Adobe Community Help Doesn't Work

For some reason, the help pages don't work, either in Photoshop CS5 Extended (12.0.4) or in Bridge (4.0.5.11).  When I go to Help>Photoshop help (or Bridge help), I get the Adobe Community Help Page, but nothing on the right side of the page works.  I can try to click on any link and nothing happens.  (I am signed in, but that didn't matter.)  I can only eanter a search request on the left and get search responses.
I was prompted earlier in the day to update Adobe Help with a thing called "airappinstaller".  Adobe Community Help "about" page says I have version 3.5.0.23 and that my help is "up to date."  I tried restarting  but it still doesn't work.  What's up?

After installing the Adobe Air update I can reproduce the problem with Photoshop CS5 standard 12.0.4 on Windows 7 x64, Steve.
The cursor changes to a finger when I hover over the links in the right pane, but nothing in particular happens when they're left-clicked.
I can right-click a link and choose open in new tab.  That does in fact open the selected page in a new tab.
I can click the link in the upper-right and the page opens in Internet Explorer 9, at which point all the links work, no problem.
I can see the Air installation was successful in the Windows Application log, but no error or other message is logged when I attempt unsuccessfully to use it.
I'm going to try logging off and on again.  Edit:  Nope, that didn't help anything.
No modifier keys get a left-click to do anything.
The Back button works.
I get a pop-up menu when I click on Welcome, Noel Carboni, but clicking on any of the entries does nothing.
I can click in the Black Search field at the upper right, and it puts a cursor there.  I can type and when I hit enter the search causes the page to change.
When I hit the Home button all the little Ps etc. icons appear, and if I click on one it takes me to the page.
It seems like only the left-click function for navigating on text links is broken.
Anything else you'd like me to check?
-Noel

  • Community Help doesn't work in ID5.5

A couple of the new 5.5 apps can't get to their online help. They return an Access Denied msg.
I believe the apps themselves store the appropriate link to Adobe Community Help, so I'd like to check that this link hasn't somehow become corrupted.
Does anyone know where this link (if it exists) gets installed? I have rummaged around in the file system, but without success.
    I'm on Win7.
    Thanks in advance,
    Allen

Here's the solution, from Mark Nichoson on the Community Help forum:
Hi: I deeply apologize for this  issue. We have identified the cause and have pushed an immediate fix.   To correct the issue, please follow the steps outlined in this  document:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/902/cpsid_90284.html
Here's  the root cause:  the Help application relies on a small XML file called  the Help Configuration file. This file tells the application where to  find and download the latest content.  Unfortunately, this file was  accidentally pushed with a staging address (help.stage.adobe.com) rather  than the final production URL (help.adobe.com).  There is a separate  file for each point product and the Help application will automatically  check for a new version on start up. However, to be absolutely safe/sure  that you have the correct set of files, please follow the instructions  outlined in the knowledgebase document above.
Again, our  sincerest apologies for this issue. We are implementing new  checks/processes to ensure that this does not happen again.
All the affected apps now show their community help correctly.

  • Sanity Check Please:  mx and Spark Component documentation missing in Adobe Community Help

    Hi -
I'm not able to get to the mx or spark component documentation in the Adobe Help (called Adobe Community Help in the title bar).
For example, when I select "Packages" at the top I don't see the mx or spark packages either in the Package sidebar or the main Package area.  Also, if I scroll down in the Classes area I can't find either a "Button" class or a "Form" class, for example.
Are you seeing something different?  Thanks

Thanks, but I think there is something messed up with the documentation, as the link you gave me doesn't work in the lastest Firefox browser either -- i.e. I get no list of the spark classes.  It also unfortunately doesn't work in the Adobe Community Help Application.  I can get it to work in another browser, but I'm seeing other bugs / problems:
       1) the navigation at the top right, e.g.  Properties | Methods | Events | Styles | Skin Parts | Skin States | Effects | Constants | Examples,
is pushed off the right hand of the page, in all browsers I've tried
       2) when I click on a given Class in the "All Classes" view, it changes from the "All Classes" view to only listing the classes that are in the package along with the class you selected (a pain to browser the different classes available, as one constantly leaves the top level package/class view)

  • Remove old Applications from Adobe Community Help

With PSE9, Adobe Community Help was installed for the first time on my computer. As I have installed PSE9 before uninstalling PSE8, and afterwards uninstalled PSE8, I now see PSE8 and PSE9 in Adobe Community Help Client.
How can I get rid of applications no longer installed in the Adobe Community Help Client?

