Adobe camera raw window won't resize and can't reach buttons

When I open an image from bridge into adobe camera raw 6.1 (Photoshop CS5) on my laptop, the camera raw window fills all of the screen (top to bottom) and the buttons at the bottom of the window are below the task bar. Thus I can't open the image in photoshop except by hitting the enter key. I can't reach the open, etc buttons. The window won't resize and there are no icon/buttons in the right upper corner to go to/from full screen. When I hit the icon in the top right hand menu bar in ACR (to go to full screen size) the window then fills the whole width of the screen in addition to the height, but no matter what I do I can't get the height of the window to shrink, so that I can access the icons at the bottom of the screen. What am I missing? Thanks

Don't worry about turning aero off just yet.
There are two key first questions:
What is your screen resolution (width in pixels x height in pixels)?  Right-click on desktop, choose Screen Resolution.
What setting have you chosen for the display size (Smaller, Medium, Larger) in the Display dialog?  Right-click on desktop, choose Personalize, then Display.

Close and restart Photoshop if you have not already done so.
In Photoshop, go to the Help - About Plug-in... menu then choose Camera Raw.  What version does it say there?

  • Adobe Camera Raw window-Only full screen?

I use Elements 7.0.  In an attempt to improve my photography, I’ve been concentrating on getting as close to a proper exposure in camera using zone system etc.  To further get close to the appropriate exposure after the shot is taken, I’ve begun to shoot in raw.  I’ve bought a couple of books, videos etc. and I’m getting the basics down fairly well.
I have one basic question.  I’ve searched help both in Elements and within this forum and I can’t find anything that addresses my question.
When I select a nef image (Nikon D90) in the Organizer and go to “Edit” and then “Full Edit”, the Adobe Camera Raw box opens up in full screen with the selected image displayed.  No part of the desktop is displayed, including the taskbar.
Is there a way to open up ACR that is not full screen?  I’m so new that I still need to refer to help to figure out what certain sliders do.  I have a 25.5 diagonal monitor, so I have the screen real estate to have a fairly large ACR window while at the same time displaying a help screen.
    Thank you for your input.

Not sure if this will help, but on my ACR to the right of the Preview checkbox there is a window-double-arrow symbol that toggles full-screen mode in ACR so even if ACR started up in full-screen you could unmaximize it and then resize it somewhat smaller.  I don't know how to start it up non-maximized in the scenario you describe because I don't use that scenario and my ACR starts up in whatever mode I last closed it, full-screen or not.

  • Why external editor Cs5 doesn't open in Adobe Camera Raw window?

I am workning in Apertute 3 and I want to edit some photos in Photoshop Cs5. I am working with RAW files, but when I want to open the file in external editor, it doesn't open in Adobe Camera Raw so I am loosing the Adobe Camera Raw adjustment abilities. Is there perhaps a way how to set up Aperture to comunicate with Photoshop Cs5 so it opens photos in Camera Raw window? I think in previous version of Aperture this was possible. Thanks.

Editing in the external editor (from within aperture) is only possible for Versions, not for masters, afaik. Since it would be pointless to export a Version again in some raw format, Aperture offers high quality lossless formats to export versions - tiff and Photoshop psd.
If you want to do the raw processing externally, you will have to edit the master image file:
export the master, or reveal a managed master and copy it to Photoshop, then reimport it.
To edit the master in Photoshop and to reimport it, you could use an automator service: I put a sample workflow and some instructions on how to use and modify it on this page: feel free to modify it according to your needs.

After you have loaded the repair disc, shut down the computer. Then power it up and press F12 to reach the boot-priority menu. Select the optical drive there.
What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?
If you can't boot from the repair disc, there's something wrong with the hardware, the BIOS, or the disc.

