Adobe Customization Wiz 8 and Adobe Reader 8.1.2 - where?

I downloaded the Customization Wizard 8 and after sending company info to Adobe email got the Adobe Reader 8.1.2 file. But it's an exe. I thought it would be an msi that I would use Customization Wizard 8 to fine-tune to our company needs and deploy via SMS or Altiris. So what am I missing here? How do I get the msi file?

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb400540
Go to this link. It tells you how. Someone did a lot of work putting all of these how to file together, but on the website it's hard to find them. It would be nice if they had them in a list. This to me seems like and important step, but I had to search the web before finding it on Adobe's site.
I'm looking for more info on the Customization Wizard. Let me know how your install goes. One more question, SMS, how user friendly is it?
Thanks and good luck,
DJ

  • Adobe Customization Wizard 9 and acrobat reader

Im trying to customise the acrobat reader with the Customization Wizard 9 and even if set some option like disable the check for update even after deploying the msi the option still there  i also try to disable the EULA when you first start the program neither ..... still apear the first time i start acrobat reader
    Thanks

As you are installing Adobe Reader 9 over Acrobat 8 then you need not worry about checking those greyed out options.
When you will install Adobe Reader 9, the Reder setup will not uninstall any previous Acrobat 8 version on it own.
So, you can go ahead and install Reader without worrying about these options. The Reader setup will only prompt during installation that whether to make Reader or Acrobat 8 the default viewer of PDF files.
These options have only been provided for the situation when, say,  Acrobat 9 is being installed over Acrobat 8, then it gives the user an option to choose whether to remove previous version of Acrobat or not. Because newer Acrobat versions remove previous Acrobat versions before installation, which is not possible with the Reader setup.
That said, please note that it is not recommended to use Reader and Acrobat on the same machine, Adobe doesn't recommend this.

  • Adobe Reader Acrobat DC: what where they thinking??

I made an Adobe account especially for this posting. I am not someone who complains a lot or writes all over the web about software. But for this new DC thing I make a big exception.
I did build a new PC and after that I also went over to Adobe site to download Adobe Reader. Something was there by default called Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
Mmm, confusing: I don't have or want Acrobat, that's a complete other line of Adobe products. So had to search but no, turns out that for some reason the reader now also is part of the Acrobat line. Plus only DC is offered, nothing else.
    Well okay, download and install.
First impression: looks weird, a way to big tools sidebar too. Ah well, I can disable that. Nope, the sidebar is always there.
Interface and layout: horrible. But okay, I can learn to live with that.
Okay, next step: disable the automatic update. Nope, can not be done, the auto update is always On.
Well okay, lets see if I can get rid of all the "become member" and "Cloud" notifications. Nope, Adobe somehow decided to nag people to death in the Reader so they get a paid account and go into the cloud.
I really don't know what Adobe was thinking when the made this DC thing but it's just horrible. I know the side Toolbar will have the option to be hidden constantly within a month or 3, I know I can disable the Auto update withing Windows Services, I know I can use Windows Registry tweaks to disable things, I know there is a DC Configurator Wizzard to set things.
But it's ridicules that all that is needed to get a normal working, simple PDF Reader!!
And that is my experience for personal use: for my work DC has even more become a completely useless tool with all the things that have to be configured before the users can use it.
Adobe, do mention on your download page that DC is no simple PDF Reader anymore but just another way to generate money by trying to get people to get a Adobe account so they can get more features? Do mention that Adobe Reader as we know it is no more, that it has been replaced by this DC thing?
Sorry Adobe, I uninstalled this DC thing and I am looking for a good and simple alternative for at work. With sadness I say goodbye to Adobe Reader which I used for so many years. Thank you Adobe by rewarding us all with this ... this ... DC Thing

    Hi ,
It seems like you are not happy with the new UI for Acrobat DC.
First of all I would like to tell you that Adobe Reader DC and Adobe Acrobat DC are two different software .
DC is the common thing linked to both the software. The DC ,i.e Document Cloud states the ease of access of the PDF files, that you can view your PDF' from anywhere and from different gadgets such as your phone, laptop and your desktop by just logging to your account .
If you did not find the new interface interesting ,you could fill in the following wish form and report the same to our engineers and they could work on it and see what best could be done for the users .

