Adobe CS issues resolved upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.3?

I'm upgrading my Mac OS to Snow Leopard 10.6.3, (from 10.5.3). I did some research, and read about issues with Adobe CS software and 10.6 OS. I'm using Adobe CS4 versions. Has Apple/Adobe addressed these problems in the 10.6.3 release?
Using MacPro4,1 Quad-Core Intel

There is no C: drive as Windows designates things. When holding down the C key, you are telling the firmware to boot to the CD. It's kind of an old designation, and was added as a boot option when CDs were a new fangled thing. More specifically now, it searches for any bootable CD or DVD in an optical drive.
Anyway, yes, that's one way to do it. You can also hold down the Option key and then choose the SL DVD in the presented bootable drives. But that's the slightly long way around when you already know you want the DVD.
Unlike previous versions of OS X, Snow Leopard will not create a Previous System folder you need to trash. Snow Leopard will just replace the current OS, leaving all of your settings and third party software intact.
As always, never trust even the most thoughtfully written software (no matter what company you're referring to) to be perfect. Backup the drive first before installing SL so you have a way to get back in case something gets royally trashed.

  • Wireless network connectivity issues after upgrading to Snow Leopard

After upgrading to Snow Leopard (10.6.4) I find that my wireless network will not automatically connect to my router (Netgear DG834G) as it used to. First impressions are that the macbook is finding a number of wireless networks but wants to connect to the one that is alphabetically first in the list. It also seems that the signal that the airport is receiving is weak, even when the macbook is next to the router.
Has anyone experienced this when they upgraded?
Any and all help gratefully appreciated
    Nick

but a couple that I used with no problem before I upgraded now give me a "server not found" error after I enter my login and password.
Quit Safari. Open Keychain Access   /Applications/Utilities. Select Passwords on the left.
Delete the keychains for the sites you have problems logging into AND the Safari Forms Autofill keychain. Now from the menu bar click Keychain Access / Keychain First Aid. Select: Verify. If necessary, select: Repair. You will be prompted for your admin password. Click Start.
Relaunch Safari. Navigate to a site. Login with your user name and password. That will create a new keychain for you.
If you still have problems accessing sites, go to Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies. Delete all cookies or just the one's for the problematic sites. Now try logging into a site again.
Even though you upgraded to v10.6.7 make sure Safari is up to date. From the menu bar click Safari / About Safari. If it's a version prior to 5.0.5, click your Apple menu (top left in your screen) then click: Software Update...
And check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Something there may be preventing you from accessing secure sites. If you have any extensions installed,  turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.

  • Battery issue after upgrading to Snow Leopard

    Hello!
I've just upgraded to Snow Leopard and my Macbook doesn't seem able to live a minute without the magsafe plugged in. Here's my battery status (it's in Italian but I'm pretty sure you'll be able to read it anyway... If you don't understand just ask :))
    Informazioni sulla carica:

    Carica completa: Sì
    In carica: No
Capacità a carica completa (mAh): 65317
    Informazioni sulle condizioni della batteria:
    Conteggio cicli: 108

**** It says to replace it now! But cycles are not so many, I guess
    Batteria installata: Sì
    Amperaggio (mA): 0
    Voltaggio (mV): 10251
I tried a couple of times to reset Pram and calibrate battery, but nothing happened.
    What's your suggestion?
    Thanks for the attention,
    dimmalo.

    Dimmalo,
    The way I read it...
1.) You've got 108 cycles on the battery
2.) Full charge capacity of 65,317mAh
So you've either got a defective battery or a depleted battery. It seems unlikely that the software suddenly change battery reporting information so dramatically. One thing you might wish to consider is booting up the machine from the Leopard discs and run System Profiler from within the installer. I'd be curious if it reports something different (though I don't suspect it will).

  • Mail issues when upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone out there may be able to answer this question or offer some advice. I am being prompted by Apple to move over to iCloud which requires me upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion. I am extremely reluctant to do this as I have heard of problems when migrating to Lion, especially with Mail. I presently have over 30,000 emails in my inbox. These mails are divided into a multitude of folders all on my mac. I have a mac email account along with other non Apple email accounts (POP) on my Mac. These emails and the folder structure are fundamental to my work so losing any emails or even the folder structure would be disastrous for me. I have of course made a backup (2 in fact) but do like the idea of trying to rebuild everything from scratch. Any advice would be greatly welcomed. Thanks.

I'm no expert but at the moment I just woudn't do it as there appears to be lots of unexplained problems with mail and Lion. I have been a Mac user from the earliest days and have never ever had the kinds of problems I am currently having to work around since installing Lion. I wish I had stayed with Snow Leopard.

  • Safari issues after upgrading to Snow Leopard

So, I upgraded my OS last night to Snow Leopard 10.6 and now some secure webpages will not open.  Most secure websites (financial institution sites) open fine, but a couple that I used with no problem before I upgraded now give me a "server not found" error after I enter my login and password.   I tried using a different DNS server as well as one other fix that the Apple suppport help pages recommended with no success.  Anybody ever experience the same issue?

  • WIKI Issue after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Just upgraded my Xserve to Snow Leopard. Trying to create WIKIs in Workgroup Manager and now I keep getting this error...
Error of type eDSNoStdMappingAvailable (-14140) on line 741 of /SourceCache/WorkgroupManager/WorkgroupManager-361.1.1/Plugins/GroupAccounts/Gr oupBasicPluginView.mm
    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Hi eaustria,
Double check DNS is correctly configured in Server Admin (SA). Also where in Workgroup Manager (WGM) are you trying to create wikis? In 10.5 (Leopard) server wikis were enabled in WGM. In 10.6 (Snow Leopard) server you enable wikis in the web service in SA or under wiki's in Server Preferences.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Keyboard issues after upgrading to Snow Leopard

I installed 10.6 onto my MacBook Air.
    The keyboard is behaving oddly;
For starters the caps lock key is reversed. It types lower case when the light is on.
Shift 2 now types a " and the open bracket symbol now types the @
There are lots of other oddities as well.
    Any thoughts?

