Adobe dreamweaver templates
when you download an adobe template you get the Design files which is where you find the PSD files
You also get the publish folder which is where you find your images, your css, spry assets, and you also get 3 templates
Ones of those templates is design from template. html
another template design html
and then another template which is the dreamweaver dwt template
which one of those three templates is the one that I have to use.
They confuse me .
A file that ends in the extension .dwt is a dreamweaver template.
You can make any .html page into a Dreamweaver template. Simply go to File>Save as Template…
Dreamweaver will create a /Templates folder where you have defined your website locally and place the template there.
Dreamweaver will not allow you to save a template without editable regions. The way you create an editable region in a dreamweaver template is to select an area in design view and select Insert>Template Objects>Editable Region. A window will come up asking you to name the region and you should give the area a good name that you'll understand.
Dreamweaver will insert code necessary to manage the template.
Dreamweaver will allow you to nest templates. Don't do that.
Dreamweaver templates allow you to create areas that are updated automatically on your website (like navigation, for instance) all throughout your website whenever you make a change to your template. The only other way to do this is to use server side includes. Dreamweaver templates make website creation, extension and management a snap.
So, when you design a page for a website, make that page into a template, define the areas you want to be able to change on every page as editable regions and let Dreamweaver do the heavy lifting whenever you need to change something site-wide.

It is a suggestion on Adobe Dreamweaver:
Could you change the setting of the page or template; to a free platform?
example; move: images, tables and other elements all over the place covering the page. in order to facilitate the user in the design environment.
free
Thank you for your attentionAdobe has been trying this and the product is called Muse ( Web design software | Download free Adobe Muse CC trial ). It doesn't give you the control over the code that most developers prefer but it could help bridge the gap for design if that is what you are looking for.

Edit First line in dreamweaver templates
Hello,
When I create a page from a Dreamweaver template, a
dreamweaver comment similar to the one below will be inserted:
<!-- #BeginTemplate "/Templates/test.dwt" -->
Each time I edit a page to add php code in the very first
line, it is removed with every template update and the source code
again starts with the dreamweaver comment. I need to add to all my
pages a php code in the very first line like this one:
<? $ob_start; $session_start; ?>
How can I do that without removing the code from my pages
with each template update. Another problem is that I can't insert a
placeholder in the very first line of a dreamweaver template. Above
that the first line is locked in dreamweaver, so that I can't
change it manually. Is there any workaround available?
Thanks,

Put the code ABOVE the <html> tag.
Which DW are you using? It looks like DW4 or earlier....

Flash banner in a Dreamweaver Template
Hi all,
I am using one of the provided Dreamweaver Templates (CSS).
All is fine, except that for some reason it does not like Flash
imports. I can alter the template as much as I like and it will
always successfully change across the site, BUT if I try to insert
a Flash movie/banner into the template - then it does not appear of
ANY of the site files. The only way I can see the flash banner, is
if I open the template.php file in a browser - then you can see
that it is in fact there and working - but for some reason the
other pages refuse to acknolwegde it. Images / Tables / Text - all
work fine - just not flash banners. I even tried saving the banner
as a JPG file in Flash, then sticking the JPG file in the template
where the banner should - and it worked perfectly, but as a .swf
extension it fails.
Am I missing something?
Nathan> BUT if I try to insert a Flash movie/banner into the
template - then it
> does not appear of ANY of the site files.
Because of the active content .js fix, when you insert a .swf
file into a
template, you must use a Site Root relative path for it.
Open the .dwt template file.
Double-click on the .swf in design view- the "browse to file"
dialog box
should come up showing the currently selected file.
look in the bottom of that dialog box for the pulldown to
change from
document relative path to site root relative path. Change it
to site root.
click okay and save the file, and let changes propagate.
does it show in the child files now?
[note- It may still not show during local preview because
site root relative
paths in javascript will not make any sense during local
preview- they
should work fine on the remote host if the site has it's own
domain name
though]

Dreamweaver Templates with Web Gallery
I have built a site in dreamweaver CS4 I have used a Dreamweaver Template for my pages. Rather than clog my pages up with images I used Adobe Bridge to create a web gallery, It created a gallery ok and I saved it to my hard drive. It created two items, a resourses folder and an "index" file. So I I copied and pasted the two items into my Dreamweaver folder I created and called SS_Bridge. I pointed a link I created to point to the "index" file within the SS_Bridge Folder in Dreamweaver, Will this create a problem as there will be two "Index" files within my site
jjrutterThe "home" page index file would be at the root level of the site. Other folders within the root can all have their own index (default) files.

NEW! Free Dreamweaver templates WITH Fireworks vector files
I just released some free Dreamweaver templates that include
not only the Dreamweaver template dwt file, but also the original
pre-sliced Fireworks file with all the template graphics.
The templates include the dwt, Fireworks file, pure CSS
menus, are AdSense-ready, XHTML 1.0 valid and are very customizable
through both the Fireworks file and the CSS.
If you use one, let me know so I can get a screenshot and
post a link to your site showing how the templates have been
customized by various designers.
Cheers!
BroditCan you post a link to the PHP page, please? This will allow
me to see the
HTML markup on it....

