Adobe CS 2.3 won't run, uninstall or reinstall

Hello,
I have submitte a help ticket with the tech support through adobe, however their response lead me to an outdated (website no longer there) response. I was hoping that someone here might have a better response for me.
I just purchased a new computer with Windows 7. I did not realize that I had to deactivate the old computers CS programs before I in
stalled on new computer. After installing CS 2.3 on new computer and it wouldn't open for me, I realized my mistake.
I deactivated on old computer and uninstalled the entire program. I then uninstalled CS on new computer and then reinstalled.
Everytime I open Photoshop up it gives me this error:
Your Photoshop user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. the application can not continue and must now exit. The application then closes right away and doesn't let me do anything to it.
After chatting with a help person, he directed me to this article. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331799.html I attempted to do #1. The installer gave me this message:
The installer could not start because of the following reasons. Missing or invalid Personalization Information. Missing Resources Library.
I went then to uninstall and try everything again and it gives me the same message. So at this time I am unable to uninstall or try installing (to redo the serial number). I am very hesitant to try manually uninstalling because I am unsure if I am capable of finding everything that needs to be deleted. I continued to read the entire article (link above) and there was a comment in there about applications couldnot find the valid activation information (name, org. serial) because of the stall path was "C:/Program Files (x86)/Adobe" Due to the specal characters, in continued to install to that location even after I changed it to simple "C:/Program Files/ Adobe" It needs to be installed at just "C:/Adobe" and that should fix the problem. The issue with that is that I can no longer uninstall this program to see if installing under a different location will solve the issues with loading the applicat
ions. What do you suggest I try next? I have researched it some (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/314178) and I hope that I can install and get these programs working and that I haven't lost these critical programs.
Browser: Microsoft IE
Operating System: Windows 7
This was the response I received from the tech support:
Solution 1: Update your VCOM software and apply the appropriate patch.
If you use VCOM Fix-It Utilities 6 or VCOM SystemSuite 6, update your
software to the latest version before you download the appropriate patch
from VCOM.
For Fix-It Utilities, update to version 6.0.3.4 before you apply the
patch. Find the patch in article 1507 "How do I keep Registry Cleaner
from removing my Adobe registry settings?" on the VCOM website at:
http://v-com.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/avanquestusa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.p
hp?p_faqid=1507
For SystemSuite, update to version 6.0.3.6 before you apply the patch.
Find the patch in article 1506 "How do I keep Registry Cleaner from
removing my Adobe registry settings?" on the VCOM website at:
http://v-com.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/avanquestusa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.p
hp?p_faqid=1506
Also please follow all the steps which are mentioned in belwo document
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331741.html
It will open a document which says " Error: "...user name, organization,
or serial number is missing or invalid..." when you start Photoshop (CS2
on Windows) " contain all the steps to resolve your issue.
This should resolve your issue.
I went to the VCOM website and it is no longer there, therefore I cannot reference the article the tech support listed to make sure I understand what a 'registry cleaner' is and to make sure I don't ruin something on my new computer.
Can anyone give me some direction on what I should do? If I am supposed to do a 'registry cleaner' is there an article that I can reference so I don't mess anything up. I understand some stuff about computers, but registry cleaning seems to be out of my realm of understanding. Thanks for your help. Let me know if you need me to provide additional information.
Michelle

Hi Michelle,
I had the same problem with my windows 7. I have Adobe CS2 and it has given me the same message as you had. Can you tell me how to run a registery cleaner. I am not a tech person and only can design, all my projects are on hold due to this. Please help.
Thanks

    I'm using Vista.  I installed a couple weeks ago and it's been working fine until today.  On startup I keep getting the message "Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  I worked my way through most of the troubleshooting guide and when I couldn't find the preferences file to rename I figured it might be "lost" and I should just uninstall and reinstall, but that didn't fix it, it still won't start.  I really need this program and it was a lot of money (for me).  Getting frustrated!  Anyone?

    I am having the same problem and tried calling tech support was on hold for an hour and a half its

  • CS3 Won't Run, Uninstall or Deactivate, Can't Reinstall; Junked.

