Adobe Captivate LMS Compatibility Guide - Anyone Interested??

Why is it so hard to find information about Captivate LMS Compatibility?
I'll admit to being somewhat frustrated with the lack of easily procurable information about how to make Adobe Captivate content compatible with the plethora of LMS products now flooding the marketplace.  (There are over 100.) I had hoped for years that Adobe would put up a site (or at least a page or two) that listed LMSs and laid out the correct settings in Captivate to use for each one.  Sadly this hasn't happened.  And the search function on this forum seems to be broken, which makes it more than hard to find information about a given named LMS.
So in desperation I've decided to try and provide a venue for this type of information myself.  I'm going to reserve a section on my website at www.infosemantics.com.au for information specific to Adobe Captivate LMS Compatibility.  I'll be listing anyLMS products there for which I can procure information related to using Captivate.  Headings on each LMS page will overview the LMS functionality, compatibilty with SCORM or AICC standards, any known issues with compatibility with Captivate content, what Cp quiz settings other users have found work successfully, as well as any modifications to templates, or workarounds that have proven useful.
Naturally, I only have access to a small number of LMS products for testing. So I'm enlisting help from any LMS users on this forum to provide suggestions and information collaboratively.
Here's what I need from you:
Simply go to http://www.infosemantics.com.au/contact and leave a message stating the brand and version of LMS/s you use, and a contact email address where I can reach you for information on how you got your Captivate content to work with it.  I will add a new page to the LMS Guide covering every LMS for which people offer information and add the info under each heading.  Each LMS page will also allow comments so that other users can offer feedback and suggestions.  If the volume of response is to high for mere comments, I can add a forum for each LMS where users can exchange information on what worked for them.  User's interested in a given LMS can subscribe to that page so that they will be notified via RSS of any updates to information.
I intend to create test projects in Cp5 that have various combinations of Quiz Settings which (according to user feedback) SHOULD WORK on each LMS.  You'll be able to download these zipped SCORM or AICC packages to test on your own LMS as well as the Captivate project files (cp and cptx format) used to create them, so that you can see the settings used.  Hopefully this will help you to debug compatibility with your own LMS.
You can also leave a message on the contact form if you are trying to use a particular LMS but haven't had much success and would appreciate getting information about it.  I can't promise to find the answers, but someone else that chimes in might be able to do so once they know you're looking.
My sincere hope is that over time this resource will build into something that will save a lot of time and angst for every Captivate developer trying to work with an ever-growing number of LMS products. More and more clients have them.  But it's a minefield out there.
Anyone interested in participating in this attempt?

No, I'm not only concerned with Cp5's LMS compatibility.
I intend to put up information about all Captivate versions that anyone can supply information on.  Most likely this will be from about Cp3 onward.

  • Question on the Adobe Captivate 6.x Google LMS Widget With Email Reporting

Im looking to use the Adobe Captivate 6.x Google LMS Widget With Email Reporting to collect quiz answers and results but due to security issues I would like to put the results directly into a databse and not into google.
Does anyone have any experience in doing this and if so how what do I have to change to get the widget to send the results to the database.
    Thanks

Email reporting has been removed in Captivate 6 out-of-the-box, though it can be achieved using a widget.
You can use Michael’s widget to achieve the same - http://www.cpguru.com/email-reporting-widget-for-adobe-captivate/

  • ADOBE CAPTIVATE 5 LMS course launch #Scene_1

I have an adobe captivate course my associate has created in Captivate 5.  This course is just like everyone of his previous courses he has created.  But this course starts on a page title captivatecourse.htm   and after about 30 seconds to 1 minute redirects the URL to captivatecourse.htm#Scene_1.
notice: this redirection does not happen in the mozilla or firefox browsers.  Only in Internet Explorer.
OK SO THIS IS THE PROBLEM.
We us a inline frame to launch our training courses inside of our LMS.  This little redirection " #Scene_1 " in the browser is causing the course to behave terribly and causing the course to stop responding.  Sometimes it just causes the content to jump around.
When this happens it also causes the sytem to not bookmark and not save scores.  Actually all LMS activity stops responding after it hits #Scene_1.
I was wondering if anyone has run into this problem with a CAPTIVATE COURSE and what is the work around.  To note: the workaround  of opening the course in a new browser window is not an option right now.  Management wants the course to stay within the same browser window.
    -doug lubey of louisiana

how is this causing a problem.
when the captivate course /javascript changes the url / page title from coursexxx.htm to coursexxx.htm#Scene_1; it causes the javascript to load a swf file some how.  it appears to be a bug in the captivate course / swf files /javascript files or the combination their of.
What the #Scene_1 is doing: it is causing the course to load
    A 2nd time
    A 3rd time
    A 4th tine
    Etc..
I think the problem is caused by the captivate course causing some javascript to run:
because the Url changes to  coursexxxx.htm#Scene_1  and the title of the course in the browser
also changes to course title + scene 1
    search reference captivate 5  year:2010
problems running a captive course using inline frames
captivate training course url is changed once the course is launched
course posted as a scorm 2004
i tested this problem in multiple lms systems and it is a consistent problem when playing the content within a inline frame

