Adobe DPS design upscaling
Hi,
I have a question about resolutions.
I have a 640x480 design, created in InDesign as a test. If I preview this design via file -> preview folio, the desktop viewer starts and simulates just that using the same dimensions. So the desktop viewer frame is also 640x480 in dimensions.
I log in to the DPS in Indesign, create a new folio measuring 1024x768 and upload my folio. If I then preview this publication I get a 1024x768 version in my desktop viewer.
Now the discussion here is not why I am only creating a 640x480 file (it's just a test), but it's about the new preview. I know that in the end the design will be visualized using the 1024x768 ipad. But if I create a smaller design (like I just did), does that mean that he is upscaling (or maybe downscaling, depending on the design?) everything automatically the moment I save it as a folio?
I think the logic answer is yes, but I'm just making sure here.

Actually, Android and iPad viewers treat smaller folios differently. The iPad downloads only content in 4:3 format. In most cases, that means 1024x768. Some publishers who migrate print content create 512x384 folios with 2x resolution (144-ppi) images. This content is scaled up on the iPad. I don't recommend this workflow for a number of reasons, but it's possible. I'm not sure if or how this will change when the iPhone is supported.
Android viewers display folios of any size. They scale down but not up.

Can you move a magazine app designed by another company to Adobe DPS?
My company had a digital company (who shall remain nameless) produce their magazine app under the (digital company's) information. I want to transfer everything over to Adobe DPS because frankly, this digital company did not live up to their promises, have terrible customer service, and are strictly just adding buttons to a pdf (not interactive at all). With that said, do I need to start from scratch and build a new app? Or can I just obtain the app that's already been created? If not, do I just tell the other company to delete our app? Thanks!
If you move to DPS you'll wind up building a new application using our tools and submitting that to Apple as an update to the existing application. Your readers will see an update to the app and when they download it they'll have the new version.
What is more complicated to sort out is whether readers would still be entitled to content they'd previously purchased. That depends a lot on you previous setup, how the previous product handled purchases, etc.

Adobe DPS - Multiple computer sync
I work on three computers (work, home and laptop) and I want to know the best working practice when it comes to Adobe DPS. Basically how do I keep all the documents, folios and articles in sync on all three computers. I subscribe to Creative Cloud so I'm sure there's a way of doing it but I haven't stumbled across it yet.
Are you creating your folios offline? If so they won't show up on the other compuer. Either use the flyout menu on the folio to upload it, or when you create the folio in the first place make sure the option is set properly in the new folio dialog so it is an online folio.
As Bob mentions you'll still have to relink the articles on the other machine, which can be a bit of a pain. From a workflow standpoint you are likely better off waiting to build the folio proper until you're happy with each article design. Then use one computer to make the final folio (perhaps via a sidecar.xml to make it easy to recreate again if you have to).

Adobe CS6 Design Standard: NO BRIDGE?
I just installed the CS6 Design Standard for Students on my Mac. While Adobe Bridge is an additional listed component it is not installed with the rest of the suite (even though the media encoder was) and I cannot locate it on the installation disk. I tried to launch it from Photoshop and it is no where on my system.
Please help!What I found to be interesting is that Bridge isn't listen in the applications to install when the CD is put in. The Media Encoder (and adidtional component also) did instal and is listed.

I'm looking to take an class in adobe dps, either online or in person (in nyc/philadelphia area). Can anyone recommend one? I'm a print magazine designer who wants to design apps and digital editions of magazines for the ipad. I would like to build a portfolio to show potential clients. Adobe DPS apps and cryptography/encryption
Hello,
We just used the Adobe DPS Single Edition to create an awesome animated storybook for kids (by placing m4v video overlays on every page). So, we are now ready to upload our app to the App Store.
As part of the submission process, we are being asked the following:
"Is your product designed to use cryptography or does it contain or incorporate cryptography?"
What does this mean?? Does this apply to apps created with DPS Single Edition? How would a DPS user even know the answer to this?Select No. The custom viewer doesn't include cryptology.

Приветствую всех. Суть в том что я не могу разобраться с лицензией Single Edition адобовская поддержка толком ничего не объясняет.
Может кто-то из рускоговорящих может мне втолковать что входит в пакет DPS Single Edition, что я смогу с его помощью сделать и самое интересное это прайс и покупка.
DPS Se это лицензия только на 1 фолио? Только одно приложение под IOs или Android можно сделать чтоли?

При подписке на Creative Cloud (полной подписке, а не на отдельные программные продукты) становится доступной возможность публикации неограниченного количества Single Edition приложений (это приложения, которые могут содержать только одно фолио) в AppStore.
Казалось бы плюсы очевидны: неограниченное количество приложений, нет платы за скачивания из AppStore, не нужно ежегодно платить за платформу DPS, чтобы приложение было доступно для скачивания. Но есть один жирный минус, перевешивающий, на мой взгляд, все эти плюсы – такие приложения имеют высокую вероятность быть отвергнутыми Apple на ревью. Чтобы этого не случилось, такое приложение должно включать в себя большое количество интерактивных оверлеев, не должно быть похоже на книгу по своей структуре и т. п. И даже в этом случае нет никакой гарантии. Добавим сюда то, что на сегодняшний день Single Edition – это только для iPad.
Не знаю ваших целей и задач, но для меня, если пользоваться платформой Adobe DPS, реальным вариантом является только Professional. Правда есть еще альтернативные интересные платформы, более приемлемые по цене, но немного похуже, на мой взгляд, по функционалу. -
Sending Push Notifications with Adobe DPS
Question.
I'm testing out all the Adobe DPS and Apple options. And one of the things I would like to test is Push Notifications.
I followed the iPad publishing guide to be able to get all the certificates so that's ok. Then I was looking for a way to send
push notifications. Because Adobe DPS doesn't really have a UI environment (PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong ;-) to send push
notifications I have to do it 'by hand'. When I tested my app on my iPad I got the "app name wants to send you push notifications",
so i'm sure my certificates are working. Now I just need to send a push message.
So I followed this great tutorial:

I was able to do everything and was able to send a push notification ... but I never received it. And the reason for this is because
I don't have the app device token, which is a 64 character serial number which acts as your app address. So I don't have any way of sending the notification
to my particular app. (which is a test sideload multifolio app).
Because the Adobe DPS is cloud based you don't get any code (which I love). But I think that is currently stopping me
from finding out my device token.
What I'm asking:
- Does this mean I can't send any push notifications to Adobe DPS created apps?
- If this is supported somehow, I suppose (again, correct me) I need the app device token for the created app. Where do I get this?
Thanks !At this time, it's not possible to manually push notifications. When you enable push, only publishing a new folio displays the red badge. At some point, when third-party push is supported, manual pushes will be possible.

I am a completely new member to this community. Thank you in advance for all that may take a look at the following questions.
I am writing from the agency side of advertising. One of our clients use Adobe DPS, and our agency will soon be promoting the client's app to drive monthly subscriptions.
First question :
Once a mobile user is driven to download the app i.e. post-click through, is it possible to tie subscriptions back to the ad source through 3rd-party tracking implementation? I'm assuming the answer is no, but I would like to just double-check for reassurance.
Second question :
Once a user has accessed this digital-content through the app, is it possible for the client to get any visibility into the engagments that happen within the app?

but I am getting different answers about this issue from different sources.
The second part to that question : if those engagement metrics are available to the client using Adobe DPS, can those measurements customized? i.e. - would I be able to track how many page views each unique user has logged? I did take a look at the MPA metrics standard but those only seem to be sending back session duration, count of sessions, etc.

Here are the responses to your questions:
1) First question: The answer is as you suspected, "No".
2) Second question:Once the user has downloaded/installed the app then you can access to baseline analytics reports for basic reporting. You can also get access to Sitecatalyst that provides more deeper tracking. If you are entitling the users directly via direct entitltment; then yes you can track more detailed behavior on each user.

I use Windows Vista and my Adobe LiveCycle Designer was working before but for the last week and a half or so I have not been able to get it to work! I have done scandisk/defrag/and have multiple software to keep my computer clean so I have taken those precautions beforehand. To the problem...:
My Adobe LiveCycle Designer opens up and it was working previously as mentioned, but when I try to open it by either opening or converting a form or creating a new form with a template, I am not able to as it gives me an error message and closes! It gives me an error message of "Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES has stopped working" and a screenshot of this is provided at the following link:

I don't know what to do and wanted to see if I could solve this problem before I was forced to try to manually reinstall it so hopefully I don't have to go through that. I appreciate the help once again!I am dealing with the same problem. I called Adobe technical support and spent hours to fix the problem but none worked. I tried to explain them the error might be caused by the Activation process but they just made me uninstall and install application several times.
When I start LiveCycle it gives the following error: adobe livecycle designer es has stopped working.
I start debugger to see what's going on and get the following exception: Unhandled exception at 0x773db663 in FormDesigner.exe: 0xC015000F: The activation context being deactivated is not the most recently activated one.
Does anyone know how to deactivate this product manually? Because deactivate menu is dimmed and I cannot deactivate product from the program. I believe if I can just remove activation info and activate it again this problem might disappear.

This may be a couple of known things; one is related to your specific installation (may have become corrupted if you did an upgrade from a previous version, especially if you upgraded from Beta?) Or, it may be related to a known SQL Server compatibility bug for which a hotfix will shortly be posted. (Problem with some Microsoft DLLs that get updated if you install SQL server).
If you have SQL Server installed, try looking on these forums for a patch that should be posted within the next 2 days. I created an app using PhoneGap a couple of months ago, and have now just amended it using Adobe DPS. But when I come to upload it to iTunes, I get the error message "This bundle does not support on or more of the device supported by the previous app version" How can I correct this?
I suspect your PhoneGap app was flagged as running on both iPad and iPhone. You'll need the same from DPS. You can do this in AppBuilder at the start of the wizard where it asks what kind of devices you want to support. Note that this is only available to DPS Professional and Enterprise customers. If you are a Creative Cloud customer building a Single Edition application it will only support iPad.

I currently have SE via creatieve cloud - one of the only reasons we switched to CC was for the DPS SE.
Does anyone know if this capability will just be 'switched off' at midnight 1st May 2015?? There are huge costs for going the enterprise route but with no date in sight for Publish to be launched I am not sure I can wait for this, or should I???Adobe states: Please note that the Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition, service will be available for use until May 1, 2015, but beyond that date the service will no longer be available.
So essentially my licence will expire on 1st May - Adobe's note just mentions 'service' - even though part of CC and I will not be able to maintain my app or create any more IPA's after 1st May. I can't beleive there is nothing to switch over to other than paying thousands of pounds for enterprise??
Just all so vauge, feels like a plug is going to be pulled and thats it??? Maybe I am missing something?
