Adobe CS2 uninstall (as administrator, no antivirus) fails on Windows with "Missing or Invalid Personalization Information", "Missing resources library"

My previously fully functional Adobe CS2 install on Windows 7 x64 stopped working when the activation service for CS2 was shut down.
I tried to follow the re-installation instructions at the following web page which first require a complete uninstall of Adobe CS2:
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l
Running as a local administrator in elevated mode and without a running antivirus (in fact, with an uninstalled antivirus), I get the following error message and the uninstaller refuses to run:
The installer could not start because of the following reasons:
Missing or Invalid Personalization Information
Missing resources library
I searched the forums and found matching threads such as these:
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1602420
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1547148
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/986439
but they seem to suggest insufficient privileges or an interfering antivirus.
I opened a chat support case (case number: 0214720731) responded to by @Arunkumar who sent me back to the forums.  When I said similar queries had not been resolved for months, he promised to escalate to his "senior product expert" team to post a solution.  I am posting this message in the hope they will respond with useful suggestions as I do not want to do a complete Windows re-install of an otherwise perfectly functional computer just because the Adobe uninstaller doesn't work.

You have insufficient privileges to access the registry or your virus scanner is blocking it. Nothing Adobe can fix for you, you need to find the culprit on your system and/ or fix the registry permissions as explained here:

  • "missing or invalid personalization information missing resource library" On CS2

    Problem:
I just installed CS2 on my Gateway Desktop the other day. I was unable to use CS2 because I maxed out my serial code on another laptop for work. I went a head and deactviated the serial for CS2 and uninstalled it on the laptop. So I could use the CS2 on my Gateway Desktop and transfer the serial code.
I go to my Desktop and the CS2 still won't load right.  Okay, so I try to uninstall the CS2.  But there's no uninstall file and it's not showing up in the uninstall manager in Windows 7. So go a head and delete the majority of the CS2 in my program files and then try reinstall a fresh copy of CS2.  I get an error "missing or invalid personalization information missing resource library."
How can I get around that new error? So I can reinstall a working copy of CS2 on my desktop. It's a bit frustrating.  Anybody experience the same problem?   Any insight would be great.  Thanks

    Intel 2 quad CPU Q8400 @2.66

Thanks for the link, I tried following the directions to further removing the components but had no luck.  So I went a head and reformated the computer so I can reinstall a clean CS2.
Good new is it's not nagging about a inproper serial now.  Bad new is whenever I try to install the CS2 in the C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe It says "The path you selected for installation contains unsupported characters.  Please choose a different folder for installation, so I try C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe2.  I still get that prompt blocking me.
I did some homework on compatability issues like mention. Some people mention to reclick and and select compatability tab and service pack 3 as admin.  I gave that a go.  All that did was reboot the computer.  A few people claim that got CS2 working for windows 7 already here, other's couldn't:

  • CANNOT REMOVE OR REINSTALL CS2  "Missing or Invalid Personalization Information"

    Hello,
I am having all kinds of trouble with CS2. My company aquired a copy of the web based version to replace the outdated CS2 product CD we purchased years ago. The copy we got from adobe support is the web based version which is supposed to work with windows 7. It will install fine on a fresh install of windows 7, but when I got to install it on another W7 machine that has previously had CS2/CS5 installed on it, it gets an error any time I try to install the web based version we got. I have removed the previous installations of CS2 and CS5 (this includes the manual removal of CS2 using support docs from Adobe, but somehow the program is still in control panel> program list. The error I get when trying to install on the problem child is "The installer could not start because of the following reasons: Missing or invalid personalization information. Missing resource library.". Like I said I have removed all of the files and registry entries for these programs that I can find manually, but this error keeps halting the CS2 web based version installer, and CS2 is still showing up in the program list, so there HAS to be some files hiding somewhere. This is when a removal tool is just a no brainer... but that is no where to be found on the interwebs. If anyone has any information to put me onto a fix for this WITHOUT reinstalling windows I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks

  • CS 2 - can't uninstall (missing or invalid Personalization Info)

I cannot uninstall Creative Suite 2 on Windows XP ... from the Control Panel / Add Remove Programs, I get the message:
"The Installer could not start because of the following reasons:
    - missing or invalid Personalization Information
    - missing Resources Library"
Putting in the original CD and trying to uninstall with that gave the same message. I have had a number of different Adobe products on this computer. I have probably uninstalled/updated some of them in the last few years.
Has anyone seen this ... and is there some way to get the (un)installer to work? [I had used this product with an evaluation license)
    Thanks for any help,
    Chris

Do you have other Adobe software that you want to preserve? I think the CS3 clean script will actually remove CS2 as well, as collateral damage, but that's based on anecdotal evidence, not experience.
Of course you could just delete the folders and run a registry cleaner and there is little possibility that you'd see any problems other than not being able to install CS2 on that machine.

