Adobe Camera Raw and Elements version 12?

I have Photoshop Elements version 12 that presently has Adobe Camera Raw version 8.5 with it. Can I update to a newer ACR version? If so which one? I'm getting a new camera lens and I see that version 8.5 doesn't support it but 8.6 and newer does.  Thanks for the help - I don't want to "blow up" my Elements software by installing something that's not compatible.

Thanks to Yammer P. for providing the download links.  Assuming these are what you need, are you saying Adobe support didn't even provide these?
Adobe, are you listening to this?  Do you really think contracting your support out to India is working if the support personnel can't even provide basic links to your own software update web pages?

I hope someone out there can help me out because Adobe can't so far.  I have a Mac OXX 10.5.8, new user to Elements 9.  Bought PSE9 and there is no Adobe Camera Raw with the installation.  Support told me I need to download ACR 6.3.  Went to website for Adobe and tried to download update to no avail.  Emailed back and forth to Adobe support, no help.  So now, I am stalled, any ideas?

  • Camera RAW and DNG version 8.2

I have a Canon 70D.  How do I find out what version of camera raw and dng  that I have installed?

Unfortunately, photoshop elements 11 can only use up to camera raw 7.4 for the camera raw plugin.
(in the photoshop elements 11 editor; Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor>About Plug-In and click on the words Camera Raw to find the version you have)
(Help>Updates in the pse 11 editor to check for updates)
You can use the DNG converter 8.6 to convert your canon 70d files to dng copies, which pse 11 should then open.
If you have mac os x 10.6.8 snow leopard then you would need to use dng converter 8.3
    dng converter 8.6:
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter 8.6
    dng converter 8.3:
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter 8.3
How to use the dng converter:

You could also upgrade to photoshop elements 12 or look at adobe lightroom 5.6 to avoid using the dng converter

  • I am unable to open raw files from my Canon T1i in Adobe Camera Raw of my version CS3 of Photoshop.  I have tried to update my ACR by downloading version 4.6 from the Adobe website but I am still unable to open raw files, just JPEG.  Is there a way to use

I am unable to open raw files taken on my Canon Rebel T1i in my version of Photoshop CS3.  When I import raw files into Bridge they come up as patches with CR2 on them and when clicked on, a notice comes up stating that Photoshop does not recognize these files.  I tried to update my Adobe Camera Raw by downloading version 4.6 from the Adobe Website, but when I clicked on the plus-in, I got another message that Photoshop does not recognize this file.  I spoke with a representative from Canon who said that I could not update CS3 and that I should subscribe to the Cloud.  I would prefer to use my CS3, if possible.  Can anyone advise me what to do?

The T1i was first supported by Camera Raw 5.4 which is only compatible with CS4 and later

  • Adobe Camera RAW in Elements 8

Hi, I have just purchased and installed PSE 8.  I've also got some tutorials on disc from a number of photography magazines as I am interested in editing photos using Camera RAW and PSE 8.
For some reason I cannot open and files with Camera RAW version 5.5.  I have no idea how to update the software as I am new to this, does anyone know which version of Camera RAW I need to open files with a .DNG extension or .PEF (Pentax RAW) extension?
I have tried following the steps to open files in Camera RAW but they just open into PSE 8 Editor in which I cannot adjust things such as white balance.
This is becoming very frustrating and I am already regretting buying this program.
Hopefully someone out there has more experience and knowledge than me and can help?

What is your screen resolution on the computer you're running PSE8 on?
ACR requires a vertical screen resolution of 768.  If you're on a small laptop or a normal-sized netbook, PSE will skip the ACR-user-interface and go directly into the editor.
The update for ACR will be on http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ and choose Camera RAW - Windows/Mac at the top, and then after choosing the ACR version, the page that comes up should have a link for a PSE-specific install process.  The text on the main ACR update page will have the Photoshop instructions so you have to look for a link for the PSE instructions.  It should involve downloading a ZIP, extracting the files, and replacing the plug-in file manually.

