Adobe Captivate - Web Objects

Im having a problem publishing web objects in a Captivate project.  When creating, the web objects are working in the preview mode, but show blank after publishing.

I am assuming you are referring to Web Object interaction here. Upload your course to a web server or SCORM Cloud and check if you still get the same error.

  • Why Does Adobe Captivate 8 Web Object Not Get Published Correctly

    Hi
I am trying to insert a YouTube video in Adobe Captivate and publish it. While it previews fine, when i publish it as an SWF, i see just a blank frame.
Can you help out here? Also, if I want to publish it as an PDF, will the video play there too?
    Warm Regards
    Akshay

    Hi Akshay,
I am assuming the method you are using now is embedding Youtube videos into your Web object. My suggestion is it will be much easier if you use the Youtube Learning Interaction instead of a Web object to insert Youtube videos to your Captivate project.
This can be found in the Interactions Toolbar -> Learning Interactions -> Youtube
Also, as Sreekanth mentioned, please test it on a web server, or SCORM cloud.
Youtube interaction will work when exported to PDF as well.

  • Adobe Captivate 7- Event Video not connecting & Web Object not working

Greetings all. I hope you may be able to assist me. I am subscribed to Adobe Captivate 7. I am running Windows 7 on a 32 bit computer. The system is set up on a business network and I have verified the installation of Captivate is accurate and up to date.
    I am experiencing an issue:
    1. When adding an Event Video (Video> Insert Video> Event Video> Already deployed to a web server...) using the URL I received the following message:  "Failed to load the video file. The file path or URL may be invalid..." This HTML file path leads directly to the video on our internal shared docing port.
Currently, the only way I can add a video is to use the Muti-Slide Synchronized Video option. I do not like using this option because there are no play or stop buttons. The video simply plays with no option to pause.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Angelique

    Hello and welcome,
Is Captivate installed on the network? That can cause a lot of problems, same as when you have My Documents installed on the network. Please have both on your system. Moreover, do launch it as an Administrator?

  • Can I use JavaScript to force objects to overlap a Web Object in Captivate 7?

Hi, so I have all of these great ideas for using Web Objects to enhance my courses, but am discouraged by the fact that I can't seem to get anything to overlap a Web Object. The only thing I can seem to get to overlap a Web Object is another Web Object. I have found that buttons seem to still work under the Web Object (which is good) but I really would like to know of a way to allow things on the Captivate timeline to be viewed on top of them. Things like text fields and images.
I've seen posts about how to use JavaScript to have the menu show above Web Objects, but that code doesn't seem to work for regular objects. I read that Web Objects sit in an "<iframe>" tag and that that forces it to appear above everything else. I'm left wondering if it is possible to get around this by somehow putting Captivate objects in an <iframe> of their own with JavaScript? Or is there some other way? Does anybody know any JavaScript I can apply to Captivate objects to get them to appear above a Web Object?
    Thanks,
    Dan

So I have come to learn that the "<iframe>" tag for a Web Object is simply a window that sits on top of the course. Now I'm wondering if anyone has an effective method for importing flash quality animation (in whatever form) that can sit underneath of Captivate objects and still be HTML5 compliant?
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Web Object web page underneath Captivate

I have a video embedded in a web page. That web page is then inserted into a Web Object. The video controller has a full-screen button. Like this:
When full-screen is activated the video appears BEHIND the Captivate web page like this:
This only happens when published as Flash and viewed in Windows Explorer on Windows 7 (as far as I'm able to test). Of course, this is what our client will be viewing this with. It works just fine On Windows XP, Chrome, Safari and HTML5. In those cases the video appears on top of everything like it should. Does anyone know of a solution to this?

    Hello Steverb,
I think by Windows explorer you mean Internet Explorer.
Can you tell me the version of Flash installed along with the version of Internet explorer on your computer ?
Are you trying to open a swf file or a .htm file ?  Please open .htm file and then check.
Please create a blank project with only one slide with webobject interaction and see if you are able to reproduce the issue.

