Adobe Captivate 4 Simulation Project

I've been asked to use Adobe Captivate 4 to create a simulation of company software.
I understand how to use the simulation capabilities of Captivate, but this project can easily get extremely large.
I can picture hundreds of slides for one of the many processes.
Since we always try to keep our projects to 60 slides or less, I am not sure Captivate is the best choice.
Has anyone had experience with creating simulation projects with Captivate 4.
If so, are we truely limited to a given number of slides, etc?
Should I be exploring other software to create this project?
Thank you,
David Gambal

David,
Cp4 did seem to have some limits when it came to the number of slides it could handle, but I believe the actual number was well over 100.  Maybe someone else can chime in with their personal experiences, but I've used it to create simulation project with more than 100 slides without issue.  However if you were going for 200-400 slides then you might be in dicey territory.
If you were going to have to purchase another tool to do this anyway, why not just consider upgrading to Captivate 5.5?  I don't know of any other software simulation tool that does it better than Captivate.

Adobe Captivate 7 Project How to make Rollover cations, audio, and video work in HTML format?

Honestly, I don't even know why this is an option. The conversion to Flash is completely unusable.
I have exported some things to Flash, and since I program in Flash all the time I was able to manipulate to work to some degree. Most text captions are built with multiple elements and completely fall apart.
Sorry, I can't be of more help.

  • Adobe Captivate 8 projects published to HTML 5 shows major loading problems and stops

Adobe Captivate 8 projects published to HTML 5 cause major loading problems in most browsers(IE 11, Chrome v. 35.0, Firefox v. 31). Loading… (screen)
The view stops after a while and only the Loading… (icon) can be seen on the page.
Is this a known problem with Captivate projects published to html5 and is there a way to fix it? What is wrong?
Test the html5 version of this project at: http://kurs.dokker.no/captivate/
and see for yourself what happends.

I changed the Preferences/Project/Start and End  Preloader % to 25 and published the projects again. The course: http://kurs.dokker.no/captivate/elev/
stopped like before on one of the first slides, loading… screen like before in IE11.
In Chrome v. 37.0 the course worked badly, would not run, sound missing and buttons not working.
In Firefox 31.0 the course worked to a degree even if the program was advising to use another browser for this content.
In Opera 23.0 sound was missing and else working as bad as IE.
All this testes is done on a PC using Windows 8 connected på internet via ethernet, download speed: 66.57.
I would like to use the HTML5-format since it has a cleaner view than swf-files that appear to be jagged, but there is a lot missing before Adobe Captivates html5 publish is where it needs to be. Her are the complete html5 course and here are the swf based course for comparison.

  • What is Adobe Captivate Project [Compatible Mode] vs Adobe Captivate 5 Project?

I have both types of files.
Does a file get the compatible moniker if you've brought it in from Captivate 4? Or even if you copy and paste some assets in from Captivate 4 projects (i.e. buttons, quiz screens, etc)
What does it affect? How can I get rid of this moniker?
    Thanks.

I asked an experienced Adobe trainer and he said the [Compatible Mode] does not really affect anything.
We were having issues b/c even though Captivate 5 says it can be published for Flash 9, what they really mean to say is that Captivate 5 can be published to Flash 9.0.28 and above.
We had Flashplayer 9.0.16 so nothing would play. I thought it might have something to do with the files being [Compatible Mode], but that was not the issue.
We are upgrading now to Flashplayer 10.

  • Autoplay: Adobe Captivate 6 Project

Hi we created a project for a client and published a .swf. They came back saying they have a problem with the course not starting automatically.
" We have re-published the latest version and are still running into the same issue.  The course does not automatically start.  To begin the course, users will need to click on the first slide in the menu on the right. The first slide doesn’t appear so that we can include text to provide instruction. The users’ expectation is that the course will auto start. We have tried all we can on our end and seeing we are not the authors and do not have a way to affect settings, we are limited and can no longer troubleshoot.
We are having trouble viewing the course.  It does not automatically start playing once it is loaded.  It only works the next button or a slide in the outline is clicked; it does not automatically advance.  We have uploaded the presentation several times and have tried a variety of work arounds but nothing works. "
We have checked the autoplay options under Edit>Preferences.  Its fine and checked. At our end also .swf plays automatically.
    Any help??

The autostart problem was fixed (for non-iOS) by adding this code to index.html (after 'Publish', before uploading)
    script type="text/javascript"
    $(document).ready(function() {
    var isiPad = navigator.userAgent.match(/iPad/i) != null;
    if(isiPad){
    // do nothing
    }else{
    cp.movie.play()
Thanks to nateB in the following thread:

My project will now properly autostart in HTML5 running in Chrome on desktops.

  • Adobe Captivate Cached Projects

I've never done anything with this file and wondered what would happen if I deleted its contents?

    Hi Susan,
Have a look at this thread in the new forum, where a similar question popped up:
    http://captivate.adobe.com/captivate/topics/adobe_captivate_cached_projects_folder
You can safely delete the contents, but I recommend to use the AIR application (link is in the thread, provided by Vish) where you can select which caches can be deleted. For recent files I will mostly keep the cache, because it can be a saver if even the backup (hope you activated the backup functionality) gets corrupted. Moreover, as Vish points out, project will start quicker if cache is there.