  • Century gothic displays in adobe reader 8 and not in 9

    Hi
I have created a pdf using adobe livecycle and i have set the address font in my header to Century Gothic. When i view the doc in Adobe reader 8, it shows it exactly the way i want. When i view it in adobe 9, it has changed to arial. Why is this happening? and how can i prevent it from changing when viewed in the different versions of adobe reader?
Also, it doesnt make sense to say that the font is supported in adobe 8 and NOT in 9. Surely capability should be backward compatible?
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    Fatima

    Hi Hitender
The document does not show the correct font in Adobe Reader 9.0. We have now downgraded our adobe reader on the server where we are printing the docs from.  We have tried installing the font onto that server but that was also unsuccessful.
Please let me know if you have any advice for my problem.
    Thanks

  • Error 1625 with Adobe Reader Update on Windows Server 2008 R2 OS

For the last two months when I receive updates to Adobe Reader 9.3 I get Error 1625:  Update failed.  Update not permitted by system policy.   But there is no system policy since this is a stand-alone machine.
Windows Server 2008 R2 is equivalent to Windows 7 OS but has some special security features.  If I could manually download and run this update and by pass the Adobe automated install I might be able to fix the problem by running the update "as administrator" but I think Adobe doesn't give me that choice.
I have uninstalled and re-installed Adobe Reader 9.3 but still get the same result when applying this update.
Adobe reader is working fine, so I would be happy also if Adobe just stopped trying to send me this update.
    Any suggestions?

I did.  When I posted my last response ending in "did not work"  I had a dashed line and
Adobe in there infinite wisdom interpreted that as an  end of message.   So here is the rest
of my last post which was cut off:
So I then tried ʇɐb ɹəuəllıʍ's  solution (the one above your suggestion) - downloading the updates to my desktop and applying them by hand.   That worked.
But this means I may need to download all future updates by hand for this computer.   It's great that ʇɐb ɹəuəllıʍ  posted links for these three updates above,  but I'm wondering how to easily automate getting download links for all future updates since I don't have access to the parent directory http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/.
Please suggest a way I can install all future updates by hand without requesting a special link.  In particular, when you download an update using  Adobe Reader "search for updates", where is that update saved so perhaps I could run it by hand instead of the automated way.

  • Adobe Reader 9 Print Freeze - includes Fix

Since installing Adobe Reader 9 on one computer, I cannot print a .pdf file from that computer.
The print process freezes at the small "Progress" pop-up (0 progress) - eventually freezing the computer altogether - forcing a computer reset.
Windows XP Pro SP3, network printers connected to another computer on a home network. Printers are an HP Laserjet and an HP Inkjet. Printer drivers are up to date.
    - All other printing, with other file types, works fine from that computer.
    - Prior to installing Reader 9, the 8 and 7 Reader versions printed fine from this computer.
    - The same .pdf files print fine from another computer.
I've also tried uninstalling Reader 9, and reinstalling it; I also tried uninstalling Reader 9 and re-installing Reader 8, and even re-installing Reader 7. Whatever the problem, it has now disabled .pdf printing from any version of Adobe Reader on that computer, where it had previously worked.
Again, this ".pdf print freeze" problem is only on this computer, and only after installing Adobe Reader 9.
    The fix:
Uninstall Adobe Reader 9. Restore computer to a date prior to installing Adobe 9. (Just unistalling didn't do it.)
Install prior version of Adobe Reader - 8.13 works here.
I can print .pdf files again.
I had one .pdf file that I had saved when I had Adobe Reader 9 installed, and still can't print that one.
I got tried of trying every other "Fix" I could find - none worked. The real fix would have been not installing Adobe Reader 9 in the first place, but maybe this will help someone.

You may want to try the windows installer cleanup utility.
    Download the utility http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

  • Adobe Reader 9 " An internal error occurred"

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, same error
User does not have administrative rights on machine.
    Reader works under admin login.
What registry keys will user need access to?

    Forgot about installer cleanup.
I fixed it a different way.
First I tried to repair the install, this gave me another error.  Something about an invalid drive.  Gave me drive letter, but nothing was mapped to it.
Turns out there was a problem in the registry pointing the users' My Music and My Pictures folder to this non-existent mapped drive.
I modified the registry so they were going to the correct paths.  Google "adobe reader invalid drive" is where I found which registry keys to modify.
Ran the repair again after that, no errors.  Now Adobe reader seems to be working fine, even without admin rights.

  • Problems getting a licence to redistribute the free versions of Flash & Adobe Reader

I am trying to register for a licence to distribute the free versions of flash and adobe reader in the school where I work. I have filled in the online application form twice now approximately 2 weeks ago and I have not had any reply back.  I have spoken to customer service via live chat and they have said that it is a technical issue and I should post it on the forum.  can anyone please assist?
    Thanks
    David

Unfortunately, being a user to user forum, with the occasional employee, we really can't do much of anything with distribution licensing. Hopefully, an Adobe employee will pick up this thread and make a contact, but that's the best that can be expected here.

