Adobe color profile looks bad

Hello,
I have a weird problem that I really don't understand:
When I open pictures in lightroom, by default Adobe Standard is used. But every time there is highlight, image became very dirty, even if I edit tones. With Camera profiles, it looks a way better. But I prefer Adobe profile for the rest of the colors, and I'm sad of thinking I can't use it.
Could someone explain me what happens, if I do something wrong, and how to put Camera profile by default if it is its normal behavior.
I take pictures with a Canon 60D (raw), and here you can see an example of what it looks like (all parameters are set to defaults) :
Thank you

Something looks wrong there; that's a horrible rendering.  I suspect it's a bug and Adobe may want to get a look at some of your RAW files to see what's going on.

  • IPhoto fix that worked for me (Coregraphics & Adobe Color Profiles issues)

Ok, I posted a few days back in reference to getting help with my iPhoto. I do apologize on the fact this is quite the long post but maybe it will be easy to understand for those who are like me and not all that computer literate. I searched all the discussions and used all the different advice from different people but had no luck. I was able to FINALLY get iPhoto up and running again last night after doing just a few simple things. Please note that this may not work for everyone. Also please note that I AM NOT an expert in dealing with computers and working with computers. It's just that my ADD kicks in when something needs fixing and I won't stop till its finished. Below are a few lines from the crash report that I was getting each time I attempted to open iPhoto from my Macbook Pro Late 2011 running 10.8.3.

-Run and attempt to repair any Color Profiles that may need to be fixed. There were 4 that could not be fixed for me. Locate these profiles and move them to your desktop (Note: I was still able to open and use all applications in my Adobe CS6 Master Collection after moving these profiles but you may want to check just to be sure if you are using Adobe).
-Even though I had done this many times, run the Disk Utility App in your Utilities Profile and Verify and Repair any permission needed (For me, I had none at this time that needed to be repaired).
-Next, I did an Apple Hardware Test. For me and the model Macbook Pro I am using, I had to restart my computer and when the screen went black for me at restart about the time the start up sound is about to come on, I pressed ALT-D. On some models you just have to press D. I did disconnect everything prior to doing this except the power cord and the Internet. I did a full AHT test that took about an hour or so. If you get an error code, be sure and right it down whereas your issue may be something different than mine and this will not apply to you. There were no problems from the test and then restarted the computer.
-At restart I decided to get into the OS X Recovery by pressing Command-R to either start from scratch or find some other way to fix the issue because I was tired of racking my brain on this and was about to throw the computer in to the wall.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 For help or questions on the OS X Recovery Process
-Once in the OS X Recovery from the Mac OS X Utilities Pane, I selected reinstall and then I selected my current Hard Drive. Luckily by doing this (not that I was aware or anything, but none of my files or folders were deleted and it only reinstalled Mountain Lion and whatever else it needed)
-This process took about an hour and once finished, I restarted my computer
-I logged back in to my account but did not attempt iPhoto at this time. Instead I immediately checked to make sure that 10.8.3 was what was reinstalled back on my Mac. I then checked for Software Updates which I had a few and installed these updates.
-I then went back to the Disk Utilities App from my Utilities folder and Verified the Disk and Disk Permission. To my surprise, many of the files that were in the iPhoto crash thread (posted above) were now showing up as needing to be repaired. I repaired what needed to be repaired.
-I verified all my Color Profiles to make sure none were showing up again (which there were none that needed to be repaired)
-I did a check check of some Adobe CS6 Apps just to verify they were opening and working correctly
-I restarted my Mac (Once again) and logged back in. I opened up iPhoto and everything worked and is working PERFECTLY. I then re-connected my printers and my Time Machine and performed a back up before importing photos back in to iPhoto. I DO WISH NOW THOUGH THAT I HADN'T DELETED AND RE-INSTALLED IPHOTO but it is nice being able to start over and organize iPhoto a little better than before.
I am sorry this is such a long post but for people like me who are not professionals in the computer department, sometimes it's good to "dumb" things done so that us "average joes" can understand a little better. Hopefully this will work for those who are having issues like mine. Thanks for all the help from everyone from my previous posts.

