Adobe digital editions - Install okay but doesn't want to open?

Hi, I downloaded ADE on my computer, the installation is okay, but when i try to open it, a window opens saying something like (my message is in french) : "Adobe Digital editions 4.0 encountered a probleme and must close. Please let Microsoft know". And then i clicked on "send the errors' message".
I tried to install it via Chrome, explorer, mozilla, same thing.
I bought an ebook on the chapitre.com's website and can't open it without ADE.
Could anyone help me?
Thanks!

Sydneybling it does sound like your security software is interfering with the process of installing and utilizing your Adobe Creative applications.  I would recommend that you try temporarily disabling your security software and utilizing the directions listed at Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html to install InDesign CC.

I've searched the forum and found three other people who had this issue...but the question was not answered. Can anyone help me?
I've followed the troubleshooting guidelines to no avail. (e.g. uninstall previous versions, empty trash, manually re-install Digital Editions). I am running OS X 10.8.5.

  • Problem opening Adobe Digital Editions 4.0

I have installed Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 but when I try to open it it gives an error - encountered a problem and will be closed PLEASE HELPProb

I'm not sure about the Kobo, but many ereaders show similar messages when connected.  While they are connected you cannot do anything on the reader directly,  you can only do things via the PC.  (Most cameras seem to work that way as well.)  So probably the Kobo is working correctly.
What should happen is that while that message is showing on the Kobo, the Kobo shows up in Library view on ADE.
Should be ok with v1.7.2 or v2.0; but v2.0 has lots of bugs that can stop it installing properly or working properly if you do once get it installed.
When the Kobo is plugged in and showing that message:
Does it show up as a device on your ADE 1.7.2?
Does it show up as a device on Windows Explorer?
What OS are you on?  ADE2.0 has issues with XP and Vista: see http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/installing-digital-editions-20-windows.html

  • I successfully installed Adobe Digital Edition but the application will not open

I installed Adobe Digital Edition for Windows on a Windows 7 PC.  It successfully installed, but the application will not open.  I double click on the icon and it gives the borders, but never opens.  I have waited 30 minutes and still nothing.

    It is on Windows 8.

  • Adobe Digital Editions Quit Unexpectedly

    Hi there,
I can't open my book from Abode Digital Editions. When I go to Adobe Digital Additions Library and click on the book I purchased, a box pops up saying, "Adobe Digital Editions quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically." Then when I click on the "Reopen" button, I am automatically taken back to the Adobe Digital Editions Library where the cycle repeats itself. I have seen multiple reports of this same issue from other users in this form. I have called Adobe for support and can't seem to find an answer so far. I would LOVE to have this sorted out so I can use my Kobo and read the books I have purchased. Anyone out there in internet land who can help me, I would appreciate this sooooooo much.
    Thank you!

Same problem here.  I downloaded and installed ADE 4.0.3 just to check out a library e-book using DRM on my Mac OS X Yosemite.  ADE crashed every time I attempted to open that book with a memory address exception.  I had no problems opening the default book that comes with the reader though.  Looked at iTunes reviews of ADE and Mac users have been complaining about this serious bug since February!  What a major fail by Adobe.
I took the suggestion in this thread of downgrading to ADE 3.0.  I still had the library's e-book in my library but was now getting a E_ACT_NOT_READY error each time I tried to open it.  After some googling, I figured out I needed to reset my authorization token by doing Command-Shift-D.  But after regenerating my authorization token, I got a E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER error.  Now I think I need to get the library to reset the authorization token for the book since my token has changed.  I dropped them a note informing them Adobe Digital Editions 4.0.3 doesn't work on Yosemite and asked them to reset the authorization.  I've removed the book from my ADE library and will hopefully be able to download and start reading it next week.

  • Ebooks from Sony PC Reader to Adobe Digital Editions

I have a Sony PRS-T1. I also have Adobe Digital Editions installed on my computer. My Husband has a Kobo. When I purchase ebooks from various book stores they are automatically put into Sony PC Reader. When my husband wants ro read these books, I add them to ADE and then drop them onto his ereader (which appears as a book shelf). Recently when I have done this he has been unable to open the ebook on his device. Now I am noticing that when I try to put the ebook onto ADE, it gives me an error message that the "document is licensed for a different device". How do I fix this?
My understanding is that I can add the book to up to 6 devices, I am just trying to add it to a second device, and this has worked perfectly in the past????
Is there any way to avoid using Sony PC Reader ( I don't like it) and just use ADE to up load ebooks from the retailer and then to my Sony and the Kobo???

