    Camera Raw 6.3 update details here:http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2010/12/lightroom-3-3-and-came ra-raw-6-3-now-available.html

I have just installed these updates (& Lightroom 3.3 after them) & I'm now getting an error message when CS5 loads...
    "Photoshop.exe Unable to locate component."
"The application has failed to start because MiTwain.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."
Following clicking on the error message box to close it CS5 does go on to load.  I can then open files. But as I don't know what the error relates to I am reluctant to try any image work.
I have never had this error message before, and have had no problems at all with CS5 prior to this (apart from it running slow-ish on my old machine).
Can anyone shed any light on this error & what it meeans - do I really need to re-install?
Thanks for your help in advance!

You have a wild hair about Bridge, Noel?
Not at all.  I like good tools, and from everything I read Bridge is marvelous.  I don't have anything against Bridge, I just don't need it.
As a computer engineer, I use my computer for WAY more than just Photoshop.  As such, I do everything I can to have the operating system (via Windows Explorer) integrate things for me.
For example, via right-click or double-click or drag and drop onto icons:
I access my configuration management system from Explorer (Tortoise SubVersion).
I do searches (grepWin) from Explorer.
I compare things (Beyond Compare) from Explorer.
I start Photoshop and other image tools on raw and processed image files I manage with Explorer.
I start my development tools (Visual Studio and a host of utilities) from Explorer (e.g., double click .sln files).
I access my web sites with Explorer (via WebDrive).
I get file paths from Explorer (right click, Send to Clipboard as Name).
I access office management apps from Explorer (e.g., double click .doc or .xls files).
This is an abbreviated list.  Explorer can be a VERY powerful integrator, and is at the center of my computing world at a higher level.  So now you can start to imagine why I prefer Explorer for image work.

  • New adobe DNG converter and CS4 quality problems - EOS 7D

    Hi,
A friend of mine uses Adobe Photoshop CS2.
He plans to buy Canon EOS 7D or EOS 5D Mark II in the future but first we did some tests and conversions.
We found many problems and quality issues.
First Problem is that CS2 doesn't support Canon EOS 7D directly so user has to use DNG Converter to convert the EOS 7D file from .cr2 to a .dng.
When i use and test this, CS2 recognizes and opens .dng file correctly then i optimize sharpness, color etc etc in the photoshop and save the file from the file menu (Save AS) as .jpg file.
Adobe Photoshop CS2 fails to save exif data.
It just saves the camera model nothing else.
On the other hand if i use CS4 it saves all exif data (without dng):
    The next problem is quality.
If i use indentical settings in RAW converted between CS2 (dng) and CS4 (cr2) CS2 images look sharper and have more "per pixel sharpness" than CS4 raw images.
Here's a sample (raw file taken from dpreview.com) that i tested it using both raw converters:
So these are two problems that i don't like nor does my friend and i am asking you if you would fix that and why such hudge difference ?
As the CS4 is being the newest the best of all photoshop it should had better picture but in this case the older version has better picture and i don't see any logic in that.
So if user wants to go for better quality he/she will pick CS2 but have a disadvantage - Exif is not saved in the .jpg file.
I also think that if dpreview would have used CS2 instead of CS4 they would get much higher "per pixel sharpness" from Canon EOS 7D as they did now.
    Thanks.

You can't use the exact same settings since the settings in ACR 3.x (Photoshop CS2) don't match up to ACR 5.x (Photoshop CS4).
Seriously, there was a major change in ACR 4 and then 5 that make comparing ACR 3.x and 5.x pretty pointless...
Fact is if you aren't getting optimal results from Camera Raw 5.x then you don't know how to use it...simple as that.
ACR 3.x had a very crude image sharpening process compared to either ACR 4.1 and above of any 5.x version.
Seriously, Photoshop CS2 and Camera Raw 3.x is way old tech...if you can't get better IQ from 5.x you are doing something wrong.