  • Adobe Camera Raw in Elements 11

I'm using Windows 8.1. In Elements 11 I updated Camera Raw, but although it has confirmed the update, I cannot find it in Elements. Help please

    Hi,
To find out which version of Camera Raw that you have, load the editor and go to Help -> About plug-in ->  Camera Raw.
To edit raw files, just open them in the editor - Camera Raw will automatically load first. Make your adjustments in Camera Raw and then click on Open Image to load the image into the normal editor.
To edit a JPG with Camera Raw, open the editor, use Open As to select the image and change the Open As format to Camera Raw. Then you proceed as above.
If you are having problems reading raw files, please tell us which camera they come from.
    Hope that helps.

  • Camera raw and elements 11

I can't get the latest version of camera raw into elements 11. Please help! It doesn't show up as an update, and the downloaded version says it's incompatible. Version 7.1.0.354 came with my load of Elements. It seems that the latest version is 7.4 (or 8.2, depending on where you look).
    This shouldn't be so difficult.

Yes, "updates" is not an available selection. So I used the applications manager, and it tells me I am up to date. But that can't be the case.

  • Adobe Camera RAW and Lightroom?

Can I  use Adobe Camera RAW in conjunction with Lightroom?

LR can send an image (or images) from LR to Photoshop by rendering them in ACR.
Sure, it can subcontract the job and passing images to HDR within PS is an Adobe-scripted example of that. However it is AFAICT an arbitrary design decision, that it must be ACR which  performs the conversion in these interactions; rather than (as various third-party utilities already do) getting LR to do this part via external files.
IOW, it is only on the basis that ACR is now expected to do, what we already know LR has the ability to do, that version incompatibility arises as a problem.
Let me explain: say I want to blend bracketed exposures together. I have a current version of LR but an older version of PS. The "Edit in.." options are therefore constrained; I cannot, as I could have done with say LR3.x and the same PS version, pass a bunch of images directly.
However, I do have the LR "plugin" (potentially misleading terminology IMO) LR/Enfuse installed. This lets me seamlessly select a bunch of images, interact with external processing which merges these into a single new image (in this case the interaction precedes the making of the rendered copies, but this could be in another order), and then view a resulting image auto-imported into the right place in my LR Catalog; and know that the extra intermediate files which this process requires (as the PS method does not) have been deleted for me.
This is functionally different but in its outcome, equivalent to what using Photomerge would have got me. The difference is that ACR incompatibility has been simply circumvented.
Might there not be an argument (inducements to upgrade PS for other reasons left aside) for Adobe facilitating the use of otherwise perfectly usable older PS versions together with LR, by this kind of route? Harnessing the two horses to the wagon separately, rather than under a single yoke? Providing a scripted "pass multiple images into Photoshop" LR export-based plugin, akin to what LR/Enfuse does?
I suspect there will be a lot of people who in the past have upgraded PS infrequently, and not planning to upgrade every single version going forward, who are currently re-considering their position about PS in view of the announced change of upgrade qualification.
Lightroom only gets stronger the more ways you can use it with other software, and while a "forced" upgrade of PS merely due to ACR considerations may be tolerated when ACR is central to your workflow, this is more likely to be resented when it is LR which is central, and the ACR question intrudes only peripherally. In that case people may settle unhappily  for some clunky workaround (toward which Adobe have simply been unhelpful, in their insistence on ACR parity as the sole solution).

  • Why do my raws look different when I view them in Adobe Bridge/Adobe Camera Raw and Canons Digital P

    Hello all,
I am sorta new to taking Raw photographs and I have been been using Adobe Bridge/Camera Raw to edit. When I take my photos (I am using a Canon t2i) I have it set to save a raw and a jpg. When I view these images in Adobe Bridge/Camera Raw I notice a clear difference in the jpg and raw (I understand the whole concept behind raw vs. jpg. so im not questioning why one looks different) It is obvious all the adjustments that were applied to my jpg. vs the natural raw.  My question is: When I view the same two images in the software that came with my camera, canon digital photo professionals, the canon and raw look almost identical.... My assumption is that canon is applying the same "adjustments" to my raw as it did to the jpgs?  Has anyone used these two programs and noticed this?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
    Michelle