  • How do I fix Creative Suite CS2 reinstall with error message "Missing or Invalid Personalization Inf

How do I fix Creative Suite CS2 reinstall on same Windows 7 Pro machine, with error message "Missing or Invalid Personalization Information / Missing Resources Library" when I attempt to reinstall from installation disk set? Was having trouble with Adobe Acrobat Pro 8; Uninstalled and am now stuck. You can email me if you like at [email protected] Thank you.

    Hi Bill:
I don't remember deactivating (after my XP PRO harddrive scattered)
when I did the first Windows 7 pro install of these programs and it went
fairly well except AA8 was a little problematic when converting from MS
    Word.
In my case the AA8 came with a Studio 8 suite of programs as follows:
         1) A Studio 8 installation disk
         2) A Creative Suite CS2 Premium set of installation disks.
         3) A Creative Suite 2.3 Premium upgrade disk with AA8
I uninstalled AA8 and when I tried reinstallation the directions
said to do the Creative Suite CS2 Premium set of installation disks
first followed by the Creative Suite 2.3 Premium upgrade disk with AA8.
Now I'm stuck; What a mess.
         Thanks for trying to help.
I will do as you suggest and go to

    Hi,

    Hi Sasi,
Export-SPWeb is used to export a site, list, or library rather than a site collection. The Identity of the command should be a site.
Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to export a site and import it to aother site. Is it right?
I run your command using the URL of my site instead of the
http://SitecollectionURL/, everything worked well. Please re-run the command below:
    Export-SPWeb -Identity <URL of your site> -Path "F:\filename.bak" -IncludeUserSecurity -Compression 1024 -IncludeVersions 4
In addition, please try to export the site via Central Administration->Backup and Restore->Export a site or list under Granular Backup, and select the site collection and the site, then  click ‘Start Export’. If you want to import the exported
site to another site, you should use Import-SPWeb command.
    About Export-SPWeb command:

    I hope this helps.

  • Air app install fail in IE with Badge Installer Error # 2032

Much has been written about this problem, and the most quoted solutions are
Ensure the appurl FlashVar is not a relative url but fully qualified http://domain.com/app.air
    Uninstall and reinstall Air
    Empty browser's cache
None of these have solved my issue and I still have a reproducible bug.
I have set up a badge installer at http://tx.flamjam.com/mms/ which attempts to install appurl=http:/tx.flamjam.com/mms/MMSReview.air
This works beautifully in OS X but fails in Windows with the error window,
    Sorry, an error has occurred.
The application could not be installed. Try installing it again. If the problem persists, contact the application author.
    Error# 2032
I've tested IE and Chrome, both updated to the most recent versions.
When Air is not installed I get a slightly different error message, with no error number.
The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author.
With Air installed, if I instead visit the appurl directly in the browser — http:/tx.flamjam.com/mms/MMSReview.air —  the file downloads and installs without problem.
To the best of my knowledge, the error is a generic stream error which essentially means that the appurl could not be found. To demonstrate this, simply use a fictitous appurl and now the same error can be seen on OS X as well. This implies that something is malforming the appurl withing the badge, but I have modified the status display text of the badge to display the appurl parsed from the LoaderInfo object containing FlashVars payload and can confirm that the appurl appears to be consistent between OS X and Win.
    Log file in next post.
I'll continue digging for a solution, and post my findings here, but would value other's input on this subject greatly.

    An interesting development.
When I monitor my network traffic using ServiceCapture I can see that no attempt is made to connect to the appurl, with the install failing instantly without even attempting to connect to the appurl.
ServiceCapture on OS X confirms the attempt to connect to the appurl even if the url is deliberately fictitous resulting in a 404 response.
The badge begins the installation process using the installApplication method of the following file
    http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/browserapi/air.swf
which the badge loads on startup.
It would appear to me that the installation problem is failing inside that loaded swf's code, but I'm at a loss as to how to debug that.

    Hi,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when trying to open CS2.

  • Adobe CS2 Intall failed, now dead iMac!

    Hi All,
Just got to the third disc of an install of Adobe CS2 on Intel Imac Core Duo 20". Second disc refused to come out of drive when the screen was saying to change the disc and now the iMac does not respond to anything. No key presses were registered. The cursor moves but does not click.
I tried turning off the mac (holding in power button to force off, only option) and restarting with mouse button held down to eject disc, but it still doesn't get to the desktop for more than a second before it jams. Even the time, bluetooth and volume icons do not appear before the imac freezes.
Recent switcher and not that Mac savvy. Outside of 3 month support period, which *****.
    Help!
    Rich
iMac 20" Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

My first question is did you install the Security Update Apple released yesterday for iMac Intels? There is a startup item that CS2 places in HD>Library>StartupItems that conflicts with OS X after the Security Update install and prevents a complete system start.
If this is causing your problem you need to reboot in Safe Mode by starting the computer and holding the shift key until the gray screen with the Apple Logo appears. This boot takes much longer than a normal start, sometimes 3 to 5 minutes, because it is verifying and repairing the directory. Safe Mode does not allow 3rd party startup Items to load. After your Mac Desktop appears you will be able to navigate to the startupItems folder and remove the CS2 item. The Mac should be able to do a normal restart without freezing now.