  • Adobe Captivate 6 swf browser compatibility

Hi i wanted to know the browser compatibility when i publish a swf file using Adobe Captivate 6.  Does it support all browsers? Even old versions of Internet Explorer?

    Hi, RodWard.
I found this thread because I, too, am concerned with browser compatibility. I verified that my browsers are all running a supported version of Flash, but I'm still having issues reporting my results to my internal web server. I've researched the issue to find it has nothing to do with my web server or PHP compatibility, but rather some issue with the SWF file. The internal server reporting works when I view the presentation in IE 9, but not when I view it in Chrome 24 or IE 8. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Exporting the result of output of adobe captivate to moodle LMS

Please i am new to adobe captivate,
I'm working on a project and we are using Moodle as LMS, i have developed some learning material for student using adobe captivate. The learning material has some quiz in it (tutor marked quiz).
My major challenge is that i want to be able to put the scores from the quiz for each student into moodle as the student is taking the learnig material.
I published the adobe captivate file to flash.
    Thanks

For Moodle, I would suggest you use Report to LMS as Percent, not Score, and use Quiz Results Only.  Unless there is some compelling reason why you need to report Interactions and Score, I would just use Report Score.  The less information you throw at an LMS, the more likely it is to work for you in many cases.
In your Manifest settings, set the Duration to a number of minutes tha corresponds to the duration of the course or module but make sure it is in the format shown (e.g. 00:30:00 for 30 minutes).  Some LMSs won't work properly without this setting. If you will be setting up a number of courses or course modules in the same Moodle server, you need to alter the default Identifiers that Captivate inserts so as to differentiate between all the various courses and course modules you may need to track.  If they all have the same identifiers, Moodle will think they're all the same course and your results will be faulty.
When you add a course to Moodle you can specify if it's a SCORM course, which will mean that you can ONLY use a SCORM module as the content for that course.  But you can also insert a SCORM module as an activity in a normal Moodle course.  You just need to select that as the Activity type.
If you will be working a lot with Moodle, I suggest you go to www.moodle.org and start reading their forum posts about setting up e-learning courses.

  • Adobe Connect as an LMS and Adobe Captivate html 5

We are using Adobe Connect as an LMS.
We can create and publish Adobe Captivate modules as html 5,
Our problem is iOS devices (iPhone and iPad) can't access the courses through adobe Connect's courses and content because it is flash based and not supported by iOS.
The result is we have html 5, we can publish it to Adobe Connect, iOS devices can use the link to run the course, but we can't use it with the Adobe Connect Course displays.
Has any found a way to do that?
    Thank you.

    Ashwani,
Thank  you for your request. I asked my developer for moire information - here are his clarifications for my question:
    ================================================================================
Technically it's Adobe Connect itself and a curriculum on Adobe Connect that are giving us the problem. I just borrowed an iPad and tried to login to Adobe Connect. I can't even login - it tells me I need to download Flash.
So the issue doesn't have anything to do with Captivate, it's Adobe Connect. We don't need to share any content - just try to login to Adobe Connect and you get stopped right there.
    The real issue is
iOS users can't access HTML5 content on Adobe Connect because they can't login to Adobe Connect - that requires Flash. That means Adobe Connect isn't acting as an LMS, it's just a web server holding two kinds of content that you can link to. How can we login to Adobe Connect from an iOS device to see the list of curricula and access the courses they contain as an LMS with reporting, etc.?
    =====================================================================
Would you still need to see the content?
    Thank you,
    Bill