    Windows XP Pro SP2
    2GB Ram
    Adobe CS3 Production Premium
    Thanks to Adobe's new licensing system I have a $1700 production suite that is completely useless.
    After a few weeks of working fine, it suddenly decided, for reasons unknown, to cease working. With the exception of Acrobat Reader, no portion of CS3 suite will load, all crash out with an error during the loading process, all with what appears to be an issue related to Flexnet licensing.
    I've tried following the crazy instructions regarding removing it, but not even Windows' Add/Remov eprograms can remove it because it needs to be deactivated first, but I can't do that because I can't load any CS3 application to deactivate it.
    When I tried manually removing all traces of CS3, including all the registry hacks Adobe barbarically suggests (rather inelegant for a supposedly industry profrssional product) the reinstallation goes awry and after it finally finishes, all applications still fail because it is supposedly not activated properly.
    At this point I can only assume that the product is merely junk and that Adobe simply does not care. (they have not suggested a real solution, only clumsy and idiotic suggestions to remove it manually and reinstall over and over).
    My last recourse is to completely format my hard drive, and completely reinstall Windows XP SP2 which is a major undertaking in and of itself, entailing a massive backup and reinstallation of all my software, as well as all my project and business information.
    Adobe (and Photoshop) have truly gone downhill since Photoshop 7, and I see very little of any value or worth in this "Creative Suite" as the only thing it seems to create is frustration and additional problems. Is this sort of licensing really stopping software pirates? Am I supposed to suffer through lost contracts and countless hours of frustration after paying nearly $2000 for the software so that some pirate can't use it? Why don't they have a standalone application that can handle activation/deactivation and installation repair? Flexnet is practically a system crippling virus. And why did the add/remove wizard force me to shut down Yahoo messenger before it could run, and then tell me it couldn't do anything anyway?
    This software is junk. Now I am forced to find a new product to edit my digital photography and create web and video content (hopefully for less than the $2000 I wasted on these discs that are now only good as beer coasters).

    >Any chance your firewall is blocking Flexnet?
    No, I had disabled the firewall entirely after the issue presented itself. When I initially installed CS3 for the very first time I gave it (and all Adobe products) full permissions to allow for updating and any other internet-related communications they might require. Initially everything installed correctly, activated properly and all applications worked fine. After two or three weeks everything suddenly failed. After trying to load Photoshop and getting the mysterious failure, I had tried running other apps and all CS3 specific apps failed, giving me my first clue that it was licensing related (especially in light of the fact that non CS3-specific Adobe apps *would* load, such as Flash Encoder, Acrobat, and mysteriously, Soundbooth).
    It's my belief that since the Flexnet licensing subsystem (which is crucial to running CS3) is prone to corruption, deletion or other conflicts, that there should be a standalone application that can perform a verification check for Flexnet activation and repair, registration and updating without requiring an Adobe CS3 app to be loaded. Especially since the deactivation procedure requires loading into a working CS3 app. I was told by a forum member that this is "the least of my worries" yet it is a concern for those who wish to minimize the amount of time spent calling customer service and dealing with installation and activation problems.
    It's most likely that something I installed, uninstalled or use, had caused a conflict or corruption in Flexnet thereby preventing CS3 from operating. Following Adobe's suggestions, I stopped and restarted Flexnet, and Photoshop asked me to reactivate, and the reactivation was successful, however the application still crashed when it got to the "Initializing Palettes..." loading stage. All other CS3 applications, at that point, also failed to load, and all gave the same error code (which also referenced adobeowl.dll).
    The Add/Remove system didn't work properly, and so I also followed other suggestions (as per Adobe) of manual removal, running CS3clean.exe and reinstalling, but that also failed to resolve the issue (twice running CS3clean.exe first at level 1 and then level 2, I hadn't bothered with level 3 at this point as there seems to be no trace of Adobe software on my system), and the applications gave the same errors after reinstallation, activation and attempting to launch.
    The last recourse suggested was a "low level format" as that would be the only way to ensure no remaining traces of activation, licensing or prior installation, and would generate a new and unique activation and installation environment. However, since the actual *problem* has not been determined (nobody seems to know *why* or *how* this has happened) I am extremely reluctant to take such an action if the problem is likely to crop up again.
    Since other people have reported the same problem, (not to mention many issues regarding installation problems) I really don't wish to spend hours backing up my system, formatting and reinstalling Windows, updating Windows, reinstalling every driver and software package and then gambling that Adobe *might* work properly after all that.
    Since there is obviously a conflict with some software I run, and the other software I run is software I own and use routinely, then it's evident that Adobe Flexnet licensing is unable to maintain a coherent and secure record of my ownership of the CS3 product. That being the case, I don't see any point in continuing to wrestle with it until such time as Adobe determines a cause for the problem and issues a fix for it (though I doubt they will, they don't seem concerned in the slightest). For now, CS3 is no longer a piece of software I can use effectively or rely upon to be part of my production pipeline. I'm looking into other options for my workflow, and recommending against CS3 (as a whole) in general, except on "clean" systems with virtually no other potentially conflicting non-OS software present.

