Adobe Flash Player / Shockwave Flash Crashing

Adobe Flash and Shockwave Flash are crashing several times a day on my computer.  Windows 8.1 and firefox v 34.0.
I can recreate the issue sometimes by right clicking on flash media, which will lock up my browser for several seconds and then cause a crash.
Can anyone give me some suggestions for where to start troubleshooting this issue?
Thank you,
Bruce

I've seen a lot of stability reports around Windows 8, Firefox and Flash Player.
Both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer have invested heavily in bringing a highly tuned experience and modern plug-in interfaces to Windows 8.  Improving plug-in support is not a priority for Firefox, and although we continue to address stability issue where they make sense, most of what I'm seeing are generic crashes and hangs that boil down into the fundamental inefficiency in retrofitting a modern sandboxing approach necessary to protect users in today's security landscape with a plugin architecture from the 1990s.
While I'm more than happy to take a look at your crash reports, I'm pretty sure that this is the conclusion we'll arrive at based on the last several folks I've talked to about this.

  • What can I do if  shockwave flash player is constantly crashing on google chrome browser ?

What can I do if shockwave flash player is constantly crashing on google chrome ?

I think Google Chrome is more easy to troubleshoot. Try this:
    1. Open Chrome.
    2. Click the far-right Icon (Customize and control Google Chrome).
    3. Select about Google Chrome. It check if Google Chrome is up to date and if not it'll get update.
    4. You must wait until a GREEN check mark appear saying your Google Chrome is up to date.
    5. Remember, you don't need to get Adobe Flash Player separately because Google Chrome has it own integrated Player.
    6. Accept Google Chrome constant upgrade to their Chrome browser.
    Wishing you Good Luck!

  • What are the distinctions between Adobe Flash Player & Shockwave Player & Shockwave Flash?

I find references to what seem to be three distinct things:
    Adobe Flash Player
    Shockwave Player
    Shockwave Flash
Treatment of these things is interwoven and confusing:.
As an example, the Adobe Shockwave Player page at URL:  http://www.adobe.com/products/shockwaveplayer/  provides a link to a page to test whether Shockwave Player is installed.   That test, however, is the test to see whether Adobe Flash Player ins installed.
On my Mac running OS X 10.6.4 Firefox 8.0.1 has a Plug-In named Shockwave Flash 11.0.1.152.
Are these things indeed distinct?  Is it likely that both (or all three) are needed on the same computer?  The Adobe web site should clearly define the relationships at a high level of visibility.

Basically, the Flash player is just that: you can watch videos, but you can't interact with them.
To give it its full name, Shockwave For Director is primarily used for things like games, or demos where the user can interact with the animation.
The current version of the Shockwave (For Director) player is 11.6.3.633 while the current Flash player is 11.1.102.55

  • Adobe Flash player, shockwave just doesn't work.

    For flash player,
I'm using chrome and firefox, somehow flash player just won't work
I checked the flash player is installed, and can see the animation at no. 5
    https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html
But when I tries to view a video from cbs site, it says "Please install Adobe Flash Player to view this video"
And also there's a game I wanted to play on my computer(not browser), and it tells me "Adobe Flash Player or an HTML5 supported browser is required for video playblack. Get the latest Flash Player..."
I checked my chrome and firefox plugins, both are enabled and always allowed to run. Yet why this problem persists?
Also note that this is a new laptop.
    For shockwave,
    I checked this site:
Adobe - Test Adobe Shockwave Player
Somehow it worked for firefox but not chrome?

I'll just copy and paste the whole thing.

  • My Adobe Flash Player Plugin keeps crashing. Annoying

I play games from the developer Zynga and I keep getting Adobe Flash Player plugin has crashed. I downloaded Mozilla Firefox thinking that I would have more luck with it than IE. Not so far. What can I do to correct this?

Reloading the page will often get the video, game or animation to play again.
If Flash continues to crash, updating to the latest version of Flash should fix the issue.
As this has been happening to you for a long time, try this too...
Go to this Flash help page on adobe.com.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html?promoid=ISMRY
Right-click on the box that lists your Flash player version and then click Settings… in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.
Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    Restart Firefox.

  • Adobe Flash and Shockwave keep crashing in Firefox and Chrome.

The problem just started last night.
    Firefox 6.0.2
    Chrome13.0.782.220
I have uninstalled, then rebooted and reinstalled Flash Player, Shockwave, and plug-in for Firefox.
After installing it worked and then stopped working again about an hour ago.
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit OS
    Service Pack 1
NVidia GT220 driver is up to date.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Using FireFox 10.0.2 and Flash Player 11.1.102.62 (or any other combination that I have tried so far) on Windows 7 64 bit, after a few seconds of playing a YouTube video the video freezes up and after a few more seconds I get the frowny face with the message that Flash Player has crashed.  Several people have recommended disabling hardware acceleration but that didn't help.  The only way I can get it to play YouTube videos is to go to FireFox Plugins and disable the Shockwave plugin.  Now I can play YouTube videos, but some videos that come to me from other platforms pop up with the message:  "This plugin is disabled."
I used to be able to play all videos with no problem up to about two weeks ago. I don't want to have to restore to a previous time if I don't have to.
Also, when I use Internet Explorer I have no problems playing either YouTube of those from other sources.
I have seen a lot of questions on this problem but no good answers that have worked for me.
BTW, on each crash I clicked on reload and submit report, but don't know if it goes anywhere.