Dreamweaver Templates and Include files
Hi,
I am using dreamweaver templates so that my users can create
new pages on our Intranet using Contribute.
When I create a template and try and use an inculde file for
the menu systems I get an error. I am trying to use the following
code to inculde the asp file:
<!--#include file="/includes/menu.asp" -->
And I get the following error when saving the template:
Unbalanced body tag
I have checked and I definetly have opening and closing body
tags in the HTML. So I am wondering whether the error is caused by
the fact that the file is a dwt and not as asp.
So, is there anyway of using include files in a dreamweaver
template?
Thanks in advance for any help.That's the wrong syntax for a file include. It should be
either of these -
<!--#include virtual="/includes/menu.asp" -->
or
<!--#include file="includes/menu.asp" -->

Designing Dreamweaver templates (was:Info.)
hey again. i have a question. and i am wondering. if its true. could a designer or photogrpaher make a template and have it used in his or her web site? if so. how? i heard you can do this in either of the two programs. photo shop and illustrator. see i am now a member of bc partner. but i am wanting to learn the in between lines. of web site making. see i have started a web site in the past. using dreamweaver, and now i am using muse. but again i am starting from scratch. right now i am using a current site called wix.com. heres my current web site.
1. wix= http://brian-ford.wix.com/photographerexplorer
2. web site in progress using adobe muse. http://bf-photographer01.businesscatalyst.com
3. heres is wix.com it self. you can see how they have this site designed. and with it they have thumbnails of web site templates. that are editable. http://www.wix.com/html5webbuilder/400?utm_campaign=vir_wixad_live
how is that possiable? all i have learnd as a photo student. was design a web site from scratch. besides adding a background image. i have lerned code bfore. and i can laern more. so what is it that i can do?
so how to desing a template? and make it into a image? that someone/client. can tap on it. and edit it. as what they want.Hi bford 225,

Dreamweaver template / having trouble seeing the previews
I am designing a website, using Dreamweaver for the first
time, and I would like to ask your advice.
Do you know how to apply a dreamweaver template to other html
pages. I have having trouble seeing the previews in the local
browser. For examples, when I preview an html page, that has the
template included, I see the page OK. But when I click to go to
another page with the sample template, the new page shows up, but
without the template design included.Answered mutliple times on the DW forum.

hi, i am having trouble with a dreamweaver template. the
links in the template do not match the links in the pages i have
created using that template, in that they have a
"..template/somepage.html" whereas in the template it is just
"somepage.html". why does it do this? i have recreated the page,
reapplied the template to the page, recreated my site cache,
recreated a template and a new page and it still isn't working. ??
i am sure it is a simple answer but after reading through the
forums i am not sure what my next step should be.
thank you.> "somepage.html".
If you have a link like that in a template file then you have
made a
mistake. You should never have links that imply other files
are at the same
folder level as the template itself. The most common cause
for this is to
manually enter the link into the template file. Don't do
that. Use the
Browse function to browse to and select the desired target
file.

Dreamweaver template - Image display
Hey everyone.
I am using a Dreamweaver template that I have created to
format my pages. The banner is a graphic. I have created 2 pages,
both with the same template. When i view these in IE one has a
crisp clear image and the other one has jagged edges (like i have
resized it). I have went through the code for both pages and they
are EXACTLY the same.
I am complete stumped as to why this is happening. I have
never seen this before.
Does anyone have an suggestions as to what to look for, or to
solve this??Show us the pages, please.

I created a webpage using the dreamweaver template when I
open it in the browser in a maximize screen its perfect but when I
adjust the size the content on the middle 'div' is going to the
bottom at the page. How can I do it like if I resize the page The
contents will not be affected? Thanks!!> Of course the image in the middle
> Section which is 3 inches wide will not fit. Right?
That's correct, although inches mean nothing on the screen of
a variety of
users. Pixels would be the more consistent and proper unit of
measure.
> In regards with the css,java, html,
It's javascript, not Java. The two are completely different
things.
> why did you say it?s advanced?
The layout method used on the page is a bit arcane and unlike
other 2/3
column layouts I have seen.
> I know that it?s just to make a template command
> so that you can edit a certain section by using css
> style sheets right?
Hmmm - I don't understand what you are saying. CSS would have
nothing to do
with whether or not you can edit a section.
> But isn?t dreamweaver will make the code for you?
DW will not prevent you from making a mess of those pages,
even though It's
doing what you are telling it to.

Go here -
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?q=+group:macromedia.dreamweaver
Search this forum for "HALO" or "CSS template". You will have
all of those
problems, perhaps.
Look - I don't want to discourage you from using this as an
ACADEMIC
exercise, but I don't think it's a good choice for any
commercial entity.
There are much better free/commercial choices you can make -

This is two of the best, in my opinion.

