Adobe CS5.5.2 themed desktop background...

Being the nerd that I am, I decided to have some fun and create an Adobe Master Collection CS5.5.2 themed desktop background yesterday, while waiting for a DVD to transcode... Here's what I came up with. Sorry, Adobe, if I used any copyrighted images... everything in here I found with google image searches for "Adobe logos." This particular one is 1680x1050... The 2 is simply the 5 inverted with some distortion applied to get it close to the same angle as the 5 originally was, and then I used the "Replace Color" commands on two separate versions of the 2 to swap the orange and pink, then merged the two layers. I suppose when 5.5.3 gets released I'll be screwed...
If anyone wants a hi-rez copy, let me know...

The program was purchased several years ago so I called Adobe the other day and had them walk me through how to download on my new computer. I have done all the steps and it downloaded into my downloads folder however not it will not install. It is saying my security preferences allow installations of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers. ???? I don't know how to go about changing these settings? Please help!

You should be able just to either right click on the installer or Control click and choose Open and then the installer should work.

Repeating colored background in Adobe CS5....why ????

OK, I have a very interesting question for you experts out there:
After doing a blue-screen shot, I wanted to put just a flat color as the background and fade from one color to the next as the subject acts in front of the blue-screen.
I made the colors in Adobe Photoshop using an old image and just painting it over with whatever color I want. After making several, I went to add them as the background in Adobe CS5 and it worked fine.
The problem I encountered is this: When I put the first color background in (let's say brown), then I go to add another colored background from the same source file where I stored all the different backgrounds, it keeps bringing up the "brown" background again. It says it's the "pink" background, but it shows brown and drags into the scene as brown. No matter what I do, even putting the original brown background into a different source file, it keeps bringing up the brown one again and again.
Very strange dilema, and I have no idea how to solve it.
Do any of you guys know what the problem is? Have any of you run into this kind of thing before? Is there a solution?
It can't be the computer or CS5 'cause they're both brand new, so it's obviously ME not knowing what the hell I'm doing......

I have not seen an issue with JPEG's, BUT... I seldom use them, and I do not have CS5 installed yet. As Colin mentions, there does seem to be a glitch (?) with some JPEG's.
Glad that the TIFF's work for you. When doing almost anything in PS, that will go to Video, I keep the format PSD, and will either Import as Footage, if I don't care about my Layers (this will Flatten the Layers), or as a Sequence, should I want the Layers. In the workflow that you outline, I'd probably create the one Image (good move to set this up per the Frame Size of the Project, BTW), and just do a Layer for each "background." Then, I'd Import as a Sequence, and just drag each Layer to the main Sequence, as needed.
The suggestion to use Color Mattes is also a good one, though if one wants a different look, than just a flat color, PS can allow all sorts of creative functions/Filters to alter that color from "plain-vanilla" to something "other worldly."

How can I turn off floating interface on mac version adobe cs5? It is very hard and confusing to work with the new interface and I want a gray (relaxing) background as it was in earlier versions for Windows.
I do not want to see the desktop while working in Photoshop...

Adobe CS5.5 Installation problems on WinVista

installing adobe cs5.5 on windows vista, bootstrapper error, missing installation files, adobe cleaner ran, but doesn't recognize cs5 installation. removed anti virus package(s), no effect. removed an problematic adobe reader X, no effect. adobe clean up tool was also used to clean up CS3 installation, log created for that, but that shouldn't be an issue regarding a new CS5.5 install. I continue to receive the same error message regardless... bootstrapper, missing installation files, anyone know what possibly could be wrong?

1. were your installation files downloaded?
2. is there more than one installation file?
3. are your installation files on your desktop or in a directory on your desktop?

How do I change the PS desktop background to a .JPG or other suitable file format of my choosing?

I asked this question a couple months ago and never really received a satisfactory answer. Maybe Adobe holds these secrets close to the vest.
What I would like to accomplish is changing my PS desktop background so that every time I open PS it has a background that I have chosen. (Yes I know you can change the black and grey in the preferences panel) What I want is not necessarily in the preferences panel, unless I'm missing something altogether.
Now here I'm adding a screenshot of a fairly well known PS user CB (who is especially good at 3D) who has his background basically the way I would like mine. If anyone can tell me how to accomplish this thank you!

