Adobe Captivate 7: How to Customize Certificate Widget

I can only add (1) additional variable option in a certificate widget text fields. How can I add more variables on the certificate? I need these variables to print out on the certificate when the learner selects the print button. Is it possible to add a company logo onto the certificate that will print also.

Not all video files are created equal. Captivate has in the past shown a preference for certain encoding in FLVs and F4V video files. It's recommended that any video you want to use with Captivate be encoded via the Adobe Media Encoder app that comes with Captivate.
Even the fact that your FLV was encoded with some other Adobe app, does not guarantee it will work with Captivate. (Don't get me started on that.) So try re-encoding your FLV with AME and then see if that improves your chances of embedding the link.

I'm guessing you are wanting someone to provide a detailed step-by-step of how to customize the widget in Flash?
If so, that's a pretty tall order. Flash is a pretty complex application. I guess that's why Captivate is so popular.
If you aren't familiar with Flash, I might suggest you take a class on it to become familiar. Or possibly hire someone like Michael to make the changes for you.

Captivate 5.5 customize Certificate Widget on flash

hello all, I have a little problem with the certificate Widget, when I try to personalize it with logo and company colors, I do all this in flash and insert it into captivate 5.5 but when I put it to work it does not add the name of the course and student name, this widget is from the captivate gallery, that could be doing wrong? I appreciate your help thank you all

Here's a better example of the project and how it's breaking.
As you can see, I just have three slides, with a button to continue to the next slide, but functionality breaks over the whole project because the Certificate Widget is in the project. Also, notice that I don't have the rounded corners on my project.
Seriously, does anyone have any idea what could be causing this issue?

Photoshop brush does not represent correctly when recorded with Adobe Captivate 7 How do I Fix this?

Hello I have only just recently purchased adobe captivate 7.
I am currently recording some footage in Photoshop and when ever I change the photoshop's brush size it does not correctly record it in Captivate but rather a giant pixelated version of it. or the brush does not match the size of the brush it is painting.

below you can clearly see it is recording the brush size at the wrong size to what is been drawn. its kinda random in how it does it.

Using Adobe Captivate 6, how can I replicate the PPt text animations wherein I can float in timed?

Using Adobe Captivate version 6.0, I want to be able to do what I always could in PowerPoint - in a bulleted list, cause each bullet to float (or other animation) into place, establish a timing for each line.

To do this in Captivate, you need each bullet to be a separate text caption. You can then apply fly-in effects and time them to coincide with the voiceover. There's no way to make the bullets fly separately in if they are all in the same text caption.

Can you expound on what exactly is meant by "customizing the player"? Do you mean a customized playback control set? Customized Table of Contents? Customized Aggregator? Customized viewer when producing something like a stand alone app or file intended for YouTube?

Adobe Captivate 4 - How do I include the playbar in the movie, rather than below it?

As the title says, how can I have the playbar displayed inside the movie window rather than as a seperate entity below it?
We used Captivate 1 up until recently to make our training videos. We would use the playbar "PresenterSilver" and then insert text boxes into the slides as a sort of guide as to what section the user was currently viewing. We would also use this to show the author and the date. A static image was used as a background also (this was created in Fireworks to look the same as the PresenterSilver background).
This setup worked fine for all our movies. However when we upgraded to Captivate 4 the PresenterSilver skin is no longer there. The playbar is also no longer part of the movie but is below the window.
I was wondering if it possible to include the playbar the way it used to be. If not, then can someone suggest a work-around? I was looking at it earlier and I see that you can use image files as backgrounds around the player. This is not ideal as I think that the images remain static for the entire movie. And we could not have a set image (e.g. Part 1 for slides 1-3, Part 2 for 4-6 etc.) for different slides, it would have to be the same the entire way through. If I am mistaken please let me know.

Unfortunately Adobe changed the playing field with version 4. You are no longer able to have the playbar occupy part of the main movie.
Please report this as a bug to the development team. The link is in my sig.

Adobe Captivate 8 - How to Remember Project Custom Swatches

Is there a way to replace default swatches with custom swatches 'permanently', for example by embedding them in a template? I've created a template with my custom swatches but it doesn't seem to be a solution. Captivate loads the swatches panel with default swatches each time I create a new file or open an existing project.

