  • Problem Playing AVI Files From Adobe Classroom In A Book

    Hiya,
I just bought the Adobe Classroom In A Book for Premiere Pro CS4.  However, when I try to run Lesson 1, Premiere Pro appears to be having a cow with the AVI file needed for the project.  It tells me that the codec is missing or unavailable.  I'm using a MacBook Pro on Leopard and, according to the updater agent, I'm up-to-date.  Has anyone tried this book?  And run into problems?  Any solutions to offer me?  This is driving me bonkers!
    Please and thank you!

Hm-m, the DV-Type II's *should* play fine in QT. At least they do with QT on my PC. Adobe is usually pretty good at getting their CiaB assets X-platform. Wonder what's going on here. I think that this is the third thread on CiaB assets not playing on a Mac. Odd indeed, and probably just a "mess up" on someone at Adobe Press.
Had similar with a Painter 3.0 book, years ago. The author had to send me 11 CD's before we found one that had the PC files on it. All the rest were Mac-only and she was really pissed at her publishing house. However, she hung in there, and we got it sorted out.

  • I am working with ADOBE  "Classroom in a Book," with a supplied DVD. I have downloaded all the lessons, and in Lesson 5 I am able to find only (05A) but not 05B, 05C, 05D, and 05E.  My disc seems not to have those...only 05A. I need your help?.

QUESTION: I am working with ADOBE 'Classroom in a Book" with the supplied DVD.  I have copied all t he Lessons to my hard drive, and have completed Lessons 1-4. However, in LESSON 5, my disc shows me ONLY one of t he 5 examples shown in the book.  I see ONLY "05a," BUT not the following which are in the book: 05B, 05C, 05D, and 05E.  I need help to work with lesson #5.

See who published the book and contact that web site. There should be a place to download files pertaining to the book.

  • I am working with Adobe 'Classroom in a book' and it's asking me for 'write access' when saving.

I am working with Adobe 'Classroom in a book' and it's asking me for 'write access' when saving.
    How do I do that.
I tried going to file >get info and it would not allow me to unlock.
    How do I do that?

It sounds like the folder you are saving to does not have the proper permission for you to write to it. What OS are you using?

  • Adobe Classroom in a book file won't open anymore

I have a Framemaker 7 Classroom in a book file that won't open anymore. I purchased in in 2006
and it's worked for years. There is no error message. I keep getting redirected to Adobe Digital Editions website. So I've installed the Adobe Digital Editions software and still no luck. I spent 2 hours on the phone this morning with Adobe support and their final conclusion is they don't support this issue.
Anyone have any ideas? All my other pdf's open with out any trouble. Some of them are ancient.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Classroom in a Book - Automated Editing to Markers

I am trying to learn Adobe Premiere in a class right now and we are using "Adobe Premiere Pro Classroom in a Book" as our text.
On page 139, it is talking about automated editing to markers and no matter what I do, I cannot get the results that the book is talking about.
I followed all the instructions to the letter:
Open the sequence Sunset Mortgage in the sequences bin.
Set the Timeline at the beginning and play the sequence.
Press the M key to add the markers to the beat of the music.
Set the Timeline to the beginning.
In the Project window, select all the Sunset images
Press the "Automate To" button make the setting match the same as the book.
I did all this and it still does not work. This is happening on the Mac I have at school as well as my Windows 7 machine at home.
    Ideas?
I included two image. The first one is a screencap of my Automate To sequence (which is the same as the book) and the 2nd one is the Timeline window, showing what happened.

I'm not 100% why what you are doing is not working, but I can say the following steps work great in CS5 w/ Win7 64 bit:
    1) Use the Asterisk key on the number keypad to mark the "beats" of the soundtrack
    2) Drag and drop a folder of images or clips onto the "Automate to sequecence" icon
    3) The same pop-up "Automate to Sequence" menu you show will come up; I use:
    - Ordering = Sort order
    - placement = At unnumbered markers
    - method = Insert Edit
Also note that your photos or clips need to have a longer duration than where they are being inserted or there will be gaps
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Unknown File Type for Adobe Classroom in a Book Fireworks

I am trying to open sand_river1.jpg cited on p. 74 of Adobe Fireworks Classroom in a Book and am getting a "Could not open file" and "unknown file type" despite the fact that the image is displaying as a thumbnail in the file browser.  I get the message on both Windows and Mac Fireworks CS6.  Is it possible these publication assets were not part of Adobe's QA regression?  Anyway:
    - I'd rather not try to fix this myself since it's an Adobe product and I can wait.
    - has this problem been corrected?
    - is there an errata site for the book?  When I search on Google I am just sent to Amazon and bittorrent.
    thanks

A quick Google search for that file name confirmed the issue here, and a fixed version for chapter 4 can be downloaded at http://www.jimbabbage.ca/_files/ch4files.zip

  • Pictures and video not showing in lesson 9 of Adobe Classroom in a Book

I have been doing all the lessons in the book and everything is fine until lesson 9 where I get the "Media offline" note instead of video and pictures.  How can I fix this?  I must have changed some setting by mistake.

It looks like I fixed the problem of the offline video clips. Something strange though. I found my lessons located in BOTH of the following paths: C: Users / Dan / My Documents / Adobe / Premiere Pro / 6.0 / Lessons. AND: Libraries / Documents / Adobe / Premiere Pro / 6.0 / Lessons. I don't know how the lessons got in the Libraries path. I copied the Lessons to the C: Users / Dan /... path only.  What I did was when the dialog box showed up asking where the file is, I clicked the drop-down arrow and found it in the "Libraries" path and then the video finally showed up in my project instead of saying "offline".  I wonder if there is a way for the files to NOT also copy to the Library path in addition to my intended path?
Thanks so much for taking the time to help!

