Adobe Captivate Reviewer - won't load .crev file in Vista

Using Reviewer for the first time (Captivate 4 on Vista box).
Downloaded Reviewer from email link
Clicked on .crev file from email link
In the Reviewer, got message "Unable to load SWF file. Try opening Adobe Captivate Reviewer in the Administrator mode"  (see pic)
Clicked OK
Clicked the .crev file in email link again per message "Load Adobe Captivate Movie (.crev, .swf., or .zip)"
Got same "unable to load.... " message again (see pic). Viscious circle here
Downloaded Reviewer to my XP machine - all works like it should.
What do I need to do to my Vista box (primary machine) for the Reviewer to work?

This issue arises because, for some reason, the adobe developer(s) have hard coded a temporary file location of "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate Reviewer <X>*\workspace" to store the .crev, .swf or .zip file when you open it from its original location.  In most corporate environments "\Program Files\ or \Program Files (x86)\" is, correctly, restricted to non-administrative users to ensure the integrity of managed applications and the industry standards for temporary storage have been long established as \temp\, \windows\temp\ or <user profile>\appdata\temp\
The corporate workaround to your issue is relatively simple.  Your user account needs to be granted the privilege to be able to create and own the workspace folder in the above location.  If this is not feasible then you could always just copy the entire contents of "C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Adobe\Adobe Captivate Reviewer <X>*" to a location on your machine where you have full access, i.e. your desktop.
Ultimately Adobe development need to update the code in Adobe Air.dll to create the workspace in a temporary folder that conforms to industry standards

  • Multiple reviewers cannot open CREV files in Adobe Captivate Reviewer 1.0 after the first review

We are using Captivate 4.0 with Captivate Reviewer 1.0 for review and comments. The problem we are having just started within the last month...
We place the CREV file and folder on the network so that multiple reviewers can access. All have Adobe Captivate Reviewer 1.0 installed.
When the first person opens the CREV file, they are told that the folder is already in use, and that they must create another.
Once a new folder is created a user may open the CREV file and make comments and save them. However, subsequent reviewers cannot open the CREV file to add their comments. Subsequent reviewes must create anothe folder and then they can open and review the file and add comments.
However, because the CREV file is now saving comments in a different folder, reviewers cannot see each others comments. The last module we did where everthing worked correctly and multiple reviewers could open and comment the same file without any issues was about one month ago on 07/29. We have no idea if something has changed since then that would render Captivate Reviewer 1.0 inoperable, but we'd like to see if anyone else has seen and/or resolved this issue...
    Thanks,
    James

No, I've had WIndows 7 since it was released through MSDN.  Adobe Captivate 4, released in January 2009, was the most recent version of Captivate available when Windows 7 was released to MSDN and Technet subscribers in August 2009.  Captivate 5 was not released until May 2010, almost 9 months after Windows 7 was released to the public.
Captivate 4 has a message at startup mentioning that one should run it as administrator, which is a Windows 7 feature involving User Account Control.  We bought it sometime after Windows 7 was released but before Captivate 5 was released, otherwise we would have bought Captivate 5.
Captivate 4 has worked for us on Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.  For it to work on Windows Vista and up, we had to make sure a particular update was applied.
The problem is that it works when it feels like it, and the rest of the time it just freezes at startup.  Deleting the app data folder seemed to help, so perhaps it had issues with state corruption.  These issues have plagued this application from day 1 on every OS we've used it on.

  • Adobe Captivate 8 Send For Shared Review link to Adobe Captivate Reviewer provides no download for Captivate 8

In Adobe Captivate 8 if you use the feature "Send for Shared Review" and select the option "Send Email" and "Attach Adobe Captivate Reviewer" the end result is a link generated in the email to download Adobe Captivate Reviewer (doesn't attach it as indicated).
As noted in the email Adobe Captivate 8 Reviewer is REQUIRED to review the file. No big deal there is a link to it in the email : the download link - http://www.adobe.com/go/cp8.0_reviewerapp
Unfortunately that link redirects to another page http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/captivate-6-review-app and on that page there is no Adobe Captivate 8 Reviewer link to download. *screenshot of the page below*
Anyone know the correct link location to download Adobe Captivate 8 Reviewer?
I am still searching but so far have been unable to find it.
Thank you in advance to anyone that can help.

When sharing the link for people to review use the same link http://www.adobe.com/go/cp8.0_reviewerapp but just give instructions to use the one specified for 7.0 (mac or windows).
Sorry to ask again but want to make sure before I send this out to people.
    Thank you.

  • Adobe Captivate Reviewer 2.0 not installed with Captivate 5

    Hello everyone,
I was wondering if someone could direct me to a location where I might be able to download Captivate Reviewer 2.0.   I noticed my system added this program when I purchased the Captivate 5 upgrade, however, it does not boot up.