    Tom:
To help prevent loss like you experienced see the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Same color profile looks different on different users

My main user account displays colors differently than the other accounts I have on my iMac. I've eliminated all custom Colorsync profiles from the Library folders of the user accounts, so all users are using the standard iMac profile. There is a very clear difference when viewing the same TIFF or Photoshop files with the same applications but from different user accounts. For what it's worth, my main account displays much higher contrast than the other accounts.
I'm not sure what is making my main account behave differently from the others, but I'd like to get rid of it. (I removed two com.apple.ColorSync*.plist files from my main account Preferences folder, but this had no effect.) Anyone have any ideas?

    Hello.
You may well be better off asking in the Panther forums as the users there may have more specific ColorSync experience.
In the meantime have a read of this article about using ColorSync First Aid.

  • Bad color profiles on B8850

posted in another forum but thought I'd try here before I lose my mind trying to figure this out...
I think perhaps my color profiles are bad?  Here's the situation:
    1) printed a color wheel image on plain paper to test what colors I'm having problems with, and everything looked fine.
    2) printed the same color wheel on photo paper and the oranges are just dead, really grey looking, but the rest of the colors are fine.
So, seems like the question is why are my photos not printing correctly on photo paper but do on plain paper?  Any ideas or suggestions?  Bad color profiles or something for the HP Photo Paper?
I'm losing my mind trying to figure this out.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
    cheers,
    Aaron

Every type of paper accepts ink a little differently. If there is a setting that matches that particular paper right in the driver preferences available, I would try that. However, if that is what you are using, then try a different selection, or go into the color management tab (depending on operating system, drivers installed basic versus full) and adjust colors that way to improve the output on that media.

  • Colorsync fail to fix color profiles under Adobe folder

    Thanks,

I think I found the problem..
Colorsync somehow opened an image I downloaded from (123rf.com) and kept the application open in my application bar at the background.
I think that caused the hustle.
After quitting Colorsync - problem solved.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Color profile problems and text issues

    hello all!
recently, after installing the java update i ran across some permissions problems when doing a permissions repair.
these java permissions seem to be the result of database updates and are fairly innocuous.
however, since then, my color profiles are screwed up. things look horrible. some pictures are fine, some bad. at first i thought it was just safari, but it's system wide. i've tried repairing permissions again but to no effect. i've downloaded the profiles from adobe and copied them into the profiles directory in library. no effect.
some profiles show up twice on the list. when i select, for instance, the second listing, the selection moves to the first listing. do you follow?
when i run the profile first aid this is what i get:

any suggestions would be most welcome. possibly help on reverting to the earlier java would be nice..don't know if that'll help but it started back then.
    thank you!

okay, a boot up into safe mode and everything looks great, the way it should. everything looks awesome in another user account too.
so, it user specific. i've discovered these issues affect safari and not firefox. images in ff look fine.
if there are font or profile issues, how do i go about finding what might be broken in my main user account?
can i just transfer everything to a new user account? what are the steps involved?
    thanks again for any help!

  • How do I export a file with a CMYK color profile in Lightroom?

I'm trying to save a photo with a CMYK color profile to send to a company who will print it for me. I've looked at the color profiles installed on my computer, and quite a few CMYK profiles appear to be there (in   /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/Recommended). I'm not sure if they need to be in the "Profiles" folder specifically, or if it matters that they're in a subfolder of that folder. This is on a Mac computer, by the way.
The problem is, when I go to export in Lightroom, and I choose "Other" in Color Profile, I'm not given any of the CMYK options.
    Thanks for your help!

Above and beyond what Jeff and John have told you, be VERY careful converting RGB to CMYK unless you have the specific ICC profile for that print provider. Probably a lot safer to send them tagged RGB and let them convert the data. Converting with a profile that isn't specifically targeted for the print process will produce huge headache's for you and the shop and potentially awful output which is going to be expensive. Ask them if they can accept RGB and send them maybe sRGB which of course you can do from Lightroom.