  • Bridge CS6 bad preview after adjustment in Adobe Camera Raw 7.0

    Hi,
when i update camera raw from 6.5 to 6.6 the preview can`t give me right preview only after 1 or more adjustments in adobe camera raw (yes, "Always High Quality"and "Generate Preview-Size Previews").
Image apears and stays like when we open it in camera raw in the first few seconds with the yellow exclamation mark.
Months ago the only solution i found after several reinstals of phoshop, was to turn back to camera raw 6.5.
Now im trying beta bridge cs6 and problem come back for me again.
    I use Nikon D3x with 14 bits ~49MB .nef files with Windows 7 64 bits .
Is any one have same problem? And why only in 6.6 (and new camera raw 7.0) and not in 6.5?
    Thanks

When I saved a image to my desktop and wanted to open in Preview so I could do some altra fast tweeks like add sepia and then resaved it came up that I didn't have aothourization to save changes.  I then as suggested went to finder - get info - and unlocked the file and entered the desktop password when prompted and closed but it still won't save the changes. I don't want to change it to open as a PS file because it is a JPEG and takes allot of effort when preview cnages under tools color is so efficient.  Other suggestions to try?

  • Adobe Camera Raw - CPU or RAM?

    Hey All!
Please read the whole post, but if you want to cut to the chase, my question is: for ACR conversions would I be better off with an (Windows) 8-core system and 6gigs of ram, or a 4-core system and 12 gigs of ram?
I am a professional photographer who, after upgrading to some equipment that spits out serious file sizes, needs to upgrade his computer system.  I shoot almost exclusively RAW and I rely primarily on Adobe Camera Raw to convert my files and open them in photoshop.  While photoshop performance is a consideration, my biggest concern is to be able to open ACR images ridiculously quick.
Right now, working off 21 megapixel images on my current system, it takes between 10 - 20 seconds to open/convert a single file into photoshop.  I'm aiming for a couple of seconds.
My current system (please don't laugh ... I know its bad):
    XP 32-Bit
    dual-core 2.00GHz
    3G DDR2 Ram (with 3G switch enabled)
    5400 rpm Hard Drives
    Running CS4 and ACR 5.3
    Future Set Up Considerations:
    Vista 64-Bit
    Processor/RAM
    a) quad-core-Q9600 3.00 GHz with 8 gigs DDR2 (1150MHz)
    b) i7-920 2.66 GHz with 12 gigs of DDR3 (1600 MHz) - adds about $500 to price - worth it?
    c) 2 Xeon-quad-core-5530 2.40 GHz with 6gigs DDR3 (1600Mhz) - adds about $1000 to price - worth it?
    d) something AMD?!?!
    Hard Drives (7200rpm)
2 for images storage (one as an internal backup)
1 For operating system, applications, music, etc
    1 For scratch disk
Basically, the question comes down to whether extra cores or extra ram will ultimately make the biggest difference in the ACR performance
During my testing on my (sad) currently system, here are my conclusions (let me know what you think):
Changing the 3G switch to allow the jump from 2 to 3 gigs of ram usage for applications makes no difference in performance
When I am opening up ACR files both cores show 100% usage (will that continue over 4 or 8 cores?)
Photoshop in general seems to be more CPU limited in my case than ram limited (most of the time is says 100% efficiency but things still take bloody long
From some more experienced users, or users who have quad or octa core system or systems with insane amount of ram, I woudl really appreciate your feedback!
    Thanks for the long read!
    ~
    Justin

    Hey Zeno!
    Thanks for the reply.
I would have to disagree thought that it is hard drive limited at this moment.  Take a look at my task manager:
It was running about 5% before I started converting pictures, and then as soon as I started converting the pictures, both cores hit 100% (with little gaps between pictures), and then back to 5% after they were done.  You can also see the ram alocation being increased with each picture that is opened.
So basically, I am wondering if going to a quad core will have all 4 CPU's hit 100%, thus coming close to doubling the speed.  Or if I go i7 then with hyper threading it'll go to 8 effective cores.  Or if I go to dual Xeon processors I'd have 8 cores and with hyperthreading effectively 16 cores.
I am wondering if anyone has experience with a quad core or octacore system that might be able to share some insight.
But I would agree that probably for now 6Gs of ram is probably plenty.
I also don't understand when you said:
"same goes with the CPU, the more cores you have the less benefit you get out of adding more of them"
Could you elaborate.  Its just that it takes about 15-20 seconds to convert a single file, and space that out even over 50 photos, that is still 15 minutes of wasted time.  Just trying to get the best I can without wasting needlessly.
    Thanks a ton!

