Adobe Captivate 5.5 Simulation Slide Issue

Hello everyone,
Recently we recorded 7 separate simulations in Captivate 5.5.
We created a new Captivate 5.5 project and interjected these simulations throughout.
When playing them back, the first simulation does not play the first slide of its series.
The audio is correct, but nothing is showing on the slide.
I've been through many iterations of solutions and sometimes it will show the next slide, but still have the audio from the current.
Please provide any helpful feedback to overcome this issue.
Thank you

How did you 'interject', by copy/pasting those slides in the main project?

• Adobe Captivate 5.5 project - slides not playing through automatically

Hello,
This is my TOC on an Adobe Captivate 5.5 project I am working on. Slide 1 transitions to 2 no problem. However during Slide 2 I notice the time counter stops and then you have to click on to Slide 3 manually to play it ( it does not just play through). This happens again from 3-4 etc. I want the recording to play through and the viewer can decide to stop/resume/move to different chapters...
Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum,
Probably you have an interactive object with a pause on that second slide. That is not visible on a TOC, please post a screenshot of the timeline of Slide 2. How did you create the file?

• Adobe Captivate 5.0 Frame/Slide Limit

Ok, so i read awhile back (on this forum I think) that there is a frame/slide limit in captivate. if you pass the limit than your project starts acting a little crazy (we think we have seen some of this crazyness).
My question is...Is there a limit? if so what is it? I know it is inheriant in Flash to have a frame limit (which we passed over and over again) but we have kept our slides under the 60 slide count that i thought it was.
Any answer to this question would be a REALLY big help to me and my team.

Hi there
Captivate 4 and earlier had an unstated "best practice" limit of 50-65 slides. We found that to be the "sweet spot" or the spot before you reached the danger zone and your project began acting crazy. But with Captivate 5 being re-architected and all, the engineers tell us you should be able to get away with as many as 400 to 500 slides without issue.
Personally, I believe there has to be some limit we will later discover. But we just don't know what it is yet.

• Adobe Captivate 5 import caption style issue

Hi dear all,
I use captivate 5, and so is my college. We try to make a base template to use and distribute to all that will work with us.
There are issues with setting standards in Captivate 5
Problem no 1
One issue is that all changes made to caption styles are gone after you close and open your project again.
a) Edit
b) Object Style manager
c) Change styles on e.g. default
d) Press button "Apply"
e) when done press button "OK"
d) Save and close
f) Open
d) Enter Object Style manager = all styles are back to factory settings.
Respons to predicted questions:
Yes we tried both opening Captivate 5 as an administrator and as a normal user.
Yes my account on the computer is the admin account
My college got the "Project-all-styles.cps" file I exported by choosing "all styles of all objects" and pressing export
This is done under Object Style Manager.
Problem no 2
My college successfully imports the file "Project-all-styles.cps", by choosing the import function under the Object Style Manager
This results in one [Default Caption Style] that still is with factory settings and a new [Default Caption Style]_1 with my preferences are made.
Problem no 3
The [Default Caption Style] can not be deleted, i want to remove the one called [Default Caption Style] and change name on [Default Caption Style]_1
I want to remove _1
Solution 1
Find a way in Captivate 5 to unlock the "change default lock" that seems to be there
Solution 2
Enter the file that contains the default styles and change manually by typing by hand. I could not find th file for that. It does not seem to be an *.ini file containing that information.
I hope for good answers on these question.
Best Regards // Daniel Perez

Just make it easy
1. Use an understandable language like when defining styles
When opening a *.cps document it looks like this
And that is not good.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
$   < C a p t i v a t e S t y l e s / > •     ‰   ÷   Š     ‹        “   Œ                   D   ~   ÷   “          “   Ž       “          “          “   e   U   f      j   m       n       k   g   l   h       i   6   [ D e f a u l t   R e v i e w   A r e a   S t y l e ] k   m       n       k   g       h       i   ~   k   g       h       i   ÿÿÿÿk   g       h       i   ÿÿÿÿk   m       n       k   g   Š   h       i   ^   k   m       n       k   m       n       k   m       n       k   g       h       i     k   g       h       i     k   g   ÿ   h       i     k   g   ï   h       i     k   m       n       k   m       n       k   m       n       k   g   /   h       i       k   g   ¶   h       i       k   g   ·   h       i       k   m
n k m n k l ’ “ • ‰ ‘' Š ‹ } “ Œ D | ‘' “ 7 “ Ž 7 “ “ • ‰ ë Š ‹ 7 “ Œ
2. Let the user choose within three options, and be able to change choice later.
a. Embed the styles in the project
b. Absolute-link to a folder, network folder or URL (with the URL it is easier to collaborate between individuals and also change styles centrally if needed)
c. Relative-link to a file. (E.g. one homemade folder called styles that always are at the same level as the folder with the projects)
This makes it easier to move entire project to other computers.
3. Have a button that says "default" then the issue of overwriting default is not an issue anymore.
4. Do the same three steps with question pools, motions, and all other features that could be lifted out in their own files. (E.g. skin editor)
I think that it would make this tool a really really really tough competitor to beat.
Just to sell it in a bit more, if e.g. the question pools would be an easy understandable XML then it would be no match to export questions from old systems/PDF's or read in questions in paper form with an OCR and transform them to useful XML's
Best Regards and very hopeful for the future to come