What I'm looking for is something similar to the dark blue background. I have a JPG file similar to this that I would like to use. Now I was able to change the splash opening screen in Lightroom, so I imagine the fix is something similar.

That did work and it's the same as the frame in the sample I provided. Unfortunately not what I wanted. I guess I need to be much more specific. I would like to change the background to look similar to what that sample is, AND be able to have PS as an application that's on top of my desktop and not take up the entire desktop. (which is what happens if I break out the application frame) Probably not something that is doable. I was hoping that similar to changing the Lightroom Splash screen I could change the PS desktop background to something of my choosing other than black or shades of gray. Oh and I am on an iMac.

Adobe CS5 Trial Setup failure on Mac. Help!

Ok so I've been trying to download the trial for Adobe CS5 Photoshop and have run into some problems on my Mac. Here's where I am in the download process. I went to the site and clicked the download now button for the trial. I open the adobedownloadassistant.dmg on my desktop and double click the install adobe download assistant. I watch the bar on the adobe download assistant install go to completion and then it closes out. Now, from what I understand, at this point the download assistant should pop up and I'm supposed to sign in with my ID but the problem is that this window never pops up.
I noticed one time that it said that a version of adobe AIR could not be found and suggested updating. I went to the Adobe site then and downloaded the latest version of Adobe AIR. When I try to install it I get an error message saying that the Adobe AIR installer application requires a version of Adobe AIR which cannot be found. This is also the same error message I got with the CS5 installer assistant.
Here's a picture of the error message I get when trying to open the adobe AIR installer. Seems like a catch-22 to me.

Adobe CS5 Trial Install Problem

I have tried to install the Adobe Photoshop CS5 trial, but it always comes up with this error, and says Photoshop failed to install, even after reaching 100%.

It's not possible, so forget about it. As for the rest - reinstall Service Pack 3 and possibly other components like the MSInstaller runtime, .NET runtimes or even MS visual Studio 2010 Express. You have something with your DLLs being wrong and hence the installer is messing up operating system detection. Additioanlly, apply any AMD-specific patches and update all your drivers, this is also critical.

Is Adobe CS5.5 working fine with Yosemite ?

I'd like to know if anyone here updated from Mavericks to Yosemite and is using Adobe CS5.5 (Photoshop - I know about the Java thing - Illustrator, Indesign, Acrobat, Dreamweaver…). How does it go ? In case you don't want to install JRE6 at all and simply use JRE8 without symlinking it to the JRE6 either you can do the following:
Copy the Info.plist located at the path named below to e.g. ~/Desktop/:
     /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk.1.8.<…>/Contents/
and then replace
     <key>JVMCapabilities</key>
     <array>
     <string>CommandLine</string>
     </array>
with the following:
     <key>JVMCapabilities</key>
     <array>
     <string>JNI</string>
     <string>BundledApp</string>
     <string>WebStart</string>
     <string>Applets</string>
     <string>CommandLine</string>
     </array>
Afterwards copy the file back to its original location (you need administrator rights). For this change to take effect you need to restart your computer. The dialog for Java 6 should shouldn't appear anymore and Photoshop should launch just fine using JRE8.
On a related note it appears that this plist change sticks even after updates done through the Java Preference Panel in the System Preferences.

Flickering Desktop Background Yosemite

Hello!
I have a 15" MacBook Pro early 2011, recently upgraded OS X to Yosemite 10.10.1,
Specs: Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core i7; Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3; Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB.
I was working with Word and suddenly the keyboard stopped responding. Since then the desktop background has been flickering on and off and applications are working erratically. I´ve tried to fix it by restarting the computer, resetting PRAM, using Terminal to killall Finder, changing the Dashboard setting to Off in System Preferences, and none of these have worked.
I believe it is a problem with the user, since I am able to use my computer if I log in as a guest user.
Is this a bug? How can I fix this?

Since installing Adobe CS5 all other applications operate very slowly, but it may be that the entire operating system is running slowly.

Usually with Adobe, it's the prefs.
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library" then go to Preferences folder and delete or drag to the Desktop all your Adobe in that folder.
If this works, you'll need to reset preferences.
It could also be an item in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items. Remove login items with the "-", you can always add them back.

Will Adobe CS5 run on it OK?