  • Print Adobe Captivate 8 project - error or grey block

    Hi,
Im attempting to "print" a project only to return a failed message.  When I am successful the Word doc returns grey blocks rather than content.  Any help appreciated
Failing all that, is there a widget or other aid as a work around.
    - Nic

    Hi there,
From the shared screen, I can see that the 'Slide notes' option is selected for print. Is it printing the slide notes correctly when the print works? The grey box is nothing but the slide, if you select 'Include Objects and question slide options' you can see that the slide getting exported as an image as part of the print.
    Thanks,

  • Jam issue when saving adobe captivate 3 project

    Hi
ehen i press the record button on the captivae the progress
bar goes until de middle and stop there without moving ....
im trying to do this on a japanease windows xp with the
japanese version of the captivate 3 ...
we retry to do another captivate same issue ... we have
    enough free space ... etc...
    what could be the cause
    Thanks

Hi Vikram, I have done a number of samples, and it keeps happening.  It seems any slide with motion on it gets the grey lines.  When I'm typing, the lines are vertical.  If I'm scrolling, the lines appear horizontal.
In fact, I've had it happen numerous times over the years I've used captivate (since version 5).
I confirmed I  have version 7.0.0.118.  I checked for updates and see there is one, but I have to wait for my company's admin to run the update.  I have a feeling these lines will still be there though, as I've seen them in past versions as well.
I will certainly try the upgrade though!  I'm so desperate I will do anything!  These have been driving me crazy for two years now

  • Change default My Adobe Captivate Projects in v4?

I recently had Cap 5 installed, only to learn that it doesn't use AS2 at all...
    So downgraded to 4.
Now, the program works fine as long as I'm connected to my work network, but as soon as I move the laptop to my home network Captivate won't start.
My IS guys and I are pretty sure the problem is that it's trying to access the project cache in My Projects, which is on a work-networked drive.
I found this link to tell you how to change the cache location in 5: http://www.cpguru.com/2010/07/20/adobe-captivate-5-project-cache/
But has anyone successfully relocated the My Adobe Projects folder out of My Documents using Captivate 4?
    Thanks for any help!!!

    Welcome to our community, Daniel
The best approach (until Adobe hears from enough folks to
change it) is to allow it to create the folder, then ignore it
exists and use your own preferred folder.

  • Raptivity using MFO in Adobe Captivate 4

Hello,   I have created a interactivity file with Raptivity that I would like to embed in my Adobe Captivate project.  Usually I publish with a SFO (I remember reading somewhere that it is better to publish interactivities for Adobe with SFO)  but this time I was unable to publish with SFO so the help team at Raptivity told me to publish with a MFO - which works). So my question is - does anyone know how I can embed a MFO file in an Adobe Captivate 4 project?  Thanks for any info you might have.   Sandra

    Hi there
Perhaps if we had a clue what MFO and SFO are we might be able to offer help?
MFO = Multiple Flying Objects? Many Faces Organizationally? My Friend Oscar?
SFO = Airline code for San Francisco? Sugar Fried Oysters?

  • Adobe Captivate 5 not saving

Today when trying to save my Captivate file I am getting the following error and it is topping at 50% complete....
"Failed to add file to zip 2 compressed_data/data-69329916406.cpd . Unknown exception. The save file might get corrupted. You should try creating the zip again."
I have no idea what this means or what the fix is. Has anyone experienced this.
    Windows Vista 64 bit.
    Thanks for your help.

This error is telling you that Captivate cannot complete the save because it can't successfully zip one of the component files of your project.
A CPTX file is actually a zip file. If you go to your My Documents > Adobe Captivate Cached Projects folder and open any of the folders there, dig down inside the db folder and you'll find another folder called compressed_data inside which there are a number of cpd files.  These are all the components of your Captivate project. One of these components is causing the issue.
First try clearing your cache under Preferences > Global Settings > Clear Cache and try saving again.
If this still doesn't fix the issue, you're going to have to start deleting stuff out of your project to locate the offending item.  The usual suspects are any Flash animations, text animations, videos, captures of typing text.
Try saving your project as another file name and then deleting slides until you can successfully save.  Something in what you deleted will be causing the issue.

  • Opening Captivate 4 project in 5 adds to slide notes, read by TTS

I have a project that was started in Captivate 4, and when I open it in Captivate 5, it does the conversion and introduces
in the slide notes which the TTS speech egnine reads.
First, any ideas on why this would be happening, how to prevent it?
Second, is there a way to do a seach and replace within the slide notes? The regular Find and Replace dialog doesn't show a Search In option for notes.

    all,
I actually found the answer to my own question, in a way.
One of my projects apparently was corrupt an it was causing the issue with the disappearing notes. However, after rebooting my computer, clearing the Adobe Captivate Cached Projects, I opened a different project in Adobe Captivate 5, and all the notes were in place. After a while, I figured that as long as I don't open the corrupt file, my notes remain in place. I had to recreate the corrupt file though and save it with a different name.
I also noticed that the files are more likely to get corrupted if they are long (over 70-80 slides long) or if they have a lot of animations (really a lot).
As for the people using Captivate 3.... You may be used to Captivate 3 and it may be hard to switch software, but Captivate 5 is a lot more powerful and has a lot less issues than Captivate 3 ever did. I would reconsider, if I were you...
Sometimes, simply republishing a project helps...
If the "stop" button is a problem, I'd copy all the slides (in the source file) to a fresh new project, except for the one with the stop button; and then I would try to recreate the button that causes the issue, save and republish the new project.

  • Adobe Captivate 6 Missing Audio Folder

I recorded audio to my Adobe Captivate 6 project, slide by slide.
I can see the audio on the bottom of the Timeline.
When I right click on the audio, it shows on the upper screen of the Library tab on the right side of my screen, but I do not see an Audio folder on the lower part of the Library screen like I usually do.
How do I see the Audio folder again?
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Dave

I cleared the cache via Preferences, but no change.
I ran the batch file to refresh the Preferences folder, but no change.
This is only happening for one of my projects others open up fine and display the Audio file.
    Thoughts?