  • Adobe Camera Raw ACR crashes instantly when hitting accent key

I just lost several hours of work because ACR 8 with PS CC2014 crashes every time you hit the accent key ´ which is under to the Volume up and down keys on a German keyboard.
An error message says: "The command could not be completed because of a program error." See screenshot.
    Is that a known bug?
    Thank you

BTW: The ACR interface looks like it's from the nineties. How long will Adobe drag this through upgrades?

    MPPhoto wrote:
…I am not talking about any dialog boxes here…
    …<sigh !>…
    Yes you are, Marco.
The Adobe Camera RAW window is a modal dialog box.  All its tabs are modal dialog boxes.
All dialog  boxes MUST close when the Escape key is pressed, or a key that somehow acts somewhat like the Escape key is pressed.
You cannot get around that, Marco.  Sorry if that irritates you, but that is reality.
All we do here is try to help people and offer workarounds.
If you're prone to hitting that key too often accidentally, perhaps the workaround would be for you to disable it, either by re-mapping the offending software keyboard layout, or by physically removing or otherwise disabling it in your hardware keyboard.
If the Adobe Camera Raw Team determines it is an Apple OS bug in the mapping of that key on a German keyboard, I can guarantee you that it will be quite a while before Apple fixes that.
I am now assuming you're on a Mac because of the interface shown in your screen shot.
I understand you are frustrated, and I feel for you for having lost many hours of work for a momentary gesture of inattention, but so far you have not given any details whatsoever about your setup.

  • How do I get Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) support for my new Canon EOS 7D mkii.

I purchased the new Canon EOS 7D mkii in early November. I tried opening the raw files in both the latest Creative Cloud versions of Photoshop and Lightroom. I found that Adobe Camera Raw, both the current versions and ACR 8.7 beta/release candidate, did not support this camera. I know one exists because dpreview reviewed the pre-relase version of this camera in mid-October showing images processed with an unreleased version of ACR?
How do I get this early unreleased version of ACR for this camera?

Canon Eos 7D Mark ii was launched after we released ACR 8.7 RC. So, that’s the reason it is not included in the RC version. However, it is on our radar and hoping to add it in an upcoming update itself.
As soon as it is available, it will be updated in the below article.

  • Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), Jpeg Files and Metadata

I have been using Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) with my Canon EOS 30D, an 8 MP camera, for a while now. I would make non-destructive changes to the raw file (.CR2) in ACR where the changes would be stored in an adjoining .xmp file. Jpegs of the unedited and edited camera raw files would be created so I have a before and after versions of the images that can be viewed anywhere.
Now I have a Canon EOS 5D Mark III, a 22 MP camera and the raw files are much larger. I’m looking at using camera raw on jpeg files for some for my more casual photo shoots in order to save disk space. From what I have read, I can use ACR on jpeg files and that the changes would be stored in the metadata in the jpeg file. Is there a way for the changes to be stored in an adjoining .xmp file so that the original jpeg file is not modified, much like it is done with the .CR2 files?
I am using Adobe Photoshop CS5 on a Windows 7 machine. All software is up-to-date.
Also, I have found that Adobe’s camera raw handing is different than the raw handling of the photos using Canon’s software (DPP). Is there a way to make ACR closer to what Canon’s software does?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Probably not going to happen.
I agree, Canon's color is better than Adobe's in general - I just didn't know how good the Camera Standard profile might be for your particular camera.  I had hoped maybe they'd made it a very close match.
Some time ago I got a very nice genius-level Camera Raw forum member named Vit to make me a custom profile that exactly matches the Canon color for my 40D, even to the point of emulating the way Canon fits the entire gamut of the captured image into the sRGB color space, so I'm more than happy.
Others might tell you that you're silly for wanting the color to match, but I understand completely your position - if you do get that kind of feedback just ignore it and push on.
Once you've set up a default to use Camera Standard, you may well be able to tweak the dozens of color controls to bring the Adobe default into line with the Canon color.  I did that once before getting my special 40D profile, comparing embedded raw file JPEGs with the Camera Raw preview display with a variety of images - it was tedious but effective.
    Best of luck.

