Adobe File Window repeatedly opens on boot-up of PC ??!!!?!

Hi, I've checked all the posts and don't see this anywhere
else so here goes.
I like what I see program-wise BUT, how do I stop the Adobe
file window opening each time I boot-up my PC?
This maybe small and insignificant to some but I am beginning
to find it pretty irritating.
I boot up and there it is, after usual system tray load-ups
etc up it pops. The open window displaying the contents of the
Adobe.com files.
I have checked the root and it states, correctly as far as I
can tell, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat.com yep that's where it's
loaded, but why is it popping-up open on my Desktop open each time
I boot-up?
I have checked my preferences and find nothing to invoke
this, I am definitely sure it isn't open on the Desktop when I shut
down so how and why is this happening.
I have never seen this behaviour before with other programs
and can only assume it's something to do with the Beta version, and
an Adobe burning desire to keep reminding me that "I'm here!".
Before I uninstall completely (assuming that will cure this
narcisstic little annoyance), any suggestions would be most
welcome.
Thanks, Rob.

Hi Dean & Pete thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
You may well have identified an install problem when you
asked "did you upgrade to Reader 9 from an earlier version"
Yes I did, one of the reasons I was bothered by this
auto-launching of the Acrobat.com file window is because I had just
completed a total clean install of operating system (XP Pro) onto a
brand new hard drive and I have been very choosy about what I 'OK'
for start programs when loading or reloading all my software.
Adobe Reader version 7 was installed during me loading
Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus.
I was aware there were several upgrades to 7 and went along
to Adobe's site to download the very latest Reader version, this is
where I discovered Acrobat.com Beta
Maybe the problem is part of a leap-frog of several versions
and why that this happens?
Also, thanks to Dean for a workaround, makes sense and worth
doing if I couldn't solve the problem, as I really like the look of
what's developing with Acrobat.com
The great news is I have found a cure without uninstalling
anything.
What I did was go into my startups via System tools/System
information/Software environment/StartUp Programs and there is an
'updateMgr' for Adobe reader version 7 and Adobe Acrobat
Speedlauncher (Type: 'Global')
Due to the Windows system information appearing not to allow
me to change any of the settings, I have use a neat little freeware
program called System Explorer (
http://systemexplorer.mistergroup.org/
This has enabled me to easily disable the two Adobe startups
that seemed to be conflisting and causing the problem, and now
everything seems back to normal, with no Autolaunch of the
Acrobat.com file window and total use of Acrobat.com from my
desktop shortcut.
Hope this helps others!
Regards, Rob.

  • Linked adobe file will not open in Word 2007

    I open a word document (.docm) from a share point site and inside it is a linked adobe file. When I try to launch it, it gives me an error that the file cannot be found, server location not available, etc..
    However, if I open Adobe Reader first, then this word document, the linked adobe file opens fine.
    Help please.

    Hello there,
    By default, Adobe Captivate 4, should create a .bak file. Try removing the file suffix .bak, see if you can open the file from this backup.

    Did simply re-installing Adobe Reader solve this issue?  I am having the same problem.

  • Preferences window always opens after boot.

    After working on my new iMac for a couple of days, I now notice that every time I switch on the Mac, when it presents the desktop, it always opens the preferences window.
    This doesn't happen after the Mac is simply woken from sleep.
    It's not a big deal, but maybe it's an indication that something needs my attention.
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • Firefox opens all adobe files with firefox web browser. I disabled add-on, but it still does it. How can i disable this feature?

    All adobe files now automatically open in firefox web browser, even when opening them from widows explorer. I want all adobe files to be opened in adobe reader as a default. Yet I disable the plugin Adobe Acrobat 11.0.9.29 and it still does this. I can't use firefox this way.

    When you open a PDF file that you saved to your computer, by double-clicking the file, does it open with Adobe Reader or with Firefox?
    If the PDF file opens with Adobe Reader then follow the instructions in [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]] to set Adobe Reader as the application for Portable Document Format (PDF) in your Firefox Options for Applications.
    If the PDF file opens in Firefox when you open it from your hard drive, even though you have Firefox 33 installed, try uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox:
    #Download the latest Firefox version (currently 33.1.1) from [https://www.mozilla.org mozilla.org] and save the setup file to your computer.
    #*Note: You can use [https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/new/?scene=2#download-fx this link] for the online (stub) installer or choose the full installer for your operating system and language from [https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ this page].
    #After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click the Exit button [[Image:Close 29]]).
    #[[Uninstall Firefox from your computer|Uninstall Firefox from your computer]].
    #Reinstall Firefox using the setup file you downloaded before.
    <b>WARNING:</b> Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your [[Profiles|Firefox profile]] data.

  • Open Adobe Reader window in BSP

    Hello,
    From our BSP application, I was able to generate PDF form and open a Adobe reader window with the form in it, but after the reader window open, I lose the control for oringal BSP application, the IE windows of BSP application is hanging there, without any response.
    Thanks in advance for help!  Here is my implementation:
    1) Our BSP application is within CRM IC framework (based on BSP)
    2) I created a new BSP page with flow logic with MIME type application/pdf
    3) A button trigger page navigation from default.do to new BSP page
    4) In OnInitialization event of new BSP page: I code to generate PDF form and open the PDF window:
      call method response->set_content_type
        EXPORTING
          content_type = 'application/pdf'.
      response->set_header_field(
                        name  = 'content-disposition'
                        value = 'attachment; filename=Act_Printing.pdf' ).
    finally display PDF format in Browser
      l_pdf_len = xstrlen( l_xstring ).
      response->set_data( data   = output-pdf
                                   length = l_pdf_len ).
    ***Up to now: a new adobe reader window is opened , but the oringal BSP window lose the control.
    If I add extra code to navigate to default.do as below, I did get control of the BSP window BUT the adobe reader window does not open at all:
    Navigate to default.do
      navigation->next_page( 'BACK_TO_CONTROL' ).
    navigation->next_page( 'BACK_TO_CONTROL' ).

