Adobe Customization Wizard: "remove previous versions" greyed out?

Hi,
I am preparing an MST, with the Adobe Customization Wizard,  to customize Adobe Reader 9.5.0 setup, and I see the "remove previous versions" checkboxes are both greyed out.
Reader's is blank while Acrobat's is checked - nevertheless, installing over a previous Reader, it correclty replaces it. But what about Acrobat?
Can't I install Reader 9.5.0 on a computer where, i.e., Acrobat Pro 9.4.0 is installed, without removing it?
thanks,
fabio

After testing some more, I can see that the greyed-out options are not taken in account at all. Even installing on a computer where the Pro is, it is not removed. I guess these options are only available for Acrobat, then, and not for the Reader.

  • Acrobat Customization Wizard removing previous versions

I would like to configure the Acrobat install to remove all previous version of Acrobat and Reader unless Reader is the latest version. Reader X is already installed on most computers and I would like Reader to stay as the default. How does the installer decide what is the default?

According to the Wizard doc, you can remove all Acrobat and/or Reader versions, but not "all but. . . "
There are some properties that relate to default PDF viewer control described in the admin guide: http://www.adobe.com/go/acrobatitinfo

  • Remove previous versions of Reader greyed out in Adobe Customization Wizard 9

Hi everyone.  I'm trying to make an SMS pushable custom MSI with the Adobe Customization Wizard 9, to roll out Acrobat Reader 9 to all my PCs.  The big reason i wanted to use the ACW9 was so I could force it to uninstall all the old versions of Reader on my computers, which i have a lot of different versions of 7 and 8 out there.  When I go to  the screen in ACW9, the option to remove previous versions of Reader is greyed out and unchecked, and the rmeove previous versions of Acrobat is greyed out and checked (which is what i dont want to do).  Any ideas how to get this to work right?  I have both older versions of Reader and Acrobat Pro on my computer i'm using to build it, so it isn't that.

It doesn't seem Adobe really cares about supporting IT personnel. Thanks for a tool that doesn't work properly and you provide no support for.
What I've found is that it will remove previous Acrobat reader versions! So it's not harmless when that option is checked and greyed out.

  • "Remove previous versions of Reader" is muted out?

Remove previous versions of Reader is grayed out and I need to do a rolback on a lot of machines, to many to do manually.
The last time I needed to perform a rollback was in v.9 and it was fine.
    What am I missing here?
Better ways to perform a rollback? Standard scripting solutions have not panned out via SCCM. Thank you.

I dont think that you would be able to achieve the same with the customization wizard.
Can you let me know how exactly is it that you deploy the updates to the systems? Is it via a GPO policy or is it via SCCM/SCUP model? I would be able to suggest you a few options based on the same.

  • I just created an AIP version of Adobe 11.0.10, applied our settings with the .mst through Adobe Customization Wizard.Online Services and Features Issues

I just created an AIP version of Adobe 11.0.10, applied our settings with the .mst through Adobe Customization Wizard. But something is blocking it from opening the software, it just flickers the windows explorer, if I uncheck all the settings for the Online Services and Features it lets me open it but i can't skip the registration screen. Has something changed with this version of 11.0.10?

Having the same problem here. Even if not creating an AIP, and instead doing a standard install of AcroPro.msi and patching with 11.0.10's msp, it'll result in a registration loop that can't be skipped.
Applying an Adobe ID allows for getting through the screen, but obviously, in an enterprise environment, that's not ideal.
This issue was something that I experienced with 11.0.07, and it went away with 11.0.08 and 11.0.09, but seems to have returned with 11.0.10.
Previously, I was able to get around the issue by clearing out some files from the Common Files\Adobe directory, particularly Adobe PCD and SLCache, as well as including the Adobe regids stored in ProgramData, but that fix no longer works with this latest version.
If REGISTRATION_SUPPRESS is set to YES, the result is Acrobat closing and opening in a loop, since it can't get through the registration screen.
I'm currently investigating for a registry key that might possibly applied to circumvent this issue, but I haven't found one yet.
For Adobe Acrobat 8, it used to be stored in the following two places, per Prompted to register repeatedly | Acrobat 8 | Windows
         32-bit Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\AdobeViewer
         64-bit Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\AdobeViewer
However, the registry structure seems to have changed since then.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard 9 and acrobat reader