  • Flash Player 10.1 crashes with IE7, IE8 & FF3.6.6

Hello!  First I'd like to say you all are providing excellent information and help here.  I've read some answers and am very impressed with the time you take to help Adobe product users.  Maybe you can help me too! *hopes*
I have read a couple of the threads to see what I need to provide here.  I hope I give all the needed information.  First of all, I sound kind of like the user 'Carol' who uses Farmville/Facebook and updated to Internet Explorer 8, Flash Player 10.1 and there was another program she mentioned.  Anyway, my problem is similar except FP 10.1 crashes while using FF3.6.6, IE7 or IE8.  I have also reverted back to FP 9 (just to test the browsers) with same results - player crashes.  I have not run my SuperAntispyware to see if a virus could be the issue - although I am suspecting it is Not since so many others are experiencing problems with FP also.  My SuperAntispyware virus protection does not protect real time so there is nothing to disable regarding that.  When I'm using IE I do keep Protected Mode On.  If you would like me to try a game session with it Off, I can try that and provide you with the results, however FF has been my browser of choice lately, but now it is failing me too with the FP.
The sites I am having trouble with are Shockwave.com and BigSeagames.com (instead of Facebook & Farmville like Carol is/was having).  There are certain games at Shockwave and BigSeas that crash consistently.  Another player at BigSeas was told to not use IE, and to try FF.  So I did just that.  It worked for awhile, but then FP started crashing as well.  I have searched FF, Microsoft and now Adobe for help with this FP problem.  It consistently keeps crashing.
You can freely go to Firefox browser and type in the ID for my FF crash reports (listed below) - in the FF browser type about:crashes in address bar; on the resulting screen you can paste in the report numbers, if there is time to look at a couple.  I won't include all the reports, unless you specify that you need them.  Today I have had the most crashes - 12 total!  I have always been an IE-girl  (lol) just because I was so use to it.  I don't really care what browser I use as long as it works!
Thanks for any help you can give and I look forward to hearing from someone. ~Mindy

I've had this problem with Flash Player 10.1 crashing constantly in Firefox 3.6.6 since July 4th weekend.  I eventually installed version 3.6.3 and it stopped happening.
Once I installed FF version 3.6.8 this morning, the problem came back.
I tried this solution and it seems to be working so far (keep your fingers crossed!)
    (from: http://www.technogadge.com/how-to-stop-firefox-plugin-container-exe-process/)
    Steps to stop plugin-container.exe process:
    Open Firefox web browser.
Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter key.
A warning will appear. Ignore it and press the "I’ll be careful, I promise!" button.
In the Filter field type dom.ipc. Six preferences will appear for the filter dom.ipc.
Ignore first and last preferences. Toggle (double-click) each of the four remaining preferences to change the value from "true" to "false".
    That’s it. Look the screenshot.
Explanation: The crash protection feature in Firefox  3.6 is enabled for certain plugins only. The four preferences that we  modified here specifies four different out-of-process plugins. They are  the the NPAPI test plugin, Adobe Flash, Apple QuickTime (Windows) and Microsoft Silverlight (Windows).  These plugins are specified in a separate  dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.<filename> preference by default is set to  true. We can disable them by changing their value to false. And thus  plugin-container.exe will not run. By default the preference  dom.ipc.plugins.enabled is already set to "false". So, no need to touch  it. The dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs is also not important here as other  values are false.

    Hello,
The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a leter version installed.

Flash player 11.1 hack on PowerPC - https://discussions.apple.com/message/16990862
Might be later ones around also... saw 11.3 I think.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.
You should also consider the Shockwave Player, which displays Web content that has been created by Adobe Director, much used for multimedia: For PPC Macs:  http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/
See in each Browser which version of Flash it thinks it has...

  • Installed and verifed but Flash Player continues to crash in Firefox.  Any suggestions

Flash Player sometime activates and then crashes after a few seconds.

Thanks for responding Chris.  Flash Player consistently crashes no matter what site I am in.  I've tried all of the suggested fixes in Flash Player help and nothing has been successful. The computer confirms that I have downloaded the most recent file but Adobe Flash Player doesn't show in the Firfox Add Ons.  I also tried Firefox flash player suggestions but none worked.  It crashes no matter what page I am on.  If flash player is required, it crashes.  It also crashes in Internet Explorer.  I am a novice so please bear with me.  Thanks for any help you can offer.

created by chris.campbell in Using Flash Player - View the full discussionHello,I'm sorry you're encountering these problems.  I'll try what I can to help. 1. Have you tried any browser other than Firefox?  It would be helpful to know if these same types of crashes occur with Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.2. Did this crashing behavior just start occurring?  If so, was there a particular update or event that preceded the crashing?3. Does the crashing happen consistently?  Ie. If you go to the same web page that contains Flash content, does it crash every time you visit?  Does it crash when you visit this page?  Flash Player Help  What pages does it crash on?4. Can you visit about:crashes within Firefox and submit some of the most recent crashes.  Once submitted, please post back with the crash URL's.4. Can you try resetting your Firefox profile?  Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
Firefox Help5. Finally, can you try temporarily disabling protected mode to see if that makes a difference (this will be the last step in the faq)?  How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox? Thanks,
