Adobe Fireworks CS4 Queries

Hi,
I am new to Firewroks CS4 and keen to learn to use it right but I am having difficulty understanding the whole slicing and exporting mechanism, so that I can also use in Dreamweaver CS4.
Basically, I am unsure how to do the following and if anyone can assist with the process or point me to a possible online tutorial, that would be great.
What I have is a header banner image where I also have the name of the site to the left of this header banner.
On this same header image, I want to place two buttons (with rollover effects if possible), to the top right area of the header image, with links to another URL.
Now the things that I am unsure how to do are based on the above description are:
1) How can I make the name of the site section only, to the left of the banner as a link to a url when the user hovers over the name part only, the mouse hand turns into a pointer and gets redirected to url
2) The same goes for the two buttons that I have created as two individual symbols?
3) How can I slice the above two queries, so that I can export into Dreamweaver, so that all the required code comes across with all the desired effects, that is, when previewing in Firefox, all hovering on site name and two buttons work as requried?
I am just undure how to slice it? Unsure if I have to assign hotspots to the sections? Just unsure how to export it.
Would really appreciate any help to get me started or any good tutorials that demonstrate the above.

The same. Since each button symbol is a seperate slice you can add different URLs to them.

What I would do, instead of exporting code from Fireworks, is export images only, and add the code in Dreamweaver. If you must do iy from Fireworks, remember to put each element in a seperate slice. It would be easier to advise you if you could upload a copy of your file.

No need for hotspots unless you are creating an image map. Any coding, behaviors, etc will be exported with the HTML attached to the slices.

Adobe Fireworks CS4 freez on create album

Hi,
I'm trying to use Adobe Fireworks CS4 with all the latest update on a Macbook Pro computer with OSX 10.5.8.
Everything works fine, except for the following.
I use commands - create slideshow.
Then I create an album and add pictures.
When I issue the command create, everything works fine.
But ....
From the moment that I choose to rotate a picture, the create process freezes when it reaches that specific picture and I can only cancel this.
Is there anyone who can tell me a solution or workaround?
Next to that, I also have an issue with multiple albums. When I use multiple albums and use the album properties to add a description and a thumbnail to a specific album, I always see that this is removed as soon as I click another album.
It would be very helpfull if anyone knows a solution to both these problems.

Reinstalling CS3 Why the is it asking for Adobe Fireworks CS4

When attempting to reinstall my Photoshop CS3 on my Mac because of the clone brush not working I am prevented from doing so because It is asking for Adobe Fireworks CS4. Thanks

"An internal error occurred" Adobe Fireworks CS4 login problem

When loading up Adobe Fireworks CS4, I keep getting "An internal error occurred" message. I have looked before online for solutions and tried isolating potentially corrupt fonts that could be preventing the programme not loading as well as deleting the Prefs.xml file. However, these solutions don't seem to work.
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Please let me know the following:
1. The exact version of Adobe Reader on your system. You can get the same by clicking on Help > About Adobe Reader.
    If its not Reader 10.1.3, please update to the latest version and see if it solves the problem.
2. Which antivirus software are you using. Can you try disabling the same and see if it solves the problem.
3. Are you using any 3rd party plug-ins? If you are not sure, then please delete all files and folder present at:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\plug_ins
    Now try and repair the installation from the Control Panel > Programs and Features.

Snow Leopard 10.6.2 recommended for Adobe Fireworks CS4

The release of update version for Snow leopard by Apple is expected to fix some random crashes which have been encountered while working with Adobe Fireworks CS4.
Once the Snow Leopard machine has been updated, the version should read 10.6.2
Please go ahead and update your boxes to this update.

My experience is that there are certain .ttf fonts that are great in Windows but not at all compatible with Mac, and they can cause issues with software that uses fonts.
Case in point:
I have two PCs and a MacBook. I have virtually Identical software suites on them all (Office, CS4, PSElements, Full sets of browsers). I also have a font library of around 5,000 fonts.
Until last month, I just ran them all from the system fonts folder. On the PCs, this lead to slooooooooooooowwwwwwwww running in all of CS4 and Word in Office especially when I had to change a font.
On the Mac, it kept Fireworks from launching altogether. It would just crash at the splash screen.
Since I work from Time Machine and ghost backups, reformatting a hard drive and reloading everything is just an afternoon for me. I reloaded all three systems, this time with Suitcase Fusion to manage my fonts. It comes with FontDoctor to ID any bad fonts before setting up a library from the full set.
On the PCs it ID'd about 35 bad fonts and I chose to eliminate them. On the Mac, it ID'd about 135. Again, I did away with them.
End result: Office 2007 and the 2010 Beta are lightning fast now by comparison, and on the Mac, Fireworks is fully functional.
Since the only thing I changed, was the fonts (removing bad ones from each system and using a manager to activate them) I can safely say that fonts will have an impact on your software.
If FontBook ID'd them as bad, dump them. They'll likely cause more trouble than they're worth if you don't.

