files.
    creator name
    Sets metadata in the resulting SWF file. For more information, see Adding metadata to SWF files.
    date text
    Sets metadata in the resulting SWF file. For more information, see Adding metadata to SWF files.
    But that resulted in this XML string where the dc namespace was missing a / on the end of the URI
    That caused the metadata which was added in flashbuilder was only visible in bridge in the rawXML panel, and not the specific fields
    changing the URI in http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/ did the trick ( did this in bridge by exporting the rawXML, changed the / , and imported it )
    <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf='http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#'>
        <rdf:Description rdf:about='' xmlns:dc='http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1'>
            <dc:format>application/x-shockwave-flash</dc:format>
        </rdf:Description>
    </rdf:RDF>
    Sadly there was no way I could add this / myself everytime.
    BUT then I discoverd this option :
    raw-metadata XML_string
    Defines the metadata for the resulting SWF file. The value of this option overrides any metadata.* compiler options (such as contributor,creator, date, and description).
    This is an advanced option.
    And you could give the exact RAW XML as you  described
    <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf='http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#'>
        <rdf:Description rdf:about='' xmlns:dc='http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/'>
            <dc:format>application/x-shockwave-flash</dc:format>
            <dc:title>My title</dc:title>
            <dc:description>
                <rdf:Alt>
                    <rdf:li xml:lang='x-default'>My description</rdf:li>
                </rdf:Alt>
            </dc:description>
            <dc:publisher>The publisher</dc:publisher>
            <dc:creator>The creator</dc:creator>
            <dc:language>EN</dc:language>
        </rdf:Description>
    </rdf:RDF>
    to the compiler. This could also be done in Flash with JSFL.
    In the end I wrote an ANT script which injects the exact XMLstring of metadata to Flash and Flex projects by using the raw-metadata parameter in FLEX and JSFL for flash.
    Hope this helps

  • Adobe Bridge Photo Downloader Results without using Photo Downloader

    I always used the Photo Downloader to download files, rename them and organize them into folders named by date.
    I recently upgraded to a Network Attached Storage device that has a USB Port directly on the front of it and allows me to dump all my camera files straight onto the external hard drive. However, it does not rename them - so it uses the raw file names that the camera assigns them and doesn't organize them in any way.
    This is really handy for me as I don't have to copy 16gb of photos across a wireless network when I want to clear out a memory card. However, I haven't found a way to organize the files after the fact.
    Is there any way to have Adobe Bridge (or any other Mac software!) go through those files and move/rename them the same way that Photo Downloader always did directly from the camera? How?
    Thanks!

    If you are sure your files have the metadata, in other words you can place your memory card into a reader and the information is there,
    next step, is a total Bridge Preferences reset
    Start Adobe Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) until the Reset Settings dialog box appears. Select all three options--Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache--and then click OK.

  • Adobe Bridge Freezes While Previewing Animation Presets

    Hello
    I know this question has been asked several times over, but I do not have a resolution so I thought would ask again.  Like the previous posts, when I browse presets from the Effects and Animations menu, Adobe Bridge opens.  I can scroll through the animations, but once I choose one, the play button scrubs and appears to play, but never does, and then the program freezes.  I have read the blog posts and installed the fixes posted on the adobe blog, but nothing helps. All of my Apple Software and Creative Cloud software says it is up to date.
    Here are my settings:
    Adobe After Effects 12.2.1.5
    Adobe Bridge 6.0.1.6
    Apple Quicktime 10.1
    20-inch, Early 2008 iMac OS X
    Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b)
    Any guidance you can offer is much appreciated!
    Thank you,

    Thanks for the quick reply Rick.  Yes, 4Gb is not a lot, but when I bought the machine I was not doing any video and it sure seemed like plenty in 2008.  I probably should upgrade...
    I did close down everything else, but the problem still exists.  I can navigate to a thumbnail, but once I click on it and try to preview, the program freezes and I have to force quit.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 has stopped working - has issue been resolved?

    Hello.
    I am experiencing the above problem with a new install of CS6.
    Has this issue been resolved?
    CS6 Design and Web Premium installed on Win 7 pro 64 bit Dell Precision laptop. Error with Adobe Bridge cs6: "Adobe Bridge CS6 has stopped working", problem event name "APPCRASH". Error occurs when opening Bridge from Photoshop and other apps (Browse in Bridge) and directly from desktop or start menu. Also a cache directory is not being created under c:\user\<user>\appdata\roaming\adobe\bridge\. Holding ctrl key down and double clicking icon gets same message, cannot get at reset window.
    Performed the following with no change: verified Bridge and full suite is on latest version (Bridge=5.0.2.4); created desktop icon directly from bridge.exe; verified application was installed and is starting with administrator privileges; verified latest display driver installed; performed complete uninstall of CS6, CC cleaner tool run, then full reinstall; Error under Event Viewer: faulting application: Bridge.exe and faulting module name: ntdll.dll; disabled UAC; tested memory for damage using MemTest86-good.
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    A follow up to the above.
    There appears to be a number of possible causes for this type of error. In my case it was somewhat specific. I had a stand alone copy on this same machine previously of Adobe Photoshop CS2 (only) which was completely uninstalled prior to the installation of CS6. There is an issue with Bridge CS6 being installed on a machine that has Bridge CS2 on it. I wasn't aware of Bridge being present with my copy of Photoshop CS2 but apparently there were at least some components of Bridge CS2 left after the uninstall. The workaround that solved the issue for me was the creation of an empty folder:
    C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS2
    For those of you who may have this situation.
    Here is where I found the solution (sixth thread down):
    Bridge CS6 won't open running on Win7

  • How can I open Adobe Bridge CS6 in high resolution on my MacBook Pro Retina display?

    How can I open Adobe Bridge CS6 in high resolution on my MacBook Pro Retina display? When I click Get Info, the "Open in Low Resolution" box is marked and locked. How can I unmark this box? I currently run 10.9.1. I can open Adobe Photoshop CS6 in high resolution without any problem. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    There is no such thing. In CS6 only PS itself is Retina compatible. You would have to use CC for full Retina support.
