Adobe Flash Player hangs IE8
This is on a Vista Home Professional machine.
After upgrading to Internet Explorer 8, the browser crashes
after several minutes -- usually after several tabs are opened at
the same time.
I have disabled ALL add-ons...and through process of
elimination discovered that the Flash Player is the culprit.
I have uninstalled (using the special uninstall tool) and
reinstalled Flash Player several times. I've even looked to see if
there were old versions of Flash Software still left on the
computer. All appears clean.
The only way to close IE8 when it hangs is to either "Log
Off" or "Restart/Shut Down". I cannot close IE8 through the Task
Manager as I'm given an error message about not having access.
Other software that could affect this outcome are: SpySweeper
and McAfee Security Suite.
When Installing (and consequently uninstalling) the Flash
Player, I have Shut Down SpySweeper and disabled Virus/Firewall/Spy
Scanning in McAfee.
Finally, when I remove IE8 (and restore IE7), these problems
still appear.
I'm at my wits end and unable to get any solution.
Ideas???
I have had ZERO luck getting any Flash Problems solved here.
Good Luck.

Having issues with Adobe Flash player hanging the browser.
WIN 7 enterprise 32 bit / Firefox 19.0.2 /
Internal company website keeps giving attached screen shot error, and hangs the browser when error pops up.
Steps taken:
Uninstalled Adobe Flash player with the file “uninstall_flash_player.exe”
Deleted provided directory in instructions
"Copy and paste the following and click OK.
C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
Delete all the files in this folder."
Rebooted PC and reinstalled the flash player directly from “http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html”
Re launched company website and received same error.
Repeated above steps as well as uninstalled Firefox browser. Even went so far as to remove all profile information to start fresh from all profiles on the laptop with the same results.
Note: The web page will work without the flash player plugin, and my page doesn’t hang the browser. Required to open page in FireFox per company policy.I'm sorry you're encountering this. Could you paste a few of the most recent report ID links displayed when you go to "about:crashes" in the Firefox address bar?
As for workarounds, the first thing I'd suggest is trying our 11.7 labs release which you can get here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer.html
If that doesn't help, please try the troubleshooting steps outlined in this FAQ:
How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
In particular, I'd recommend temporarily disabling protected mode (for troubleshooting purposes only) to see if that addresses the issue.
Thanks,