My system kept locking up. So I decided to try to eliminate hardware to see if that is a part of the problem.
I'm running a MBP with Snow Leopard (10.6.1). I realized that when I take the laptop home, which I do every night, the unit does not lockup that evening or then next morning. It only loks up on my desk at work.
So... at my desk I have power, a USB hub with a couple of external dives as well as a printer on that hub. A second USB hub with an external keyboard and mouse and iPhone conection. Audio in and out leads/feeds. A Network cable. Using a Roswill Express card for an eSata connection and a backup drive on that. Finally, I have a 2nd Monitor on the DVI port via an apple DVI to VGA.
The express card causes a kernel panic from time to time. But I've pretty much cleared it as the issue. The panic occurs on connect or disconnect of the card...sometimes.
I have not crashed since I pulled the DVI connector out. Everything else is running just fine. Keeping my fingers crossed and longing for more real estate.

  • Connectivity issues since upgrading to Snow Leopard

Hello folks.  Sorry to dredge up bad memories, but I upgraded my old MacBook Pro (2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) from 10.5.8 to 10.6.3.  AirportX firmware update ran at the same time, now my network shows as connected, but I can't connect to mail or Internet.  It was supposed to be an interim step so I could go to a more current o/s via online download, but obviously that's not an option right now.
The Airport is green, I show as having a connection to the network, but nothing works.  I've restarted both MacBook and Airport, reinstalled SL, still nothing.  There's no antivirus on board, and no sharing set up, which I gather were common issues back when the rest of you were encountering this issue back in 2009... Didn't occur to me it wouldn't have been patched long since.
    Any suggestions?

Same problem here - the MobileMe sync never completes. I've checked syncing from my iPhone back to the Me.com web site, and that is fine. So the problem seems to be between my newly-upgraded 10.6 Mac and the MobileMe "cloud."
Best I can tell, the hangup is with calendar sync. Here's what the Console log tells me:
8/29/09 9:20:30 AM com.apple.syncservices.SyncServer[2162] 2009-08-29 09:20:30.085 iCalExternalSync[2183:903] [ICalExternalSync ]The sync server failed to let client iCal pull changes
    And the mobilemesync.log says this:
2009-08-29 09:25:20:858|35a2b00|Error|Sync cancelled for dataclass com.apple.Calendars while merging changes in Sync Engine: Session <ISyncConcreteSession: 0x10274b8f0> cancelled. lost connection to SyncServer
Could it just be traffic? That seems unlikely.
I've already tried to "Reset Sync Data" under "Advanced" in the MobileMe Sync preferences - I told the sync to replace everything on my computer with info from MobileMe. That didn't fix the problem.
My last successful sync was right before my upgrade from 10.5.8!
    Ideas?

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard yesterday, twice I've been unable to get my screen saver to release back to my working desktop. Anybody else have this issue?

For a few users, since some point in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, there has been an occasional problem when trying to wake from sleep if you have Bluetooth enabled for the keyboard, Magic Mouse, Trackpad, etc.
The solution for me that worked 100% of the time was: System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.
For me, the problem ran intermittently through 10.6.something, all of 10.7 and now, finally, seems to be resolved in 10.8.2.

The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
You can upgrade direct from 10.6.8 to 10.8 Mountain Lion without going through 10.7 Lion with the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody. The Model 5,1 will probably run 10.9 Mavricks when it comes out.
10.8 Mountain Lion is a download from the App Store, the price is $19.99.
Mountain Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.8 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Mountain Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mountain Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • After upgrading to snow leopard my charger works intermittently, could this be a software issue or just a coincidence

After upgrading to snow leopard my charger works intermittently, could this be a software issue or just a coincidence

Very likely this is a coincidence. Have you tried resetting your System Management Controller? That would be the best first step for any issue that has to do with power.
    Best of luck.

  • Issue upgrading to snow leopard. CD ejected halfway

I have an old mac laptop that is os x 10.5.8, Inter Core 2 Duo. I want to upgrade to snow leopard so I got the CD. It downloads to about 48% ejects itself and reboots, and does not finish the download, what do I do?

What do you mean by "it downloads?" You can't download Snow Leopard. Do you mean install? Do you mean that the progress indicator gets to 48% before the installation fails? Was there an error message? If so, what did it say?
Perhaps you should try this first:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If all is well boot from the Snow Leopard DVD:
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
    1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
          logo appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.

all of my Illustrator files preview icons have changed since upgrading to snow leopard. They use to have the Ai logo. Now they have what looks like the Postscript icon.
I believe preview icons are controlled by the OS so not sure what to do. Have done all of the usual run disk permissions etc.

Illustrator CS4 is installed on my computer and works fine. Double clicking the file will launch or open in Illustrator. It's only the preview that is wrong and a bit of a nuisance if I am looking for an illustrator file

  • IPhone sync issue with iTunes after Snow Leopard upgrade

I upgraded to Snow Leopard and since then iTunes does not see my iPhone 3GS and I am unable to sync. I've read the troubleshooting guide to no avail. What am I missing?

If you are running v10.6.3 as your profile suggests, update to v10.6.8.
Click your Apple menu / Software Update.
Restart your Mac after the updates are installed.
See if iTunes will recognize your iPhone.
If your software is up to date then try here >  iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
