Adobe Camera Raw Update in Photoshop CC

Problem is my Lightroom 5 is using ACR 8.4 but when I use Ctrl E to send my photo over toe Photoshop CC for editing in TIFF it always says that the ACR is incompatible as a different version with the ACR in Photoshop being only only on version of 8.3.0.141 !!  It says to use PS update to bring ACR up to date within PS but that just tells me PS is all up to date as I would expect being a CC subscriber.  So I have two different versions of ACR, a later one in LR5 and PS CC with an earlier version.
So how do I update ACR in Photoshop CC to version 8.4 so it is the same version as in LR5 and avoid these error messages when porting photos over form LR5 to PS CC and so it remains in sync with LR5 in the future too ???

There should be a link to download ACR 8.4 for PS and manually install it, but I can't find it right now - keep getting sent to an ad page for CC.  I'm not that familiar with LR, but there might be a feature that allows you to export your files as a lower version of ACR until someone can find the 8.4 download.

  • Output sharpening in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) and Photoshop CS5

Output sharpening in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) and Photoshop CS5
I want to do two-pass sharpening - capture and output - with output capture done just before I print. I do the initial (capture) sharpening in the ACR Detail/Sharpening panel, with Amount slider set to, for example, 100.  Then, I open the image to PS CS5 as a Smart Object, and use layers and masks for further editting.
My question is, can I go back to ACR for the final (output) sharpening pass?  When I re-open the file in ACR, the Sharpening Amount slider is back to zero, but the other three sliders are still at the settings I used at the start of the process, i.e., the capture sharpening.  If I again set the Amount slider to a positive value, then again open the image in PS for printing, will my second pass through the ACR Sharpening panel take effect - will it accumulate on top of the initial sharpening?
By the way, the reason I want do output sharpening in ACR rather than, say, PS Unsharp Mask, is so I can use the Masking slider in ACR, which is much easier than the comparable techniques available in PS.  I am aware that some say you should not do any masking for the output sharpening. I'd like to though.
    Thanks for ideas.

This is pretty much the way I do it, and I also always found ACR sharpening superior to anything in Photoshop. There is the "sharpen for output" in ACR, but you have little control over it.
The tricky part is feeding the file through ACR a second time. I don't think re-opening the Smart Object will do anything more than you could have done the first time. I do it with a rendered TIFF, and have an intricate set of actions that I run in the Image Processor Pro. It's a mess, and you don't want to know.
The frustrating part is how to action ACR. I just can't figure it out. It'll work, and then I have to change some setting and the action stops working. I suspect you need a script, but so far I haven't found any.
So I've come to a compromise: I first process to TIFF in a temp folder, then I bulk open them in ACR to sharpen, then a second process to finish up.
For less critical files I have a sharpening action that comes close, involving edge masks and blend ifs, using smart sharpen which tends to preserve edges better than unsharp mask, and with less accumulation of noise.
Bottom line: I'm also very interested in further comments to this. BTW, I recently bought Lightroom 4, so maybe there is a posibility using that in a mixed workflow.

  • Adobe Camera Raw plugin for Photoshop 7

Is it still possible to purchase the Adobe Camera Raw plugin for Photoshop 7?
If so, can the plugin read *.raw files from an Olympus C-8080?

    HI mattscreative,
Yes I've installed that but that imports .orf files and my camera saves .raw files.
    Thanks,

  • Does Adobe Camera Raw updated to Mirrorless Cameras yet? I was specifically asking for Photoshop CS 6.

Does Adobe Camera Raw(CS6) have updates for Mirrorless Camera Raw Files?

Here is a list of all the cameras that are supported by Adobe Camera Raw:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
I'm not familiar enough with camera models to pick out the ones that might be mirrorless. You are probably aware that there is a Camera Raw 8.6 available for Photoshop CS6. It will support all of the listed cameras. However, any new features that have been added to Camera Raw 8.x will not be available. Those new features are only available in Photoshop CC.

  • Having trouble opening camera raw files. Already downloaded Camera Raw Update for Photoshop CS5. I have a pc.

Please Help? Having trouble opening camera raw files. Already downloaded Camera Raw update. I have a pc.