  • Adobe Air Uninstall problem

Adobe Air gets installed with PSE-9.  When I try to uninstall Adobe Air I get a small window with a message saying I need administrator permission, however I am the administrator, and I'm selecting uninstall as the "User" Administrator.  This is on a PC running Win 7 64.  Adobe PSE-9 was the first Adobe software to get installed on this PC.  Any advice will be sincerely appreciated.
    Pete

    Hi Pete,
I think your assumption is correct.  I suspect we're having a problem installing the AIR runtime on your system.  Could you post the contents of your installer logs?  I'm attaching instructions for both the AIR and, if needed,  MSI logs.
    1. Ensure that viewing hidden folders is enabled.  Instructions can be found on Microsoft's site:
    Windows 7, Vista, XP
    2. Navigate to the following folder (replace username with your login name):
    Windows 7:  C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\AIR\logs
    Vista:  C:\Users\ username\AppData\Local\Adobe\AIR\logs
    XP:  C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\AIR\logs
    3. Please attach the install.log to your forum post or open the log file with Notepad or your favorite text editor and select all and copy/paste.
    4. In some situations the AIR installer will fail during the MSI portion of the install.  You can determine if this occurred by searching the Install.log text for "Error occurred during msi install operation".  If this text is found, please enable and locate the MSI log using this Microsoft document and include it, along with the AIR Install.log when reporting the install issue.
How to enable Windows Installer logging
Once MSI logging is enabled, please re-run the AIR Installer to generate the MSI Log.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • My adobe CS2 programs will not open on my macbook pro osx 10.5.8

Today my adobe cs2 suite programs will not open.  They were working just fine a couple of days ago.  And they have worked fine for years.  I did not update to any new os that would cause them not to work.  I really need to get some image work done soon and this is a real monkey wrench in my plans.  I uninstalled everything and tried to reinstall from the disc and it would not let me do that either.  I tried to download picasa just as a quick alternative to get some images edited tonight and it would not let me open that either, even though it said it was good for 10.5 or above.  So the only thing I can think of is that I downloaded something that changed some settings?

    Try http://www.lemkesoft.com/ GraphicConverter instead.

  • Cannot uninstall PSE10 after failed install (Windows 7 Home Premium)

I am trying to install Photoshop Elements 10 from a disk.
The process has gone like this:
I restarted my laptop and made sure it's Windows Updates were up-to-date.
I uninstalled the PSE9 trial that I had on this computer (that had expired a while ago).
    Restarted laptop.
Put PSE10 disk 1 into drive and ran Autoplay.exe. [Maybe I accidentally ran it twice as at a later point I vaguely remember seening a message box saying 'can't ran ... at the same time' or something like that]
I chose the 'Install PSE10 option' - with no Premier trial.
The install app opened in a normal way and ran for several minutes while I did something else.
When I next looked it was displaying a message saying something like Couldn't install Shared Technologies...
I looked the issue up on the web and found an Adobe page saying to install Adobe Support Advisor, which I did and this identified the issue as "cpsid_83574r3: Read or write file system errors when installing - Creative Suite 5"
There was also a link to a help page which suggested Uninstalling the program, renaming any remaing PSE10 folders and reinstalling.
So I ran Uninstall - by running Autoplay.exe on the disk (couldn't find any other way).
This quickly produced an error and reported that no changes had been made.
I changed the name of the 'Photoshop Elements 10' and 'Elements 10 Organizer' folders anyway. This involved going into safe mode as the first folder would not delete.
Then I tried reinstalling. But everytime I try to reinstall via autoplay.exe it just offers me the uninstall option and this always fails with error message: Error 2343.Specified path is empty
    What do I do next????

    Jeff,
I have tried renaming the folders back to what they were - to no effect.
Uninstall does not work either by:
Using Control Panel -> Programs and Features. Photoshop Elements does not appear anywhere in the list of installed programs.
Running the Installation from the disk - it says it's going to do an uninstall and gives a 2343 error and says nothing's been changed.
The link you gave did not seem relevant as it was about looking at the install log and trying to spot the problem there. But the install log I have tells me what happened when I tried to run the original installation process.
I did manage to find the uninstall log.
The bit where things goes wrong looks like:
    Action 17:06:45: SetCustomShortCutDir_uninstall.
    Action start 17:06:45: SetCustomShortCutDir_uninstall.
    Error 2343.Specified path is empty.
MSI (s) (EC:5C) [17:06:48:358]: Product: Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 -- Error 2343.Specified path is empty.
When I search for 'CustomShortCut', I find thsi further down the log
    Property(S): CustomShortCutDir = C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\
(I've checked and this directory does exist, but just has a shortcut to the Photoshop Elements 10 exe)
and a bit further down the log I found:
    Property(C): CustomShortCutDir = P:\CustomShortCutDir\
This directory didn't exist (obviously). I do have a P: drive (an ordinary partition on my HDD), so I created the dir. But there was no effect the next time I tried to run uninstall.