  • Captivate 7 web object not scrolling properly iPad multiscreen.html

I have a Captivate 7 project published as both SWF and HTML5. The project is to be deployed via an LMS using multiscreen.html.
The issue that I have is that I have a web object that requires scrolling but when I view multiscreen.html on my iPad I am required to scroll horizontally with my finger to achieve vertical scrolling of my web object, any attempt to scroll vertically just causes the web bouce effect in Safari. If I view the project via index.html on my iPad, scrolling works as expected with vertical scrolling behaving properly and no web bounce.
It seems as though multiscreen.html is getting the orientation of the device confused but that's just a guess. Has anyone else encountered this and if so, do they have a workaround that they can share please?
    Many thanks.

I've found that updating the file called 'Widget_40080.htm' with the highlighted section in the following image fixes the scrolling issue on iPad.

  • Captivate 7 Web Object Not Scrolling on iPad

I've inserted a web object in to my project and filled it with text so that it requires scrolling. The project has been published as HTML5 with no scalable HTML content.
Scrolling works fine on PC but not on iPad (iOS 7). I'm guessing that this is down to the usual iFrame issues on iOS devices so I'm looking for a reliable way to get around this issue.
I'd be grateful if anyone has any suggestions.
As an aside, the main reason I'm looking to implement a web object is that I need to be able to style individual words within large amounts of text. Unfortunately this doesn't seem possible using the scrollable text interaction so I've had to resort to searching for an alternative solution, in this case pulling in an external HTML file with styled text in it. The full discussion is here for anyone who's interested: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5775245#5775245
    Thanks.

Does your Web Interaction show "Updated" on it? If not, you probably have older version of it. Apparently, the issue is already fixed in the updated version. Here is a screenshot.
You get this updated version automatically. If not, you can contact any Adobe support staff and they will provide you one.

  • Scores can be assigned to non interactive objects or scores cannot be assigned to interactive objects in adobe captivate?

Scores can be assigned to non interactive objects or scores cannot be assigned to interactive objects in adobe captivate?

???? What do you mean, please. Only interactive objects and question slides
can have a score. Some learning interactions are interactive as is
    Drag&Drop.

  • Web Object in Captivate is off slide

I am trying to publish a web object into swf, but the object skews off the slide. Anyone see this before?

TLCMediaDesign, Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure I understand your question. This is the view of the file within an LMS. The view is post-export, showing as Flash. The web object inside the working Captivate file is set within the working area, so smaller than the project size. When in Captivate, the web object size is well within the work area. But after export, it looks as the screenshot above. Does that make sense?

  • Can't select local html files with web object in captivate 8

I can select pdf's via browse, but it I want to add local html files I have to type the path in manually. I'm guessing this is just a bug, I should be able to choose web pages for the web object even if they are local right?

Fireworks is a graphics editor that can export code; it is not an HTML/code editor.
If you have exported HTML from Fireworks, you ought to be able to re-import that, but I would think most people who use Fireworks exported code would just modify their Fireworks document and re-export. (Fireworks' code is not robust and it is only intended for mockups and prototypes. Fireworks is not intended for developing and maintaining live Web sites; Dreamweaver is.)
If your developer used Dreamweaver, then I really don't expect that Fireworks would be able to import that, nor any code that isn't in exactly the format that it can export. If you know your developer used Fireworks, then you need to look for .png files. Fireworks uses an enhanced version of the PNG format for its native document format.
If you are making small adjustments to your site, then you might be better off working in Dreamweaver. If you're doing a site re-design, then Fireworks is an excellent tool for laying out your design and producing your graphics, but you will, at some point, need to move over to Dreamweaver for coding.

  • Web Object not visible in published project

I'd like to use the new web object interaction widget in Captivate 7 to embed a website into a project. Everything works fine as long as I  only preview the project in my web browser. But when I publish it and go to the slide where the web object is supposed to be, there's only a blank space. Why?
I've published the project in SWF-Format with  eLearning-output set to "AdobeConnect". I tried to switch the option "Scalable HTML content" on and off as I heared that some people are having problems using this in connection with widgets, but no matter whether it's turned on or of, the web object doesn't show up. There must be something very
trivial that I have overlooked since I'm using the web object in the standard way it is meant to be used.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Andreas