I know, the whole color work flow in Captivate is bit mysterious, and most users don't bother about it. The swatches panel was almost not used in CP7. I ended up by creating my own swatches in the scratch area of a project if colors were important, and I believe consistency in colors is important, don't misunderstand me.
Now it has improved a little bit, but I'm still trying to figure out the best work flow. You are right, I should expect to be able to save my swatches panel either with a workspace, or within the Preferences, or if you want within the Object Style manager. But Captivate has not even a foreground/background color button, it used to have two color buttons in the vertical toolbox that they banned from the present version
With each new project I try to find out a better way to manage colors, but still didn't succeed. And you are very rare, there are almost never questions about color management. Glad I'm not alone anymore.
What I'm doing at this moment, is transfer 10 colors to a theme color palette from the swatches panel. Those 10 colors are also bit of a mystery. Some are used in the provided themes, some not. And the names don't correspond always with the objects they are used for (Subtitle is not used for subtitles, to give one example). But those theme colors, when applied to the theme, will result in changes of some object styles (not all...another question mark) and they are mostly available when a color dialog box pops up. I say mostly, they will for Fill, Stroke and Gradient colors, for some learning interactions but not for all. The 'tints' are based on the theme colors, color 4 is a theme color, color 5 is darker, the first three are lighter. That provides me in total 50 tints based on the theme colors.
A template is really a bridge too far, at least if you use that word as it is meant in Captivate for a cptl file, because I see the word template used for a lot of files, even for themes and almost never for a template.
Your theme color palette will be saved in the workspace, can be reused for any theme. And if you edit also the Object styles, those that are not yet adapting the to theme colors and the Skin you can save that theme as a custom theme and reuse it later for any project, of the same kind. Because themes for responsive projects can be used for normal projects but not the other way.
Sorry for that long answer, still not satisfied with it, just the result of my personal exploration. A blog post about that is not really worthwhile since almost nobody seems to care about colors. When consulting or repairing projects I do see more overridden styles than normal ones.

Adobe Captivate 8 - How to Assign Custom Shortcut Key

I want to switch between the Film Strip view and the Master Slide view quickly. To show/hide the Film Strip there is a default shortcut key CTRL+ALT+B. For the Master Slide there is none.
Is there a way to assign a custom shortcut key to toggle Master Slide view?

I wonder why the lack of support for custom shortcuts keys does NOT surprise me. In overall, shortcut keys are typical and always required in expert applications.
Anyway, thanks for the tip. I noticed that keeping a number of panels ON slows down the performance so toggling between them ad-hoc might mitigate users frustration.
Again...fruit for thought.

Where is certificate widget

I have used adobe captivate 7 previously and it had a nifty certificate widget, but when I installed adobe captivate 8, I noticed that the widget is not listed in the widget gallery.I searched for certificatewidget.swf and it can't be found. I don't have access to 7 anymore. Do I need to download something extra to get that widget back?

You need to download eLearning assets and install them separately. You may download the eLearning assets from the link mentioned below. You have to sign in with your Adobe Id when you click on the link.

Problems using Adobe Captivate 8

I have installed the trial version of Adobe Captivate 8 and when I open the program the following error appears:
"Invalid path for document_root [C:\\Users\M]: (No such file or directory). Make sure that path is either absolute, or it is relative to civetweb executable."
Then I press Ok and can work with Captivate, but when I try to preview the project, it doesn't seem ok, for example, the background becomes only a little square on the left top of the screen.
Note: I have windows 8.1.

Try creating a couple of special folders at the root level of your C drive that you can use for these Default Locations
Have one for the Publish folder at C:\_Captivate_Publish_Folder and another one for the Project Cache at C:\_Captivate_Cache_Folder (the underscore in front of the folder name just means it will be sorted to the top of all folders in your C drive and this will make it easier to find.
Once you have created the folders, click the Browse buttons beside the Publish At and Project Cache fields in Captivate Preferences and select these folders as the default locations.

Captivate 7: How to troubleshoot video not playing.

