Adobe CS5 bridge.exe keeps disappearing

I reinstalled my pc and went from Vista Premium to Windows 7 Premium. Installed PS CS5 64 bit and 32 bit (work mainly with the 64 bit version) and initially had a lot of problems. The software would abort immediately telling me I had not sufficient rigths (and icons on the desktop would then also disappear). Now I can start the software from the desktop using the option "run as administrator" (I have been logged on as administrator the whole time - am the only user of the pc). A bit annoying but it works (I do not have this problem with any other software). I do, however, still have a problem with bridge. It can only be started from inside PS itself. I made a link on the desktop and it worked at first. Then the icon disappeared and also the exe file could no longer be found in the pathfinder. I updated the software - got the exe file back after reinstallation of the updates but now the same thing happens.
Can anybody tell me what is wrong? I would hate to have to install the software again and have in fact already done this 3 three times so I doubt this will help me.
All other software (and I have plenty) behave normally.

Sclairec which version of Photoshop are you trying to install?  Photoshop CC requires Mac OS 10.7 or later.  You can find the system requirements at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/tech-specs.html.

  • How do i close CS5 Bridge.exe when Bridge is not open?

I can't download updates because Bridge CS5 application manager says "close bridge.exe" when Bridge is not open.

You have Bridge set to "open on startup" so it is running in the background.  To disable this feature it is in advanced preferences.
To solve your imediate problem, open task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) and click on processes tab.  Go down the list and look for any instance of Bridge.exe and close it.

    Todd,
Thanks for the reply. I'm using After Effects CC 12.2.1.5
Here's the screenshot of my View Preview settings:
Also, after further troubleshooting, I can get the sequence to render IF I select resize and enter dimensions outside of the original dimensions. (I'm currently trying to render a 3840 x 2160 QHD comp but I get the same issue with 1920 x 1080 comps)

  • Adobe Premiere Element 10 keeps disappearing

I have read a similar story to mine, but I still am slightly puzzled. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled this program... Still doesn't work. Is 4.5 giga-bytes enough? I heard from another that they bought a new video card, what is that? My memory is on my local disk (C). Please give me some pointers.

Yes, the video (and audio) driver is VERY important to getting PrE to load, and to also run. It relies more heavily on, and interfaces with the video driver, much more than almost any program on a computer, short maybe of extreme gaming, CAD and real 3D work. Most general computer programs can get by with an outdated video driver, and the user will never see a problem - until they crank up a program, like PrE, PrPro, a CAD program, or many of the current games, especially those with advanced graphics.
Now, PrE also creates quite a few "working files," and if there is not adequate HDD real estate for those, the program can crash, or hang.
Many recommend 20 - 40GB's of defragmented free-space just for those working files, but being an old engineer, I like a bigger "safety factor," and recommend 30 -60GB's of defragmented free-space. Also, and especially with limited RAM, Windows needs free space for its Virtual Memory/Page File. This can bring programs to their knees, as well. Personally, with my video-editing machines, I like to first setup a Page File that is about 2.5x my installed RAM (size is less important with a 64-bit OS and much more RAM), that is statically managed, i.e. I set the size. I do this before I install ANY programs, other than the OS. The reason for this is that I want that Page File created on the HDD at bootup near the edge of the platters for fastest access, and also in the same exact spot, each time that I boot up. After I have setup that Page File, I then begin installing programs, and using the computer.
If one leaves the default Page File management setting - Dynamically Managed, as Windows anticipates the usage/size, if one does not have enough free-space, Windows can crash. When starting a program, like PrE, Windows will know that it will need a pretty large Page File, and might get into trouble. Also, the dynamic management takes time, plus CPU cycles, as Windows must try and calculate the size on the fly. Still, HDD real estate can come into play.
Last, there is the performance of the HDD. At about 70% of capacity, performance goes down. The closer to capacity, the more the performance degrades. Also, as capacity is reached, the chance of a catastrophic failure increases.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Adobe Bridge CS5 Update 4.03 thinks bridge.exe is active