  • Canon EOS 5D Mark II with Adobe Bridge (CS4) and Camera Raw 5.4

I use a Canon EOS 5D Mark II and store in RAW-format.
The camera is updated with latest software etc.
I have the Adobe Design CS4 package on my computer and updated to the camera raw 5.4 version (bridge/photoshop/etc).
All this is updated to last versions / updates etc.
I upload my pictures from the camera to my computer.
When I inspect the files with the Canon software such as "Digital Photo Professional 3.6.1.0" or "Canon Utilities ZoomBrowser EX 6.3.1" (this are the latest versions and updates)  the files are copied correct to my computer.
The files can be opened with the canon software without any problem and can be modified and converted and all normal operations can be performed.
The files can also be converted to ".jpg" and no problem occurs.
The problem starts after the folder with the pictures (in RAW-format) has been opened / viewed in Adobe Bridge or after Adobe bridge is started.
After starting and viewing with bridge the folder only some of the file become corrupted and cannot be used anymore. So the majority of the files remain OK but some files become corrupt.
A part of the picture is visible partly, the remaining part are lines, dots, squares etc and the divisions of correct picture and corrupted seems to be at random. There is no structure in the way the corrupted file are shown in bridge. Please look at the enclosed picture in this message.
The files can be opened in Camera Raw and Photoshop but they show the corrupted file and can be stored etc.
    But the picture is destroyed.
Does anybody have a sollution or similar problems?
    Best regards

There are forums for Bridge, Camera RAW and Photoshop.
Any of them would be better than posting here.

  • Trouble with Adobe dng converter and 5d mark iii

I have recently downloaded the dng converter 6.7 to convert my cr2 files from my 5d mark iii, however it keeps on telling me i have no files to convert, is there anything i can do about this? i am using elements 10

Test with the new 7.1 DNG converter:

    Regards,

Just downloaded DNG_Camera_Raw_4_2.zip (for Windows), and the DNG Converter 4.2 indeed converts Sony A-700 ARW files so Camera Raw 3.7 can happily develop them. Never expected ACR support for the A-700 to happen so quickly; this camera was officially introduced last week and and will be available for purchase from next month on or so. Well done, Sony and Adobe!
And no, I don't have an A-700; I downloaded the ARW files from the Internet.

    Regards,
    Tom Hogarty

The same ACR 4.2 plugin is used for CS3 and for PSE5.0...
According to Adobe's ACR 4.2 readme:
    > The Camera Raw 4.2 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS3 or versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 4.0 for Macintosh or Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Windows.
So you should be good to go with PSE5.0, just download/install your plugin.

    Thanks for your update Tom.
I will install both but wanted to ask about a recovery slider issue I was seeing with Canon RAW files & homemade DNG profiles in Lightroom.
The recovery slider was shifting colors towards magenta as more was applied..
Has this been addressed with the ACR 5.5 release?
If so, do I need to re-make all of me homemade DNG profiles after installing ACR 5.5?

  • Troubles with auto update mechanism and Camera Raw 7.3 update

    Greetings,
Attempted an update using the update mechanism from Bridge.  CS6 Design Premium on Mac.  Received a couple error messages when it completed.  Foolishly I did not write down the details. I thought I could just run the update again.  When I attempted this, received mesage saying I was updated. But when I use Camera Raw plug-in within Bridge, it says I am still using version 7.2...
How may I attain a sucessful Camera Raw 7.3 upgrade?
I also use Lightroom which sucessfully upgraded,to 4.3 (with Camera Raw 7.3), but I often too use the Camera Raw Plug-in from within Bridge and would like to be on the same 'level'.
I thank you for any insight.
    Best regards,
    Alan

I updated CR to 7.3 yesterday and had nothing but problems after that.  When I opened a photo in CR, it still showed 7.2 even though I got a message that said update successful.  I had lots of problems using bridge which caused my computer to freeze.  Using Mozilla Firefox was also freezing.  I had to actually use the "off/on" button on my computer tower to shut it down.  I was unable to restart.  Lots of problems.  Finally used "system restore" to an earlier date (which wipes out all updates back to the date I chose), and that worked.  NO more problems.  I'm waiting a while before trying to update CR to 7.3.

  • Lightroom3 and Camera Raw 6.1 update

I am installing LR3. The "Readme" notes advise that the Photoshop Camera Raw update must be installed "...to ensure compatibility with Lightroom Develop settings."
However, the info on the download page for the 6.1 CR update advises that this update is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than CS5.
CAn anyone advise what is the situation if I am still using Photoshop CS4?
    Thanks

You can use all of the new LR 3 image processing goodies except for profile-based lens corrections and perspective transform corrections.
    Specifically, everything except:
    - Controls in the "Profile" section of the Lens Correction panel.
    - Controls in the "Transform" part of the "Manual" section of the Lens Correction panel.

