Adobe EPIC_APP error

Hi all, I've been using Adobe Acrobat 8 for a while to combine my jpg. files into one pdf. file and it was working fine until a few days ago, where I get this message:
Adobe EPIC_APP cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching EPIC_APP.
I've tried following the instructions (by launching Photoshop), yet this problem remains. Re-installation was also given a go, but to no success. If anyone could help, it would be really greatful, as I've only seen this happen on the Macintosh forum (but using Windows Vista, their solutions wouldn't help).

This is typically associated with a licensing error. You might want to try the suggestion in the following technical note even though it's for Vista.

    I have Adobe Acrobat Professional installed as part of a legal copy of CS3 Web on a Dell Lattitude D830 with Vista Business SP1. I have been using Acrobat without a problem until the latest update (8.1.2). After the installation I now get "A serious error has been detected and Adobe EPIC_APP cannot continue. Please reinstall the application and try again".
    PS I opened Photoshop, Dreamweaver and other programs in the suite and do not have a problem. A search on the forums and Google shows other people with the same problem but no solution. Any suggestions?

    An answer I found on Yahoo seems to solve the problem. I'm leaving it here in case someone else has the same problem:
    Uninstall.
    Reboot.
    Install with Admin privileges ( right-click on setup.exe >Properties>Compatability Tab> Select Run as Admin)
    Run it at least once from an admin account so it has access to Shell32.dll and can set the proper settings.

    I installed Adobe InDesign CS3 then CS4 today - when i open Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 - it says Adobe Epic_App cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Epic_App.
    Even if i open an InDesign document - it still comes up with this message.
    How do i fix this?

  • EPIC_APP Error on Startup

    I used the Adobe 8 Customization Wizard to create a transform for our college so that I can get a silent install with the Serial No. pre populated. I used the files I received via the FTP site for the Opt-out option. The install is pushed via Zenworks without error. Every time I run the app though after about 5 seconds I get an EPIC_APP error and it closes. I keep thinking it has something to do with the Opt-Out, but that is just a guess. I checked the XML file and the one on the hard drive seems to be the correct one.
    If I manually install via setup.exe everything seems to work just fine, but pushing via Zenworks with only the acropro.msi has worked before in previous versions. The push I created for Reader 8 works with no problems whatever.

    The exact same problem existed for Symantec, leading me to believe that there is more than one connection between the licensing and installation procedures of Acrobat and other Adobe products and Symantec products.
    Allowing Adobe code to operate outside of a protected environment periodically permits short-term use. However, over the space of two weeks (and seven weeks or so for Symantec), these programs did not run without licensing problems no matter how many licenses I own.
    I run Vista 64 bit, and originally excluded both DEP and UAC in order to complete the Acrobat 8 installation after getting my first EPIC license error. The error did not include until I tried a trial version of CS3.
    I signed off of another forum because I thought I had cured the problem, but am again getting the same EPIC error due to other factors.
    This should be approached much more directly with Adobe, and hopefully some of you have done so. Unfortunately, the response of Symantec support was eventually to give me some of my money back. While there are many other security solutions, including some interesting beta solutions, I cannot give up Acrobat 8.
    Incredibly, despite the fact that these problems are clearly licensing based problems, one response to this issue was that licensing was too complex and most did not understand it. I believe that licensing is the bedrock of this problem, and that the software used by two or more software vendors is not doing the right job, violating everyone's licensed rights.

  • Adobe Air error message when using  PSE 10

    When I try using the tips in PSE 10 I get an error message from Adobe Air stating that it is damaged. Have tried uninstalling and re-installing, but that hasn't helped. I have windows 7

    Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details. We don't even know what exactly you are trying to install.

  • Adobe ExportPDF ERROR: "An error occurred while trying to access the service"

    I have been attempting, for two days, to get Adobe ExportPDF to convert a PDF file (appx 32mb, orignially created in Word, but with handwritten notations throughout) to Word (either .docx or .doc, or even RTF). The app spends about 5-10 minutes processing the document, then I get the error cited in the question. I have gone through the forums to looks for solutions, and I have (as a result) turned off the OCR and changed it to "Do not recognize text" to try and remedy this. I have also tried this over two days to best ensure that this is not an Adobe server error. Can anyone help?  I should also note that the app did successfully process two PDF documents prior to this attempt with the larger document. I am running iOS 10.8.3 on a Mac Pro desktop.

  • Adobe Reader error with PDF reports created using AS Reports Server 10g

    Hi,
    Recently when trying to run reports in our system (which uses Oracle Application Server Forms & Reports Services 10g - 10.1.2.0.2), sometimes when we try to run a report in PDF format the following happens:
    1. A new window appears as expected
    2. This window hangs/appears to try to load for a couple of minutes
    3. Eventually an Adobe Reader error message appears saying the following:
    *"There is a problem With Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again".*
    I have noticed that this problem only seems to occur when the client has Adobe Reader 9.3 installed (8.2 works fine).
    Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a known workaround or is this a known issue?

    If that doesn't solve the issue for you, please provide a few more details about when the error occurs (when you open Acrobat, or try to print to PDF, and so on). Also let us know what version of Acrobat you're using, and on what operating system.

  • Adobe reader error - Faulty module: Comctl32.dll

    Adobe reader error - Faulty module:  Comctl32.dll
        Running Windows 7 Home Premium, SP 1.
    Computer is ACER Aspire -4830TG laptop, with 8GB RAM, i5-2430M intel processor.
    Not sure when this happened, but am unable to open Adobe Reader 10.  Error indicates the fault module to be Comctl32.dll, specifically,
    C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.7601.17514_n one_41e6975e2bd6f2b2\Comctl32.dll
    Size is 619KB
    Reader will initialize, but blank out and freeze as soon as it attempts to do anything, including displaying a menu bar.  I have reinstalled Reader several times and have removed it first.  It appears that the issue is really the Comctl32.dll file.  There are so many versions on my system can't figure out how to tell if it is corrupt. 
    Virus scan shows no risks.
    Unable to rollback far enough to make a difference.
    Anyone else have a problem like this?

  • Adobe Air Error - Initial Content Could Not Be Found

    I'm using BBC iplayer desktop and trying to download programmes.  I keep getting an Adobe Air Error saying 'initial content could not be found for this application'.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Air but keep getting this message.  Any ideas?

    I have After Effects CS4 and my operating system Snow Leopard.
    When I mean it doesn't work, I mean it won't load up when after it pulls up that error message. I'll click on the After Effects icon, it'll load as usual, then it'll pull up that error message.
    After Effects warning: a compressor used in an output module template could not be found. The animation compressor will be used instead. ( 44 :: 18 )
    I click okay, it closes, and then I have an error saying that Adobe After Effects has crashed.

    when trying to upload a PDF file to my WD4A application and extract the data I am getting this ADS Error:
    ADS: com.adobe.ProcessingException: Error exporting Data into PDF - PDF Exception: Invalid object for the XFA entry in the forms dictionary.(200201).
    The error only appears when I`m trying to upload a PDF file that has been created after an Java Script Update of the Adobe Form Builder. My actual version is 710.20070621204053.403203.403203 - ContainerFoundation_JS.
    All PDF files created before this update can be uploaded without problems. Am I missing something to be updated?!

  • A fix for Mac users encountering "unable to reach Adobe servers" error

    Seemingly out of nowhere - i.e., not coinciding with any Mac OS, or app updates - I started getting the "unable to reach Adobe servers" error from the Creative Cloud desktop app.  Signing into the Adobe website was impossible, too.  When I say impossible, I mean it literally - the login window would not display, in Safari or Chrome.