I'm using Captivate 6 to create a template. I made a content master slide with a specific order.
But when i insert this content master slide, the object order changes.
Is this normal? And is there a (simple) way to fix this?
Thanks in advance

• Adobe Captivate course import to LMS issue

Hi,
Want to know the which LMS (SCORM) does captivate is compatible with.
My LMS is OpenElms and supports SCORM 2004 and when I publish course and import to OpenElms, it does import., But when I use it a dialog box appears saying that cannot find Xpath.... bla bla
Want to know if it is compatible with Open Elms ?

Look here for the official list:

Don't forget that this list relates to the latest version of Captivate 6x, not earlier ones.

• Adobe Captivate 6 not able to add Slide Notes

Having an issue with Adobe Captivate 6 with adding Slide Notes.
I can add them via Window>Slide Notes, but we cannot add them via clicking on the Properties tab of a slide then clicking on "Add Audio..." then clicking on the bottom "Captions & Slide Notes...". It will not let us add any Slide notes at this point.
Please advise, as teammates are sure they used this second version in the past successfully.
Thank you.........

Thank you for the reply.
The notes are just notes to the developer, so they don't have to sync with the audio.
Nonetheless, what do you mean by "Make sure your audio file is selected..."?
I went into my TIMELINE and clicked on the audio which opened the "Slide Audio" screen, then clicked on "Captions & Slide Notes..." and the Slide notes/Captions tabs show, but I cannot type anything into either of these areas......
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks again

• Adobe Captivate 4 Simulation Project

I've been asked to use Adobe Captivate 4 to create a simulation of company software.
I understand how to use the simulation capabilities of Captivate, but this project can easily get extremely large.
I can picture hundreds of slides for one of the many processes.
Since we always try to keep our projects to 60 slides or less, I am not sure Captivate is the best choice.
Has anyone had experience with creating simulation projects with Captivate 4.
If so, are we truely limited to a given number of slides, etc?
Should I be exploring other software to create this project?
Thank you,
David Gambal
TMG Health

David,
Cp4 did seem to have some limits when it came to the number of slides it could handle, but I believe the actual number was well over 100. Maybe someone else can chime in with their personal experiences, but I've used it to create simulation project with more than 100 slides without issue. However if you were going for 200-400 slides then you might be in dicey territory.
If you were going to have to purchase another tool to do this anyway, why not just consider upgrading to Captivate 5.5? I don't know of any other software simulation tool that does it better than Captivate.

• Adobe Captivate and DPS/InDesign - Simulations

Hi, we're working on an elearning/ebook product into which we want to include some practice simulations. (The ebooks are for training on specific software.)
I've successfully created the type of simulations we'd want to build (just a simple one for a test for now) where I record a short "training" in Captivate where it's recording mouse clicks with the popups to warn you if you click in the wrong place.
I want to include this simulation in InDesign for a DPS publication.
I have tried using the Wallaby beta application from the Labs to produce my FLA as HTML5. However, I get a few errors like this:
Unsupported feature: Dynamic Masks are not supported
Context stack:
Mask contains multiple framesets: FrameSet[0]: frames[0,0]
Layer[0]: Bounding Box
TimeLine[0]: Slide_7
Slide_7
Slides (Adobe Captivate)
Symbol: Adobe Captivate Objects
And when I insert the HTML5 produced into InDesign, and run the Preview in Content Viewer, it runs automatically through the screen captures, with no user click input and without the popup tips or warnings I had in Captivate.
Am I doing it wrong, or is this not yet possible in DPS? Is there another way to do it if this way doesn't work?
(PS I literally started learning Captivate this afternoon, please go easy on me!)

Hi there
While you are using Captivate, I'm going to have to say you are really asking in the wrong place. Certainly the question doesn't seem related to Captivate Quizzing features or working with a Learning Management System, so for starters you are in the wrong forum category. But that aside, I do hope you realize that the HTML 5 converter is BETA software. Being that as it is, I'm not sure you are allowed to actually use anything produced by it in a distributable product. Not to mention that because it's in BETA, that could also account for some of the issues you are facing. So from that standpoint, if there is a feedback or beta forum for the HTML 5 converter, you may want to ask there.
Otherwise, this would seem to fall squarely into the InDesign realm. You might try re-posting in the InDesign forums.
Best of luck to you in sorting it... Rick

• Adobe Captivate 5 Simulation package giving an error.

Hi,
We are getting "Adobe® Captivate® has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." at the enf of recording in simulation feature. Strange part is we are getting this message after we create MSI through Adobe customisation tool.