  • Whats the latest version adobe reader.

Whats the latest adobe reader version.
    From where can we download.

Latest version of Reader which is available is 9.3.4.
There are two things: Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat which are both different products of Adobe. One is free and other is paid.
Adobe Acrobat is software designed to view, create, manipulate and manage files in Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF)
Adobe Reader is used to view, print and few other things.
So Adobe Reader is used only for reading a pdf file and is free, whereas Acrobat is a paid software with many additional functionalities.

  • Need help with Adobe Reader 11.0.0.8 and Group Policy Objects

I am trying to deploy Adobe Reader 11.0.0.8 using Adobe Reader.
I am using the AcroRead.msi I found in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Setup Files\{AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-AB0000000001}
    HOWEVER
Instead of installing 11.0.0.8 it installs 11.0.0.0
I have not had anyone complain about it asking for an update. But I'm sure it's only a matter of time. (I know about the customization which could prevent the updates, but I can't figure out how to get the correct version installed is the issue not the updates).
So if I run the Setup.exe it ends up installing 11.0.0.8 but AcroRead.msi I think only installs 11.0.0.0
Obviously you can't give a GPO an .exe so it's a closed loop. You can't use an .exe to install the proper version. And you can't install the proper version because you can't use an .exe
You can only use the .msi which apparently only does 11.0.0.0
I've been trying this that, have done jumping jacks and back flips trying to fix this (tried different versions, different approaches to this, nothing seems to work)
Need some help. THIS IS WAYYYYYYY WAYYYYYYYYYYY Overcomplicated btw, shouldn't be this complicated for something so mundane.

A couple of approaches and all involve a bit of work.
    Three steps:
Do the install of the 11.0.0 MSI at the command line
Then follow it with the 11.0.07 Updater MSP at the command line
Finally the 11.0.08 Security Patch MSP at the command line.
    AIP
Create the AIP from the three files above then then run the MSI from the command line.

  • How to disable 'Enable JavaScript' and 'Display PDF in browser' in Adobe Reader 9.1 msi?

I'd like to how to disable 'Enable JavaScript' and 'Display PDF in browser' in Adobe Reader 9.1 msi.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    NeoChang:
You can modify the installation package using the Adobe Customization Wizard to toggle the "Display PDF in Browser" but I have not found a setting to disable JavaScript from the Wizard. I have created a script which makes the changes, but it has to be run for every user since that info is stored in the User hive of the Windows registry.
    Disable JavaScript:
    REG ADD "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\JSPrefs" /v bEnableJS /d 0 /t REG_DWORD /f
    Disable Browser Integration:
    REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals" /v bBrowserIntegration /d 0 /t REG_DWORD /f

  • Adobe Customization Wizard X doesn't set Adobe Reader X to be default when customizing Acrobat X

I've recently started working with Adobe Customization Wizard X.
I've got Adobe Reader X customized and it's already installed all computers. Now, I'm working on customizing Adobe Acrobat X. During the customization, I only have the following 2 options:
    1. Installer will decide which product will be the default
    2. Make Acrobat the default PDF viewer
Choosing the 1st option, makes Acrobat as the default PDF viewer. In other words, I don't get an option to keep Adobe Reader X as the default on the existing computer.
Found a blog in Adobe site which suggests running Adobe Reader installation again after Acrobat is installed. Although it works, it just isn't a good solution (my opinion).
    http://blogs.adobe.com/pdfitmatters/2011/03/installing-acrobat-x-and-reader-x-on-the-same- machine.html
Can you advise what're the registry setting that I can set during the Acrobat X customization so that it doesn't become the default PDF viewer.

    Hi Ben,
Here's what I am trying to accomplish I had Acrobat Standard v10.1.4 scripted so I can deploy it to a Citrix Server (XENAPP6) via SCCM 2007 I have at least 50 licenses of Acrobat Standard deployed to 50 users. All of our Citrix Servers have Adobe Reader v10.* installed as our default pdf viewer. There are other apps that are deployed to this Citrix Server and I wanted to make sure that pdf files open on Adobe Reader instead of Acrobat Standard.
I had to change the installer tables directly so I don't have to get it re-scripted to use this command line. Is it a best practice not to change the isntaller table?