    Hi,
If you have installed Captivate 5 successfully, 'Adobe Captivate Reviewer 2.0' should be present in the 'Program Files' folder.
Please look for following folder and run the EXE file.
    <C/D: drive>\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate Reviewer 2.0\

  • TS1702 iBooks won't load PDF files any more on my Ipad2. Anybody seen this one before?

    Hello All,
iBooks won't load PDF files any more.
I have a lot of PDF files so I thought I reached a maximum number of files or space so I deleted a lot of old files but this did not help.
I rebooted, synced, updated, restarted, etc. - everything that I can think of and I still have the same problem.
I don't remembered the last file that I loaded into iBooks, as I usually put them into collections.
I can still load PDF files into other applications like PDF Reader, but I prefer to have them all in iBooks.
    Anybody seen this one before?
    I have 64GB iPad2 and I have over 14GB free space.

There have been several threads on this topic over the last few weeks. It's not clear what the issue is, and it is not universal, but tend to effect users storing large numbers of PDFs in iBooks. Possible it has some thing to dowith capacity of the app, or specific characteristics of some of the PDFs.

  • Silverlight won't load .asx file on 13" MkBkPro

Silverlight won't load .asx file on 13" MkBkPro
I want to view the streaming video of lectures from a password encoded site where it seems the only app I can use is Microscoft's Silverlight. Problem is that Safari won't initiate the Silverlight plugin on the 13" MacBookPro. The 13" MacBookPro is my main desktop computer; it is attached to a Cinema Display for extra desktop space, thus I really want to use this computer to view the videos. The videos load and play just fine using Safari on my MacBookAir, with a very similar configuration as the MacBookPro.
I've trashed and re-installed all Silverlight files from the MacBookPro as recommended by the Microsoft Silverlight forum, but still the videos won't load. Just for a brief portion of a second, the "loading" bar appears, but then disappears, leaving me with a black and blank window in Safari on the MacBookPro.
I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on a 13" MacBookPro5,5 AND on a MacBookAir3,1. Both computers are running Safari 5.1 (6534.50). Both computers have the Silverlight plugin (ver 4.0.60531.0) installed within ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins and within ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Silverlight/OutOfBrowser. There is no trace of Silverlight in myaccount/Library/Internet Plug-Ins or in myaccount/Library/Receipts subdirectories on either computer. The only difference I can find between the two computers is their processor, the type of HD, and that the MacBookPro's SLLauncher.app was modifed today (9/24/11), whereas that on the MacBookAir was modified 9/4/11.
Any suggestions of further things to try to get the videos to play on the MacBookPro?

I've previously tried that, but just to be sure, I tried again. Tthe only thing that downloads is the html file that contains the link to the video.
The Silverlight test on the Microsoft web site does not open Silverlight and load when using either Safari 5.1 or Firefox 6.0.2. So the issue on the MacBookPro5,5 involves more than a single streaming video web site or browser.
I've posted the same original description of the problem on the Silverlight forum. No responses. I'll try sending it to Microsoft as a problem installing Silverlight. That's supposed to be "no charge".
Thanks for your time and advice.

  • Issue with using Adobe Captivate Review 2.0 software

I have a file that is about 102Meg  published that I am sending out for review.  I am posting it to location that everyone has access to on our network.  The issue I am having is kind of odd.  If you install the Captivate Review software on a new machine you can review the .crev file add comments and save just fine.  If you close the programm you can not get the software to open the file again.  If you go to a different machine and install the software you can review the file again.  We are running 32bit Windows XP with duo cpu @ 2.66Ghz and 4 Gigs of Ram on our engineering computers. If we publish a small file size it does not seem to be an issus.  Has anyone else run into this issue?

No, but I would really appreciate it if you could report this to the Adobe Captivate team using the web address I have included below.

  • Captivate 6 won't load anymore?

    Hello,
I have been using Captivate 6 for many months now, but all of the sudden today CP won't load at all—whether attempting to open a file or CP in general.
My immediate reaction was to just reboot, but that did nothing; I also tried this workaround, again to no avail.
I can confirm that a CP process starts, as seen in the Task Manager, but it closes after 1-3 seconds. Otherwise, no visible signs of anything happening take place (e.g. don't even see the initial green loading screen).
I'm using Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit version with Service Pack 1. Processor is an Intel i5 @ 2.5Ghz, and I have 4 gigs of RAM.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Captivate 6 won't open

    Hi all
I use Adobe Captivate 6 in a corporate environment, and I'm currently experiencing issues running Adobe Captivate 6 after installing it.
For some reason when the laptop is taken off the network Adobe Captivate 6 would refuse to open at all.
Error: "Theme file copying failed. Try manually copying Adobe Captivate theme files from "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 x64\Gallery\Layouts\6_0\en_US" to "  \My Adobe Captivate Projects\Layouts\6_0\en_US"
I have searched all the "My Adobe Captivate Projects" folders on the drive and copied the contents from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 x64\Gallery\Layouts\6_0\en_US to all the folders matxhing "My Adobe Captivate Projects" but no avail.
Adobe Captivate 6 will then immediately quit and exit; unable to open Captivate..
    Any ideas? Thanks!