Both of the HP laptops that you mentioned will be quite sluggish in running CS5, even compared to a cheap $400 desktop:
1) Neither of those laptops have more than one single internal hard drive, which is already below Adobe's stated minimum requirements. Adobe requires a minimum of two discrete fast hard drives (no partitions) in order to run CS5 at all. Unfortunately, neither of those HP laptops have an eSATA port at all. (Those HP laptops have two USB 3.0 ports - but USB by itself doesn't support RAID at all.) Nor does either of those two laptops have any provision whatsoever to accommodate nore than the included internal hard drive.
2) Based on the CPU alone, your first choice of a laptop with an i7-2630QM is better - but only if it also has an Nvidia GPU with 1GB or more. The CPU in your second choice, an i5-2410M, is only a dual-core CPU (in fact, all mobile i5's are only dual-core) - and no system (laptop or desktop) with a dual-core CPU performs as well in CS5 as even a mediocre system with a quad-core CPU.
3) Neither of those two HP laptops come with (or is even available with) a GPU that supports MPE GPU acceleration. The first choice has only the integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics while the other comes with an onboard AMD Mobility Radeon GPU. And as we all know, both of those systems would have run CS5 only in MPE software-only mode. There is a plugin to allow CS5 to utilize the QuickSync feature of the first laptop (the second one cannot utilize QuickSync at all because it uses a discrete GPU) - but that would have speeded up only the encoding times (it would not have helped rendering times much if at all).
4) All consumer HP systems - both laptop and desktop - come pre-loaded with a ton of bloatware that cannot be easily uninstalled (or more precisely, software whose uninstallation still leaves behind pieces of it that actually slows down system performance and/or makes it run less stably). Worse, neither laptop includes a system restore disk (all of the restore files are on a locked hard drive partition that can only be accessed by one of HP's authorized service facilities). HP will sell you a recovery/restore disk, but that will cost you an additional fee.
5) Both of those systems come with only 6GB of RAM. In the case of laptops, 8GB is recommended if you're going to run CS5 much. Although the systems theoretically support 16GB of RAM, those two laptops have only two DIMM slots, and there are currently no compatible 8GB modules on the market.
6) Finally, the internal hard drive spins at only 5400 RPM. Laptop hard drives, as a rule, are slower than desktop hard drives (sequential speed wise). You'd be lucky if that 750GB 5400 RPM hard drive can sustain even half the sequential speed of the slowest current-production "Green" desktop hard drive.
As a result, both of those laptops would have been slower in the PPBM5 benchmark than most (if not all) of the desktops on the PPBM5 results list.

IMac very slow, no Dock, Desktop Background cycling every 1 to 5 sec

So i have always had the issue of the main display not coming back on from sleep.... I have given up on trying to fix it so i just deal with it. But i really needed my mac and so forced it to shut down because it seemed to be acting strange and i could not see the main screen just my external monitor.
Anyway when it restarted i now have a very slow machine.... creazy slow. Every click is a delay. My background which normally cycles through the standard images every 30 min does so every 1 to 5 seconds. And i have no Dock.
My machine is an intel iMac.. 27" late 2009, 8 gigs of ram 1 tera of HD. 60 gb free. 2.8 ghz i7
Oh and OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
I have tried resetting pram and plists for the main things including the Dock. I repaired permissions and did a disk repair.
I am kind of stuck.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I tried changing the Dock settings but they dont make any difference. I also tried changing the desktop background settings and they dont do anything either and they do not save their settings when i reboot etc...

Insatallation von Adobe CS5 auf Windows Server 2008 R2

Hallo miteinander!
Hat jemand schon Erfahrungen gemacht mit der Installation von Adobe CS5 auf Windows Server 2008 R2/ Remote Desktop host? Auch im Hinblick auf den Einsatz von Virenscannern?
Über jeden Tipp/ link/ Hinweis/ Anregung usw. bin ich dankbar.

I was able to figure out a solution.
CAUSE:
It appears that the Internet isn’t fully up to date and ready to use EDns -- which is enabled on Windows Server 2008 R2 by default. The solution for this is to disable Edns. Note that this isn’t
a problem for most Windows Server 2008 R2 member servers. It’s only a problem for DNS *servers* that do recursive lookups. i.e. likely only your domain controller will be affected if that is where your DNS Server role exists.
SOLUTION:
To disable EDns, you can do it from the command prompt, or by editing the registry.
Create a DWORD called EnableEDNSProbes and set to 0 in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\DNS\Parameters
Restart the DNS Server service for it to take effect.