I am using Internet Explorer 8. I have tried to install Flash Player 10.2.152.32. It goes through the Installation Manager & appears to have done all the installation with no problems. I get no error messages & get an installation done confirmation, but it still doesn't work, I can't view any flash materials. I have tried using the manual uninstall & install for flash player, same result. I also check for shockwave.... add on on IE8 but is not available? I am currently using windows xp 32bit sp3. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mario
Hi, So you don't find the Shockwave Flash Object in all addon category under "Show"? If that isn't Installed, then that is why you can't view Flash Content. That is the Control for Flash Player and it's needed for FP to work.
When the Shockwave Flash Object isn't Installed, the reason can be several things. The Administrator Account that has the Permissions needed to Install Flash Player wasn't used. An Anti-Virus blocked the Install of it. A Virus active or has been removed. A Kill-bit is set in the Registry or just Registry Issues.
Have you had any Virus/Malware? If so what program removed it?
What Anti-Virus/Spyware program do you have Installed?
I would check first for the Kill-bit. This thread has info on it:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/782435?tstart=0
Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash Open Flash and post back the files listed.
I'll check your thread tomorrow.
Thanks,
eidnolb -
(This is a possible solution for most users) I have found that inside the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash (WinXP Home/Pro) (Computer > C: Drive > Windows > System32 > Macromed > Flash for Vista) there should be a file named FlashUtil10b.exe (IF NOT YOU SHOULD UPDATE AS SPECIFIED!) (or FlashUtil10a.exe or for older versions something similar depending on your version), which is the update utility for flash player. Click on this and if it updates, you will have to restart your computer. This should fix any missing files, and update you to the latest version.
On a side note to all those who read this, I downloaded and installed 5 different times, the same version, from different websites, all for the "new" flash version, and they didn't work (this also included trying to update Shockwave player itself). Apparently, going directly to the website and downloading a new version of Adobe Flash Player, and installing, doesn't uninstall the older version, (though it says it does nor does the uninstaller work directly from the website) nor fixes the problem. I assume they are aware of this problem, because they included this bug fix in revision 10b. This fix should work for those of you whom cannot view/see flash images as well. There also appears to be a bug/reference problem with the installation of IE8 giving the error "Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA", when trying to play a Shockwave/Flash file, which seems also to affect Firefox and other browsers. It doesn't recognize that the folder or files that it needs in it, exist. I never had his problem before, until IE8 was installed. I checked which version I had in the system32 folder and found this updater built in to Adobe. Version 10a does NOT automatically update, but version 10b includes this fix. I currently had version 10a when I received this error, and began digging for a solution. Doing the update as described above fixed the problem, and updated it to version 10b.
The new flash version 10b has some new features, such as volume control, auto-updating, and several rendering options for those who may have a faster or slower computer/video card.
I found this works great for XP users but unsure of the Vista users. The process is the same for Vista and the update should still work the same, as long as you run it as Administrator, I assume. I have this also posted on wwwdslreports.com at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22115254-IE-IE8-and-Adobe-Flash-Question and here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22361930-Adobe-Flash-Player-10-Fix-for-WinXP-IE 8-Firefox-ect. It appears to work for everyone so far. I have not heard of any problems from users with this problem running the RC (Release Canidate) for Windows 7 yet.
I hope this works to your benefit.
Please leave a reply to help Adobe and other users know if this fix worked for you or not. If not, please explain what you did, and the effects your seeing, including operating system, site of the flash file trying to view, browser type (ex. IE6, IE7, IE8, Firefox, Opera, ect.), and I will try to help you as best I can.
(I would strongly recommend those not using IE8, or Firefox 3.5, get the updated versions)
If your looking for uninstallers go to this site: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
If your looking for a true full install, you can download this developer version for Windows and Mac: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/10/flash_player_update2_flash10.zi p (44MB) (If you download this, I would recommend you still follow my instructions for the Flash Utility before restarting your computer.)I would recommend all users having problems try the above solution first.
I have posted this on a couple of websites, and so far it has fixed everyones problems.
Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 has Adobe Flash Player coding built into the browser so that it not only loads faster but works better.
You still need to have the Adobe ActiveX plug-in and Adobe Flash Player for both browsers.
I would also recommend you download Shockwave Player 11.
IE8 has tried this as well, but it still has a couple bugs in it.
If you have IE8 or FireFox 3.5 Beta 4, and you are still having problems, then I recommend that you go to www.windowsupdate.com and get all of the latest updates (including SP3), then try this fix again.
Your auto-updater built into windows (If you even have it on) doesn't always pull down every update available for your computer. It only pulls down the manditory ones.
Sometimes you HAVE to go to the website and manually get them yourself. I recommend when you go to the website, you click on custom install and pick every last one of them to install, which includes, hardware and software fixes for your computer.
What a lot of people don't know is that when you have installed and tried all of the recommended fixes that Adobe gives you, and it still doesn't work, is that you are having registry conflicts within your Operating System (OS ex. WinXP, Vista, Linux, ect.), and that it is not the Adobe software at all.
Those are usually repaired by making sure your computer stays up to date.
The fact is the computer world is changing so rapidly that everyone can't keep up. You have to check for updates weekly.
If you fall behind on those updates, then you start having problems with your computer and/or software.
One problem then can turn into many and people get frustrated when something all the sudden just quits working.
Take a day or two at least once a month, and make sure you update and maintain your computer.
This includes disk defragmenting, disk cleanup, and making sure you have all the lastest updates.
You can get to Disk Defrag, and Disk Cleanup by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, then to System Tools.
I would do Disk Cleanup first, then Defrag.
I hope you take this advise into consideration, and that it is very helpful for you.
If you find this useful, please come back and reply to this forum, and let everyone know so that others will be encouraged to do this.
Thanks and goodluck, from another user like you. -
I use filehippo.com to automatically update my applications. So I have Mozella 3.6 and then recently downladed and installed Adobe Flash player 10.1 or the latest version.
I then proceed to http://www.africam.com/wildlife/lc_player_chat.php?sh=nk-1
and found that the picture will not show- I get a running circle and then a brown square instead of the pic.
Now using IE8 and the same version of Adobe Flash Player I get the picture.
This worked in Mozella before the last update of Adobe.
Can you give me any direction to fix this?Hi, not sure what that is about. Did you use the Adobe Uninstaller first and follow the instructions?
I would download the Uninstaller and SAVE it to your Desktop:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Then I would download and SAVE the Installer to your Desktop:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html Use the EXE Installer for Windows/IE
Once you have that done, then Close all browsers, disable any messenger services in the system tray(area near the clock)
Run the Uninstaller and when it is finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.
Then run the Installer and reboot when it is finished.
Then test here and you should see the Flash logo animation and the version of Flash Player that is Installed.