If the camera is fairly new then the version of ACR you have with CS5 won't be able to read those file. You'll need to upgrade to a newer version of Photoshop or use Lightroom 5.
Once a new version of Photoshop comes out Adobe does not support updating ACR from the older version of PS.

  • Images looks darker in Adobe Camera Raw than in Photoshop

when I open a raw image in adobe camera raw at 16 bit Adobe RGB and don't make any adjustments in acr when I then bring it into Photoshop is looks softer contrast and lighter.

    James Bechdel wrote:
I think I solved it. Every place I could change to Adobe RGB I did
Er...I don't really think that solves anything. But you may succeed in temporarily hiding the problem.
You do have PS color management policies at "preserve embedded profiles", right? As long as you do, there's no particular need to synchronize PS / ACR / Lr color settings, any source profile should be honored anywhere.
The reason Adobe RGB works as monitor profile is because it's a known good, not corrupt, profile - not because it's the same as a document profile somewhere. Those two are not supposed to be the same. But for a wide gamut monitor it's close enough to work for diagnostic purposes.
NEC Spectraview is a solid and reliable calibrator. But that doesn't help if the OS doesn't load the profile correctly.
One gotcha with Spectraview (and Eizo Colornavigator) is that it's so easy to switch calibration target and the associated monitor profile. That's fine, but you also need to relaunch any color managed application that happens to use the monitor profile. That profile is loaded by the application at startup, and it will continue to use it even if it's changed at system level.

  • How to install Camera RAW update for Photoshop CS3?

I know this is an ancient version! But for now it's all I need. Anyway...
My Adobe Updater says "No Internet connection.  Please check your Internet settings and/or firewall.  Waiting for connection..." That's the first problem.  I figured out how to manually update Photoshop and Bridge, but Adobe Updater still shows this message when trying to check for updates.  Also, I've tried to update Camera Raw from 4.0 to 4.6 and I can't figure out how to manually install it.  I knkow the website says to do the following:
    Mac:
Exit Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Bridge.
    Open the Finder.
Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user’s home folder).
    Navigate to Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats.
Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensureyou keep this version in case you need to revert back.
Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4.
Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.
I manually entered "Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats" and it says this folder doesn't exist.  Can anyone help me update my camera raw?!
    Thank you so much!

There are one or two for whom the name would sit all too well.  I think naff is used fairly universally in the UK.  My wife comes from oop north, (Cheshire) and I've had to learn a whole new language since meeting her.

I hope you are not in line for an incremental change of user name — it could get way too confusing.   I vote that you should be able to return to your original user name, which had a proud and distinctive sound to it.  Either that or sound like a baddy in the old Bonanza TV show.

  • Trouble with Adobe Camera Raw, Nikon D750, Photoshop CC 2014

I have Photoshop CC 2014 running on an HP ZBook 15 with Windows 7 Professional. I recently downloaded Camera Raw 8.7.311. I did not install the DNG converter. I shoot raw in my Nikon D750. I download the NEF images to my HP laptop using a memory card reader. I installed Bridge from Creative Cloud. When I check in Photoshop CC 2014, it says the Camera Raw 8.7.1.311 plug-in is present. But if I try to open a NEF image, it fails and says it is an unsupported file type. When I go into Bridge, the "Open using Camera Raw" option is faded and cannot be selected. So what do I do? TIA, Rob

Success! My problem was I had the old version of the Nikon software on my computer and I had used that to download the photos. I copied the NEF files directly from my memory card reader and then could open them no problem in Photoshop CC 2014. Many thanks to gener7 and all who made suggestions.

  • Adobe Camera Raw VS. Photoshop?

When should you use Camera Raw for white balancing and other image adjustments vs. Photoshop. Besides working with raw camera format images, are there things that ACR does better than PS?
    Thanks.