Mark, Iam using 3.5.0.23 which states it is completely up to date.
After removing the old CS5 suite and upgrading to CS5.5 I can report that ALL of the old community help for the old suite is STILL present along side the new documentation.
Although there is an option in "Local Content" to delete old documentation, this list does not correlate AT ALL to the documentation from the old suite listed in "Download Prefferences".
It isn't really relevent whether or not the old documentation listed in this section is downloaded or not. The annoying thing is that it's STILL listed. (In my case I had to go through and untick ALL of the old applications documentation).
Example "Adobe Media Encoder CS5" unticked, "Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5" ticked etc. etc.
This bias that your talking about obviously doesn't appear to work. The old documentation is still listed in "Download Preferences". Those options in the download section of the Adobe Community Help application should have been removed when I uninstalled the old CS5 suite (obviously an ommition). So something should be implemented in the Adobe Community Help application to enable users to "not see" those options if they do not have the relevent applications or suites installed. (They shouldn't really have to go through this list deciding which ones to tick and which ones to untick... after the suite is uninstalled, these options still remain ticked and continue to update along side the new applications causing a slow down of the community help application while it indexes the files and another burden on disk space and fragmentation and bandwidth). The help for an entire "master suite" is quite substantial. It really doesn't need to be duplicated in this way.

How do I get my music from Media Center to my iphone 4s. Itunes 10.5 won't import the MC music library, and MC won't recognize and synch to the iphone plugged into the USB port so I can't load playlists from MC to my iphone. Itunes help doesn't work.

Hello and welcome to the support community
As you know, your iPhone 5 is not compatible with our iBook G4. To get your music in iTunes from your iBook to your iPhone you would need to migrate the music files to a newer intel based Mac. A Mac which has Mac OS X 10.6 or higher installed. Then sync your iPhone 5.

  • Updating Adobe Community Help files fails every time after starting

    Hello,
I e.g. go to «Support Center for Photoshop» from the menu within the app. Adobe Community Help starts up and tells me theres new content, do I want to download that. It seems to start the dl just fine, then reports an error «16882» (if I'm remembering it right).
Why? We have very fast very broadband internet connection and I use a 2011 27" iMac with max Gig RAM installed.
Any hints there would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Mister Kapoor,

Seems Adobe Air or Cummunity help has gone cprrupt. Lets follow the below suggestions:
Step 1: Uninstall adobe air from Utilities and re-install the latest adobe AIR from "http://get.adobe.com/air/otherversions/"
Step 2: Follow "http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/842/cpsid_84215.html" and re-install the Community Help Air application.
Step 3: Restart the machine and launch adobe Community Help and try to install all the updates and check if it works fine.
    Hope that Helps!.

  • How can one deactivate adobe community help for indesign?

    Hello everyone.
It seems that everytime I touch a wrong key on the keyboard or do an action Indesign judge not conform, Indesign opens the Adobe Community help software. This takes me away from my ongoing work, bring me to a new window and makes the computer relatively slow for all the time it is loading. It is rather annoying and I tried to deactivate it but never found where and how.
Does anyone here knwos where to deactivate adobe comnunity help. I cannot stad to have this application open each time I wrong click or miss pres a key like delete/end/page down/etc. on my keyboard. It is absolutely counter productive.
    Thank you for you help.

Never heard of this before ....
Are you using the Wireless keyboard ? What is your OS ?
Do you get the same problem when working in Selective start up on Windows and Safe boot on Mac ?
I don't think there is a way to turn off the help option in any application , it is in-built , however you can switch the Accesbility mode from Community help application  to Browser
Also can restrict the application to look for local help (fownloaded) rather then looking it online.
This is can be down via Adobe Help community help application preferences.

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

What does the Adobe test page say?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

  • Error while creating my first  project on SP15 and why Help doesn't work?