  • Adobe Camera RAW 6.7 Windows 7 Crashing etc...

    Good Afternoon,
We are using Adobe Camera RAW 6.7 on Windows 7 32bit devices. We have had reports that it seems to be unstable and crashes or that they loose the view window and have to restart it to get it back.
There also seems to be no way of viewing RAW files prior to opening them in the RAW plugin, making the process a bit hit and miss.  They should be able to open the files containing the RAW files, in the Bridge and preview before editing them in Photoshop. A temporary but not really usable workarround is that they open them through Photoshop, which gives you a postage stamp size preview, which is not really very usefull.
Has anyone come accross this before in this version of RAW and discovered a fix for it?
    Any advice is much appreciated.
    Regards
    Jo

    Hi Eric,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, the two camera types are:
    Cannon PowerShot G1X
    Cannon 5D Mark 3
The user has advised this version of Camera Raw and the same camera models were used on XP it is just since the upgrade to Win 7 - is there any known compatibility issues with this version of RAW with Win7?
    Thanks

  • Adobe Camera Raw and Aperture

Ok.. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because if what I am saying is actually true, then Aperture has some seriously frustrating issues.
I use Aperture 3 to organize my photos and to do minor corrections, but the majority of my photo editing takes place in Photoshop CS5. I shoot in Raw so I expect to be able to use Adobe's wonderful Camera Raw plugin before opening a photo in Photoshop.
Aperture gives you the ability to edit a photo in Photoshop and have the edited photo go back into Aperture. Thats a great feature. Unfortunately, it seems that if I try to send a raw photo from aperture to photoshop, it will not open in the Adobe Camera Raw plug in. It simply opens in photoshop. If I just drag the thumbnail from aperture into photoshop, it will open the camera raw dialogue and everythings great.. but if I do it that way, it will not update in aperture once I am done editing.
It would be totally fine if I could just save the photoshop file and reimport it into aperture, but when I do that, it just shows up as a blank white photo, instead of the actual photo.
So long story short there is no way to use Aperture AND adobe camera raw. I don't want to use Bridge.
or is there???? Please give me a solution here or I want my money back.
Or is there a way to reopen the camera raw function in photoshop, once the photo is already opened?
    Thanks for your help!

I understand your concern, as I wondered the same thing. You might want to read http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11666552&#11666552
regarding a possible workflow for your situation (altho' they are using CS3, not CS5).
I use CS4 but want to move to CS5 to get the additional features of ACR (excellent noise reduction, lens-specific aberration controls, etc.) Thus, my interest in using ACR vs AP3 for some of my images.
I know now that AP3 is doing RAW processing at the moment of import, and that 'file' is no longer able to be processed by ACR via AP3. I was wondering about your trick of dragging the thumbnail to Photoshop and having it open in ACR. I cannot duplicate this, and I've tried different methods. If I could do this, that would be half the battle. (Can you enlighten me?) I will also take a look at Catapult.
I know of no way to open ACR while an image is open in Photoshop (APS). The plugin seems to kick in only when you open it from Bridge or the Finder.
Regarding the blank white photo, I'm assuming it is a PSD with no thumbnail. I have seen this when I import 'old' PSD's into AP3. I fixed this by going into the Preferences in APS, under File Handling/File Compatibility make sure you set 'Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility' to 'Always'. Then, you must open the blank white photo files and Save As... the same file name to overwrite the blank one. You should then see the thumbnail. (Also in APS Preferences, set File Saving Options, Image Preview to 'Always Save').
Granted, not having the option of easily using ACR is a tough pill to swallow for those of us who are in the Bridge/APS camp. I will readily forgo the 'pleasures' of using Bridge for AP3. I will NEVER give up APS since I need layers and graphic/text capabilities it offers. So a smooth interaction between AP3 and APS is a must for me. However, AP3 offers so much more than Lightroom, that I won't look back, now that I've made the switch. Good luck!