  • Converting RGB to DNG without affecting color profiles

    Hi guys
I'm working with the DNG SDK in C++ for some time now.  I need to be able to take a raw RGB (not camera raw) and convert it into a dng file.  After playing arond with it for a few days, I realized creating the camera profile drastically affects the resulting dng image.
I can't seem to produce a dng file that was identical to the input source.  My picture appears very washed out and I end up using the adobe color profiler to try to bring the image back close to it's original color.
I'm trying to find a way to produce dng files without the need to affect the colors in any way, the resulting picture should be bit identical to that of the raw RGB input file.
I'm not even sure if I can do this considering the usage of the dng format.
    UPDATE
I've realized that my program is loading the RGB buffer into the fData of the stage3 image object.  I have a feeling I need stages1 and 2 but i'm unsure if I need to and if so, then i will probaby need a source DNG to produce those stage1 and stage2 unless I can get stage1 or 2 from stage 3 (appears it works vice versa).
I'm able to do the reverse (DNG to RGB raw) by extracting the buffer from the stage3 render.  but in this case, all the metadata has been filled in by the input DNG. However, going from RGB to DNG, I don't have the metadata to fill into stage 1 and 2.

My understanding of the JPG is only middling. I thought I understood that it uses anchor pixels and either a translation table of some sort or difference mapping, using 8 bits per piece of information.
If that were the case, surely changing the translation from CMYK to RGB would be fairly simple.
In this case, the usage is Ebay and they only accept JPG, PNG (and maybe BMP and GIF, I didn't look that closely), but require RGB. I was actually quite surprised to find that JPG allows CMYK since, as you say, anyone dealing with CMYK is going to be dealing with commercial printing and few people who deal with commercial printing would play around with JPG.
I always stick to TIFF or PSD for workflow, but JPG is popular for a reason - when it comes to web, JPG is the only format that can deliver manageable file sizes with full-screen or "large" images for web. Our top level banner photo is 2590x692 and needs to be under 400kb for sane download speeds. PNG couldn't touch that. Even with the aforementioned 1800x1200, PNG is nearly 2mb, while I can maintain very decent quality with a 500kb file with JPG that works well for 'zoom in' type usage.
So there's no way around JPG. It's just annoying that the first person to touch a random selection of the pics was primarily an Illustrator user and saved *some* of the pics in CMYK mode.
It's like that old story about the farmer who didn't want anyone to steal his watermelons, so he cleverly posted a sign "None of these watermelons are poisoned", only to find a note the next day saying "Now, One of these watermelons is...".
Far more work to fix 'some' of the images compared to just doing it right the first time.
But then again, for workers like that, if you can't trust them with an easy job, you could hardly trust them with more complicated jobs...

  • Color profiles not shown on colorsync

    Hello...
I have been looking for a solution to this issue for the last 2 weeks without success... may be somebody knows about it ?
Using Mac Os 10.4.11 on an Intel based Mac recently formatted (with the original cd), the color profiles existing on the folder user/library/colorsync or hd/library/colorsync does not appear on the ColorSync utility, under "profiles". So, basicaly, the ColorSync utility does not show any profile by selecting  "profiles" and, of course, clicking the little triangle.
As I was not able to see the icc profiles installed with the printer driver on the print dialog on photoshop, I  get the profiles on hd/library/printers/epson/inkjet printer/icc profiles, right click on the model and "show content", and then included them in hd/library/application Support/adobe/color/profiles.
By doing this, I´m able to use that profiles printing from photoshop. But I´m not happy at all with the solution, as colorsync is still not working as it must be.
Now, I´m trying to calibrate the monitor. And after calibrating, the profile created on -system preferences---display---color----claibrate-, is not shown under "display profile" on that application.  I think this is part of the same problem.
Is there an expert able to give me a hand on this? How can fix it, in order to see the profiles on Colorsync, found them on photoshop and also create display profiles??