Can't say I'm an expert on DPP myself either.  I've only run it a few times myself.
If you're seeing Photoshop freeze just by looking at the File Info tab, that's certainly not expected and you should start a tread specifically to discuss that.  The forum may be able to help you get that working.
I happen to like the color my camera delivers in its embedded JPEGs (which I use to quickly review shots via IrfanView).  Starting with that color in Camera Raw by default just feels very natural and integrated.
Without a specific custom profile to help you with the task, here's my suggestions for the next best thing:
    1.  Take an image with a range of different colors in it.
    2.  Open the embedded JPEG also using whatever means you have to do so.
    3.  Open it also in Camera Raw and make sure you're using the Camera Raw default parameters.
    4.  Go into the Camera Calibration tab (little camera icon), and choose the Camera Standard profile as provided by Adobe.
    5.  Tweak the various sliders so as to match the color between what you're seeing in the JPEG and Camera Raw.
    6.  Save new Camera Raw defaults.
    Some notes:
Make sure you leave the White Balance on As Shot, since storing a specific white balance is probably not going to be helpful.
Test your settings and repeat the above to tweak them as needed using other images.
Keep in mind that not every application does proper color-management.  IrfanView can be set up to do so, and I don't recall whether you have to tweak a default setting to make it do that or not (it's been a while).
    Hope this helps!

  • Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop Actions

    Hi guys,
I'm having troubles with Adobe Camera Raw settings and Photoshop actions. Basically, here is what I want to do :
apply settings for the general colours, exposure, tint, etc., but keep an automatic undistortion of the images thanks to the metadata of the CR2 file.
The preset I've done is working fine, and when I'm in ACR, I can apply the same preset to different photos with different lenses. Then when I'm opening them in photoshop, they look allright.
The problem seems to appear when I'm creating the action in photoshop. No matter if the lens profile is set to 'auto' in the preset, it looks like it's applying the one from the original preset. Then let's say the preset was created with a 50mm, then when I launch the action on a 85mm, the undistortion is wrong ...
If anybody has an idea how to fix the problem, that would be really helpful !
      Thanks a lot,
      Julien

  • Adobe Camera Raw and Aperture

Ok.. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because if what I am saying is actually true, then Aperture has some seriously frustrating issues.
I use Aperture 3 to organize my photos and to do minor corrections, but the majority of my photo editing takes place in Photoshop CS5. I shoot in Raw so I expect to be able to use Adobe's wonderful Camera Raw plugin before opening a photo in Photoshop.
Aperture gives you the ability to edit a photo in Photoshop and have the edited photo go back into Aperture. Thats a great feature. Unfortunately, it seems that if I try to send a raw photo from aperture to photoshop, it will not open in the Adobe Camera Raw plug in. It simply opens in photoshop. If I just drag the thumbnail from aperture into photoshop, it will open the camera raw dialogue and everythings great.. but if I do it that way, it will not update in aperture once I am done editing.
It would be totally fine if I could just save the photoshop file and reimport it into aperture, but when I do that, it just shows up as a blank white photo, instead of the actual photo.
So long story short there is no way to use Aperture AND adobe camera raw. I don't want to use Bridge.
or is there???? Please give me a solution here or I want my money back.
Or is there a way to reopen the camera raw function in photoshop, once the photo is already opened?
    Thanks for your help!

I understand your concern, as I wondered the same thing. You might want to read http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11666552&#11666552
regarding a possible workflow for your situation (altho' they are using CS3, not CS5).
I use CS4 but want to move to CS5 to get the additional features of ACR (excellent noise reduction, lens-specific aberration controls, etc.) Thus, my interest in using ACR vs AP3 for some of my images.
I know now that AP3 is doing RAW processing at the moment of import, and that 'file' is no longer able to be processed by ACR via AP3. I was wondering about your trick of dragging the thumbnail to Photoshop and having it open in ACR. I cannot duplicate this, and I've tried different methods. If I could do this, that would be half the battle. (Can you enlighten me?) I will also take a look at Catapult.
I know of no way to open ACR while an image is open in Photoshop (APS). The plugin seems to kick in only when you open it from Bridge or the Finder.
Regarding the blank white photo, I'm assuming it is a PSD with no thumbnail. I have seen this when I import 'old' PSD's into AP3. I fixed this by going into the Preferences in APS, under File Handling/File Compatibility make sure you set 'Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility' to 'Always'. Then, you must open the blank white photo files and Save As... the same file name to overwrite the blank one. You should then see the thumbnail. (Also in APS Preferences, set File Saving Options, Image Preview to 'Always Save').
Granted, not having the option of easily using ACR is a tough pill to swallow for those of us who are in the Bridge/APS camp. I will readily forgo the 'pleasures' of using Bridge for AP3. I will NEVER give up APS since I need layers and graphic/text capabilities it offers. So a smooth interaction between AP3 and APS is a must for me. However, AP3 offers so much more than Lightroom, that I won't look back, now that I've made the switch. Good luck!