Adobe flash player crashes or hangs!
Ok, so whilst using Firefox, lately adobe flash player has been crashing upon opening a YouTube video. This could be when i click a video and the new page opens and freezes, or when I actually get to the video but it then crashes. Alongside this, sometimes the videos are delayed to start, as in the video starts bufferng but doesn't actually start playing until later.
I've tried many proposed solutions but none seem to have worked
(Tried:
New profile
Clean Install
Clear cache,cookies, etc..
Disable plugins
Addons (video without flash, etc...)
Protected mode (for FF and Flash)
Virus scans (had nothing bad that was scanned)
Disable/ Enable hardware acceleration
Updating Flash (i'm using the latest version... 15.0.0.233)
Alongside this, i've tried using Chrome which also gives similar results, crash, hanging or the video delay at the start.
What could be wrong?
Heres a crash report i submitted (the latest one)
https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/a34c35d8-0588-4dd1-8ae9-7e0412141122disabling flash player seems to stop the problem (should do in theory, anyway). I've disabled it and haven't had any freezes or hangs ( as it should be expected) but videos still delay a bit before they actually play, they stream and stuff but just doesn't play instantly. could this be down to my internet (im using WiFi). i assume by disabling the flash, youtube is using html5? or this other plugin i have called "shockwave for director 12.1.4.154". either way, i'm glad it doesn't crash and freeze, but getting rid of that strange delay before the video starts would be amazing.
all the plugins i have on FF.

Adobe Flash Player Installer 10.1 with 10.6.4 hang on 95%
I have one computer out of 3 totally stopped on 10.1 install. It stopped at 95% and did not go forward. It is not crashed as I checked it is not stalled or crashed. I left that computer on over 5 hours and it stays at 95%. The other 2 install in matter of seconds. I have installed the flash player using the uninstaller. Restart the computer. After a fresh download, restart the computer with no browser open. It still hang at 95% install. I even go so far as zap the P RAM, manually remove all flash files (anything with the word flash via FInd function in 10.6.4 Any idea what I need to get this MacBook Pro to install flash.
I have force quite, unistall and restart and install and it is the same. Any suggestion(s)?Hi, here is the link to the System Requirements for Adobe Flash Player.

Adobe Flash Player 10 works with Firefox but not with IE8???
Hi Gang: I need help, I have downloaded adobe flash player 10, enable my javascript in IE8, but when I attempt to run youtube videos, I get the error message, javascript need to be enable or you need to download a newer version of adobe flash player. I then opened Firefox instead then run the same youtube videos and everything is perfectly fine. Why can't I run youtube videos in IE8 with the adobe flash player 10? What is the fix?
ThanksWhat's (likely) happening is that the HTML wrapper around the .swf isn't behaving... which causes Flash Player version detection to fail. Hit this test page at youtube - you should see an embedded movie with Flash Player version information.
http://www.youtube.com/swf_test.html
You may find success by following the instructions in this tech-note for a complete uninstall... then re-install the latest FP.