I've received MP4 files from a client and converted them to FLV. I created a blank project, added a Content-Center slide. Loaded an FLV video file. Previewed in Captivate no problem. Published and reviewed no problem. Load the SWF file to the company Intranet and the slide displays but the video object is not included. What am I doing wrong?

Don't assume anything. You need to CHECK where the video is located.
You also seem to be assuming that since you uploaded the SWF file that your video is somewhere inside the SWF and must have therefore arrived at the intended destination.
This is also incorrect because Captivate does not encapsulate videos INSIDE SWF files. All videos are externalized nowadays. So if you upload an SWF, that's all you've uploaded. No video.
Additionally, Captivate SWFs require the HTM and JavaScript files that Captivate also publishes in order for everything to work. If you do not upload all required files, your content will not play properly for end users.
I'm hoping by "company intranet" you mean an actual web server, not just a company LAN? And if you're uploading to a Dropbox account, you may also run into issues with playback unless your business partners download the entire set of required files to a folder on their PC, AND make sure that folder is set up as a trusted location in their Flash Global Security settings:

Strange workaround, but just checked it and it works (even for responsive project): you can drag the Signature, I dragged it as far out as possible (to the bottom) and when previewing the Certificate it was gone.
Do you need a widget? It is not that easy if you need it both for SWF and HTML output because I'm aware at this moment of only very few widgets available on the market. You can create a slide with all you need, using the quizzing system variables and a button with a JS to print?

How to integrate adobe flash widgets from Adobe captivate with Adobe Presenter?

We are a group of students who are creating a number of flash widgets that allows them to create e-learning activities. We are creating specific widgets in Flash for use in Captivate and then the results of the widgets in Adobe Presenter. The client noticed that widgets that work in Adobe Captivate don't always work in Adobe Presenter. Is there a way to make this function correctly?
Secondly, if it isn't possible to make that work correctly through the first method, is it possible to utilise Adobe Air to do the same or similar process. The client would prefer if we could integrate anything we use with an LMS and SCORM. But we believe it may not be possible to do this with Adobe Air.
Would someone be able to help us out with this?

Some of the functionalities of CP4 (I assume that you use this version?) only work in a CP-published SWF, p.e. using the right mouse click as a trigger. I have inserted several CP-SWF's into Adobe Presenter, while using some of the widgets provided with CP4 and did not have any problems with these (p.e. Flash button). But I do not know what kind of widgets you created. Do they function all right in CP4 itself?

Captivate Certificate Widget - Printing Problems.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's not a problem in Captivate, per say, but it's Captivate related.
First some vital facts:
OS: Mac OS X 10.6.4
Captivate 5
Flash: CS4
Flash Player: 10.1.53.64
Browser: Firefox
I have a customized Captivate Certificate Widget (AS3) from Captivate 4 that works perfectly. When one clicks the "Print Button", the print dialog box comes up and when one checks the print preview option, one sees the certificate ready to be sent to the printer.
Fantastic. Now I want to save this Flash file as a new file and I want to change a textbox on the certificate that is no connected to the ActionScript at all. When I publish this new file, the Print button no longer works. Can anyone explain this?
I have, in fact taken a look at the new Captivate 5 Certificate Widget. I published it out and it's print button doesn't work either! I took both my swfs into XP and opened them and they both worked fine in Firefox and IE.
After further examining both Flash files for the CP4 Certificate Widget and the CP5 Certificate Widget, I keep noticing that an error is traced to the output window when publishing the files. The error appears after pressing the Print button and then canceling the print. The error that I'm getting is:
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter child must be non-null.
at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/removeChild()
at CertificateWidget_fla::MainTimeline/ClickPrint()
I've managed to point the problem to line 207: this.removeChild(sheets);
Is this causing the problem?
If anyone could help, that would be great. I don't want to tell my client that the certificate that was working, now doesn't work for no apparent reason.

I use Cap 4 for testing. You put a name field in the first slide, then the certificate widget will fill in the name, date, and score. You get a print or e-mail field at the bottom of the certificate.
I used Internet sources to find out how to do some things, but the Adobe free online webinars taught me most of it.