Can't Open Fireworks CS4 in Mac. Error Message

Hello,
I have had CS4 for 2 years almost and recently Fireworks won't open. When I click on the icon, I get this error message (below). I have updated by my Mac OS and Adobe updates with no success. I thought about uninstalling and reinstalling Fireworks, but it says I would need to deactivate my serial number from within Fireworks. Since I can't open Fireworks, I can't deactivate it - so presumably I wouldn't be able to reinstall it.
All my other Adobe products are working fine - it's just this one.
I operate Mac 10.6.7
Any suggestions? I'm not a graphic designer, so if you're able to assist, pretend you're explaining to an 8 year-old! :-)

Thank you Linda, I thought I would post here since other users may have had a similar experience. My next step will be to reinstall the software since I'd rather not pay for their technical support if it's a simple fix - thus the posting here.

How can I turn off the "open in tabs" in Fireworks CS4?

I found out how to do it in Phoroshop CS4 ( preferences> interface, uncheck "open documents in tabs) but I can't find an option to turn off the "open in tabs" for Fireworks. I realize that I can open documents in tabs and then drag them apart, but it would be much preferable to have each document open in it's own window as they have in previous versions of Fireworks. I frequently need to compare documents side by side and tabbing back and forth is doesn't work for me.

Are you on Windows or MacOS X?
For Windows version, not sure this can be done.
On Windows XP, see this example path:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Adobe\Fireworks CS4\English\Fireworks CS4 Preferences.txt
Close Fireworks CS4, then open this file Fireworks CS4 Preferences.txt with Notepad and find key:
<key>OpenNewDocumentAsTabs</key>
<bool>true</bool>
Change the "true" to "false", save the file. Open Fireworks CS4, and see if there's any difference...
On Windows XP, I do not see any difference. But I see that once I have floated one of the files open, all the next files I open, become floated too (not opened as tabs!). So this may help you maybe?
If you are on Mac OS X, search for a similar preferences file for Fireworks CS4 and see if it helps you edit "OpenNewDocumentAsTabs" key from "true" to "false".
Not sure if this helps you much but at least I tried...
If nothing helps, this is my suggestion:
1) Open Fireworks.
2) Open a file, "float" it away from the tabs area and it will be un-docked and then, all other files you open later, will be not opened as tabs...

Error 2 when installing Fireworks CS4 Trial?

Hey, I keep getting the Error: Error 2 when ever I try to install Fireworks CS4 Trial, downloaded from Adobe.
Installing: Adobe Fireworks CS4
Adobe Exstention Manager CS4
After its pretty much done, it say's finished but with Error's, hit view info, and I keep getting Error 2.
Tried dowloading the trial from other sites, and that still doesnt work.
All my Adobe products of CS3 have been uninstalled.

I've got to say - I owe it all to a guy called Justducky on macosx.com. Still, here's the story. After search around I found his post about a similar problem with Dreamweaver. He dug, and delved and worked on permissions etc but nothing worked.
Finally he got down to the solution:
Uninstall everything Adobe. I mean everything. AIR, flashplayers if you can. Everything. Delete .plist and .pref files that have adobe in the name (carefully).
Create a new account that has admin privileges (not convinced this was necessary but don't know Macs enough to confirm)
Safe Boot and log into the new account
Install Fireworks.
And there you go, it works. Simple eh? As an extra precaution when installing Fireworks I only did the bear minimum. I didn't install Air, Media Player, Bridge etc. I have done now and they work.

Fireworks CS4 Internal error when starting

Hello,
Have upgraded to CS4 Web Premium yesterday. Everything seems
to working fine except for Fireworks.
When trying to load it says 'Fireworks can not be started,
internal error occurred' . This always happens on the splash screen
at the point 'Initializing Tools'
I have tried re-installing, I have tried removed Application
Data and renaming the Control Panels folder (read this somewhere as
something to try) but nothing resolves the problem.
At the moment I have to revert to using Fireworks CS3 which
continues to work without any problems.
Help!

When you say that you deleted the whole Adobe folder do you
mean the one I described
(C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\)? The only reason
I ask is that you say in your earlier post that you were playing
around with "Program Files/Adobe/Fireworks CS4".

After installing Safari andAdobe fireworks CS4 will not open

I recently purchased the new Mac OS X Snow Leopard and I cant get my Adobe Fireworks CS4 and Safari browser to open. I downloaded safari 5 today thinking that might help my browser but nothing. When I click the Safari icon, it shows it is running and then there but no actually page pulls up. Any ideas what is going on?

I have been working on this since I posted. The error messaged popped up several times during automatic updates the past couple of days. When I first had the opportunity to update, I selected both iTunes and Quicktime. I received a message iTunes was updated, but there was an error updating Quicktime. I cannot remember the exact message, but it basically said to install the update manually from within Quicktime. I did not do that until I figured out what was going on with iTunes. Anyway, I finally updated Quicktime manually, and after rebooting, I was able to open both Quicktime and iTunes. When I finish working tonight, I will reboot and hopefully, be able to open both again. As of now, iTunes is working. Thanks.

I have CS3 on my computer as well. I have had a love/hate relationship with Firewire and Dreamweaver going back for many years. I was hoping they would get better when Adobe bought them out, but I guess not.
They are both practically unusable on my old PowerPC, but acceptable on my Intel MacBook. Not great -- just acceptable.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