  • How do I have elements 9 sequence the camera raw and jpg versions of a  photo together?

I shoot with a Canon using both camara raw (cr2) and jpg images of the same photo.  Elements used to sequence those in organizer so that the cr2 and jpg shots were displayed next to each other, which is very convenient for tagging and editing.  Now elements 9 is sequencing an entire day of cr2 followed by the entire day of jpg, which is a giant pain for organizing and editing.  Is there some way to sequence them together?  i.e. vacation 001.cr2 and vacation 001.jpg next to each other in the organizer.

    Hi,
The 700D requires Camera Raw 7.4 or later but that is not compatible with Photoshop Elements 9.
If you don't want to upgrade PSE, you need to use the DNG converter. You have to copy your CR2 files to a folder and then use the DNG converter to convert the files (CR2 to DNG), preferably into a new folder. Then you can import the DNG files into your PSE 9.
The DNG converter is a standalone application and does not integrate into PSE.

  • Camera raw and elements 4.0 on a mac

I run elements 4 (version 4.0 according to the 'about elements' box) on a power pc mac running Tiger 10.4.9.
I've downloaded camera raw 4.1 and installed it as per the adobe instructions into the 'file formats' folder, removing the previous version onto the desktop. When I launch elements and check the 'about plug ins' list, camera raw keeps coming up as v3.3.
The same thing happened when I tried to load camera raw 4.0. The result is that when importing NEF files from my Nikon D80, instead of a sophisticated window with sliders for all kinds of things, I get a really simple window where all I can alter is the orientation, white balance and the exposure.
I can't believe that the raw converter is that basic - snapshots in magazines and online suggest I should have far more control. Can anybody please tell me where I might be going wrong? Thanks.

Please try it with version 3.7. You can find it at
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3591
To install with Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0:
    1. Exit Photoshop Elements and Adobe Bridge
    2. Open the Finder
    3. Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user's home folder).
    4. Navigate to:
    (Please read directory carefully)
    Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS2/File Formats
    5. Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in,
Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4.
    7. Launch Photoshop Elements or Adobe Bridge.
Also make sure that you don't have the Nikon raw/nef plug in installed and over riding the Adobe one. Sorry, I don't have a Nikon to be able to tell you the name of their plugin.

  • Camera RAW and Elements Hang during Thumbnail Generation...

Ever since I upgraded to the newest version of Camera Raw, I have been having issues with Photoshop Elements hanging while automatically generating thumbnails, anyone else notice this issue?
Hang is not quite the right description... So I import a batch of pictures and PSE starts processing the files ("Generating Thumbnails" is in the tool bar at the bottom). After a few images are processed, it just stops. If I try to force an update of the thumbnail ("Update Thumbnail" option under the Edit menu), a broken image just come back. No mater what I do, it just sits there and will not resolve the thumbnail issue until I close out PSE and go into task manager and make sure that the task is killed.
On the other hand, while I can not get the thumbnails generated, I can go into the Editor with a raw image and it opens in Camera Raw without any problems.
Anyone else having similar issues? Know anything to try?
    * Yes I have the most recent version of Camera Raw. When I downgrade to an older version of Camera Raw, the issue seems to go away.
    * I can not use the old version all the time because I have a Nikon D300, which is only supported in the newest version. I confirmed the working of things with some of my D200 files.
    * I am using Photoshop Elements 6.0, mainly for organization of all my images because I take a lot of them.
    * I am doing this on a Windows XP x64 machine
    * Based on a post someplace, I did check that my default printer on my machine is set to a printer that is always on the machine (PDF writer) and not a network printer/printer that has been disconnected.
Thank you for any help/suggestions that anyone can give me...
    -Matt

Have you tried the Elements forum?
Not many visitors here have Elements, mostly PSCS and Bridge.
If you where using Bridge I would suggest to purge cache and or refresh the preferences but I have no clue if this is possible in Elements? :-(
    Edit:
Do you have enough RAM installed, generating thumbnails from RAW can take a lot of energy from the OS...
