Adobe CS3 Upgrade - Can I Deactivate/Uninstall CS2?

Hi all,
A handful of months back, our company purchased the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium upgrade package to replace our Adobe Creative Suite 2 package. What I am wondering is whether it is necessary for CS2 to remain activated and installed on my system in order to run CS3 programs, or if I may go ahead and deactivate/uninstall it. Again, this was an upgrade package, not the standalone version.
Also, if it IS possible to deactivate/uninstall CS2 and continue running CS3, can another person within our organization install CS2 then, or would this cause conflict with the copy of CS3 I am running...?
Thanks so much, in advance.

You can do what you want but if you have even the slightest thought that
you'll need the older version leave it.
In any event, your CS2 copy is tied to the CS3 since it was used to
upgrade it. You can not transfer or install it on a different machine.

  • Adobe CS3 Upgrade

I purchased Adobe CS3 Upgrade at an auction with the intent to sell.  I contacted chat support and they said the seller (auction) needs to transfer the license o me and then I can sell and transfer the rights to a buyer.  I can't get back on chat to ask any follow up questions.  Chat support said they'd put a case number in my profile and I can't find it anywhere.
    help!

You should get back in touch with chat support if you have unfinished business with them.

  • Adobe CS3 Upgrade on 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro

I am planning to purchase the new generation MacBook Pro in about a month.
My question is about Adobe CS3. I currently use CS2 on an older G4 PowerBook because I could not deal with the performance dip on the older MacBook Pro (1.83 GHz with 512MB RAM). So I have a licensed copy of CS2 for PPC. If I buy the Upgrade Version of CS3 at a much reduced price, will the transition to Universal work on a MacBook Pro? No more Rosetta? Performance problems solved?
I realize Rosetta probably struggled with my previous MacBook's speed and lack of RAM. But I don't want to go through that hair-pulling again. I don't get into that advanced PhotoShop, etc. of CS3 but I'm willing to upgrade just to have it Universal and be more reliable. And, of course, I'd like to save the $800 on having to buy the Full Version of the software.
    Thanks everyone for your feedback.
By the way, I had the same performance issue with MS Office for Mac. Almost 30 seconds to open Word! Anyone know if this becomes a non-issue with newer Macbook Pros??
    1.8 PowerPC G5 3GB DDR SDRAM Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Your problem your your previous MBP was simply RAM. 512MB when trying to use CS2 products is simply insanity. If you opt for a new MBP with the standard 2GB, better still with an upgrade to 4GB, then CS3 will perform extremely well. RAM us hugely important and one of the biggest bottlenecks in today's hardware and software requirements.

  • How can I deactivate Photoshop CS2 on an old Mac?

I tried to deactivate Photoshop CS2 on my old Mac by using the "Transfer Activation" command on the Help menu. (There is no "Deactivate" command.) Photoshop never recognizes that I do have a connection to the Internet, so I cannot proceed. Is there a way to Deactivate on this computer?

    Forget about it.
The CS2 activation server was shut down by Adobe a couple of years ago. So you're trying to communicate with a server which no longer exists.
Error: "Activation Server Unavailable" | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3
If you're planning to re-install CS2 on a new Mac, that won't work since CS2 is a PowerPC application which will not install or run on modern Intel-based Macs running newer versions of OS X.

  • Installing CS3 Upgrade on new machine? CS2 registered user on old machine

I was wondering if I would be able to install a CS3 Upgrade on a new iMac I plan to purchase....I have a fully registered CS2 version on my current iMac, so therefore I think I'd be eligible to only purchase the upgrade...but would I need to install CS2 on the new iMac first, then the upgrade? Would doing this affect the upgrade because of multiple activations on CS2?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just install CS3. During the installation you'll be asked for some proof
of eligibility. You need either the CS2 installation disk or the serial
number, but make sure you have both handy.

  • Was ACR 4.5 installed with Adobe CS3?  Can't find it

Didn't get very far with my post on Oct 26 about missing components.
So, let's try this one: I purchased and installed Adobe CS3 about a year ago along with Lightroom 1.3.1. Haven't been working on CS3 while getting LR set up.
Was ACR 4.5 a part of that install or not? I cannot find ACR 4.5 on my computer.

    Thanks for your patience, Freeagent.
FYI, I'm on a PC, WinXP SP3. My splash screens tell me I have the following:
    Photoshop CS3 Version 10.0.1
    Lightroom 1.3.1
    Camera Raw 4.6.0.30
    Bridge 2.1.1.9
I followed the path you suggested in post no. 3 (and some variations)
and found NO reference to Camera Raw.8bi.
There are 18 icons in the File Formats folder such as 3DS.8BI, BMP.8BI, Gif.8bi, Png.8bi, Targa 8BI, DAE.8BI, etc.; there is NO Camera Raw.8bi.
    What does this tell you?

  • Installed Cs4 - can I now uninstall cs2?

