Adobe flash is installed, but firefox won't use it

I have flash 11.1 installed. It's icon appears in my app list, but firefox' add on list doesn't have it. How do I fix this?

I have a very similar problem, as do lots of others judging by the number of posts in this forum. I use Flash rarely, so unsure when things went wrong, but I first noticed with Fx 34.0. I tried 34.1 - same. Now on 33.1 - same. Not prepared to try reinstalling any earlier versions as it's so much work (have to uninstall Fx completely, reinstall from backup and set up Fx completely from scratch including all add-ons).
What I have found is that if I reinstall Flash, then it works the first time Fx is used. Once Fx has been completely closed down, then Flash will not work in Fx again until Flash is again reinstalled. Obviously this is not a working solution.

  • Adobe Flash-says installed, but isn't???

    1. I downloaded and installed Adobe Flash, got message that it was successful, I now had Adobe Flash, BUT nothing needing flash works, so I checked all programs & Adobe Flash is NOT listed; so I checked Control Room>Uninstall-and Adobe Flash is listed but shows 0 memory under size.
2 So I uninstalled it, and returned to website, repeated download and install of Adobe Flash. Same thing.
    3.Rebooted and repeated 1 & 2, same results.
    4. When I installed, all 3 times, got error message that I needed to close internet explorer, which I did but still got error message. Kept clicking Retry, finally got past that, install looked like it went well, %'s went to 100%, said complete, I clicked finish.

  • I have the latest Adobe flash player installed but it does not show up in my add-ons or plug-ins on Firefox 3.6. In the plug-in check, it recognizes that the shockwave flash is up to date. How can I have the plug-in appear and be enabled on firefox?

I have uninstalled the flash player and installed it numerous times with no recognition by the Firefox plug-ins. I also have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it as well. I have also restarted my computer several times as well. The flash player is certainly installed but not working on Firefox. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Adobe Flash - Not Installed, but is??

I was acessing a website that stated I needed to update my Adobe Flash, tried to upload and I just got the page that showed me what to expect and not update.  So I uninstalled the version I had and tried to upload the new version.  Still nothing happens, it's like it's there but not there.  When I go to the adobe site to see what version I have it tells me that it is installed and that it is version 10.3.181.26.  When I look in my All Programs I don't see it, but when I do a search on Adobe Flash Player in my All Programs, I find install_adobe_flash file.  But it won'd install.  I am using Windows 7, IE 8 and it does not indicate  64 bit.  Any help would be appreciated!

Hi readerbob1, I see what is happening now. The way the Forum works when anyone first registers, is that they select an option to receive email notifications from the Forum. Now when jek56 started the thread, then anyone that posts a message, he will receive a notice. If he chooses to reply by email, then his email address is posted also. Not a good idea since this is a Public Forum.
Since you posted a message on this thread, then you too will receive an email notification. Anyone and everyone that posts a message to this thread will receive an email notification. I receive many, since I'm on many threads. Right now I have around 1300:-)
So you thought you were replying to jek56. You were, but doing it via the Flash Player Forum.  I thought you were ignoring Pats' request that you start your own thread.
Ok, now that we have that cleared up; just a bit of advice to avoid this in the future. Whenever you or anyone that may be reading this receive an email notification, then just page down a little and use the "visit the message page" That will bring you directly to the thread and will not bring your personal email with it.
Sorry for jumping the gun; so I'll take back what I said.
But honestly, it would be so much easier if you started your own discussion. Like Pat said it can get very confusing for everyone, since you may follow directions that are meant for someone else and vice versa.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Flash Player installed, but content doesn't work

Adobe Flash Player works after I install it, but then
evenually it stops working. I have tried lots of support methods,
including downloading Microsoft's tool to fix permission errors. I
    am using
Windows Vista Home Premium and the latest version of
    Adobe Flash Player.
I noticed somewhere that there was an old thread like this
with someone having the same problem. I saw that someone who
replied showed a screenshot of what the permissions for
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT should look like. Interestingly, they
    don't appear to match.
    Here is the screenshot:

Please help me fix this problem. Without
Adobe Flash Player, I can't do numerous things, such as
    watch videos on
    YouTube.