Dreamweaver Template & Javascript

i<a.length; i++)
if (a

function MM_swapImgRestore() { //v3.0
var i,x,a=document.MM_sr;
for(i=0;a&&i<a.length&&(x=a
)&&x.oSrc;i++) x.src=x.oSrc;
function MM_findObj(n, d) { //v4.01
var p,i,x; if(!d) d=document;
if((p=n.indexOf("?"))>0&&parent.frames.length) {
d=parent.frames[n.substring(p+1)].document;
n=n.substring(0,p);}
if(!(x=d[n])&&d.all) x=d.all[n]; for
(i=0;!x&&i<d.forms.length;i++) x=d.forms[n];
for(i=0;!x&&d.layers&&i<d.layers.length;i++)
x=MM_findObj(n,d.layers
.document);
if(!x && d.getElementById) x=d.getElementById(n);
return x;
function MM_swapImage() { //v3.0
var i,j=0,x,a=MM_swapImage.arguments; document.MM_sr=new
Array; for(i=0;i<(a.length-2);i+=3)
if ((x=MM_findObj(a))!=null){document.MM_sr[j++]=x;
if(!x.oSrc) x.oSrc=x.src; x.src=a[i+2];}
// Comma separated list of images to rotate
var imgs = new
Array('images/northcampus/IMG_0587.JPG','images/northcampus/IMG_0593.JPG','images/northca mpus/IMG_0596.JPG','images/northcampus/IMG_0620.JPG','images/northcampus/IMG_0625.JPG');
// delay in milliseconds between image swaps 1000 = 1 second
var delay = 5000;
var counter = 0;
function preloadImgs(){

MM_preloadImages(imgs
function randomImages(){
if(counter == (imgs.length)){
counter = 0;
MM_swapImage('rotator', '', imgs[counter++]);
setTimeout('randomImages()', delay);
//-->
</SCRIPT>
When I create a new htmlpage & attach the template, the
new page has extra code in my script! The last function turns out
like this:
function randomImages(){
if(counter == (imgs.length)){
counter = 0;
MM_swapImage('rotator', '', imgs[counter++]imgs);
function randomImages(){
if(counter == (imgs.length)){
counter = 0;
MM_swapImage('rotator', '', imgs[counter++]);
setTimeout('randomImages()', delay);
How can I stop this from happening? It breaks my new page
every time!
Thanks for any ideas,
nickiUpload the template file and post a link to it, please.

Need Help Reslicing Photoshop Site Layout to Update Dreamweaver Template
I created a website in adobe photoshop cs3 and sliced it up
to created an html file with sliced images. My main navigation menu
is made up of graphics.
I brought it into dreamweaver and created editable regions,
created rollovers etc. Then I created a dreamweaver template from
that to create the rest of the web pages for my site.
The client has come back to me and wants to add more menu
options to the site. This is where I'm stuck! When I use photoshop
to make more menu slices, it renumbers them. How do I export the
new slices with the new layout so I can use them to update my
dreamweaver template. How can I get those new slices/html layout to
the dreamweaver template without losing all the work I have done on
my current dreamweaver template?

it does not provide

The slicing is not the problem. It's the export as HTML that
is the
problem. And you'd have to ask Adobe that question if you
want an answer.
We are all just volunteer peers here.

FW HTML is no better.

At any rate, read this -
http://apptools.com/rants/spans.php
- and then look
at your code and count colspan, and rowspan attributes.
Unfortunately, the
only way to avoid this mess is to learn enough HTML/CSS that
you can build
your own tables in DW, and do it in such a way that you don't
rely on
merging and splitting cells (which is what generates those
colspan and
rowspan attributes).
Again, unfortunately, you are REALLY stuck in a bad
situation. Since you
have a) used a completely graphic menu button array, and b)
used a graphic
background behind the menu buttons, and c) chosen to embed
that graphic
background in each sliced button, you cannot add new buttons
without
remaking the entire menu. You will only make that mistake
once. I never
start building menus until I have an approved site plan in
hand. By the
way, that's a nice looking layout.
I don't see any clear path to salvation here. Since you are
absolutely tied
to PS for exporting the HTML and slices, you will have to
recreate
everything, I believe.

I am using Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5 and my employer is using Dreamweaver version 9. We have created templates, but when she tries to update the template the changes are not showing up on the attached pages. Could someone help us find what we are doing wrong? Also, I am a virtual assistant and live in Montana while she is in Texas.
Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the Template (which will not propagate)
5. Assume that Template changes will be effected by just uploading the changed Template file to the server without also uploading the changed local files
6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between Template and child page is broken
7. Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the Template, adding page specific content, and resaving the Template with an *.html extension rather than its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done). If you *have done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DW) using FILE | New > Page from Template, select the Template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them. Have you done any of those?
