Adobe Camera Raw Plug-in

I have Photoshop CS3 (Adobe Camera Raw plug-in 4.6.0.30) and Adobe Bridge CS5.1 (Came with Illustrator CS5 Academic Edition) on a Mac with OS X 10.6.8. I'm trying to change my editing practices to take advantage of Camera Raw. I try to open it in Bridge and I get the message: "Camera raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature." What am I doing wrong?

You simply have a version conflict since your PS can only handle its own, older version of ACR. Nothing you can do about short of upgrading both programs to CS6 or something lioek that...

  • I cannot access Adobe Camera Raw Plug-in although it's listed in CS6 "PHOTOSHOP" menu along with my other plug ins.  And I can't find it on my iMAC (10.9.5)

In CS6, how do I access the Adobe Camera Raw plug in that's listed with my other (easily accessible) plug ins:  I can't find it through "automate", or "Filter" or "extensions"..  I am on iMAC 10.9.5 (Mavericks)

I believe camera raw as a filter is CC only. You can access camera raw by selecting a raw, tiff or jpg image from your drive. Raw is the only one that will open by default. You must tell camera raw to open tiff and jpg in the preferences.
You can also use file>open or file>place then specify camera raw as file type. In this case it will open any of the three formats without changing the preferences.
Once the image is in Photoshop, it should be a smart object if you choose open as object instead of open as image in camera raw. As a smart object, you can double click on the thumbnail in the layers panel. This will open camera raw with that image.

  • Correct location for Adobe camera raw plug-in

I am using Photoshop CS on an Apple G4 running OSX 10.4.8. I need to install the latest acr updates so I can work with raw images taken with my Canon EOS 350.
Is it possible to install support for raw images from my camera, or do i have to upgrade to CS2?
The folder path for installation of the latest upgrade is different and simply replacing the existing plug-ihn doesn't appear to work.

The Canon EOS 350 (DIgital Rebel XT) was not added to Camera Raw until version 3.1. Photoshop CS only supports Camera Raw 2.x.
You will need to upgrade to CS2 or use the DNG Converter utility to convert the raw files from the 350 to a DNG file that Photoshop CS can work with.

  • Using Adobe Camera Raw as External Editor

I've recently purchased Aperture 2.1 and am very pleased with everything thus far. I capture the majority of my photos in the RAW format (Nikon NEF specifically), and the one thing I'm trying to work out is this - with iPhoto I am able to choose Adobe Photoshop as my 'External Editor,' and when opening an image for adjustments, iPhoto sends the the picture in its native format. Consequently, RAW formatted images open with the Adobe Camera RAW plug-in, jpegs right into Photoshop and so on. With Aperture I notice that I am still able to select Photoshop as my 'External Editor,' but instead of sending the native format, Aperture allows only the 'temporary' format options of TIFF and PSD (8 and 16-bit). Needless to say, the files open directly into Photoshop -instead of the Camera RAW plug-in that I would prefer for my RAW files. Does anyone know of any work-arounds or possible solutions to this issue?

iPhoto has no RAW conversion controls, but just makes a copy of the file for iPhoto edits.
When you choose to edit it in photoshop, it sends the original over to Adobe Camera RAW. This is NOT a non-destructive workflow.
Aperture has its own RAW converter- a quite good one- so the need for ACR is removed, and the workflow IS non-destructive. You should only be going to Photoshop for the things that Aperture is not designed to do like compositing and hi-end retouching
The only work around is to export the master then open it in ACR, but that workflow would be senseless.
Honestly, if you prefer ACR, then you should be using Bridge or Lightroom for DAM as well.