    Hello DiegoK and welcome to the forums......
    I would try going into safe mode and following the instructions below.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
    Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
    Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done,
    you will need to delete some registry keysfrom your PC Operating System registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
    they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
    box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember.
     In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install,
    and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
    did not sync before you create a hotsync name.

  • ITunes Won't Open -- Uninstalled and Reinstalled

    I am unable to open iTunes on my pc. I tried uninstalling QuickTime and reinstalling and it did not work. Then I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled, and still it will not open. Whether I try through the icon or through the programs menu, it just will not open. Any tips?

    I have Norton 2006, I believe, installed on it. It's set to expire in 2 months.
    hmmmm. much rarer to get error-message-free launch failures associated with 2006 (or 2007) than it is with 2005 ... but we'd better follow up on this.
    it's been a while since my 2006 expired, and i'm at 2007 now. but i'll try to remember what it's going to look like for you. apologies if the instructions are a bit sketchy.
    quit iTunes and QuickTime.
    bring up your Protection Center and click on Norton Personal Firewall. click the configure button.
    make sure that all of:
    Apple Software Update (May be called just "Software Update")
    Apple iTunes (or "iTunes")
    iTunes Helper
    QuickTime Player (or "Apple QuickTime Player")
    ... are all being allowed full access to the internet.
    okay out of the tab, and try launching iTunes again.
    do you get a launch this time?

  • Unresponsive, won't load, Uninstalled and reinstalled, same results.

    In the last month this began to slow and act oddly. Using Windows 7 system. Explorer is operating normally.
    Now I click on Firefox and nothing happens. Uninstalled the program and reinstalled it with no change in the outcome. What do I do?

    It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

    Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader. I get this error message "Adobe Reader could not open 'OD Test Bed Proposals_0.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  I have tried changing the 'open with' options too. • How do I install the FM10 licensing fix when Adobe Update Installer won't run?

    Adobe Update Installer won't run so can't install FM10 licensing fix
    This question is Not Answered.(Mark as assumed answered)

           Tags (edit): none (add)
    Because FM10 began crashing with "fatal" errors whenever I tried to generate a TOC for a small (65 page) book, I researched workarounds and none of them worked. Now that I have delivered a crippled deliverable via Acrobat manipulations, I would like to fix FM. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, got some updates, and then received the "licensing fix" error that popped up in January. I'm wondering why this fix was included not in the updates. That said, the licensing fix package, first, would not unzip so I downloaded it again. I unzipped it but I got a message that Adobe Updater Installer could not run and after several clicks I found that file. I reinstalled Adoble Update Installer but it still does not run.
    I am running Windows XP and have TCS 3.5.I uninstalled FM and RH but not Acrobat, Captivate, or Photoshop.
    So, now what? Listen to my supervisor who says never use FM again?
    P.S. Why do I have to enter a title for my question and then do it again when this page opens??

    Give Adobe Support a call or contact the TCS team at [email protected] - something in your environment is causing the installer to fail (I'd guess).

  • Adobe Photoshop CS6 won't run, problem with Application Manager

    I've now got three Adobo Photoshop CS products on my MacBook Pro, the latest is CS6 which won't run.
    I own Photoshop CS3, I just happen to install the CS5.x suite today, which runs during the trial period (30 day, today is day #1).
    I then see that PSCS6 is out so I install that and get an error dialog.
    Adobe Photoshop CS6
    Adobe Application Manager, required to verify your license, is missing or damaged.
    Please download a new copy of Adobe Application Manager from http://www.adobe.com/go/applicationmanager.
    I go to that URL, run the new application manager and get that same dialog box when I try to run CS6.
    When I did the CS6b install it asked for my Adobe ID/password and I entered that and the install completed. So I'm not sure what's going on.

    Hi, Using OSX Lion...was getting the same AAM errors.
    I hope my "fix" is of help:
    During one installation attempt I noticed that it was using an Adobe Application Manager here:
    ~User/Applications/Adobe/OOBE/PDApp/core/Adobe Application Manager
    It is version 6.0.236.0 and the installer deletes it after the install. The download page only has version 2.
    So during my last install attempt, I grabbed a copy of that OOBE directory -- to catch the support files -- before deletion.
    Did not work in user Applications folder, but when I copied it in the location of AAM 2, it works.
    The full location is as follows (I renamed the original OOBE folder as a back-up):
    HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/PDApp/core/Adobe Application Manager
    Authorization works, and software update seems to...however, uninstall can't use this method.

    I have been trying to open a browser window with Mozilla Firefox 6.0.2 (x86 en-US). It won't run, however, when I try to uninstall the program, it says I have to close firefox first. Win 7 task manager does not show the program as running.