Im trying to customise the acrobat reader with the Customization Wizard 9 and even if set some option like disable the check for update even after deploying the msi the option still there  i also try to disable the EULA when you first start the program neither ..... still apear the first time i start acrobat reader
    Thanks

As you are installing Adobe Reader 9 over Acrobat 8 then you need not worry about checking those greyed out options.
When you will install Adobe Reader 9, the Reder setup will not uninstall any previous Acrobat 8 version on it own.
So, you can go ahead and install Reader without worrying about these options. The Reader setup will only prompt during installation that whether to make Reader or Acrobat 8 the default viewer of PDF files.
These options have only been provided for the situation when, say,  Acrobat 9 is being installed over Acrobat 8, then it gives the user an option to choose whether to remove previous version of Acrobat or not. Because newer Acrobat versions remove previous Acrobat versions before installation, which is not possible with the Reader setup.
That said, please note that it is not recommended to use Reader and Acrobat on the same machine, Adobe doesn't recommend this.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard 9 - Direct Editor Question

I am getting ready to mass deploy Adobe Reader 9 through a login script to about 150 people and I'm using the Adobe Customization Wizard 9 to tweak the install.  What I was hoping to do was make a few small changes to the install and add a couple of toolbar buttons (rotate clockwise and rotate counter-clockwise) and set the default zoom to 100% instead of automatic.
I have been looking at the Direct Editor portion of CW9 to make these changes but I'm not familiar enough with it to get to the right place.  Does anyone have any experience with this to possibly direct me to the right area of DE or maybe even know how to set those two options above?
Any help would be appreciated as always.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard X

When I open the AcroRead.msi (v10) package with Customization Wizard 10, the installation option has "Remove previous version of Acrobat" enabled and (but not Remove Previous version of Reader), and the Shortcuts still refer to v9.
How do I change the defaults to customize Reader X instead of Acrobat 10?

    Hi,
I haven't had a chance to see if there are Wizard bugs for this feature, but here's a tip that will make it not matter: Because the trust framework has been evolving so rapidly, the feature in the latest version of Reader is more rich than the Wizard is able to configure. What I would do is configure an installed version of the product via the UI and then use the Wizard's Registry drag and drop feature to set up the installer the way you want. So:
Go to Prefs > Security (Enhanced).
Set all your privileged locations, enable enhanced security, decide whether to trust Win OS (IE) trust zones, etc. Note that most IT folks already manage site trust via IE, so one checkbox may get you what you need.
Open the Wizard and go to the Registry feature.
Drag the registry folder called cTrustManager to the target computer.
Now you've copied your settings to the installer.
BTW, 10.1.2 is going out in a few days and contains many improvements you may want. For example, trusting Win OS sites now only includes "Trusted Sites." With 10.1.2, it also includes "Local Intranet" zones. There are many other improvements as well.
Next week new versions of these docs will go out:
Preference Reference: A dictionary of 450 configurable preferences contained in the AIM AIR app.
Application Security Guide: details about each security feature with a change history.
    Admin Guide.
Get them all here (after Tuesday): http://www.adobe.com/go/acrobatitinfo.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard XI with Reader XI-not all options are available

I'm using the Adobe Reader XI redistributable (yes, I got the license and special download, etc.)
I've followed the Enterprise administration kit which makes me extract and build an AIP.  All is well
What I notice is that the Customization Wizard has some options grayed out.
For example, the DOCS for the customization wizard say that I can fill out username, organization, etc.
    But those are grayed out.
Also, I cannot select the Installation Options -> Remove previous version of Acrobat (it's grayed out).  I can only select the Remove all versions of Reader.
    Any idea why this is?
I point it to the AIP reader .MSI File when i built the customization kit.