  • Adobe Camera Raw and Aperture

Ok.. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because if what I am saying is actually true, then Aperture has some seriously frustrating issues.
I use Aperture 3 to organize my photos and to do minor corrections, but the majority of my photo editing takes place in Photoshop CS5. I shoot in Raw so I expect to be able to use Adobe's wonderful Camera Raw plugin before opening a photo in Photoshop.
Aperture gives you the ability to edit a photo in Photoshop and have the edited photo go back into Aperture. Thats a great feature. Unfortunately, it seems that if I try to send a raw photo from aperture to photoshop, it will not open in the Adobe Camera Raw plug in. It simply opens in photoshop. If I just drag the thumbnail from aperture into photoshop, it will open the camera raw dialogue and everythings great.. but if I do it that way, it will not update in aperture once I am done editing.
It would be totally fine if I could just save the photoshop file and reimport it into aperture, but when I do that, it just shows up as a blank white photo, instead of the actual photo.
So long story short there is no way to use Aperture AND adobe camera raw. I don't want to use Bridge.
or is there???? Please give me a solution here or I want my money back.
Or is there a way to reopen the camera raw function in photoshop, once the photo is already opened?
    Thanks for your help!

I understand your concern, as I wondered the same thing. You might want to read http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11666552&#11666552
regarding a possible workflow for your situation (altho' they are using CS3, not CS5).
I use CS4 but want to move to CS5 to get the additional features of ACR (excellent noise reduction, lens-specific aberration controls, etc.) Thus, my interest in using ACR vs AP3 for some of my images.
I know now that AP3 is doing RAW processing at the moment of import, and that 'file' is no longer able to be processed by ACR via AP3. I was wondering about your trick of dragging the thumbnail to Photoshop and having it open in ACR. I cannot duplicate this, and I've tried different methods. If I could do this, that would be half the battle. (Can you enlighten me?) I will also take a look at Catapult.
I know of no way to open ACR while an image is open in Photoshop (APS). The plugin seems to kick in only when you open it from Bridge or the Finder.
Regarding the blank white photo, I'm assuming it is a PSD with no thumbnail. I have seen this when I import 'old' PSD's into AP3. I fixed this by going into the Preferences in APS, under File Handling/File Compatibility make sure you set 'Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility' to 'Always'. Then, you must open the blank white photo files and Save As... the same file name to overwrite the blank one. You should then see the thumbnail. (Also in APS Preferences, set File Saving Options, Image Preview to 'Always Save').
Granted, not having the option of easily using ACR is a tough pill to swallow for those of us who are in the Bridge/APS camp. I will readily forgo the 'pleasures' of using Bridge for AP3. I will NEVER give up APS since I need layers and graphic/text capabilities it offers. So a smooth interaction between AP3 and APS is a must for me. However, AP3 offers so much more than Lightroom, that I won't look back, now that I've made the switch. Good luck!

  • Camera Raw Plug-in for CS2

I have an iMac running OS 10.5 with Photoshop CS2... I am unable to open raw files produced on my Kodak pro14n camera. They are coded as ".DCR"files. I have been searching for days at the various adobe downloads/plug-ins sites and have downloaded several "Camera Raw" plugins, but still I can't open any raw files. I get the error--"Not the right type of document"..Wondering if someone knows of the appropriate plugin.or what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks..

[EDITED this post. Please see next one.]
    Chris,
Support for that camera was added after CS2 had ceased to be supported by Adobe. That means that you will
never be able to open the raw files from that camera
    directly in CS2.
    You have two options:
    * Either update to Photoshop CS3 so you can run the current version of the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in (ACR 4.4.1 or ACR 4.5beta, neither og which runs under Photoshop CS2); or
    * download the latest free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter (version 4.4.1 or 4.5beta), to convert your files to raw DNG files that you can open in ACR 3.7 hosted by Photoshop CS2.

  • Trouble with Camera Raw Plug-in

Hello, Can someone please help...I just started shooting in RAW and have installed the Adobe Camera Raw Plug-in with DNG Converter version 4.6 for Photoshop CS3, but still cannot open my .CR2 files!  They are filed under:  Adobe Photoshop CS3/Plug-Ins/File Formats.  Could the problem be that it's filed incorrectly?  Do I need to do something else other than choosing "Open" under the File menu in Photoshop?
Thanks for any help you can provide?