Hi there,
Can you try this and tell us whether it resolved the issue:
1. Go to preferences dialog at Recording: FMR
2. In the Working Folder, set 'C:\Test' - basically set the temp folder in your root directory.

• Adobe Captivate 5- Color Issues (excel 2007)

Please help me!
I am using Adobe Captivate 5 and am recording 2007 excel. When I have completed the movements, the images and background appear to be fine.
As soon as I preview or publish the colours of the cells and objects (e.g. highlight box) get mixed up:
Either the colors start moving into different areas, or dissapear or randomly move as the screen moves (This image was taken when the screen wasn't moving). Is this a software bug? Anyone had the same issue? Any way to resolve this?
I appreciate the help!

Hello,
Could you check the video quality of the slides? You find this in the Properties panel of the slide, region General. Perhaps it is set to 'Low, 8-bit. Try to change to one of the other settings. On the Captivate blog you'll find a great explanation about this Video Quality. Have a look at:

• Adobe Captivate freezes- Doesn't show Slide Images

I'm getting a frequently occuring error where Adobe Captivate freezes and no longer shows the captured animations of the slides, only the mouse movements. Then if I try to save, it looks like it is saving, but does nothing. Then if I wait a bit longer, the entire application locks up, and I can't do anything. This is not an issue with the file being too big, because I only have about 25 slides, and the file is only about 50MB large. Also, I have 8GB of RAM, of which only 4GB is being used. What could be causing this issue?

Hi there
What version of Captivate are you using? Where exactly are you attempting to save? Captivate projects don't like it when you save them and edit them while they are placed on a network drive. So if your project is on a network drive you should move it to your local C drive.

• Captivate Software Simulation Audio Issues

My Captive 8 software simulation slides have been having issues with the audio right after recording. Before I even publish anything, my audio will end up being 2-3 slides ahead of where it should be on the slides. As you may know, when recording a software simulation, captivate automatically generates the slides with each mouse click and should automatically insert the correct audio on each slide. This is not happening for me, and it is very time consuming to fix. I either have to re-record and hope it doesn’t happen again or do a lot of external audio editing.
It’s possible there may not be a resolution and it may be a recognized (or unrecognized) bug in Captivate. Just need to know whatever the case may be.
My initial gut reaction is to blame this on the latest Captivate 8 update… as I don’t remember experiencing this issue before. But then again, I also upgraded my mac to OS X and that may be a factor as well.
I've had people suggest to add a blank ending to the audio to restart the audio timer on the next slide, as well as add a transparent highlight box at the end of the slide, but these are ways to fix it when the file is published. Since my issue is happening before publishing, I was hoping someone on this forum may have an answer.

PIP is available in Presenter Video Creator, not in the normal Presenter plug-in. It is not available in Captivate normal projects with extension cptx. You can insert a PIP in the TOC, but have to record it separately.
In Captivate HD Video Demo, extension cpvc (which is also a video creator with a dedicated video editor) you can insert a PIP in the editor. But again you have to create it separately.
The choice is up to you: an easy way to have both recordings together, with very limited editing possibilites in Presenter. Or the Captivate way, more work, better editor.
Afraid to repeat again: we are only talking about pure video now. In the normal Captivate files, that are based on slides, you can insert a video (like a PIP) and distribute it over slides, adapting the slide markers is available in the Video menu. No webcam recording for the moment in Captivate.

• Quiz slide issues in Captivate 4

I am having functionality issues with quiz slides in Captivate 4. When taking the quiz, slides will randomly get stuck/grey out and the user has to click the back button and then go forward and the slide will then function correctly. This is not acceptable to the client, for obvious reasons. I have tried re-building the quiz slides (several times) and have also copied the entire project into a clean Captivate file. Nothing seems to make a difference and it is still completely random. I will preview the quiz over and over and sometimes it will work perfectly and then the next time it'll get stuck. This has only started occuring since I upgraded to Cp4. I have had to resort to not using Quiz slides at all and re-creating them with click boxes, but then I miss out on some of the needed functionality that the quiz slides provide (with feedback). I am pulling my hair out! Anyone else having trouble with this?

Hello all
I have been having the same issue and have spent a bunch of time with Adobe so this is what they sent me and so far my quizzes have been working and I have had no reports of any quiz's freezing up fingers crossed.
This is the latest corospondence from Adobe I have recived.. hope it helps..
Mike

1.)Separate all of the different quiz type questions into separate pools
and pull random questions from each pool.
2.)Stop using the multiple choice slides with single correct answer only
as it defeats the usability of the quiz module in Captivate
3.)Verify that video card drivers are compatible with Windows XP.
If you still think that it is the problem with Adobe Captivate then
please perform the below mentioned steps;-
1.) Recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files.
Recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files to eliminate problems
that a damaged preferences file might cause.
To recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files:
1. Quit Adobe Captivate.
2. In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Documents and
Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Adobe and move the "Adobe
Captivate" folder to another location (for example, the Desktop).
3. Start Adobe Captivate. Adobe Captivate creates new preferences
files.