I recently installed CS4 upgrade on my laptop and would now like to uninstall the version of CS2 that I have been using.
Will removing CS2 remove any shared files that are necessary for CS4 to work properly?
The reason for removing CS2 is that I am quickly running out of available disk space on drive C.
As a side question,  is it possible to delete CS4 from my laptop and re-install it on my D drive (how wil that affect my activation?)?
Thanks in advance for any and all help

It is not advisable to install Photoshop anywhere but  C:\Program files. Some have done it, but many have had problems.
If you want more space on C:\ move stuff off it and clear out all temp files and other accumulated junk (there is normally a lot!)
Get an external drive for your image files.

  • Help! bulk license photoshop 7.0 with Cs3 upgrade won't work when reinstalling - Adobe support can't help

I've installed/reinstalled CS3 (upgrade over Photoshop7) a few times since 2007 when I've upgraded my pc - from the first install I had to contact their Aussie 1800 number because the Photoshop disk was a bulk license version and it didn't like the key when CS3 did an upgrade check.  Spent over an hour today on a chat with Adobe and they will no longer help me as they aren't trained on PS 7 or CS3.  ANY HELP would be appreciated

If your products are registered with Adobe, they can unlock CS3. It's called a "challenge code".
Apparently, Adobe has a challenge code system.  So, if you have the old serial number from the upgrade and you call customer support.  Customer support has a challenge code procedure where they give you a code that overrides the problem.  Unfortunately, it took me 5 calls to customer support before I found someone who knew how to do it.  The key term is "Challenge Code"
Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product" | CS6, CS5.5, CS5
Important:  We can unlock your serial number after we first verify that you qualify for the upgrade. When you contact us, be at your computer to complete the following upgrade verification workflow.
    Register your product.
Contact us. You'll complete the next steps with a staff member.
Do one of the following in the Serial Number Upgrade screen:
Windows: Press Ctrl+Shift and then double-click.
Mac OS: Press Command+Shift and then double-click.
    The Upgrade Code window appears.
Read the Challenge Code to the support staff member.
Enter the Support Code (that Adobe Support provides) into the Support Code field, and then click Next.

  • I have Photoshop 6, upgrade CS2, upgrade CS5, can I uninstall CS2?

I originally bought Photoshop 6, upgraded to CS2, and upgraded that to CS5. I don't ever use CS2 and I don't see any reason to keep it. My question is, will uninstalling CS2 adversely affect Photoshop 6 or CS5 in any way? I am wondering if CS2 has to be there for CS5 to run, or if uninstalling CS2 will change or uninstall any Photoshop 6 or CS5 settings.

On Windows, at least, uninstalling one version of Photoshop has been said to goof up file association settings (I can't say because I still have all the versions installed, myself).
If that happens to you, check back here; I'm pretty sure there are posts that can be turned up with a search that will describe how to straighten that out.

  • Can't deactivate or uninstall CS3 from old PC to put on new PC

Hi, I want to deactivate my CS3 master collection from my old PC and install it to my new PC but, I can't because I had previously tried to uninstall it (unsuccessfully).  After clicking the uninstall button from the uninstall program window there was no uninstall window to guide me through the process.  I waited for something to happen for about 90 minutes, but nothing happened.  Now, after trying the uninstall, it won't let me open any of the programs and it still won't let me uninstall them from my old computer.  I've already tried to install my CS3 master collection to my new computer but, it won't let me open any of the programs due to licensing issues.  Every time I try to access any of the programs on my old PC, I get a dialogue box that states "licensing for this product has stopped working."  To sum it up, I can't deactivate from any of the programs on my old PC since licensing issues (brought on from the unsuccessful uninstall) won't grant me access, and it still won't uninstall from my old computer.  Help!

first, try re-installing on your old computer (over your current installation).
if you're lucky you'll be able to open a cs3 program > click help > click deactivate.
then open your win control panel and uninstall your cs3 from your old computer.
then uninstall, clean and reinstall cs3 from you new computer per -  Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Can't find CS2 serial to install CS3 upgrade version (*@*! Yosemite)

    Hi all,
Am having to re-install my CS3 (old I know, but still does the job) after having to wipe my hard drive after making the mistake of upgrading my OS to Yosemite... trouble is, as it was the upgrade version (had to install CS2 first) I now need to enter my CS2 serial - which I don't have.
Still waiting for answer on the "Chat" service (customer support no longer 'does' customer support for this) and nothing in my products page in my Adobe ID so a little stuck at the mo !
    Any solution MUCH appreciated

    Hi Ned,
Thanks for the (extremely prompt!) answer - I've marked as "correct" as I reckon it would work (the installation dialogue box only required a valid CS2 serial and the one on the download link - 1130-0412-8377-1896-9751-5759 - should work, according to what the page states).
Fortunately I managed to find (an old sketchbook that I was using at the time that had a note of both my CS2 and CS3 serials so managed to finish my install from that... one advantage of hoarding old notebooks !
Thanks again, and much kudos to you !
NB. If anyone else has the same issue (re-installing the upgrade version of CS3) then there is no need to install CS2 first before installing CS3 - the system should know you had a valid CS2 and only requires the valid serial.
