Adobe Digital editions won't open

I''ve installed ADE but it won't open and I can't open an acsm file with it.  In either case I immediately get the
"Adobe Digital Editions and encountered a problem and must close".  I've searched several message boards and see many complaints about the intaller not opening or the installer not working properly but that is NOT the problem I'm having.  The program itself will not open after being succesfully installed.

Your English is excellent.
I'm reminded of an international conference my brother-in-law went to.
Someone asked a question in bad English.
A pompous English person complained and said 'The language of this conference is English'
A Dane replied, 'No, the official language of this conference is broken English'.
~~~
By the 'old black one' I guess you mean ADE (Adobe Digital Editions) v1.7.2.
When ADE2.0 doesn't work, that is the one I usually suggest as it is much more reliable, but sounds as if you have tried it.
Just in case, link below.
~~~
I suggest you
> Uninstall all copies of ADE.
> If you don't have safe copies of your books, make a backup of any books first.
> Check for any folder left behind and delete it. eg
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Adobe\Adobe Digital Editions
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Digital Editions
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Digital Editions 2.0
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Adobe\Adobe Digital Editions 2.0
C:\Users\<your Windows username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Digital Editions
C:\Users\<your Windows username>\Documents\My Digital Editions
It may not be practicable to keep your old library structure, I don't know how important that is too you.
Similarly any notes and annotations.
> Try again ...
Reinstall ADE.  (I'd use 1.7.2 as more reliable, but 2.0 if there any new features you really need)
Run ADE and remove any memory it may have of authorizations (ctrl-shift-D and respond to prompts)
It often half remembers and confuses things.
Restart ADE
Authorize ADE with your Adobe ID.

Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

  • Adobe digital edition doesn't open anymore

    hello. my adobe digital edition doesn't open anymore. I have a black screen ( or sometimes a white screen ) . I don't want to  re-install it because i I don't want to  loose all my e-books i've already.

    Yes, Acrobat 8 does not support Image Capture (ICA). Only way to scan using Acrobat is through TWAIN. Please contact HP to find out if they provide TWAIN driver for this scanner on Mavericks.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Digital Edition doesn't Open!

    The adobe digital edition just stopped opening suddenly.  Uninstalling and Reinstalling, and restarting the computer didn't help.  How to proceed? Thank you!

    Please have a look at the similar thread, Authorizing my nook. Hope the solution mentioned in this thread solves your problem.

  • Adobe digital editions will not open

    I all of a sudden keep having this error pop up every time I try and open Adobe Digital Editions. It used to work fine and suddenly won't anymore. The computer is using windows 7 home premium 64 bit operating system. I can't even even put books on my kobo anymore Help please?

    There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
    (You can have them both installed at once if you like.)

  • Adobe Digital Editions won't prompt to authorize e-reader.

    I want to authorize my new Nook WIFI (and my WIFI is down).  I downloaded and installed Adobe Digital Editions, created an Adobe ID and authorized my computer.  I have downloaded books to my computer.  With ADE open, I plugged in my Nook. ADE detects it but DOES NOT ask to activate.  I pressed Ctrl +shift+E.  Unplugged the nook and replugged it.  Under J drive I opened the Nook drive and deleted the file entitled adobe.digital.editions.  I closed it, plugged off, plugged in the nook. (As customer service instructed)  It still does not prompt to authorize. I have dragged books to the Nook in ADE.  I can see the book titles on my reader but when I try to open it: User not activated. Can anyone help me?

    Not sure if you will get an answer if you ask in the ADE forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_digital_editions

  • Adobe Digital Edition Freezes after opening .ascm file

    I just downloaded Adobe Digital Edition 4 for my computer, and I've authorized my computer and the program already. When I tried to open the .ascm file my ebook's from, the file would have the contents downloaded, but the program would just freeze and nothing shows up.I can't click or do anything on Adobe, and the only way for me to shut it down is by using task manager.
    Has anyone else have this problem, and if you do, how did you fix it?

    Can you please specify your OS and IE details(if you are using window)

  • Adobe Digital editions won't recognize my Kobo?

    Why won't the library in Adobe Digital Editions recognize my Kobo?