Thanks for your advice, but it still doesn't work. I have created a new project for my tests with only the web object in it to make sure no other objects etc. are influencing the output. I  published the project and tried to run it on different browsers/operating systems and directly from my hard drive vs. Adobe Connect. The results:
Using my Mac and opening the project with the HTM.-file from my hard drive after I have added the published files folder  to the trusted locations for Flash (without this setting, it doesn't work), the web object only appears in Safari, but not in Chrome and Firefox. Using AdobeConnect, it's the same: only Safari.
Using a Windows laptop (again opening the project with the HTM.-file from my hard drive after I have added the published files folder  to the trusted locations for Flash), it works with Internet Explorer and Firefox, but not with Chrome. Using AdobeConnect, no browser works. I only get this message:
I can't use the web object when it only loads under very special circumstances. Moreover, I found out, that checking the "Scale HTML content" checkbox in the publish window  results in a totally misplaced web widget in those browsers that support the web object. It then looks like this:
I use this option regularly, so this is really a problem for me.
I hope you can tell, what I can do to get the web object running. I simply can't believe that this  is the standard behaviour and that everybody else is experiencing the same problems. There must be something I can do to get it running.
    I hope you can help.
    Best Regards

  • Web object widget (cp7) and TOC

I am using a web object widget to launch MP4 videos (hosted on a progressive streaming server) within my captivate course. I am wondering if there is a way to accurately track the duration (in the TOC) for these videos. The duration displayed on the TOC is only for the captivate slide duration and does not include the video. Any suggestions?

Hi BubbaRB and welcome to the forums.  I love it when people have great questions regarding integration.. and this is an area that Adobe Captivate needs to be better at!  It would be nice if the stock web page widget in Cp 7 had the ability to substitute Cp user variables in the URL to make for dynamic rendering of the web page, but unfortunately that's a limitation of the stock widget.
The web page widget on CaptivateDev.com is capable of variable substitution in the URL.  You just need to enclose the variable with double dollar signs $$cpQuizInfoStudentID$$.
    http://captivatedev.com/2012/08/07/adobe-captivate-6-x-widget-web-page-widget/
This widget works for SWF and HTML5 output for Cp 6 and 7 and there's a free trial available.

  • Web Object Widget non-functional?

    Hello again!
So I'm trying to use the web object widget to pull up a surveygizmo survey (which provides handy web links, HTML embeds, java embeds etc.), but it's not loading up. It works only when in previews within Captivate. Once published, it does not work. I have tested it both in our LMS (Cornerstone), and on SCORM Cloud. I've gone even further to change it to the default Bing.com to see if I can even bring anything up with the web object and again tested it on SCORM cloud and even Bing.com wouldn't come up.
Am I doing something wrong, missing something necessary to make the web object widget to work? I've published in both HTML5, SWF, and a SWF/HTML5 combo. Any help would be great! Thanks!

This seems like a similar question - http://forums.adobe.com/message/6142119#6142119
I haven't run into the problem you have, but it sounds like it won't show any Web site once you've published, right?
Is there perhaps some issue with the LMS? Or are you saying it also does not work when you upload it to SCORM Cloud?
I recall I ran into a problem with a Web Object when I had checked off the "Scalable HTML content" during publishing. I don't remember the specific issue, but there was a problem with that.
    Best of luck!

  • Web Object Widget and replacing Variables in the URL

I am using the new Web Object Widget in Captivate 7 and need some help with setting up the URL for the widget correctly.  If I hard-code a static web page address, the widget works fine.  The problems comes up when I need to slightly change the tail-end of the web address depending on who is taking the course.
I need to dynamically append some variable information onto the web address that we will be calling such as:
    http://www.someplace.com/customizeforstudent.htm?Student_Name=$$studentName$$&Student_ID=$$studentId$$
Is there any way to dynamically load the variable information into this widget when the student takes the course?
I know that I was able to use the samples on captivatedev.com to do this web page variable replacement when I used JavaScript on a button so I know it can be done that way.
    (see: http://captivatedev.com/2013/08/08/javascript-solution-launch-a-url-with-captivate-variabl es-as-parameters/ )
The down-side of the captivatedev.com example is that it forces the web page to show up "outside" the course (either in a new window or it takes over the browser window the course is playing in.  I want to use the web object widget so I can stay "within" the normal flow of the course we are developing.
I have been able to get the student name and student id from our LMS using JavaScript (thanks again to http://captivatedev.com).
Whatever process we come up with needs to work not only with Flash, but also HTML5.
    Thank you for your time.