    Thanks Durairaj  !
    I tried navigation->response_complete( ), but it does not change the system behaviour, the same problem is still there.
    Any idea?

  • Why will adobe file will no longer open from a website?

    On a Macbook using 10.6.8 adobe file used to open from websites and has suddenly stopped opening.

    Just to add I had a prolonged discussion with the person on AdobeCare twitter, and they sent me to this page: Error "Licensing has stopped working" | Mac OS
    Which didn't help as those are solutions up to Os x.7
    And the little license repair software that they advise you to download doesn't work on my system.

  • Dreamweaver CC files window over all other apps.

    I have a 2 screen setup with a custom palette layout which is part of my long standing workflow, and I am working on a Mac.
    On my right screen i tend to have the "files" window (why is this a window and not a palette?) fairly big and centred as this in one of the mosted used windows for me.
    On my left screen is where I right my code. So I then decide to preview my creation, and either cmd-tab to browser of choice or even click on Firefox in the dock and switch to the browser.
    Only to be left with the file window left in the middle of the screen OVER the active browser! You can't get around it. Even if you click ont he browser window it stays put.
    I have checked a few other apps to see if there is any others and it remains over the top of;
    Apple mail
    Firefox
    Adobe Illustrator (but not photoshop or fireworks)
    Safari
    Finder
    A total nightmare. In my opinion the files window has been broken for at least the last 3 version. Ever since it stopped being a palette and became a window.
    Anyone else having this?

    I'm also having this issue and it's annoying to say the least. I run dual monitors and have my email open on my secondary monitor along with my files window. In previous versions switching from Dreamweaver to Mail wouldn't have any issues, Mail would just move itself to the top. Now, when I switch to Mail, the files window stays overtop. This pretty much means I cannot look at an email that has client changes while looking at my Dreamweaver page since the files window remains overtop of Mail.
    This isn't just a matter of changing how you work, it's a fundamental flaw. When you switch applications, the active application should always appear over any other application. It would be nice to have a fix for this so that Dreamweaver behaves like any other application running on the OS.
    I also occasionally work on another computer with a single monitor. I'm constently having to close and open the files window so that I can work on my file. This is even within Dreamweaver. I click to open a file in the files window, it opens fine but remains behing the files window requireing you to close the files window.

  • Problems with Files window

    Hi - I am having some issues with the files window in DW. (window>files). I have recently upgraded to CC (v13.0) from CS5. I now have three principal problems:
    1. In CS5 when you clicked onto the workspace when the files window was open the files window went to the back so you could start work immediately. It was then retrievable via cmd shift F (Mac). Now the window doesn't disappear when you click on the workspace it just sits there blocking it out until you either hit F8 or the red cross in the corner of the window. Man this is annoying, I etimate it adds somewhere between 20 and 30 separate actions an hour which can be some hundreds a day. I am missing something? Is there anyway to get the files window to go to back when clicking on the workspce?
    2. The scroll on the files window is really jerky and slow - it's as if it was trying to access the files on a server on Mars via a 28k modem. If I move the scroll bar there is a significant delay before the files move - any fixes?
    3. The 'modified' column is blank - it used to give a modification date - which is really useful, if not vital if more than one person is working on the site - any ideas?
    Thanks in advance for help.
    Martin

  • My mac repeatedly reflows the screen and all the open file windows. why is this happening and how do I fix it? it happens while using Adobe InDesign 3.

    this happens from time to time and I think in the past I have done a restart to make it stop. it's possible it only happens while using Adobe InDesign CS3 but I have not watched diligently enough to say for sure. the hard disk repeatedly, every 30 seconds or so, spins up and the entire screen reflows, finishing on the finder with open windows all opening in order. everything moves. then I need to go back to InDesign only to have it happen again. I don't necessarilly touch any keys or the mouse. as I type here it has stopped so maybe it really is an InDesign issue. does anybody know what's going on?

    BDAqua and old comm guy,
    thanks so much for the good advice. I used both of these and now the problem has stopped. first I checked the finder crash logs and yes, my finder had been crashing repeatedly.
    next I removed the preferences files from the library, rebooted from the CD and ran disk utility to repair preferences. since then my computer has been stable.
    there were some preferences that didn't get repaired when I ran disk utility. I am copying them here to refer to later if I need to. I don't understand what these mean to me:
    Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Versions/A/Resources /DiskManagementTool" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Warning: SUID file "usr/sbin/pppd" has been modified and will not be repaired.

  • When I open a pdf file, Firefox opens a blank window, then the file opens in a Adobe Reader window. How can I stop the blank window?

    Whether I am using Firefox 3.6.8 or Thunderbird 3.0.6, clicking on a pdf file opens a new window. After a few seconds the pdf file opens in a separate Adobe Reader window. When I am done with that and close it, I still have to go back and close out the blank window. Got to be a configuration issue some place. I have tried several settings under Tools/Options, but haven't found the right setting yet. Any suggestions?

    Thank you very much for the reply. I followed your instructions. This fixed half of the problem. Links to pdf files that are on web pages now come up with a box that asks if I want to open or save the file, without a blank browser window in the background. That is great.
    When I tested the fix with pdf file links in email, the problem still exists. I tested links in Outlook Express, Yahoo mail, and Gmail. Any time I click on a pdf link in an email, a blank Firefox window opens and then I get the small window that asks me if I want to open or save the file. Sounds like this is a configuration issue, not a technical problem. Thanks for your help.