Adobe Flash Player 13 hangs up on 50% download when installing.
Hello. I have searched the forums and can't figure this out.
I have 3 Mac computers. 2 2013 Macbook Air Laptops and a Mac Mini connected to a monitor used as a desktop. I can not install Adobe Flash Player on the Mac Mini no matter what I do. All 3 computers have the new Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9- and are fully updated. The laptops have no issue. But every single time I need to see something in flash it notes how it is not installed on my computer, I follow the steps to download, I exit out of everything, I go to install, and after it starts downloading as soon as it hits 50% it hangs up and won't install. I even saw it was an issue and followed Adobe's steps to right click, show contents, and go that rout, but the .pkg file is NOT in the resources file for Adobe 13 the way it is shown in the instructions. When I try to install Flash 12 or Flash 11 it won't let me because it says those versions are not comparable with my machine.
Is there any advice that works with the latest release that I can try or is this not an obvious fix.Try the DMG installer http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac/install_flash_playe r_13_osx.dmg

Adobe flash player either hangs or crashes in Firefox
Adobe flash player either hangs up the web browser Firefox or crashes within Firefox. This has been occurring for about a year even though Firefox and the adobe flash player have been updated and upgraded many times over the last year. Multiple crash reports have been sent to either Adobe or Firefox (I am not sure which one actually gets the crash report) but it appears someone knows about this issue since I seem to be getting more pop up boxes from Firefox now when the Windows 7 system seems to hang (no response from mouse when I try to close the Firefox browser window). The pop up box states that Adobe flash player is not responding or in a loop so when I respond to the pop up window to cancel the task all the flash player displays in all of the open Firefox browser sessions crash. However, if I use google chrome and the same ESPN videos that use Adobe flash player so far I have not seen the same issue of hangs or crashes. So, is this a known issue with Adobe flash player and/or Firefox or has it just never been fixed correctly?
Configuration:
Sony VPCF2390X - I7-2760QM - 8 GB - GEForce GT 540M - 1920 X 1200 Resolution

Message was edited by: Stingray99I use Firefox, which is a leading browser, I think we'd say, and I think I had far fewer plug-ins until I updated to the new Adobe Flash Player today. As for your challenge to come up with a plugin, I'm a poor sucker who's developed nothing more in my lifetime that Word and Excel docs. I'm totally at the mercy of what all software developers throw at the public. As for crap on my computer, I've tried to get rid of everything I can, crap or not, just in case it could affect Adobe Crash. Do you see anything here that looks suspicious?

Adobe flash player stopped working properly
I just purchased a new laptop with windows 7, 9 days ago, and I keep getting a notice that adobe flash player has stopped working properly. My laptop has windows 7 and I use ie8 and of course is a 64bit. I play Farmville alot and have had constant notices that flash player has stopped working properly. I don't know if it is the creator of Farmville but playing the game is choppy, hangs, freezes, and am constantly getting error messages like Microsoft runtime library
I have checked the add ons and flash player is enabled. I followed the troubleshoot a problem and uninstalled and then reinstalled flash player but still have problems. Any help is appreciated.Hi, Thanks. Your Flash Player files and the SWO(if it is vs 10.0.45.2) are correct. Are you having problems on other sites
or just that one? Are you getting a message that is different than "you need to update your Flash Player?"
Many times it is the websites or if you are getting this from a game, then that can be causing the problem. I haven't been
able to determine if the websites that have NOT updated to support the latest Flash Player are just putting out a generic
message or not. You might want to check with the site to see if they support FP vs 10.0.45.2.
You may have an add on that is conflicting also, it is hard to tell. Some anti-virus programs have add ons that may conflict.
Since several users are having problems with Facebook, Farmville, Zynga, etc. my opinion is that it is not your computer.
One that posted here is waiting on a reply.
Thanks,