  • Adobe DNG Converter can't recognize any files

    Hi All!
I'm new here and would very  much appreciate help.
I am running a Mac OS X 10.04.11 and would  like to open .CR2 files (native file from my Canon 500D) in PS4      / Bridge  CS4. My problem is that although I have downloaded the Adobe DNG Converter and Camera Raw 5.1  update as described  here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4057,  the DNG Converter can't recognise any files at  all (they are greyed-out  when I go to select any folder). I also followed these steps from the aforementioned link (well at  least I hope I did it right, I found the reference to step 4 slightly  confusing):
To install with Adobe Creative  Suite 4 or Photoshop CS4:
Automated installation on Mac or Windows®:
    1. Select "Updates..." from the Help menu
    2. Follow the on-screen dialogs to download and  install the latest  available Camera Raw update
    Manual installation on Mac:
    1. Exit Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Bridge.
    2. Open the Finder.
    3. Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user's home  folder).
    4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
    Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats
    5. Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new  folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need  to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download  into the same folder as in Step 4.
    7. Launch Photoshop CS4 or Adobe Bridge.
Is that version the right one for CS4?
Only Finder and the Canon Software can preview my .CR2  files, Photoshop still gives the message: "Could   not complete  your request because Photoshop does not recognise this  type of file." and   Bridge only shows me a generic RAW thumbnail. This message also  appears in PS when I double-click on the  Camera-RAW.plugin. I also  restarted my computer,  but that didn't fix it.
Can  anyone help me out please? I'd urgently need a solution.
    Thanks in advance!

I now uninstalled the older 5.1 version and  instead installed the DNG Converter 6.3 separately and it works  perfectly.
About the Camera Raw 5.6 update: I also downloaded the plug-in  (which I think should be the last version CS4 supports) and can now open  my .CR2 files in PS, Bridge previews them too. :-)
Is it advisable to keep both, .CR2 as well as .DNG files? Why is it  that my .DNG files are lighter than the native .CR2?
    Thanks again!

  • "Edit In" Photoshop CC not working for RAW or DNG files after applying LR 5.3 and Camera Raw 8.3

I just applied the Lightroom 5.3 and Camera Raw 8.3 updates and now am no longer able to open RAW or DNG files into Photoshop CC. When I select a file and choose "Edit In" Photoshop, photoshop will launch, then nothing will happen. After 2 to 5 minutes, an error will popup in Lightroom saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC could not be launched." An error I've never seen before. When I click "Ok", Lightroom will show that it's "preparing a file for editing" in the upper left, it will create and save a psd to disk and in the catalog (another new behavior), then it will open in photoshop. All other file types (jpgs, tiff, psd) seem to work/open fine between applications. No difference if I open photoshop prior to selecting "Edit In". Selecting "Edit In" other applications, like Viveza, work fine.
I tried first deleting preference files in both applications. No luck. Ditto for plugins. Notta. Eventually I completely uninstalled and fresh installed Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge from the cloud. Same deal...can't open raw/dng files into Photoshop.
I'm at a complete loss, dead in the water, with a mountain of editing work piling on top of me. Kicking myself for applying the upgrades, which I had been delaying for some time to avoid just such a cluster%#$. Ugh.
    I'm on a PC running Windows 7 64bit.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In the normal situation, LR needs to see a PS installed for it to detect the Edit In PS option is possible, so if you uninstall both, then install PS, first, then LR.  Of course with this release there may be some hiccup that requires installing either one or the other, again, but if you've uninstalled both and are reinstalling both, then install PS, first.

  • Adobe DNG Converter For Panasonic LX3?

The recent Apple update still does not recognize Panasonic's LX3 camera. I believed I could still get a Raw image into Aperture by doing the following:
Using Adobe DNG Converter, and looking at Aperture's requirement that the linear compression option be turned off. I converted the Raw format file to DNG and then tried to import it into Aperture. Aperture seems to "digest" the image, but then states the format is unsupported. Am I doing something wrong? Why doesn't this seem to work?

I think the problem is, for the LX3, Adobe demands that Linear conversion be on for the LX3. Given Aperture doesn't support this... I think you may be at loggerheads.

  • Is there a way to integrate Adobe DNG Converter into Lightroom 5.7?

I recently purchased an Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II. Unfortunately, the new Olympus ORF raw file is not recognized in Lightroom 5.7. I am currently running a separate operation on all of my new raw files - running them through Adobe DNG Converter. This takes time as a separate operation, and I'd like to make the conversion automatic within lightroom. Is this possible?
    Thanks!

    Buy Downloader Pro.
Downloader Pro - Download, Organize, Rename Images Photos Canon, Fuji, Minolta, Olympus and Pentax Digital Cameras
I have been using this with LR for a long time now.You can incorporate the Adobe DNG converter into the download process. I initially bought Downloader Pro because it has an extremely flexible file renaming facility, but besides renaming files it can integrate GPS information into images from my handheld GPS receiver, hand off the files to the Adobe DNG converter and then place the resulting DNG files into LR's Auto Import folder, making the entire process automatic.
