Adobe dynamic link - ACROSS multiple boxes on one LAN?

Looking for help using ADOBE DYNAMIC LINK - But not one machine but between 2 different machines on one network - one AE, one Premiere CC: We need to be able to at least move between different motion graphics and editing machines.
I want the animator to stick her file on the server - i put it in the timeline - it needs work - she changes the file - keeps the same name - and it refreshes and updates.
To me - it is what Adobe is offering about working in the cloud, just is just a local cloud - so it should work?
This post DOES NOT cover our need but i assume it IS possible?

Thanks.

No, Dynamic Link does not work between multiple computers.

  • Operate Dynamic Link Across Multiple Workstations?

Right now I'm in the middle of designing the workflow and post-production pipeline for my school's film class. At the heart of the pipeline site Dynamic Link, and its interaction with After Effects, Audition, and Speedgrade. My question whether it's possible to have a multi-computer setup and spread the DL assets across users. For example, User #1 is the Premiere editor, #2 is Ae, and #3 is Au. The editor creates a Premiere project with a separate sequence for each scene. She cuts Scene one, then makes an DL Ae comp for all of the vfx clips, before moving on to Scene 2. #2 then opens the Ae project on his computer and begins comping while #1 is working on the other scene. He finishes the comp, then saves the project and closes Ae. Meanwhile, #3 is working in Au for audio files in Scene 1 while #1 is cutting Scene 2 and #2 is working on comps for Scene 1. This process repeats for all scenes before approved Audio/VFX comps are approved and rendered losslessly to replace the DL's as intermediate files.
I apologize if this sounds a little complicated, a drawn graph would have worked better. But is a process like this possible, with storage options like a shared external closure in RAID 5 or 10 for hosting all clips and projects, with a separate per user disk for caching, etc, or is it just not possible with the way DL is currently set up with CC 2014? Thanks in advance for responding!

RoninEdits has done a good job of helping you through this... He/she has certainly been a massive help around here but I don't know the editing setup experience he/she has. I certainly learn a lot from reading through the comments!
I couldn't agree more, this guy has been a major help on pretty much all of my few threads
A standard problem in setting up any editing machine is the disc in/out read/write/cache is massive in PrPro, at times nastier in SpeedGrade, and beyond belief in Ae. Audition can be a hog at times but typically in my system is faster to process through something than the others.
So ... one oft uses say either 4 or more local discs past the system/OS disc, or a system/OS disc & maybe a second cache disc and then a 4/5 disc RAID array for high-speed throughput for the read/write/cache/database work. Follow?
Now ... lets put that over a single connection on a NAS. I don't have the experience that others have with this, but I wonder (from having read posts about NAS systems and lags in playback & such) ... will this be the best editing solution? I've also heard of editing houses where each machine has several hot-swapping disc options available, and people use the old sneaker-net system to move say the footage disc forth and back to various users. Or even say 3-4 discs of any projects contents.
If I understand correctly, this is pretty much exactly what I intended to do with my setup. Each machine (3 of them) would have an SSD for Windows/Apps, an SSD Cache drive, and a mechanical disk for storing data if need be. Then I would have a Synology DS415+ with 4x2TB WD Red Pro drives in a RAID 5. This would be hooked up over a Gb network (school owned) and would connect to the workstations with Link Aggregation (LACP) to achieve a theoretical 2GbE bandwith connection to each machine (roughly 250MB/s). The NAS would store all of the projects, source footage, audio, and other materials that could then be copied over to the systems' local drives, or have new materials copied to it. That way all editors would have access to all of the source material simultaneously versus having to have one external drive and keep swapping it out among editors to copy files. I was hoping that MPE/DL would work cross station through the NAS, but that doesn't look like that'll be the case, unfortunately.

as long as premiere picks up the changes with a restart, or re-opening of the project, then no swap would be needed and all is ready for export.  if you are looking at having the ae editor do a separate render and bringing that back into premiere, you may also want to look at doing a complete non-dynamic link workflow, even if just to teach both ways. by keeping the vfx shots on another track, its easy to keep track of them. this also makes it possible to nest those clips and then use the project manager, selecting just the vfx nested sequence to consolidate and transcode. this way it will trim down the clip to just the part needed, but also should use the option to add handles.  in a few clicks all the vfx clips are ready made to be sent to the ae editor. can then use the offline/relink command to bring the new clips back in.
This was one workflow I was considering. I was trying to avoid having the main editor closing and reopening a project every time something was changed just to view it in the middle of their editing, but rendering intermediates looks like it's going to be the best bet. No full-res clips till they're finalized. I'm going to go through and do some personal practice just to figure out what feels best for the class, but non-DL looks where I'm headed. My main point behind using it was so that the Compositor wouldn't have to load a full clip into AE, where using DL it would have already been cut to the way it looked in Premiere and have a comp per shot in one scene file, but it looks like your idea would give the exact same result, just in a slightly different appearance in AE. By that I mean Pre-Comp each shot once AE opens and work from there. Thanks for the tip Ronin!

  • Adobe Dynamic Link or Export from Premiere and load into Encore?

    Hi
I'm making some tests about authoring DVDs and Blu-Rays from Encore CS6. My video editions are made in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.
Looks like I have 2 ways to send contents from Premiere Pro to Encore.
    1) I can set all my editions in Premiere Pro, then Export the entire timeline to a MPEG-2 DVD or MPEG-2 BLU-Ray file, then start a new Encore project and import this video file as a timeline.
    2) I can finish my editions in Premiere Pro, then use the Adobe Dynamic Link > Send to Encore options. So, it's not necessary to export files, since the task of transcoding is an Encore's task.
Question is: Any advantage of using way 1 or 2??? Thinking about speed to finish the job, is one way better than other?
What do you use do choose?
    Thank you for these tips
    Gustavo.

    Hi Stanley
Thank you very much for your tips. Just one thing:
In Premiere we can choose, for Blu-Rays, the MPEG-2 or H.264 codecs. You mentioned the H.264 Bly-Ray choice.
Any advantage regarding the H.264 instead of the own MPEG-2 coded?
Best Regards and thank you very much again.
    Gustavo.

  • Issues with transferring CS5 project with Adobe Dynamic Links to CS5.5

    Hello all!
Has anybody encountered the issue with transferring CS5 projects with Adobe Dynamic Links to CS5.5?
When I try to do it the movie hangs on at some clips which are AE compositions...
    The CS5 project works perfectly.
All AE CS5 compositions are transerred to AE CS5.5 compositions.
All 'old' Adobe Dynamic Links in Pr CS5.5 project are changed to 'new' ones (I mean, links to AE CS5 composition changed to links to AE CS5.5 compositions)...
    Any help will be appreciated

Tried to play around. Realised that a solution should be somewhere around re-rendering, 'cos linked AE compositions were always displayed in yellow as if they were original footages - even I changed a composition within AE, just transitions, if they were, changed to red in Pr Pro sequence...
However, I was unable to re-render 'Entire Work Area' even after deleting all Render Files, just 'Effects in Work Area'...
Then I simply created a new sequence and copied and pasted all the clips from original sequence. Now I was allowed to 'Render Entire Work Area'.
    Voilà!

  • Encore Adobe Dynamic Link Audio problem

I have a multiple video files that I have put together in Premiere.  The are HD Dolby 5.1 sound.  I have about 10 of these together. So I export them to Encore using the Adobe Dynamic Link. I built the menu system.  When I burn the dvd and try it.  It plays through the first two clips just fine and when it gets to the third. The sound goes out and never returns on the rest of the clips.  But when I test it in Encore and Premiere there is sound and it works great.  Anyone know why when i burn the dvd I loose the sound on the 3rd clip?  Thanks.

I can't help directly, but I never use Dynamic Link because I have read of problems
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/936216
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/938108
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/938549
So, as a test, export as appropriate out of PPro and then import the files (video & audio) into a new project in Encore

  • Adobe dynamic link-From after effects to Premiere

I have few sequences save in different After effects versions because my project was to big to work with one final after effect version.
I would like to use Adobe dynamic link to send all the seuqences into Adobe premiere to make a "one sequence" that I could export.
But when I am using Adobe dynamique link, I need to close and open the differents versions saved in after effects.
When I do it, the sequences appear offline in Premiere.
What can I do to see all the sequences online?Do I have to work with affter effects online all the time?
    Thanks a lot,
    Alice

First and foremost, running After Effects is not necessary so as to be able to work with dynamically linked compositions in Premiere Pro. PrPro invokes headless version of AE in the background so as to communicate with dynamically linked comps.
Second, while working with dynamically linked compositions avoid incremental numbers at the end of your AE projects names. Better yet, avoid incremental numbers at the end of your dynamically linked comps names as well in both AE and PrPro by giving them meaning names instead of default ones. If you really need to include incremental numbers in those names, insert them somewhere in the middle. The bug related to incremental numbers at the end of the names was biting strongly in CS5.5 (don't remember if CS5 was affected as well) and was claimed as fixed in CS6.
See also this good old thread about Dynamic Link workflow: when it is wise to rely on Dynamic Link and when - on a digital intermediate. Pay attention to Todd's comments.

  • After Effects Error: Unknown Adobe Dynamic Link Exception

    I am using latest CS4 PP / OctoCore / 16 GB RAM / OS 10.5.6
I am not even using any Dynamic link references - just working within AE CS4 in a 1280 x 720 comp and every 10 minutes I get this error:
"After Effects Error: Unknown Adobe Dynamic Link Exception"
Is there a way to disable Dynamic Link in AE CS4 (turn it on and off)? I am not using it therefore do not need it. Anyone know the cause of this error?
    Peace.

Hello, I can confirm Mylenium's point on MP. I checked multiple times with MP on and off. Then I started to check and uncheck the dll space checkbox in combination with MP. Allways the same result: MP lead to the error message when I did a RAM preview. I then removed all scripts from the "scripts" and the "sriptsUI" folders (I have Zorro and the like, too). Same difference. MP was the only factor that had influence on my machine.
I am using a Vista 64bit Quad at home where I tried this. At work I am on a 8core MacPro, with MacOSX 10.5.8. There I did not experience difficulties with MP.

  • Does Adobe Dynamic Links slow down the rendering process ?

    Hello everybody,
I have a question concerning Adobe Dynamic Links.
    This is my problem :
I work on After Effects. I have a composition that is rendered quite fast. (almost in real time...)
But when I open the linked comp in Premiere Pro, it lags as hell. Maybe 2x, 3x slower.
So I'd like to know why Adobe Premiere Pro is slow, while After Effects is fast ?
    Is this normal ?
What can I do about it ?
    Thanks,
    Regards.

Because you wouldn't want After Effects to take over all resources from Premiere Pro when you are working primarily in Premiere Pro and just using After Effects as a helper application through Dynamic Link.
But I primarly see this when I'm exporting via AME. This pulls in not only PPro, but also AE, etc., all through DL. And everything comes to a halt whenever a lower third shows up to be rendered, because AE serializes the process. So my eight core processor becomes a one core processor until that seven seconds or so of footage goes by. And that, is silly. Sorry to have to call it what it is. And it's a serious performance problems that Adobe should address and fix. Truly.
I guess my "real" question is, why is this an Abobe problem in the first place? This is, or at least should be, an OS resource allocation and scheduling problem. Same as memory allocation should be handled by the OS's Virtual Memory system and not by Adobe. I was taught that problems like this were the whole point behind the a multi-tasking scheduler.  Yeah, I know -- back then we had Unix and VMS, and today we have Windows and OSX. This is... progress?

  • Why does my Premiere CC 2014 crash every time I use "Adobe Dynamic Link" and have After Effects CC 2014 open in the background?