There is one major problem / defect with Captivate 6 on corporate networks. Even though it is possible to change the default locations for "Published projects" and "Cache files" it is not possible to change the default location of the Themes folder.
The Themes folder is always stored under My Documents in ”My Adobe Captivate Projects” in a sub-folder called “Layouts”. The "My Adobe Captivate Projects" folder is created under My Documents no matter if you changed the default locations or not. Changing the default location for "My Adobe Captivate Projects" will indeed do just that, and any saved projects will end up in this folder no matter where you place it. Trouble is that Captivate insists on creating that same folder again under "My Documents" to store the theme files.
If you don't have access to "My Documents" when you are offline or disconnected from your network you will not be able to start Adobe Captivate 6 no matter what you do. It will fail and shut down continously and there is nothing you can do about it.
I know this because at my work our My Documents are stored in a Roaming Profile on a server. I do have access to My Documents even if I am disconnected from the network, but we have a storage restriction on the My Documents folder of 100 MB. If you exceed this then the directory will become read only (which also makes Captivate go fubar and not start). Now this is a rather big problem since the Captivate themes folder take up 162 MB, so already upon installation of Captivate my storage restriction for My Documents is exceeded.
So in my infinite wisdom I decided to just delete the theme files as I didn't plan on using them anyways, but it turns out that is not possible.. Well of course you can delete them, but every single time you open up Captivate 6 it recreates the themes in your My Documents folder and once again screws everything up. I contacted Adobe about this and was notified that there is no way around this. The themes must be placed in My Documents and if you delete the folder then Captivate will recreate it again. I later found out that you actually only need to keep "blank.cptm" and "white.cptm" but can delete all other files (provided that one of these two is set as your default theme). That means that the Themes folder will "only" take up 20 MB of space in My Documents instead of the 162 MB. This is of course better and allows me to actually use Captivate, but it's still 20 MB wasted space of my precious alotted 100 MB.
So.. If you don't have a My Documents folder when you are working offline from the network you will never get Captivate 6 to work.
In my humble opinion this is a major design defect in Captivate 6. I sincerely can't understand how such an oversight can be made when you would expect that a large percentage of the Captivate users are actually working on corporate networks. I don't really see the reasoning for hardcoding the path to the Themes folder so it is placed in My Documents regardless of what you set the default locations to. Apparently Captivate has no problem actually grabbing the files from the installation directory and recreating the folder every time you delete it, so it would have made more sense to just make Captivate read the theme files from the installation directory to begin with.
I wrote this article -   http://www.cpguru.com/setting-up-adobe-captivate-6-in-a-corporate-environment/ - back in August about the problems I had getting Captivate 6 to work on a Corporate Network. However, it won't do you any good if you do not have a My Documents folder when you are disconnected from the network unfortunately.
    Sincerely,
    Michael

  • Premiere cs6 won't load cs5 file

This project contained a sequence that could not be opened.  No sequence preview presetfile or codec could be associated with this sequence type.
The project was created in CS5.  I get this messge again, again, and again, even after CS6 DID work once.  CS6 is supposed to load CS5-created premiere project and  sometimes converts it, etc.  Then won't load the converted project!!!!!
    I am using creative cloud.
    What is going on?

Jim, Thanks for the quick reply.  The problem is indeed a missing codec, viz. intra100.  There is a related problem that Adobe apparently has not solved: A/c to a technician.    CS5 overwrites CS6 files and vice-versa (in creative cloud anyway).  So,  I am constantly having to re-activate CS6  because of using CS5 for things like markers.
The tech said they would be working on it (two or three months ago).  Have you heard anything on this issue?
I am wondering if there is any simple way just to copy this particular coded for the moment.
    Thanks again.

After installing Captivate 3 and using it successfully for a
week. All of a sudden the program will not open. It gets stuck at

How can I solve this? I am completely lost and out of ideas.

    Welcome to our community, Eric
You might need to reset the Captivate Settings file. (I call
this "Whacking Captivate upside the head").
    To reset the settings file:
    Ensure Captivate is closed.
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following location:
    ?:\Documents and Settings\????\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe
    Captivate
Note that ? represents the drive letter you are using and
???? represents your logged in user name.
Rename or delete the file named
    captivate_v30.dat
Restart Captivate and hopefully things will be improved.

Hello - I just installed eLearning Suite 2 and cannot open Adobe Captivate on a Windows 7 machine. All other eLearning Suite 2 programs launch and run, but Captivate freezes on the "Loading..." screen at open and will not proceed any further.
I have previously used Captivate 4 with no errors. I meet the system requirements and have plenty of open disk space.
I have tried running as admin, restarting my machine, disconnecting from my work network at startup and clearing the user preferences. None of those helped.
    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Excellent point and thanks for sharing. I'm not sure if you are allowed to do this where you work, but there is an application that may assist. It's called "Font Frenzy" and you can read about it at the link below:
