Adobe Flashplayer - annoying message

I have been using Adobe Flashplayer quite happily without any problems whatsoever, but something started to happen yesterday.
I don't know what caused it.
It might have been that I updated the Flashplayer. There was a popup and it asked me to update the Flashplayer.
It could have been a website I was using. I was browsing about the London Olympics and then this popup came up asking me to allow access to something, and I had to choose "OK" or "Settings". I tried both but none of the selections got rid of the message.
Finally, I just went into Firefox settings and cleared all cookies.
Then this morning, I get another annoying message. The first one has disappeared but another one appears whenever I play a Youtube video.
I tried to solve this problem by going to Old Apps Mac and downloading an older version of Adobe Flash (I uninstalled the current Adobe Flash first) but this pop up keeps popping up in Youtube videos.
I should mention that I use an old version of Firefox (3.6.3) but I have never had any problems for two years using this browser before with Adobe Flash Player.
The other thing is when I try to click on "Allow" or "Deny", I cannot do so. The video plays normally but I can't get rid of the Adobe window and I can't click on the choices.
What I would like to do is to go back to the state of affairs that existed before. Using Firefox 3.6.3 and using Adobe Flash Player without any problems.
I am using Firefox 3.6.3 for my own personal reasons - long story. I don't want to upgrade so that is not an option for me (or as a last resort option).

You are making two big mistakes. I don't know why you can't run the latest Firefox, but Firefox 3.6 is long out of date; it hasn't been supported by Mozilla for security since Firefox 4 arrived (Firefox is now up to version 14.0.1.) There has been a series of at least 6 important security patches. Firefox ESR is now up to version 6, which means by still running 3.6 (I assume it is 3.6.28, the last 3.6 point version), you are missing at least 6 critical or very important updates for security.)
For your purposes, you might look into running Firefox ESR. It says it's meant only for business users with multiple machines and not for individuals, but it will run on your computer, no problem. It will at least, include the needed security patches.

And if you are still using an old version of Flash Player, you are also putting yourself at risk, since Flash is relentlessly exploited;  the latest update is meant to deal with current threats and vulnerabilities.

    cor-el,
Thanks for your prompt reply. However, the sources you gave do not seem to apply exactly to my situation. I have attached some screenshots that show what the dialogue box looks like for a pdf download, and what my settings in the Apps panel of Options are. You will note in the first screenshot that I have checked the box to handle this file type automatically; however, the next time I try to download a file of that type, the same dialogue box appears looking exactly like the one shown, so checking the "automatic" option appears to do nothing. The files to be downloaded from my Gmail messages are not generic or altered file types - they are shown as pdf, doc, docx, etc. So while your intent was good, your post did not help. Thanks anyway.

  • Leapster2 Adobe Flashplayer not working

Installed Leapster2 CD, downloaded Adobe Flash player as requested.  (Windows XP, Adobe version 10,0, 45,2).
When I click on Leapster Connect, it requests the Adobe Flashplayer to be dowloaded..so I download again and it completes.
Try to open Leapster Connect and get the same message.  Can anyone help trying to get this thing to work for my son's bday.
Like to have fixed before husband gets home tonight since he thinks i'm unable to fix stuff like this.

I'm running Vista 64 bit and the current version of Flash (11. whatever) doesn't apparently work with Vista 64 bit - why, I'm not sure but this is what happens when one company dominates the market like Adobe. Anyway, I have the 10. whatever version installed now and Flash is working in Chrome and in IE. This problem occurred because I updated Firefox to version 8, after which Flash was still working with the old version installed. THEN I got the annoyingly repetitive reminder from Adobe to update Flash to 11 and finally succumbed. After updating Flash, I could no longer get sound from any online videos. So I uninstalled, found a 10. version of Flash and figured that would solve the problem since Firefox 8 WAS working before using the 10. version. Not to be. Now I can't get it to work at all. And to tell you the truth I like the old interface of Firefox 7 much better anyway. SO... how do I get 7 back and hopefully resolve this problem so that I don't have to make IE my new browser - which I'm not too crazy to do since I've been using Firefox from day 1...

  • Unable to install adobe flashplayer on mac 10.9.2

Hi I recently upgraded to 10.9.2 and I am unable to install Adobe Flashplayer on Safari.  I've done an uninstall and downloaded and tried to reinstall but it hangs a little more than halfway.  All I get is an error message saying there's an error - no specifics.
Any help here please?  Thanks in advance!

Are you trying to install this: Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.77?
I would suggest doing the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Try installing Flash again.

  • Adobe Flashplayer has stopped working in IE11

    Hi all,
My IE11 does not want to Allow Adobe Flashplayer on webpages. I get the announcement on webpages that require Flash that "This web page wants to run the following add-on: 'Adobe Flash Player' from 'Microsoft Windows Third Party Application Compon...'."
When I click "Allow" it reloads the page and the message is shown again and the flash still not working. Flash works perfectly in Firefox.
This started to occur after this update had been installed "Security Update for Windows 8.1 x64-based Systems (KB3011780)".
I have checked so that the add-on "Shockwave Flash Object" is enabled in the browser and that the Active X filtering is not "checked".

    Hello Rangvald86,
Do you use the Windows 8.1? Based on my test in my environment, I can’t find the same issue.
Please take the following steps to register the flash.ocx file.
    1. Open the notepad and type regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\flash.ocx
    2. Save it as flash.bat and run it as an administrator by right clicking on the file and select run as administrator.
    3. Open the website you were unable to open

  • Adobe Flashplayer will not install

I am trying very unscussefully to install Adobe Flashplayer.  I operate on Windows 7!  I kept getting eroor messages on "social network" sites that I needed Flashplayer.  Well, I had (operative word) Flashplayer.  After several times of errors "installing it", I de-installed the existing one!  NOW, I cannot get any version to install.  If I have to, I can use "restore" but that is NOT really acceptable.  What is going on and why is this product not installing?  I do NOT want any "add on" things like Google Chrome or any other products.  I simply want this product properly installed and functioning on my computer!  HELP!

Click Start, type msconfig.exe, press Enter, click Selective startup, uncheck Load startup items. Click Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, click Disable all, click Ok, click Restart.
How do I do a clean install of Flash Player?
    After the install.
Click Start, type msconfig.exe, press Enter, click Normal startup, click ok, click Restart.

  • Adobe Flashplayer plug-in freezes Mozilla Firefox whenever activated.

I am entirely unable to ever watch a video in Firefox which requires the Adobe Flashplayer plug-in. In fact, IF I activate the plug-in, Firefox goes into a "not responding" mode, which never ends. I DO, after anywhere from 15 to 40 minutes get a script quit responding message, but regardless of how I answer it, another freeze (or the same one) occurs, and after another interminable wait, I get a repeat message. This happens so many times I've left it to run more than 12 hours, then checked it, to find the message windows stacked. When I cleared the last of 20+ windows at the end of the 12 hours, I immediately got another freeze. The only fix to date has been to kill Firefox, either from the Task Manager, or from the "red X, and kill it now instead of waiting" options. Then, on restart, I have to get quickly to the add-ons page, and re-disable Adobe.
The version of Firefox I'm running is 35.0.1
The version of Adobe I'm running is Shockwave Flash 16.0.0.305.
I ran, over the space of 20 hours, several malware hunters (malware bytes, Microsoft System Security, AVG, AVAST, Spybot S&D, and others I can't remember now) with several issues found and cured. None, though, fixed this.
My machine is an ACER Aspire 5732Z, running Windows 7, 64-bit. This problem cropped up about 2 months or less ago. I'm wondering if it is related to the latest version of Shockwave, and possibly occurred after a(n automatic) update.

  • I can't download Adobe Flashplayer

I cannot download the new version of Adobe Flashplayer to my iMac (using 10.6.8, Snow Leopard). Therefore I have little access to video.
When the Blocked Plug-in message comes up, I follow prompts to download the new version from Adobe website.  At step 1 it appears to download. But step 2 is blank, also step 3, and I cannot find the download anywhere in my mac.
Clearly others have had the same problem, as I found some sites with supposed fixes:
I followed one suggestion to download not from Adobe, but from Applestore.  It is not listed in Applestore.
I followed another suggestion to uninstall the old version of Flashplayer, and did so successfully, but the new one still does not download.
I believe one other suggestion is to get free upgrade to Mavericks, which I do not ant to do as it will screw up my iPhoto
I tried calling local store that sell Apple, but the good independent one has gone out of business, and there are no live people available by phone at the others.
    Help!

    Thanks a lot, Kilted Tim.
    Finally, a clear answer!
It infuriates me that a computer I don't consider old at all, and does everything else I want it to (except, since this fall, play what needs Flashplayer) is  considered obsolete.   And that Apple or Adobe does not come up with a fix for this problem.
It was one of the employees at the old, lamented, independent AppleStore that advised me, when I asked about Mavericks... that the real advantage was greater connectivity with all my touchscreen devices (I have none) and warned me about  the iPhoto problem.     Perhaps I mistakenly thought that  also applied to Yosemite...  it's only Mavericks that Apple keeps trying to seduce me to.
It's good to hear you have  had no problems with iPhoto.
I of course back things up regularly--  but if the new system, say, Mavericks, can't read the old iPhoto, then I'm not sure  how backups would help my problem with access to thousands of photos....
Perhaps I could upgrade just to Lion and get back on Flashplayer?
Anyway, I'll start checking  out necessary upgrades.