Was alerted to the latest update for Photoshop CS5. When I try to run the updater it comes back asking to 'Please close the following applications to continue: Adobe CS5 Bridge (Bridge.exe).
I checked task manager and there is no process active for Bridge.exe, or application.
I have restarted Bridge and closed it, as well as Photoshop in case something didn't close properly, and I still receive the same message. There are no hidden icons open.
I have restarted the PC, no change.
I am running what I think is the latest patch:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 12.0.1 (12.0.1x20100625 [20100625.r.1146 2010/06/25:17:40:00 cutoff; r branch]) x32
Any ideas on how to get around this?

Thanks for the reply, if you read my posting carefully. You'll see there's nothing showing active, was the first place I looked. Sorry still having the same issue, as far as Task Manager, and hidden Icons are concerned, Bridge is not active, but the updater thinks it is. A reboot didn't fix the issue either.
    Regards,
    RB

  • CS5 bridge Crashes Consistently

After the latest update to Windows XP Bridge in CS5 crashes consistently each and every time I move a number of files from one folder to the next.
The files get moved all right, but then Bridge vanishes.
The behavior is the same when I drag files and when I use Edit Cut - Paste.
I cleared the preview/thumbnail cache for all images in the hope that it was a caching issue but that made no difference.
Until this recent update Bridge was very reliable and never crashed.
I thought I could file a problem report with Adobe but there is no option for that. I hope someone here can help.

    Chris,
I don't see a way to attache a file so you get the entire log here:

  • Using windows 8 and trying to install photoshop cs6 but keep getting message to close cs5 bridge

using windows 8 and trying to install cs6 but keep getting message to close adobe bridge cs5 which I do not have open. Is this a bug in windows 8???

bridge.exe is probably running in the background. Trying closing it via the Task Manager.
    See http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-installation-cannot-continue-bridge.html

  • Currently on Production Premium CS4, trialling Photoshop CS5, Bridge CS4 disappears....

I am waiting on the phone to Customer Services as I type this....
I thought it'd be a neat idea to trial CS5 Photoshop (I'm currently on Production Premium CS4).
I did that, and now Bridge CS4 has disappeared.
I didnt' want that.  And when I go to my Adobe CS4 folder under programs, it shows as Adobe Bridge CS4 but when I click on it, I get Bridge CS5
How can I restore this ??
I want to be able to have both installed and the appropriate Bridge to start up depending on whether I'm in CS4 or CS5 (not too much to ask I'd have thought).
    Many thanks,
    Jez

Thanks Curt, that's really helped and saved me time.  By disabling the feature you mention and exiting Bridge CS5, when I go to Photoshop CS4 and invoke Bridge, I do indeed get Bridge CS4 starting and not CS5.
Where I was 'going wrong' was keeping Bridge CS5 running minimized in my system tray which is why even Photoshop CS4 would open it up when invoked from within Photoshop.
    Kind regards,
    Jez

Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Verify that access to ports 80 and 443 are allowed on your network.
Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or photos.apple.com is not blocked by a firewall, or other Internet security setting.
Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps underAdvanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations.
Restore your device while connected to a different network.
    Restore using a different computer.

  • How do I remove Adobe Bridge (Bridge.EXE).

I am unable to install Adobe illustrator Master suite because I get an error message to remove Bridge.EXE, but I can not find it on my PC anyuwhere.  Can anyone help me get this removed?

Click the PDF file (any one), now from the Finder Menu > File choose Get Info
open the section like so, choose Preview (or whatever) and select Change All

A lot more information about your hardware and software is needed.

if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too,
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).

Please do a forum search.  I and others have repeatedly answered this question a whole bunch of times recently.
Bottom line:  the Adobe auto updater is utterly useless in CS5 and prior versions.  You need to download the updates and apply them manually yourself.
I and others have even supplied the links for Mac and Win, which you haven't even bothered to specify.