    There might be two parts to the answer.  First, from what you saw, you can
    get ebooks to ADE without the ereader attached.  The ereader might not be
    supported by ADE, and because you've 'been through the steps several
    times', I think that is probably the reason.
    Second, the ebook you're attempting to transfer (which is what I'm reading
    into your wording) may be DRM-protected, and may not be transferrable.  You
    can check this by looking at the Item Info of the ebook.  When you're in
    Library mode, put your cursor on the small arrow next to the ebook name.  A
    drop-down menu will appear, and you can choose 'Item Info' from the list.
    Click on that, and a screen will appear showing you where the ebook is and
    the properties assigned by the publisher to it.  If the 'copy' parameter
    says no, then you have your answer.
    Hope this helps!

  • Sony reader de-installation messes with adobe digital editions?

    after sony reader programme took over my whole computer I removed the programme. unfortunately now adobe digital editions won't read any books any more. I remove and then reInstalled but it isn't helping at all. anyone know how to fix this?

    When you have ADE (digital editions) open with  "bookshelves" page with a "Getting Started with Adobe Digital Editions" booklet in it,
    enter cmd-shift-U, or menu/Help/Authorize Computer.
    That will ask for your Adobe ID and password and authorize the computer.
    Once that has been done you shouldn't need to do it again.
    Sometimes you do need to if things go wrong, but you certainly shouldn't have to do it at all regularly.
    When that has been done, plug in the Kobo; it should show up in the left pane of ADE.
    Use "menu/Help/Authorize Device" and that will authorize your Kobo with the Adobe ID from the Mac.
    You can then copy books by drag-dropping onto the Kobo within ADE

  • Is PRS-950 Compatible with Adobe Digital Edition?

    I was trying to check out books from my local public library and then transfer it to my new PRS-950 but the Adobe Digital Edition won't recognize the Reader, so I cannot authorize the reader with Adobe ID. How do I fix this problem? I also have the Sony Reader Library, which does not import the .acsm file downloaded from the local public library website. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    When you download the acsm file from the public library (ebook epub format), choose to Open it. That will cause Adobe Digital Editions to automatically start up and download the book. To find out where the file was placed, go to the Reading/Item Info menu in Adobe Digital Editions. My books were placed in /My Documents/My Digital Editions folder. Now go to Sony Reader Library to the File/Import Files menu, to the directory where Adobe Digital Editions saved your epub file, select the file and now it's in the Sony Reader Library and you have whatever time the library gave you to read it (2 weeks in my case). Hope this helps.

  • Downloaded books while on vacation, now can't use Adobe Digital Editions at home

    I took my Kobo on vakay with me and it was awesome. Except, now that I'm back home my Adobe Digital Editions won't let me transfer new books I buy from online onto my Kobo.
    So, what do I do? I have a Mac OS X 10.4

    There's not enough information here (ie the specific error message you get when you try to open up a book), to really say what's going on.
    I would suggest that you open up a support case ( http://www.adobe.com/support/digitaleditions and click on "Submit a web case" ), as you can give them more information over email, than you probably want to give out on an open forum.

  • Error message in adobe digital editions

    Hi.
    I am getting this message in Adobe Digital Editions when I open an epub I made
    "the document appears to have minor errors that might cause it to be displayed incorrectly"
    The epub is displaying fine. I checked in Adobe, Sony, FBReader, and Calibre.
    The html and css is valid. No warnings. Perfectly valid. All of it.
    Epubcheck gives it no warnings or errors.
    Some of the chapter titles in the table of contents are pretty long. Could that be a problem?
    I have no idea how else to check it to find out what could be causing this error. Does anyone have any idea?
    Thanks.

    I had this same problem.  epubcheck that I have on my desktop said no errors, but ADE would give the "minor errors" message.  I put some serious dents in my forehead from pounding it on the desk.
    I uploaded my ePUB to http://www.threepress.org/document/epub-validate/ and let it validate against schemas that I don't have and it gave me the clue that I needed.  Because I had exported my book from MS-Word using their awful HTML export and then (through a series of ordeals) converted it to XHTML and cleaned up all the uglies.  But, there was one piece I forgot to fix.  The encoding value in the top-level xml element. It was set to Windows CP1252.  It has to be UTF-8 or UTF-16.  When I changed the encoding, I had to fix some of the quote marks that I had missed in earlier passes.
    After making the encoding change and the final cleanup, I now have my book on my nook.
    I hope this helps someone else in the future.
    Eric