OK, we're making progress, it just seems to be some User setting/pref file, trouble is, while most are in the User's Library>Prefs, not all are.
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ColorSyncDeviceList.<12 digitHexNumber>.plist
(There may be more than one of the above to move)
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ColorSyncUtility.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ColorSyncCalibrator.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ColorSync.Droplet.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • How do I load a color profile onto my CS3?

My printer has requested that I work in CYMK, GRACol2006_coated1v2.icc color setting.  I can't find it on my list of profiles.  My printer has sent me the file.  How do I get it into my pull down list?
    Thanks in advance.

Profiles need to be added via Windows's color management. Put the profile in C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Driver\Color along where the other profiles are and it should show up as a printer profile. You can also put them in Adobe's color folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Profiles.

  • Color profile changes after I login but I can't find the original profile

After I login but before everything loads, my color profile looks perfect. But then it looks like the color profile switches and everything gets a little too dark (not brightness, contrast). I go look at my color profiles and cycle through them, but nothing matches what I initially saw. I've unchecked the "Show only profiles for this display" and those don't match either. Is there a way to find out why/when/how that profile switches and what it's using before the switch?

If none of the previous suggestions work for you then try the following as a last resort:
    System Preferences>Display>Display
Check the Colors & Brightness settings.
My Color setting is set to Millions which I believe is the default setting.
Now click on the Color button.
    Check Display Profile
Is Show profiles for this display only enabled or disabled?
If necessary click on the Calibrate button & do the necessary.
Now in the bottom right corner, click on the purple button w/the black ? mark in the middle. This will bring up the help window.
Midway down, click on the Colorsync Utility link.
The next window should be Profile First Aid.
Read & follow the instructions/details of About Profile First Aid: & do the necessary to Verify & Repair.

  • Default sRGB color profile

It appears that when 'Don't Color Manage This Document' is selected from the 'Assign Profile' dialog that the profile defaults to 'sRGB IEC61966-2.1'. Correct? Is this the profile that is in 'Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Profiles\Recommended\sRGB Color Space Profile.icm' ?

Just want to add this, because there is a lot of misunderstanding about this:
The working space profile is not directly used for onscreen display.
Working space is the colorspace where image processing calculations are done.
When the image is displayed, then it is converted from working space profile into the monitor's profile which is taken from window's colormanagement preferences. Then it is copied to the display buffer and is displayed.
So photoshop needs to have some (eventually default) profile to convert into monitor colorspace for display.

  • Install color profile

    Hi there,
How do I install new color profiles? I'm developing on an OS X Server and I need to export PDFs with specific color profiles. I copied the new profiles to "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles" and created a joboptions file, that uses the new profile. However it seems that the InDesign Server is unable to locate the new profiles (even after server restart). The exported PDFs have all the same default color profile. So, how do I export PDFs with custom color profiles?

  • Terrible magenta "splotchiness" in Leica M9 files with Adobe Standard profile?

Anyone seen issues with the Adobe Standard profile and bad magenta casts in shadows with the M9?  Here's a shot (low light) with the Adobe profile and with the "embedded" profile, you can see on the bridge of the nose and around the side of the nose it's pretty bad.  Is the Adobe Standard profile supposed to be usable in these situations?

I have just found this post while in search of a solution for a similar problem. I have the M9 also. At the base 160 ISO I have the same effect visible in very specific mid-shadowed skin-toned areas on four frames in a row but cannot detect it at all in surrounding areas nor another 60 or so frames in same location and lighting. Previously I had only noted this rarely in a couple of shadowed areas and it appears to be limited to very specific planes in one area of the shots. I have eliminated the possibilities of evironmental reflection or actual discoluration of the subject (fingers). WB has been set from a Colorchecker and Whibal card in a frame at same time and location.
May I please send an original DNG to you for comment?
