Adobe Captivate 6 swf browser compatibility

Hi i wanted to know the browser compatibility when i publish a swf file using Adobe Captivate 6.  Does it support all browsers? Even old versions of Internet Explorer?

Hi, RodWard.
I found this thread because I, too, am concerned with browser compatibility. I verified that my browsers are all running a supported version of Flash, but I'm still having issues reporting my results to my internal web server. I've researched the issue to find it has nothing to do with my web server or PHP compatibility, but rather some issue with the SWF file. The internal server reporting works when I view the presentation in IE 9, but not when I view it in Chrome 24 or IE 8. Any ideas?
Thanks.

  • Can't embed a Captivate video (swf) into Power Point 2007

I am trying to embed an Adobe Captivate video (swf) into power Point 2007. I very carefully followed all the steps outlined from a search I did on the web and it is not working.
These are the steps I followed:
    1. Create a simulation using Adobe Captivate and publish it as a SWF file.
    2. Open the PowerPoint presentation and insert a blank slide for adding simulation.
    3. We need to work with the Developer tab now. If you can't see it in the ribbon, follow these steps to make it visible.
    (steps to get developer)
4.On the developer tab, in the Controls group, click More Controls
    5. In the list of controls, click Shockwave Flash Object and click OK.
    6. Drag diagonally to create a box in which the simulation would appear. Don't worry about sizing it accurately; you can adjust it later as well.
    7. Right click the Shockwave Flash Object, and then click Properties.
    8. On the Alphbetic tab, click the Movie property. In the value columnm type the full drive path, including the file name.
    9. Set the Playing property to true, Loop to false and Embed Movie to true.
    10. Close the Properties dialog and test the movie.
The simulation will now play in your PowerPoint presentation.
Note: If during the slideshow,t he simulation doesn't play automatically, right-click and select Play.
I followed these steps, and it is just not working. I go to play my power point presentation and set it to play from the beginning, and when it gets to the slide with the swf file, I just get a faded out still picture of the video, and it will not play.  If someone has had luck with embedding swf files from Captivate into Power Point, please let me know how you did it.   Thanks.

Thanks, I really appreciate the information. The only problem is that I have to keep it as a power point presentation.   I convert from ppt to a video, so I need to keep it as power point.
I found these steps on the internet and followed them exactly, and went through the steps 3 times, to make sure I wasn't leaving anything out, and it just didn't work. I have a tech guy who's supposed to call me today regarding this issue, and hopefully he'll be able to go through it with me step by step to try and work it out.
Ultimately, these are going to be training videos that are going to be set up on a website, so they ultimately have to be saved as videos.
I'm keep trying to figure it out though.
    Thanks.

  • Adobe Captivate CC - Device Compatibility

    Hello,
We are currently working on a virtual tour for the National Flight Academy. You can view the virtual tour at this link...http://www.nationalflightacademy.com/virtualtour/
We built the tour with Adobe Captivate CC and published with both HTML5 and SWF checked.
We are noticing that the virtual tour doesn't work as well as it should on Mobile Devices i.e. Iphones, Androids...as well as the firefox browser.
Are these issues on our end and can be fixed, or are they just known problems on said platforms?
Are there other issues that others have came across as well, on other devices and platforms?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    Rick,
    You're right!
    I apologize, very busy here.
Basically, when you are on your mobile device and go to the site and experience the virtual tour it opens it up in a new window and only shows the video. No interface. Once the video is finished you exit out of the video window that pops up and you are prompt to choose your path. Once you click which way you want to go, another video window pops up and the interface is gone again. You are not able to view the interface and click on the 360 Degree tour or the get more info button while the video is playing. You have to wait till the end of the video.
However, when you wait till the video is over and click on either the 360 tour or the get info button, it will automatically refresh the tour and you have to start form the beginning.
FireFox won't let me even play the video, on Mac or PC.
    It gives me an error.....
    Adobe Captivate
This browser does not support some of the content in the file you are trying to view. Use one of the following browsers:
    Internet Explorer 9 or later
    Safari 5.1 or later
    Google Chrome 17 or later
    Hope this helps!

