Adobe Captivate Soft Skills elearning demo

Hello Captivators,
I went to the following site about Captivate:

Located on this page was an interesting demo on "soft skills"
elearning. What really caught my interest, is part way thru the
demo (2 or 3 slide in or so) was located a button in the upper left
of the captivate view screen, that was labeled "Behind the Scenes".
When this button was clicked, it displayed, rather nicely, some
information and a nice chart/graph of what was happening in the
demo. I was wondering how they accomplished that effect. One click
and the info would show, and click again, and the demo continues
where it left off.
Does anyone know how to implement that type of functionality?
Also is it possible while progressing through a scenario based
elearning exercise, to track what the user's last slide was. Much
like a cookie for a web page, etc??? So if the user would click a
"back" button, it would put the user back on the last slide he or
she was viewing.

From what I'm seeing, this is a simple Rollover Image object.
You mouse over and an image the size of the movie displays. Should
be fairly simple to accomplish.

Adobe Flex or Adobe Captivate for an eLearning Platform

A client of mine would like to build a project where he would like to keep track of students as the go through Math Lessons and Quizes of each Chapter, with the potential to post their achievements to facebook and so on.
Before I jump into Captivcate, I need to make sure that Captivate can do what we need:
- Simple Animation explaining a Math problem
- Interaction with User when Needed
- Able to track Student on where they're reached
- Able to continue on a Mobile
- Quizes
I am curious to know if I am able to code in Actionscript if need be, say to post to facebook.
Please do advise me if I am able ot perform all these in Captivate, or Simply build such a platform in Flex?

I have done stuff with Authorware/Flex/CP. Here's my take:
- Simple Animation explaining a Math problem:
YES
- Interaction with User when Needed: I don't understand what you mean ?
If you mean like drag/drops, hotspots ...etc ...then...YES, SOMEWHAT. Hotspots are very basic. Drag/Drop...you can build/buy widget to do this...buying has its limitations.
- Able to track Student on where they're reached:
YES.
- Able to continue on a Mobile
MAY BE...if have an LMS and your mobile device supports FLASH....so forget about i-Devices.
- Quizes
I dont like the default quiz slides in CP at all. They are very convoluted and too many buttons to do simple things. It's better to build your own quiz templates or use different tools for this.
You can use Flex to build stuff that you can't do in CP and embed in CP as swf widgets. You would need the lib to have Flex swf to communicate w/ CP.
I just wish that CP can do stuff like Authorware.

Is Adobe Captivate for me?

Hello,
I came across Adobe Captivate and the eLearning Suite while looking for screen capture video software. I don't know if this is going to serve my purpose and that is my question.
What I would like to do is create tutorial videos through screen capture and video recording. For instance, I might record how to install a sound card into a PC, then I might want to record my screen as I show how to check for the latest Drivers, I want to be able to talk the user through this as I go of course.
So is this software what I am looking for? Can it do all this, or would I be better off with something else?
if Anyone has rich examples of this software doing something close I would love to see them! After all, seeing is believing.

My 2cents. For the software training, Captivate is indeed for me personally the best app around, and I have been trying a lot (Camtasia, Smartbuilder, Viewletbuilder...).
Of course you have to record the video (that is not possible with Captivate) with a video-recorder. In CP5 importing the video (Adobe Media Encoder will be automatically used for converting if it is not flv) and working with it has become really great. You can spread the video over different slides, readjust the timings, resize, insert Text Captions on the slides with video, add Question slides, audio ...
Would recommend to go for the eLearning suite if budget allows it, because besides Captivate you will have some other great apps (Flash, Photoshop, Soundbooth, Dreamweaver, Acrobat Pro,...) and moreover very nice roundtripping to Photoshop and Soundbooth.

Soft skills demo - how done?

In CP5, I've been looking at the soft skills demo on the products page (http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/), lower right, "WHAT YOU CAN DO" Soft Skills Training. On slide 3, what's used to do the little mini slide show? Is this a widget or standard object? Can I get the project file for this project?

Fixed it. Just imported it into a blank project and all was

Adobe Captivate 5 DEMO

Hello,
I am using the Adobe Captivate 5 DEMO. I am trying to record about one hour worth of screen shot, in full motion video. I am recording an application which streams live stock market prices onto a chart. I have tried this repeatedly and have found that the 'filmstrip' in captivate only records 503 seconds, or about eight minutes worth of my one hour recording.
Does anyone know if the demo version has a limit as to time or file size recording? Any help is appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
The trial version is a fully working version. But I am answering just to warn you that it is normally not a very good idea to capture screen demonstrations in Full Motion Recording. Is there a particular reason why you do prefer this to the more natural (for Captivate) Automatic Recording. Not only does this lead to much smaller files (perhaps your system was not capable to keep up with such a large movie) but editing is much easier afterwards. For the user the experience will not be that different, when necessary Captivate will switch automatically to Full Motion Recording to show p.e. drag-and-dop actions, moving the scroll bar.... The user experience will not be that different, but also for the user it will be possible to have much more control over the movie.
If you told more exactly what you were trying to capture, perhaps we would be able to give you some more tips. Just hoping you did not mind my popping in, because it is not really an answer to your question.