You should post this on the Enterprise Deployment forum but  the username, organization, etc... are for Acrobat only.  The ability to uninstall Acrobat is for Acrobat only.  It would be a bad thing for Reader to uninstall a more capable product like Acrobat Standard or Acrobat Pro no matter what the version.

  • Advanced Search (Ctrl+Shift+F) broken with Protected View = All Files Adobe Customization Wizard XI

I've updated Adobe Reader to version 11.0.09 and it was discovered that the Advanced Search (Ctrl+Shift+F) reports back errors on all words searched inside PDF document/
    Reproduce:
    1. Use Adobe Customization Wizard XI
    2. Create a MST file for the Base Adobe Reader 11.0.0 MSI (AdbeRdr11000_en_US.msi)
    3. Under Security -> Protected View -> (Set to ALL FILES)
    4. Save MST file
    5. Install Adobe Reader XI using created MST File and then Install AdbeRdrUpd11009.msp
    6. Open any PDF document and search for words using advanced search: (Ctrl+Shift+F) All searches return errors unable to display search.
The error can be reproduced and only occurs on Adobe Reader 11.0.09. None of the previous patches of Adobe had this issue.
The fix actually requires to remove and re-install Adobe Reader but with Protected View=OFF
Please can you confirm bug and report any solution or workaround so that Advanced Search works with Reader 11.0.09?
    Thanks

    Hi vmartin01,
I tried to check at my end and it works fine at my end.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard 8 question

I'm using the Adobe Customization Wizard 8,
    when i operation "Installation Options",
i want choose"Remove previous version of Reader" this checkbox,
but this options can not choose, any one can tell me,what can i to do?
    thanks a lot,

Extract the Adobe Reader 8 installation filesExtract the Adobe Reader 8 installation files from the compressed executable:
    Download the AdbeRdr_en_US.exe.
    Choose Start > Run.
In the Open text box, type: "%UserProfile%\Desktop\AdbeRdr80_en_US.exe" -nos_ne.
    Click OK.
When the Adobe Reader 8 Setup screen clears, choose Start > Run.
In the Open text box, type: %temp%.
Drag the Adobe Reader 8 folder to your desktop. This folder contains AcroRead.msi and Data1.cab files needed for installation.
The Setup.ini is within the .EXE you have to extract. I just had to work on this today and came across your post. The above should bring some light on things.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard 9 - IT Deployment of Reader

The link below neglects to mention that this IT Deployment software requires SMS or Systems Management Server, a seperate and already outdated software.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3993
I was very dissapointed to finally get to the very end of this project to find this out, as you can tell from reading the link above, there is no mention of needing a seperate software to make this work.
I have used multiple other installation pushing software that did not require a seperate module or component to accomplish the task of installing software and custom configurations to remote workstations.
    Am I missing something here?
I have Server 2008, do I really need to purchase the new SMS module to make this Deployment tool work?

  • Adobe Reader 8.2 not working on Adobe Customization Wizard 8

I tried creating a transform file from Adobe Reader 8.2 using Adobe Customization Wizard 8. However, the tool won't generate the transform and is looking for Setup.ini.
I looked again at the installer that I got and it is now a single msi file unlike the previous releases which is a compressed Setup.exe that I used to decompress and get the msi, cab file and the setup.ini.
Anyone know how to get the compressed Setup.exe version of Adobe Reader 8.2 or how will it work with the Adobe Customization Wizard 8?

    Thanks for the reply.
Since I have previous deployment of the application, I just edited the old Setup.ini that I have. here's what I edited:
    [Product]
msi=AdbeRdr820_en_US.msi  --> this is the part that that customization wizard is looking for and should be the same name as the msi installer.
We are using Marimba for deployment, The Customization Wizard helps a lot in generating the transforms that I need for Adobe Reader.