  • Are Adobe Captivate swf files not compatible with IE8 or IE9 when inserted into RoboHelp projects?

    Hi,
I've published Adobe Captivate swf files and then inserted them into my RoboHelp project. I then synced my RoboHelp project with our website and the videos within online help are not functioning in IE8 or IE9. They are only working in IE11.
    Thanks,

    Hi there
When a SWF plays in IE, it uses the Flash Player ActiveX control. I'm not 100% sure that different versions of IE would share the install. So if you have one version of IE on your machine, perhaps it either doesn't even have the control added in or it's the wrong version.
One thing I would check in the browsers where the content seems to be missing is to right-click the blank area and see if you coax a Flash pop similar to below:
    Then note the version number.
You may find that all that you (or others) need to do is ensure you have at least a specific version of the player/add-in installed.
    Cheers... Rick

    Hi
We are looking for a software which converts SWF to MP4, we found many software which does the job but issue is file size is not optimize.
We found Adobe captivate 6 which gives optimum quality with good output but thing is we do not have batch process in captivate 6. so we request you to create a plugin or give a best option which have batch render quality and optimize in file size,

Captivate is e-learning development software not a dedicated video convertor, you are better off trying something like Adobe Media Encoder or Super.

  • Is adobe captivate 7 compatable with OS X Yosemite?

I have a new Adobe Captivate 7 and after I installed it, the icon will bounce 3 or 4 times and then close. it will not run at all. I have a Macbook pro retina. Is adobe captivate compatable with OS X Yosemite?

    HI Phillip,
Captivate 7 does work with Yosemite but it is not tested with Restina Display. Can you try to install Captivate 8 trial version and see if you are getting the same issue?

  • Adobe Captivate LMS Compatibility Guide - Anyone Interested??

Why is it so hard to find information about Captivate LMS Compatibility?
I'll admit to being somewhat frustrated with the lack of easily procurable information about how to make Adobe Captivate content compatible with the plethora of LMS products now flooding the marketplace.  (There are over 100.) I had hoped for years that Adobe would put up a site (or at least a page or two) that listed LMSs and laid out the correct settings in Captivate to use for each one.  Sadly this hasn't happened.  And the search function on this forum seems to be broken, which makes it more than hard to find information about a given named LMS.
So in desperation I've decided to try and provide a venue for this type of information myself.  I'm going to reserve a section on my website at www.infosemantics.com.au for information specific to Adobe Captivate LMS Compatibility.  I'll be listing anyLMS products there for which I can procure information related to using Captivate.  Headings on each LMS page will overview the LMS functionality, compatibilty with SCORM or AICC standards, any known issues with compatibility with Captivate content, what Cp quiz settings other users have found work successfully, as well as any modifications to templates, or workarounds that have proven useful.
Naturally, I only have access to a small number of LMS products for testing. So I'm enlisting help from any LMS users on this forum to provide suggestions and information collaboratively.
Here's what I need from you:
Simply go to http://www.infosemantics.com.au/contact and leave a message stating the brand and version of LMS/s you use, and a contact email address where I can reach you for information on how you got your Captivate content to work with it.  I will add a new page to the LMS Guide covering every LMS for which people offer information and add the info under each heading.  Each LMS page will also allow comments so that other users can offer feedback and suggestions.  If the volume of response is to high for mere comments, I can add a forum for each LMS where users can exchange information on what worked for them.  User's interested in a given LMS can subscribe to that page so that they will be notified via RSS of any updates to information.
I intend to create test projects in Cp5 that have various combinations of Quiz Settings which (according to user feedback) SHOULD WORK on each LMS.  You'll be able to download these zipped SCORM or AICC packages to test on your own LMS as well as the Captivate project files (cp and cptx format) used to create them, so that you can see the settings used.  Hopefully this will help you to debug compatibility with your own LMS.
You can also leave a message on the contact form if you are trying to use a particular LMS but haven't had much success and would appreciate getting information about it.  I can't promise to find the answers, but someone else that chimes in might be able to do so once they know you're looking.
My sincere hope is that over time this resource will build into something that will save a lot of time and angst for every Captivate developer trying to work with an ever-growing number of LMS products. More and more clients have them.  But it's a minefield out there.
Anyone interested in participating in this attempt?