I am of a mind with D Fosse on this one.  Make it look right initially in ACR then make it right in Photoshop.
You might find there are those who seem adamant about doing virtually EVERYTHING in Camera Raw, but that seems flawed to me, because it virtually ignores the power of Photoshop proper - and make no mistake, there's real power there.
You should know that I experimented quite heavily for days to determine what all the sliders do and to finally choose a set of ACR defaults I can live with as a starting point - knowing that even with that set of defaults I'll be adjusting sliders in the ACR dialog for individual images.
Note that the 2010 process in ACR does not embody as much noise reduction by default as the previous 2003 process did.  Don't be surprised if you end up dialing-in quite a bit more of it in the converter than you thought you might.  And it's not simple; the results don't depend on just one slider, but a combination of several noise reduction and detail sliders.  Tricky stuff to say the least, but it is conquerable.
I don't think there's any shortcut for experimenting then looking critically at the results.  I found experimentation when I was getting close to the settings I wanted that went all the way through to creation of my various needed results (e.g., web images and prints) was helpful.  In other words, when you have things where you think you like them, actually TRY making whatever products you like from your raw files - including making the color and exposure corrections you would normally do, sharpening, etc., and actually making prints or whatever.  Then you'll know what to expect when you're on the hot seat to produce.

  • Adobe Camera Raw Plugin for Photoshop Elements 4

I have downloaded the latest Raw Plugin for Elements 4 successfully and have gone through all the steps except i havent installed Raw Plugin as yet, i would like to know if i have to unzip the files in the downloaded Plugin before i install into Elements 4 or install as is and unzip when it's installed into Elements 4 ? Many thanks Lloyd fro OZ

In order to use the new plugin in Photoshop Elements 4, you will need to run the 4.0.1 Updater. Support for this version of ACR is the ONLY feature of the 4.0.1 updater.
Unfortunately, the new ACR plugin came out before we could get the PSE 4.0.1 updater out, so we need to do a workaround for the time being.
Until the Updater gets posted (which we expect to be on or before May 20), you can use the converter to convert your Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 files to RAW, then use them in the program.
The Converter can be found at: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3604
Sorry for the delay between the ACR posting and the PSE Mac updater posting.

  • Photoshop 12.0 Camera Raw Updates never download. Any ideas?

Trying to download the Camera Raw update for Photoshop 12.0.  No matter how many times I quit and re-try, the updates download but never complete the installation process.  This is common to all my Adobe products, so I'm guessing it's the updater. In the progress bar I can see the downloads taking place, but at the end of the process the updater gives me the message> " [product name]. There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.
No amount of quitting and restarting etc has any impact.
I would prefer not to have to uninstall lightroom etc so I've held off doing that in the hopes there's an easier way.
Is this just me or do others have this problem too?
    Photoshop 12.0
    iMac early 2014 3.4Ghz, 8GB RAM, OS 10.9.5.

I’d suggest posting this sort of issue in the Downloading and Installing forum: https://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup
I’ve seen Adobe support people respond to things in that forum during daylight hours in the US, or you might try just starting a Chat session indicating you’re having issues installing Elements (or maybe Photoshop) by going to adobe.com, clicking on Menu then choosing Learn and Support and jump through the hoops to narrow down what you’re having an issue with, then click Still Need Help and choose Chat.
The Adobe Camera Raw forum is for the PS plug-in and perhaps general raw-decoding questions not specific to a product.
Not for either Lightroom or “Photoshop 12” issues.  By “Photoshop 12” do you mean Photoshop Elements 12 (PSE12) or Photoshop CS5 which is also known as Photoshop 12?

  • Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop Actions

    Hi guys,
I'm having troubles with Adobe Camera Raw settings and Photoshop actions. Basically, here is what I want to do :
apply settings for the general colours, exposure, tint, etc., but keep an automatic undistortion of the images thanks to the metadata of the CR2 file.
The preset I've done is working fine, and when I'm in ACR, I can apply the same preset to different photos with different lenses. Then when I'm opening them in photoshop, they look allright.
The problem seems to appear when I'm creating the action in photoshop. No matter if the lens profile is set to 'auto' in the preset, it looks like it's applying the one from the original preset. Then let's say the preset was created with a 50mm, then when I launch the action on a 85mm, the undistortion is wrong ...
If anybody has an idea how to fix the problem, that would be really helpful !
      Thanks a lot,
      Julien