    Here are my MacBook Specs:
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012)
    2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
480 GB Solid State SATA Drive
    750 GB SATA Disk
I use "Adobe Dynamic Link" mainly for typography and some animation, but not to the point where it would stress out Premiere CC 2014.

    Chris,
It doesn't crash for everyone.  A person could be forgiven for saying, in return, "Please sort out your **** system problems".
Trust me when I say many, many problems are caused by the computer system setup not being up to the needs of this cutting-edge graphics software.  Photoshop is heavily dependent on the GPU, and GPU drivers are notorious for having bugs (they're primarily written to run games).
However, that being said, recent driver releases from both ATI and nVidia do actually work pretty well with Photoshop CC 2014.
What video card do you have?
What display driver version are you running?
If you're unsure how to tell these things, go into Photoshop, choose Help - System Info, copy the data, and post it here.

  • How do I close Adobe Dynamic Link Manager & Adobe Media Core to install After Effects?

when i try and install the after effects cc it tells me to close the following programmes: after effects, adobe dynamic link manager and adobe media core.
How do i close the last 2??

You can also restart your computer to make sure that everything has been quite that needs to be. Restarting before and after installing major software is a good idea in general, anyway.

  • With Adobe Dynamic Link do you have to buy a suite to be able to use it or can you buy just After Effects and Premiere?

The company I work for has me on Sony Vegas and After Effects right now.  I am working on getting over to Premiere.  On my personal computer I bought the suite and I have Adobe Dynamic Link and love it.  My questions is since they purchased After Effects already would Adobe Dynamic Link work if they just bought Premiere.

    > CS6 will only be available for purchase until May 30th and then Creative Cloud takes over completely.
That is not correct. We are still selling CS6 software for quite some time. Where did you see an indication otherwise?
Regarding Dynamic Link: In the current versions of the applications, no suite is required. For example, if you have the single-application subscriptions for both Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, Dynamic Link works between them. Dynamic Link is still limited to working between applications that share the same major version (i.e., CS6 with CS6, CC with CC, and so on).

  • Adobe Dynamic Link Error

Lately, when I try to open a Premiere Pro CS3 or CS4 project in Encore CS4, I set this error message: "an adobe dynamic link error occurred". It used to work but now it doesn't. Anyone know why?

Something went corrupted in your system you will have to run the Clean-up Scripts and reinstall.
Best thing to have full functioning Reinstall from a Clean Formated hard Drive

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to open a Premiere Pro CS4 file (*.prproj) but the bar that appears sating 'Opening file' (or similar) gets stopped before finishing to load the file.
I tryed to export some sequences using Adobe Media Encoder CS4 (I wanted to rescue my work), but when I have to select the sequences that I want to export, it says that there is a problem with Adobe Dynamic Link.
Any idea for rescue the file?

  • Import Premiere Pro Sequence grayed out in Adobe Dynamic Link

I'm using PPro CC, and encore CS6. I have created a finished sequence in Premiere Pro, and I want to bring it into Encore. When I go to -> file -> adobe dynamic link, the premiere pro sequence option is grayed out. Why?

OK, well that explains it. Does that mean that if I import a PProCC sequence into encore,
It means you can't import the sequence itself. You must export a file of some kind from PR/AME, then import that. And yes, there is no way to get your CC projects to update automatically to Encore. You must export a fresh file. You can use "replace asset" and such to simply changing the file.
I went to the link above, and was somewhat distressed to see that the industry is moving away from physical media in favor of streaming. Won't happen in my lifetime, but a world without books and records and DVDs and CDs, etc.? Scarey!
Adobe needed some excuse, and that was theirs. There is clearly a very significant number of users that are a) event videographers/editors who must deliver DVD/bluray to clients and b) hobbyists who want the disk format for themselves and to share. My favorite guesses are a) that Rovio's takeover of Sonic/Roxio voluntarily or involuntarily squeezed Adobe financially or b) they don't want to invest the dollars in other aspects of fixing/upgrading Encore.