No, I'm not only concerned with Cp5's LMS compatibility.
I intend to put up information about all Captivate versions that anyone can supply information on.  Most likely this will be from about Cp3 onward.

  • Publishing SWF in Adobe Captivate 3 produces no output

    Hi,
Until recently I could merrily publish SWF, Adobe Connect Pro, Standalone (.exe) in Adobe Captivate 3. Now on some of my "presentations" when I try to publish as SWF no output is produced. Although I do get the progress bar, and the usual messages saying that SWF files are being compressed, etc., and although I do get the green check mark representing a successful publish,  the "View Output" box is greyed out. When I navigate to the location where the SWF should be there is simply nothing there. Publishing to STANDALONE, on the other hand, works perfectly fine.
As I say, I can still publish to SWF with many of my Captivate 3 presentations. But with the others I can only publish to STANDALONE where everything including the "View Output" box works fine. All my Captivate 3 work is based on a single template so I can't understand how this could be related to preferences but I'm willing to try any good recomendation.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I'm sure there are other forum posts about this out there but
I think this is how you do it.
In Captivate go to the Project menu and open the Skin Editor.
On the Borders tab you need to switch off borders.
I think this should give you one file when you output but you
will have to check whether the skin now covers part of your
    presentation.
If so you may need to resize your project height to include
the height of the playback control. Go to Project > Resize
    project.
    Hope this helps.

  • How load swf file (flash 8) with adobe captivate 3 without enter the HTML?

How load swf file (flash 8) with adobe captivate 3 without enter the HTML?

    Hi SaSQuaCh69247,
Issue 1 :- Select the SWF file in library, right click, and
    select update.
Issue 2 :- Actually it could be valid for Issue 1 also. It
seems like SWF file you are trying to import, does some action
like, importing another swf or connecting to server on the first
frame itself. Captivate will try to play the first frame of SWF
when you import them. Try creating a keyframe with the stop action
as the first frame in your SWF, and see if you still have the
    issue.
Issue 3 :- The approach I am mentioning over here is
generally the last approach which I will take in such scenerios,
but since you have already experimented a little, so try this.
    Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application
    Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate
    Rename captivate_v20.dat as captivate_v20_org.dat.
    Restart Captivate Application.
    thanks

  • Adobe Captivate (.swf)  to MOV? Looking for free conversion.

I have a client that has given me Adobe Captivate files... I downloaded the trial version and see that it will only output to .swf. I need to get these into QT to import to FCP. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

You really want to talk to the folks who hang out at the Adobe forums. But try veriontracker.com (which has become part of the CNET monster) and just search for SWF convertors or transcoders.
Some SWF files are easily read by QT because SWF is a wrapper, similar to MOV, and many codecs, including H.264, are recognized by SWF players.

  • SWF in IE has Project Created by Adobe Captivate 7

When someone attempts to play an swf in Internet Explorer a small box appears with " Project Created by Adobe Captivate 7" and the video won't play
Anyone know why this might occur?

I have seen this error if AS2 content (Flash animations containing AS2 actionscript) was imported into Captivate 7. Check that you don't have any AS2 content in your project and also check that you didn't select an AS2 based preloader by mistake (only relevant if you have earlier versions of Captivate installed).

  • Adobe Captivate 4 not detecting latest Flash Player

    Hi,
I just put together a new laptop, and insatlled all the normal programs/drivers - flash player, adobe reader, etc.
I installed Flash Player 10 from your website, and received the confirmation flash screen "Congratulations you now have the latest..."
I installed Adobe Captivate 4 - Trial Version from your website without any problems downloading.
This is not my first attempt at installing/un-installing/re-installing both Captivate 4 and Flash Player 10 on this computer - I'm on my fourth attempt at reinstalling both programs.
I am running Vista Ultimate x86.
This computer meets all system requirements by Adobe Captivate 4.
Is this a problem with Captivate, Flash Player, or (doubtful) my computer?
    Thanks!