Adobe Flash Player 11.3 r300 has stopped working
I have Firefox 13.0.1, Win 7 Home Edition 64 bit, latest adobe flash player version 11.3.300.262. Latest nvidia drivers 301.42 - WHQL, 260 gtx nvidia card. I did a clean reinstall for nvidia drivers, and flash drivers, still same problem.
Everytime I go to fullscreen mode, my screen turns white and I have to left click on my mouse so the white screen goes away(otherwise the white screen hangs indefinite), I get a windows message stating adobe flash player has stopped working. After that I get send crash report for adobe.

This never happened with Adobe flash player 11.2, never. With the latest update it crashes, everytime I go fullscreen. This happens on http://www.twitch.tv streams, any livestreams. Youtube seems to be fine, when going fullscreen mode. And no, I don't have RealPlayer installed. I only have 3 addons installed and enable. Adobe Acrobat, Flash, and Silverlight, all latest editions. Everything else is disabled, or uninstalled.
I've Disabled Hardware accelartion in firefox still same problem, but with flash hardware acceleration enabled. I've tried Firefox Safe mode with all addons disabled, same problem.

About in tears from new adobe flash player 10.3 not working
After installing the new Adobe Flash 10.2.153.1 on my Windows7 64 bit computer, it can not be found when using my IE8 (does not show 32 or 64 bit only 256-bit).
I have uninstalled using your reference on "please read: when asking Flash Player questions" and then reinstalled. It is on the programs list as installed but when I go to a site that needs me to use Adobe Flash it says I need it install it. Whn I go to the adobe web site to verify that I have installed Adobe Flash it only has a box with a small red x in the corner.
I have updated my devices drivers. I do not completely understand what a "kill-bit" is; however, I have gone into my registry and there is no registry keys that have {d27....etc}. There are many other numbers and most have a compatibilty flag of 0x00000400. So I must not have a "kill-bit" for Flash Player set. Not sure what that means.
Can you help me? And have I given you enough info?
Thanks for any help you can give me.FYI - have uninstalled adobe flash player since we last replied should I try to install again?
I have checked this too and
*Shockwave Flash Object installed and Enabled. version 11.5.7.
* Yes at medium now (was at med high)
* have mcafee but just installed tonight your recommended microsoft security essentals (did a quick scan tonight)
* C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash - FlashInstall (txt file) and Install (txt file)
* No error messages - was told it was installed successfully
thanks! -
Adobe Flash Player 10, when installed, closes the whole computer when it is used to play any clip from U Tube or other source. I uninstalled it and there was no further trouble but, of course, I cannot view the clip. If I reinstall it the same problem persists. I have contacted my 'computer guru' but his comment is that many of his clients have the same problem but it appears to be a problem with Adobe however many other friends have put in the version 10 Flash Player and have no problems. I do not appear to have any other problems with the computer such as viruses etc and it is scanned very day for such items. I would appreciate any advice you can give as it is very annoying, thanks, RAB
Me too!
On both IE8 and Firefox. Win 7 32 bit on IBM T42 - 1GB ram.
Old laptop I know but the 10.1.x.x Flash Players worked just fine. Problem started with 10.2.152.26 flash player.
Now BBC TV live and iPlayer work just fine, however YouTube does not - audio but no video. Just a black rectangle where the video should be.
Right click to get the menu and "settings" is greyed out. However select the pop-out option and the video plays. Right click on the pop-out and "settings" is available. So deselect "enable hardware acceleration", close the pop-out and refresh the window (F5) and now YouTube videos play. Switch hardware acceleration back on and now they don't.
This video works fine with hardware acceleration enabled. http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/features/video/h264/
These also work. http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/stagevideo.html
Something broken in 10.2, I think.