Adobe Captivate Demo

Hi,
I tried with the steps given in the "Create Adobe Captivate Demo", But the Adobe Captivate Demo option appears disabled after clicking the Project Manager tab and Placing the cursor on the folder and then selecting File > New, and choosing Adobe Captivate Demo. Please Help.

I'm not certain, but this may be one of those features that will only work if you have installed RoboHelp as part of the Technical Communication Suite.
At any rate, even though it's possible to open Captivate and record a demo from RoboHelp, I'd never advise anyone to work that way. My advice would be to use each product independently. Then add the Captivate demo you created using Captivate to your RoboHelp project.
And yes, I'm well aware that the method does exist, but then again, just because I can connect my blender to my car's cigarette lighter doesn't mean it's the best way to use either, no?

Adobe Captivate, or the whole Adobe eLearning 6.1 Suite?

I am building eLearning modules for staff training across a Province - would I need Adobe Captivate, or the whole Adobe eLearning 6.1 Suite?

Maybe I was not clear: Captivate is not included in the CC but is a separate subscription (which I would recommend over buying license, better price/quality value).
All depends on what you want to develop? I'm using both Photoshop and Audition (from the CC) intensively for graphical and audio assets. I also use Illustrator (inserting vector graphics as smart objects into Photoshop because of its roundtripping functionality with Captivate). Edge Animate is included in the CC and is great for creating animations. I'm also using several other applications.
But if you are buying graphics, or use another graphics editor, and can live with the audio created within Captivate (or use Audacity), don't need animations etc, you could just start with Captivate subscription?

How to do a Khan Academy video within or uploaded to Adobe Captivate?

Hi wondering if anyone has uploaded a Khan Academy type video into Adobe Captivate, or what was your process and what tools did you use? This would be an eLearning module with content first then with a virtual learning blackboard video (Kahn Academy) then more content. Thoughts? Thanks for your time

This is one way you could do it: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes. The thumbnails can be as small as you'd like. This way none of the video files have to load before they play button is selected. Otherwise the page would take forever to load.

Is it possible to make a podcast-like project using Adobe
Captivate?
I don't mean MP3's or have it exported to my iPod or

I hope you have upgraded to the latest captivate version 8.0.1.242. If not please follow the steps mentioned on this post Adobe Captivate Help | Adobe Captivate 8 patch. Make sure to remove layouts and preferences as mentioned in the link.
There is an issue with text in case of multi-hierarchal bullets but apart from that other things should work fine. You might just have to change some position parameters to fix the results. Soft Skills Sample.cp

I am just starting out with Adobe Captivate. I am trying to preview the Soft Skills Sample.cp that is included. There is no audio when I preview this file or when I published this file.

Hi Kelly
There are essentially two different ways to "fix" the fuzzy text. If it's a one off, you may add a line or three at the bottom of the Caption. Then configure the bottom line with a bullet. After that, size the caption so you don't see the bullet.
Or, if you want to influence all transparent captions, click Edit > Preferences > Project > SWF Size and Quality and clear the Anti-alias Transparent Captions option.
Keep in mind that this may also be affected by the Windows settings that are configured. Specifically, an option called "font smoothing". If Font Smoothing is enabled on the PC used to edit and publish the Captivate, it also causes another type of Anti-aliasing to occur that is unrelated to what you see in Captivate.

Adobe Captivate 6 activated but acts as a trial version?

Although activated, my Adobe Captivate 6 (eLearning Suite 6.1) acts as a trial version in a sense that Project Expiry Date is disabled and all my project expire after one month.
If I go to Help, the active option is: 'Deactivate....' so there is no way to sort this out by any means available in the application itself.
There is probably a similar behaviour in other elearning suite applications, but I am using only Captivate so I wouldn't know whether that is the case.
My PC is on the corporate network, the eLearning Suite 6.1 is installed only on my PC and I don't have the admin rights.
Is there an option to check the activation status and/or somehow reactivate it again, as it is really annoying to re-publish and upload to company's web portal e-learning files every month.

Remove imsmanifest catalog tag text 'Adobe Captivate Course'

Greetings,
After I've using elearning suite 6's multi-scorm packager (would love for this to be a part of basic Cp6, nuther topic),
I see that in the imsmanifest for the root folder (zipped) there is a <catalog> tag with the text 'Adobe Captivate Course'. Please see pic.
I don't remember seeing an opportunity to edit out this text and replace with a more accurate description. Of course I can edit it out of the imsmanifest.xml file, but I'd rather see where this can be removed/edited up front.
Can someone explain what I'm missing or why this is happening?