I have solved the problem, thanks to this post:

  • Adobe Flash Player installed - but not working

I have Windows 7, 64 bit, with Internet Explorer 11.  On the day before Thanksgiving everything was working fine.  I received a greeting on 11/27 and was unable to open it - I was told I needed to install Adobe Flash Player - assumed it was an update - but since that time I've been unable to open any of the puzzles on Shockwave, or cards from greeting card providers - probably some other things, but I haven't found out about them yet.  Every time I try to open any of these programs, I get a message that I need to install the flash player.  My control panel shows that I have Adobe Flash Player 15 Active X, 6 MB, version 15.0.0.239 installed and the add-on manager under tools says it's enabled - but it escapes me what it's enabled to do other than drive me batty and waste all my time.  I've rebooted the computer, closed all IE windows, numerous times after uninstalling the program and then reinstalling it - all a waste of time.  Is there any advice out there?  Linda Kochefko, El Dorado, KS

is Active X Filtering something that should show up under Tools, Manage Add-Ons?  If so, I think I had it earlier this week, but it's gone now.  In my efforts to eliminate the Flash Player so I could reinstall a working copy, I may have uninstalled too much.  It's not listed under Programs or under Tools at this time.

  • Adobe Flash plugin installed but not showing up

Since 2-18-2013, my Adobe Flash Player is neither appearing as being installed with FireFox19 ... NOR does it work on any website other than the Adobe "verify" page. I have:
    a. Removed Flash Player and rebooted
    c. Reinstalled Flash Player from download location; rebooted; restarted FireFox.
    d. Removed latest flash player (per "c" above); rebooted.
    e. Downloaded a older version of F/P, rebooted, restarted.
Bottom line: No Flash Player works.
When I (somehow) navigated to the "about:plugins" there is NO Flash Player.
HELP ... I'm a senior and so frustrated now.
    Thanks in advance.

My problem is exactly the same as the first poster. No doubt if I started a new question there would be someone telling me "that questions already been asked". The point is those solutions and all the solutions suggested on firefox support aren't working for this problem. That this occurred only with the new version of firefox is indicative of a deeper problem specific to this build.

  • Flash is installed, but Firefox cannot detect it?

I've got Flash 10.3 installed ([http://dl.dropbox.com/u/104526/FF-InternetPlugins.png screenshot of installed system plugins] screenshot of installed system plugins) and yet Firefox will not detect its existence. I've tried reinstalling both Flash and Firefox to no effect. I'm a little stumped, to be honest.

  • I have Firefox 36.0.4 and Adobe Flash 17 NPAPI but Flash Player does not appear in my plugins

Thank you in advance for your help.
I have a HP 6910p running Windows Vista Business, and updated Adobe Flash to 17 NPAPI, and Adobe Shockwave Player to 12.1 and I am running Firefox 36.0.4. Adobe Flash is completely missing from my plugins, but it does appear in my program manager. I can not play any video in Firefox at all. If I go to a video site like YouTube the screen freezes then this message appears - "Shockwave Flash may be busy or have stopped responding. You can stop the plugin now, or you can continue to see if the plugin will complete."
I desperately need some help as I refuse to rely on the evil minions at Google by using Chrome which captures your every keystroke.
I have checked and both Adobe Shockwave Player and Adobe Flash are installed correctly.
    Does anyone have a solution.

The plugin uses the name "Shockwave Flash" which I do see in your "More System Details" so it must be set to either "Always Activate" or "Ask to Activate".
This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with the Flash Player plugin. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
    (1) If you have any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.
    (2) Disable hardware acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
That takes effect the next time you exit and start Firefox up again.
    (B) In Flash, right-click the media and choose Settings, then the first mini-tab and uncheck the box to use hardware acceleration. More information in this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
    (3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista and higher)
The protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin has security benefits, but seems to have compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it by creating or editing a settings file. The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that:
    * Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]
    * Manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/968190?page=5#answer-509209
    * Batch file to automate the manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/982093#answer-518078 (alternate version of Carm's batch file with a few changes by me: [https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=f7d304d92388737d&id=F7D304D92388737D!336&ithint=file,.bat&authkey=!AP2FXW2Y_3BXZyo])
Flash needs to completely unload from memory (exiting and starting Firefox up again might help) before this takes effect.
    Any improvement?

  • I have Adobe Flash Player Plugin for Firefox, but I'm still missing Flash Player?

So I have installed the latest version of Adobe Flash Player Plugin for Firefox, and I'm able to watch youtube videos on my browser and other things that require flash player, but I have a disc that i got along with my Samsung monitor, and when I put it in my computer, it says that I do not infact have flash player. Also, when I try playing a game, DawnGate, theres a black box where a video should be, and it says that i do not have flash player, and it is required to watch these videos. I tried uninstalling, and I was unable to watch youtube, and when i reinstalled, I was able to watch youtube again, but that did not fix my problem. Is there something I'm missing? I look forward to hearing from someone soon.

Odds are it's looking for the IE plugin: (A lot of software just assumes ALL Windows users are "slaves to Microsoft" and only have IE installed.)
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
    or the standalone Player:

I'm having the same problem. Was working fine yesterday, was watching videos half the day. Gone onto various sites today and I keep getting the same message:

Tried pretty much all the advice online regarding what normally happens when flash player won't work, to no avail. Now I know I'm not the only one.