  • Adobe classroom in a books suck

here's the problem. i want a step-by-step guide, and other
than the 'cheating in' there aren't. i hate when programmers get
together with corperate sponsored educators and produce some bunk
piece of crap that essencially makes it only more difficult to
understand the basics. i would love to see a glossary, and an intro
to the basics without having deal some three-hundred page trek in
to building some bland and useles mock-site. i don't have time for
that, especially considering how much these yearly up-sells cost.
and don't get me started on that geek inspired web elitist piece of
crap called dreamweaver that killed web building for the common ape
that has more things to do than take a step backward from golive. i
do have a life other than the "interweb y'all." thanks for letting
me purchase an over priced product that has taken my productivity
to an all time low adobe. hope you enron out all a dat cash.

    Open your Flash Help Guide.
To find a 'glossary' of every class in Flash goto:
    Flash Help>>ActionScript Language
    Guide>>ActionScript Classes
Oh and btw- there's a clickable index.
Also several very simple, basic tutorials on each subject,
and code samples of almost everything in the classes.

  • Loading lesson files from Adobe Classroom in a Book

    Hi Guys,
My first day out on Premiere Elements 12 and following the instructions in my Book religiously.
At the very start, the lessons file for the very first lesson do not load - though I have followed it repeatedly.
This is my introduction to Premiere Elements!
    HELP
    Tx
    Glen

While I do not recall the exact details now, Peachpit Press, the publisher of CiaB series, has admitted that there is/was a file, or two, that were corrupt. Their workaround was to load another version (appear in later exercises, and were not corrupt in the "later" version). I do not recall the exact file(s) involved, but seem to remember that at least one was a "Greenscreen" file.
Glad that you have found a workaround for the CiaB exercises.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • ADOBE classroom in a book flaw. chapter 12 in photoshop CIAB looses components of the project while combining layers.

it is the wine glass that dissapears.

Ask in the Photoshop forum and be more specific along with providing proper technical info like what version of PS you use, your system etc.. Layers don't simply disappear, you may have missed a step or used a wrong setting.

  • .avi on Mac from Classroom in a Book DVD

I'm new to Premiere Pro and teaching myself. One book I'm using is the Adobe Classroom in a Book Premiere Pro CS5, which has a sticker on it stating that it has "Free CS5.5 bonus content."
I'm trying to import one of the lesson files that is an AVI file but PP gives me a File Import Failure for this one file (MPEGs imported with no problems) stating "Codec missing or unavailable."
I opened the file in MPEG Streamclip and exported it using "Apple Photo - JPEG" compression. It imports just fine now.
My question: Has this happened to anyone else? Is this a one-time fluke or can I expect that other files on the CIB DVD may also require conversion to work on Mac?
    Thanks.

Todd, thank you for the response. There were a few things going on, mainly about files that were not yet up at the Peachpit website specifically for the CS5.5 version of the book/files. In addition, there were some proofreading issues in the CS5.5 EPUB that is downloadable.
I received an email from someone at Peachpit who explained what was going on and pointed me to a link for downloading the updated files (4 or 5 GB of them). I've put them on my system, but haven't had a chance to use them yet.
So, with that background, I'll tell you about my system:
Mac Pro (MacPro3,1) with 2 2.8 Ghz Quad-Core Xeon processors, 10 GB RAM, and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 supporting two 1920 x 1080 LCDs. I'm running OS X 10.6.8 and QuickTime 7.6.6 as well as QuickTime 10.0. Final Cut Studio 7 has been my editor of choice, but with the release of FCP X I decided to purchase the Master Collection CS5.5 and learn PP and AE. (I work at a University and got a discounted price for the MC so I decided to upgrade my Design Collection CS4.)
My apologies for WTMI (way TMI). Give me some time to get through the newly downloaded stuff from Peachpit. If I'm still having issues I'll post again. Thanks again for your offer to help.

  • Unexplained code in "Classroom in a Book" on AS3

I'm slowly going through the Adobe "Classroom in a Book" on
ActionScript. Every now and then the sample code includes what
appears to be a property "e" as in "function doThis (
    e:mouseEvent)" or "var rbg:RadioButtonGroup =
    e.target as RadioButtonGroup;"
What is "e", and when should one use it?
    Thanks.

From the description you give, that "e" is in my opinion by
    99% an event variable/object.
    function (e:Event) { trace(e); } // defines 'e' as an object
    of type Event.
The same way you can write:
    function (myvariable:Event) { trace(myvariable); } or
    function (microEvent:Event) { trace(microEvent); } or
    whatever.
In each case that means that the function take one argument
    of type Event.
Depending the case, you can use MouseEvent type, IOErrorEvent
etc. etc. Each type of event contains different information. But
all events contain i.e. the target property to find out from where
    the event started.
I also always use variable 'e' for defining event variables
    to handler functions. Because:
    a) 'e' is to short to type :P
    b) doesn't require any time to think it's name in order to be
    appropriate to the code :P
    c) that kind of variable is very common in use. Every event
handler function have one such variable.
Thus why to use any other names to describe them, except from
just the fast, easy, understandable 'e'? :P
I.e. Suppose you have write a code with 20 event handlers
    like:
    function check_sex(e:Event) { if (e.target.name="woman") {
    UseAMan();} else { UseAWoman();} }
    function ioerror_handle(e:IOEventEvent) { e.target.Reload();
    trace (e.text); }
    function on_progress(e:ProgressEvent) { slider.width =
    e.bytesLoaded/e.bytesTotal; } etc
You can easily use any other variable name instead of 'e'.
However if you do that, you will type much more letters + the code
might be a bit more confusing to understand for someone else!....
    :P lol... :D I gotta to sleep.. 'e'e'e'ee....