    Hello sdnrs,

I have 2 problems creating my first webdynpro project.
1.When I go to file-new-project-webdynpro->(enter name)->next ,  I have windows poped up with the following error:

    class: com.sap.ide.webdynpro.archivebuilder.project.WebDynproStandaloneProjectWizard
    Method: createJavaProject(IProject, IProgressMonitor)
Message: Problems encountered while setting project description.
Exeption: org.eclipse.core.runtime.CoreException: Problems encountered while setting project description.
I am frustrated cause I can't do any step futher...! Is there any special settings on the SDK, Window-Preferences, etc?
2.My Help doesn't work at all - it used to be (with SP11 slim) when i go - 'Help-SAP was docum-SAP webdynpro appl ' and I had my help window poped up.Now I dont have anything!
    Thank you much in advance!
    Bob

For your information there's another solution if you don't wanna reinstall your NDS or if the reinstallaion doesn't work.
The error is in the resources so you have to replace some plugin resources to correct the error. Because of that you need access to the resources from somewhere else.
    1. Go to c:\Documents and Settings\"username"\Documents\SAP\workspace\.metadata\.plugins and replace org.eclipse.core.resources with a "working" resource
    2. Go to C:\Program Files\SAP\JDT\eclipse\plugins and replace org.eclipse.core.resources.win32_2.1.0 and org.eclipse.core.resources_2.1.1 with a "working" resource.
Restart NDS and it ought to work
    Best regards,
    Ole Mose

  • Error message in trying to use local content in Adobe Community Help of Flash Builder

    Hi,
I have set my Adobe Community Help application preferences of Flash Builder to 'Display local content only'.to Yes.
I also disabled my internet connection to use local help content only.
I get the following error message when trying to access any of the links from Help home page.
To view the requested page, connect to the Internet or deselect "Display Local Help content only" in Preferences.
I understand this is due to all the links point online HTTP urls.
But why cannot the local help content be accessed when it is already downloaded to local and the 'Display local content only' option is set to Yes?
This saves me a lot ot time otherwise using Adobe Community Help is painful even for a short period of time.
    Thanks,
    Ram Manoj Kongara.

    Hi, Ram -
To help troubleshoot your problem, can you please do the following:
In the Adobe Community Help application, go to Edit > Preferences.
    Select Local Content.
The list of Help packages downloaded locally appear. Make sure that the status of every Help packages reads “Current”. If the status of a Help package reads  "Out-of-Date”, select that Help package, and click Update to download the latest Help package. Note that to do this, you have to be connected to the Internet. Once you fully download the Help packages to your desktop, you can access Help offline.
One other thing that I would want you to check is the Adobe Community Help Client version that you are using. To check that, in the Adobe Community Help application, go to File > About Adobe Help. The build version should be 3.2.0.610.
Let me know if this helps. If the issue still persists, we can investigate further.
    Thanks,
    Mallika Yelandur
    Technical writer, Adobe Flash Builder

  • What's adobe air and adobe community help?

I loaded 5.5 tonight and got a popup asking me if I'd like to install the new version of Adobe Air.  I said no thanks.  Then I clicked on the Help in 5.5, and it suggested I'd like to install a new version of Adobe Community Help.  I said okay, and then I got the popup for Adobe Air again.  When I canceled it, the upgrade to Adobe Community Help didn't complete properly.
What's Adobe Air and what's Adobe Community Help?  What's the relationship between them?

AIR is a runtime environment for running certain applications. The Adobe Community Help Client is an AIR application; it's a viewer for the Help documents.
I prefer to not use the Community Help Client application. Instead, I use the HTML version of Help in my browser or the PDF version when I'm not online.
There are direct links to the PDF and online HTML versions of the Help documents here.

Maybe Flash 11 is too big and you need to stay on Flash 10.3

  • Adobe Community Help Search - Unexpected Error?

    Adobe Photoshop Elements version 9.0.3, Win7 64bit
When I launch Photoshop Elements Help and arrive at Adobe Community Help and then enter any word in the Search box (upper left), there is no response for  several minutes, then this appears:
(An unexpected error has occurred.  Please try your search again.)
Can anyone suggest the cause, and perhaps a solution?

The cause is that the help files aren't in that location anymore. The workaround would be to download the pdf files, which you can find here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/992825?tstart=0
and use those instead of the in-program links.