    No, no, no!
    autumnhill wrote:
And I'm using Mac OSX so Camera Raw was filed correctly.
No, I'm also running Mac OS X, and the screen shot shows the ONLY correct location.
Quit Photoshop AND Bridge, put the ACR plug-in in the correct location, then re-launch both Photoshop and Bridge.
You will probably need to Purge the Cache through the Tools menu in Bridge for each folder containing raw files.
Where you put it, Bridge cannot see it, and it will cause you performance problems and give you all kinds of grief later on.
    autumnhill wrote:
…so I moved it back and everything is ok.  However I did move the DNG converter to your suggested location.
That was a monumentally… err… …unwise move.  Undo it ASAP.

  • Has anyone encountered this error message with Adobe Camera Raw 6.3 Plug-in?

Ever since I installed the Adobe Camera Raw 6.3 Plug-in for Elements 8 I get the following error message when I launch Editor:
"The Application or DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8 \File Formats\Win 64\Camera Raw. 8 bi is not a valid Windows Image. Please check this against your installation diskette"
(As I downloaded the plug-in I don't have the option of checking against the installation diskette as the error message suggests.)
If I click OK on the error message the launch process re-commences and Editor eventually opens and operates effectively.
Does anyone have a suggestion about how I might remove this error message? Alternatively, do I run a risk by continuing to simply ignore the error message?
    Thanks
    Kinyo Jim

Delete the camera raw 8bi file from the File Formats folder.
Download ACR 6.2 and extract the files.
Drag the camera raw 8bi file from the download extract folder into the File formats folder.
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats\
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows, then move the plug-in file from the unzipped download folder by navigating to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats\

Please clarify your version of Photoshop.
    There is no CC6.
    There is

    Photoshop CC
    Photoshop CC 2014
Also, what is your operating system?

  • Where do I find the Adobe PS Camera Raw plug in

I have Adobe PS CS6 Extended.  Where do I find the Adobe PS Camera Raw plug in ???

It depends on what operating system you're running.
On Windows x64 you'll find it in two places (32 bit and 64 bit plug-ins):
    32 bit:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS6\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
    64 bit:  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS6\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
On Windows 32 bit it will be here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS6\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
I'm not completely sure for a Mac, but an internet search implies that it's here:
    Hard Drive/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/File Formats/CS6

  • I am unable to open raw files from my Canon T1i in Adobe Camera Raw of my version CS3 of Photoshop.  I have tried to update my ACR by downloading version 4.6 from the Adobe website but I am still unable to open raw files, just JPEG.  Is there a way to use

I am unable to open raw files taken on my Canon Rebel T1i in my version of Photoshop CS3.  When I import raw files into Bridge they come up as patches with CR2 on them and when clicked on, a notice comes up stating that Photoshop does not recognize these files.  I tried to update my Adobe Camera Raw by downloading version 4.6 from the Adobe Website, but when I clicked on the plus-in, I got another message that Photoshop does not recognize this file.  I spoke with a representative from Canon who said that I could not update CS3 and that I should subscribe to the Cloud.  I would prefer to use my CS3, if possible.  Can anyone advise me what to do?

The T1i was first supported by Camera Raw 5.4 which is only compatible with CS4 and later

  • I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1.  An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6.  If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates.  If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.

  • 10.4.7 and Photoshop CS2, Adobe Camera Raw.

Since updating to 10.4.7 Adobe Bridge will not build thumbnails of DNG files and only builds 1/6th size thumbnails of NEF files. The Camera Raw Plug-in is in the correct folder but Bridge will not show Camera Raw Preferences. All Adobe troubleshooting has been followed with no success, purging cahes etc.. No problems prior to updating to 10.4.7 and the latest iTunes. Any suggestions.

There is no obvious reason why CS2 should not run on your G4. Have you kept the CS2 up to date? Updated Quicktime? Kept 10.4.7 up to date?
There have been known issues which recent (over the last 2-3 months) updates from both Apple and Adobe are said to have resolved.
One obvious suspect is third party plug-ins. Have you tried disabling them (if you have any), and then re-enabling them one by one to see if this makes a difference?
You could also try the Adobe's own forum: http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/index.html although it can be hard to navigate!
