Adobe Captivate 7 needs legacy Java SE 6 runtime

I need assistance with Adobe Captivate 7; it now prompts me each time I try to open the app to install legacy Java SE 6 runtime and then closes.  The only changes that I've made to my 13" MBPr, was to upgrade to Yosemite and install the newest version of MS Outlook.  Thanks!

This issue was corrected after installing Java for OS X 2014-001 and then restarting my system - all is good.

  • Why do I need "legacy Java SE 6 runtime?"

I tried to open Photoshop CS 5.1 and was told I needed to download "legacy Java SE 6 runtime," whatever that is. I assume this is because I recently put Yosemite on my iMac. So where do I find this Java thingy, or would upgrading to the latest Photoshop solve the problem?

If that doesn't help, download an earlier version of Java. Java for OS X 2014-001 If the page does not display, go to your web browser's preferences (then security, then details) and delete the cookies for apple.com.

  • Illustrator CS6 now needs legacy Java SE 6 runtime?

Help. I tried to open my Illustrator CS6 today and got the following error message, "To open Adobe Illustrator CS6 you need to install the legacy Java SE runtime". The window then states, "Click More info...to visit the legacy Java SE 6 download website."  I do click on the More Info... button, but the webpage is blank. Please help.
    Thanks,

    Install it from

In the details it is mentioned that it is an outdated version of Java.
Is this a security risk that i need to live with to get CS5 to run with Yosemite?
Also i need to reject messages from Java in the future about updates, or not?
    thx for any input

  • When I try and open adobe illustrator I get a pop up message saying "To open "Adobe Illustrator CS6" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime."

When I try and open adobe illustrator I get a pop up message saying "To open “Adobe Illustrator CS6” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." it also says "Click “More Info…” to visit the legacy Java SE 6 download website." When i click more info it transfers me to an apple page which never loads, its just a blank page. I downloaded Java SE 6 like it says it needs but it did nothing. All of my other Adobe programs such as bridge, dreamweaver, lightroom, Photoshop, indesign, and flash all work except for illustrator. What can I do to fix this?

Go to Apple and look for the Java for OSX 2014-001 link. Download from there and install it.

and - check with Adobe - would strongly suspect you need to upgrade CS. Strongly consider Creative Cloud, access to the entire TypeKit alone is amazing.

This answer may be somewhat late, but just in case other have the same issues, I went to site listed below and it solved the problem.  No need to reinstall CS5 product.  I hope this works for you.

  • To open "Adobe Photoshop CS4" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.

I have updated my system to Yosemite and when I try to open Adobe CS$ i get this message. To open “Adobe Photoshop CS4” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.  I have followed the links and installed Java for OS X 2014-001 includes installation improvements, and supersedes all previous versions of Java for OS X. This package installs the same version of Java 6 included in Java for OS X 2013-005.
When I again try to open CS4 I get the  same message To open “Adobe Photoshop CS4” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.
    Can anyone assist please?
    Thanks Colin

you may need to uninstall CS then reboot, try to see if it allows you to update your JAVA
    APPLE'S JAVA
    Java for OS X 2014-001
    SUN MICROSYSTEMS JAVA
    http://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_install.xml
    then reinstall CS4
I ran into something similar with CS6 where it needed to come off and go back on
technically CS4 is not supported by Adobe and reported to be problematic with Yosemite.

I get the message, "To open 'Adobe Illustrator CS5.1.app' you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime. What to do?

Sorry, I didn't say it damages Java.
Yes, I know. You were quoting from a post on Adobe's site.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it wasn't since Mountain Lion.
Yes, I think that's correct. Apple stopped installing Java as part of the OS after Lion. If you check the installers for Mountain Lion through Yosemite, there are a lot of root Java processes OS X still installs, or Java wouldn't work at all. It's just the actual runtime environment no longer installs. The user has to do that.
that the application files are damaged. They are not talking about JAVA itself.
What application files? Do you mean the Adobe apps themselves? If so, yes, it's been reported that the CS5 and CS6 apps in particular usually need to be reinstalled after upgrading OS X to Yosemite. That's actually an old problem that isn't a Yosemite only issue.

My mac keeps telling me to open “Adobe Photoshop CS5” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime? I have already done this several times. I recently foolishly updated to yosemite and now this error message keeps popping up! Any idea what to do?

  • To open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.

Recently updated to OSX Yosemite.  Now every time I turn the computer on I get this message.
To open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.
I don't know what CS5ServiceManager is.  And when I click on the "More Info" button, I am redirected to a blank screen.  So I'm confused and a little worried.  Is it necessary to install Java SE 6 runtime?  If so, I think I can find the instructions on how to do it, but I'd like to know if (1) it is safe to do so and (2) if it's necessary.

Here it is: Apple Java 2014-001. Quite safe to install. Only necessary if you are using Adobe's CS5 suite.

I have PS 5.1 on my Mac. After I installed Yosemite, it will not work. I get an error saying "To open “Adobe Photoshop CS5.1.app” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." Hi Chris,
Shortly after I got your message below, I got another message that claims it is from "help desk 24x7 has sent you a message - Adobe Forums”.
I am attaching the message.  I find it suspicious that it is asking for a Skype ID and a telephone number.  What do you think?