Unfortunately, the error comes from ADE reading the ID file of the ebooks
and then comparing it to the current ID.  That's the only time the error is
generated.  And it's possible that something has screwed up due to a change
    that seemed unrelated.
Let's take this a step further.
If something 'changed' recently, did you log into the Sony Reader Store in
that time frame?  Sony has updated their software, and that can occur
    without you seeing anything happening.
Have you been able to open any of the affected ebooks before?  Where did
you download them from - and if it was Sony Reader Store, did you put them
    into the Reader library?
Did you know that Sony tells us the PRS-T1 is not supported under ADE,
while ADE says it is?  I don't know how to rectify that.
Did you register the T1 with Sony using your current Adobe ID? (you
probably did but I had to ask)
Often, I forget a detail that, when I remember it, gives me the key to the
answer.  I've been doing that for a number of years, but my wife doesn't
give me credit for any of them.

Digital editions 2.0 will downlaod books but will not allow me to transfer to my e-reader.  It does not show the e-reader in the left hand side as it should.  Also each time I use it it asks to authorise my computer.

  • Transferring Adobe Digital Editions content between computers

I purchased an ebook in .pdf format and installed it on my office desktop computer about a year ago. Today I've installed Adobe Digital Editions on my laptop, copied the ebook to the laptop, and am trying to read it there. No luck. Every time I click on the book's .pdf file, the computer takes me to the Adobe Digital Editions install page. I've authenticated the laptop in Adobe. The ebook does not appear on my Bookshelf.
Any clues how I access the content that I've already purchased?
    Thanks!

What is your operating system?  What is your installed Reader version?
You have downloaded the PDF to your local disk, but when you try to open it, it opens a browser window?

  • Forgot adobe id on desktop Adobe Digital Edition

    Hi all,
Is there a way to display my adobe id on the desktop Adobe Digital Edition install?  I registered with it a long time ago and forgot about the id.  Recently I downloaded an epub book onto desktop but now I'm interested in transferring it to my android tablet.  Not being able to recover the adobe id on the desktop means that I can't authorize my android properly; I also can't deauthorize my desktop and start again because I'll lose the book.
    Any ideas, guys?  Much appreciated!

oh wow i totally missed the Library > Authorize Computer... option, and it shows the wizard for first time authorization... which makes me begin to wonder if I had *ever* registered my computer with an id.  But if I had never authorized my computer, how is adobe supposed to know that the license has already been granted to another user?  Because that's what the adobe client on my android (registered to a new adobeId) tells me.  Is anyone able to view their own adobe id by accessing Library>Authorize Computer...?

  • I have a Kobo N416  E-Reader. It is no longer supported by Kobo and is outdated. I was told that I can use Adobe Digital Editions Desktop App to download book to this Kobo N416 E-Reader . How do I do this ? Thanks

Question;  How do I download Ebooks to my Kobo N416 e-reader using Adobe Digital Editions App ? I have already tried to get help from Kobo Techs but they say the Kobo N416 E-Reader is no longer supported by Kobo and is outdated. Kobo told me to use Adobe Digital Editions to download the books I bought on Kobo to my Kobo N416 E-Reader. I have already contacted Adobe Digital Editions for help but they could not help me and told me to go to Adobe Forums.

I didnt't say that our business is using Linux Desktops. I wrote, our main clientele is. And what our customers do like to use is something we cannot control...
    >What difference does it make to you if Adobe releases a new version of Reader that is not supported on Linux?
a new Adobe Reader version that's supported on Linux would be nice. a dialogue between Adobe and Linux developers would be nice...
    >As long as the old versions can open the files correctly, that's all that matters, no?
No, not if our staff is trained to use the newest Adobe Acrobat (trainings are usually for the newest versions) and uses that to produce forms. Now the files open correctly. But what will be in some months or years? Do people working on Linux do have to print the forms then again to fill in?
So do you recommend that we stop the process of producing electronic forms and stay with paper-fill-in forms? Is that the goal of Adobe? (maybe not so clever for your "financial viability"?!?!? ... ein schuss ins eigene bein?!?!)
    >Adobe is a public company and therefore it's not going to maintain a version of its software at great cost if it's not financially viable. It's as simple as that...
So it is to be interpreted that Adobe is interested in killing Linux cause if users cannot work with let's say forms, they will have to switch to something that can do that for them...
We definitely don't want to force Windows or Mac on our clientele. So as far as I get it, we will go back to paper forms and terminate our licence agreements with Adobe and deinstall it...

  • Ereader won't show up in adobe digital editions

How do I get my black pandigital ereader to show up in adobe digital editions?

I see the same behavior when opening your sample epub. No cover shows on ADE. I opened your epub on Dreamweaver (after zip/unzip) and it doesn't show the image on split view, unless I preview it on a browser. So, there's is something going on with your image I cannot pinpoint. The only way I can have it work is opening the image on Pint (of all applications!) and save it as JPG. When I use this new saved image as cover it shows in ADE. This is the difference between the two images:
    1) original image
        size 2.33 MB
       color space: YCCB
       chroma subsampling: 4:4:4:4
        Bit depth: 32
    2) resaved on Pint
        size 1.24 MB
       color space: YUV
       chroma subsampling: 4:2:0
        Bit depth: 24
To the naked eye I don't see any difference between the two photos. I'm posting these data for others to analyze. I cannot figure out why one will not show in ADE and the other will.