    Lilybiri,
This is odd, I am certain that I read an addendum on the Flash 10 download page last week, it explained that the incompatibility problem was fixed.
That message is no longer present today.
Other than that, some security changes were also made to Flash 10 that may impact your work. See this link: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/fplayer10_security_changes_print.html#hea d32
To check your current version go here: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
I am using version 10.0.32.18. I have run many compatibility tests and haven't found problems with this version of Flash.
If version 10 is causing problems for you, uninstall by going here: http://kb.adobe.com/go/tn_14157
    Some better instructions I found:
    Uninstalling Adobe Flash player..
    0. Go to this page:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewCon ... d=tn_14157
and download the latest windows flash uninstaller. (uninstall_flash_player.exe).
    1. Close down all browsers.
    2. Go to control panel, and then to add/remove programs.
    3. Uninstall Adobe Flash ActiveX.
    4. Uninstall Adobe Flash Player.
    5. Close Add/Remove Programs and Control Panel.
    6. Open the Command box [Start/Run will bring up the command box] and change to the directory to where you
    downloaded the flash uninstaller.
    e.g: cd C:\Downloads\Software
    7. Type this in [command box]:
"uninstall_flash_player.exe /clean" (No quotes & notice the space between the .exe and /clean)
    and press enter.
    8. Click Yes.
    9. Click Close.
    10. Repeat steps 7-9 once. Close the Command window.
    11. Go to:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed
    and delete Flash directory.
    12. Go to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\Adobe
and delete the "Flash Player" directory.
    13. Go to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\Macromedia
and delete the "Flash Player" directory.
    14. Start MSIE and open this address:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
    15. Be sure to UNtick "Free Google Toolbar"
    and click Agree.
    16. Allow the ActiveX popup.
    17. Click Install.
    18. Close MSIE.
    19. Open either Firefox/SeaMonkey/Opera/etc and open this address:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
    20. Click Agree
    21. When the file finishes downloading close your browser.
    22. Navigate to where you saved the file and double click it:
    install_flash_player.exe
    23. Click Close.
    24. Open any browser and go to:
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/docum ... ger03.html
and drag the bar all the way to the right to Unlimited
    25. Close the browser.
    26. Flash should be working, if not, wait for the site to update to be compatible (or try using previous versions of flash player at your own risk).

  • Adobe Captivate 8 projects published to HTML 5 shows major loading problems and stops

Adobe Captivate 8 projects published to HTML 5 cause major loading problems in most browsers(IE 11, Chrome v. 35.0, Firefox v. 31). Loading… (screen)
The view stops after a while and only the Loading… (icon) can be seen on the page.
Is this a known problem with Captivate projects published to html5 and is there a way to fix it? What is wrong?
Test the html5 version of this project at: http://kurs.dokker.no/captivate/
and see for yourself what happends.

I changed the Preferences/Project/Start and End  Preloader % to 25 and published the projects again. The course: http://kurs.dokker.no/captivate/elev/
stopped like before on one of the first slides, loading… screen like before in IE11.
In Chrome v. 37.0 the course worked badly, would not run, sound missing and buttons not working.
In Firefox 31.0 the course worked to a degree even if the program was advising to use another browser for this content.
In Opera 23.0 sound was missing and else working as bad as IE.
All this testes is done on a PC using Windows 8 connected på internet via ethernet, download speed: 66.57.
I would like to use the HTML5-format since it has a cleaner view than swf-files that appear to be jagged, but there is a lot missing before Adobe Captivates html5 publish is where it needs to be. Her are the complete html5 course and here are the swf based course for comparison.

I think it would be really good if these programs were available to members of CC. It does seem strange that CC members have to pay for these 2 programs.