  • Adobe Captivate CC - Device Compatibility

    Hello,
We are currently working on a virtual tour for the National Flight Academy. You can view the virtual tour at this link...http://www.nationalflightacademy.com/virtualtour/
We built the tour with Adobe Captivate CC and published with both HTML5 and SWF checked.
We are noticing that the virtual tour doesn't work as well as it should on Mobile Devices i.e. Iphones, Androids...as well as the firefox browser.
Are these issues on our end and can be fixed, or are they just known problems on said platforms?
Are there other issues that others have came across as well, on other devices and platforms?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    Rick,
    You're right!
    I apologize, very busy here.
Basically, when you are on your mobile device and go to the site and experience the virtual tour it opens it up in a new window and only shows the video. No interface. Once the video is finished you exit out of the video window that pops up and you are prompt to choose your path. Once you click which way you want to go, another video window pops up and the interface is gone again. You are not able to view the interface and click on the 360 Degree tour or the get more info button while the video is playing. You have to wait till the end of the video.
However, when you wait till the video is over and click on either the 360 tour or the get info button, it will automatically refresh the tour and you have to start form the beginning.
FireFox won't let me even play the video, on Mac or PC.
    It gives me an error.....
    Adobe Captivate
This browser does not support some of the content in the file you are trying to view. Use one of the following browsers:
    Internet Explorer 9 or later
    Safari 5.1 or later
    Google Chrome 17 or later
    Hope this helps!

  • Adobe Captivate 6 and Shortcut Keys

I have designed a course in Adobe Captivate 6 and want to include a Shortcut key such as CTRL+O which the user hits to perform an action like they do in a production system they are being trained on for their job (non Adobe related).
When I set up a slidelet and the associated Action via a Shortcut to jump to a slide further down in the presentation this works in preview fine, but when I upload it to the LMS and test it there, it performs an Open function instead because this is being run in an Internet Brower.
Does anyone know of anyway for the Captivate CTRL+O to supercede the Internet Explorer CTRL+O?
Please let me know either way.
    Thank you...................

Browser functions ALWAYS come before any functions of the content within the browser.
Trying to create course content that replicates keystroke shortcut behaviour of applications that use Function keys or Control keys is doomed to failure.
I would recommend you find another way to display the required keystrokes (e.g. buttons or images on screen) and get your users to click with their mouse to indicate the correct keys.

  • Debug Javasctipt in Adobe Captivate

What is the best way to debug JavaScript in Adobe Captivate?
Using the below tutorial I am trying to set a cookie that remembers the menu of sections that have been viewed when the browser reopens. Basically sets and loads 6 variables with a cookie. But it's not working and I can't find the JavaScript to debug in Chrome. Alternately does anyone know of a better tutorial for setting cookies in Captivate then this post?
Eating JavaScript Cookies with Adobe Captivate - CaptivateDev.com

Supposing you don't use a LMS, this could be the work flow:
Add a Text Entry Box in the beginning of the course to ask for the name. If you want to be sure that they really do enter a name, have a look at:
Where is Null? - Captivate blog
Each Text Entry Box has an associated user variable. It is created automatically with the same generic name as the TEB, but you could better use a more significant name for the user variable:
Save Time: Create Associated Variable for Text Entry Box while Defining this TEB - Captivate blog
On the Score slide, insert a text container (caption or shape) in which you insert the user variable, using the X button in the Properties panel of the text container; it will appear between $$ and be replaced by the value of the variable on runtime

  • Adobe Captivate 6 XSS Errors with scormdriver.js

Using Adobe Captivate 6.0.1.240 and getting critical issue errors from Fortify scans by our security group. Does anyone know of a solution? I haven't been able to see issues in google queries and in the forums. --thanks
    EXAMPLE
    scormdriver.js, line 1032 (Cross-Site Scripting: DOM)
    Fortify Priority: Critical Folder Critical
    Kingdom: Input Validation and Representation
Abstract: The method WriteToDebug() in scormdriver.js sends unvalidated data to a web
browser on line 1032, which can result in the browser executing malicious code.

This looks like the code that outputs all the SCORM calls to a debug file (if the user invokes debug mode).
Dave's solution is probably the best one.  You could make this change in the scormdriver.js template in the Captivate install directory, but make sure you keep a backup copy of the unchanged file in case you ever need to debug something with your LMS.

  • Lock the progress bar in the Adobe Captivate 5.5 playbar.

I recently read some interesting postings from cpguru website. One of them is how to lock the progress bar.
It says that we can lock the progess bar with simple three lines of AS2 code.
    this.stop();
    delete _root.cpPbcBar_mc.pbcBar_mc.pbcSlider_mc.onMouseDown;
    delete _root._level0.cpPbcBar_mc.pbcBar_mc.pbcSlider_mc.onMouseDown;
I would like to use this code, but my captivate version is 5.5, which means
I do need to have AS3 code. Is there anyone who already figure out how to do it with AS3?
If so, could you give me some guidance.
    Sami

    Hi Sami,
I am not sure if you would like to hide it or lock it.
I can recommend you to use the a system defined variable and set it to hide the play bar on ceratin slides so it would not appear on those slide.
    Thanks!
