Adobe flex and SRM

Hello friends,
Adobe flex is coming up in the market with rocket speed? If I want to compare this product with SRM, what would you think will be the pros and cons/ advantages and disadvantages of Flex over SRM?

Adobe Flex is a collection of technologies released by Adobe Systems for the development and deployment of cross-platform rich Internet applications based on the proprietary Adobe Flash platform. The initial release in March 2004 by Macromedia included a software development kit, an IDE, and a J2EE integration application known as Flex Data Services. Since Adobe acquired Macromedia in 2005, subsequent releases of Flex no longer require a license for Flex Data Services, which has become a separate product rebranded as LiveCycle Data Services.
Pat please help me understand in what ways you want to compare Flex with SRM.?
SRM is a complete ERP product where as Flex i kind of add-on.

Thanks, Flex harUI, for the direction in regards to isolating build changes. That aside (still working on it), can you offer any direction in regards to my original question on SDK and AIR compatibility? I'm specifically looking for a version compatibility mapping or anything that definitively states, "Flex SDK x.y.z works with the following versions of AIR". This information is crucial for us in order to more specifically plan our own roadmap built upon these two frameworks as we consider both existing installations of our software and future distributions.

We try to decide is it possible to use Adobe Flex with WD java for us. So I need to know information like:
1) hardware requirements
2) software requirements (e.g. which versions of SAP NetWeaver are supported, which IDEs are supported and so on)
3) what about licenses - is it free or it necessary to buy it?
4) Adobe Flex and Adobe Flash are the same things or not
5) any other useful information

Integrate Adobe Flex and JBOSS using BlazeDS

I added the following arguments to the flex compiler: -services "F:/java_WS/iASCUE/WebContent/WEB-INF/flex/services-config.xml" . Can I define relate path? when I put my project on other server it don't work

Installing Plug In for Adobe Flex and Using it in developing Application

Hi all,
I'm using NWDS CE 7.1 EhP1. I want to develop application using Adobe Flex for Web Dynpro for Java.
I have downloaded and installed plug named :- ActionScript WSDL Proxy Generator Plug-in 1.0.32
But I am not able to see any change in my NWDS.
I dont know whether what I did is correct or not ! Can anybody pls explain me how to start developing UI in Adobe Flex for WDJ?
I saw one wonderful blog Step by Step Guide for creating Flash islands using Webdynpro Java by Ayyapparaj KV.

I am stuck at step 1.3 (page-4). I am able to see ActionScript proxy generator plug-in in my NWDS's plug-in list. But I am not able to get line :-
locate the ActionScript WSDL Proxy
Generator Plug-in there (plug-in id: com.sap.flex.ws.proxygen.ASProxyGeneratorPlugin).
I am not able to generate anything there.. Also I went ahead with Step-2 and I am able to see project "Runtime" in my Resource perspective.. What is to be done next?

Adobe Flex and ActiveX

Can Flex interact with an ActiveX control? If I have an
ActiveX control
which provides information from the register of the local
computer through
IE, can Flex communicate with the ActiveX control? I
understand that Flex
can communicate with external javascript but have not read
anything on
ActiveX.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have an old sample in which calls were being exchanged
between a Flex app and a ActiveX C++ DLL. You can find the source
code here

The sample has two portions a flex app called CalledApp and a
C++ DLL called CallingDLL. Load the CalledApp project in
FlexBuilder and CallingDLL project is Visual Studio 2003 or later.
Build the DLL and the Flex app. Run the Flex app and click on
the button. When flex app calls the DLL function the DLL calls back
the flex app.

Caching Issues with Adobe Flex and HTTPservice

I faced a strange issue a coupla days back. In one of my Applications I had a Timer which would fire every 10 secs and would fetch data using a HTTPService call when fired. Surprisingly though, the initial results fetched by the HTTPservice was cached and would not reflect any changes when the data changed in the background, in IE, however the problem would not occur in Firefox !
I sort of hacked the HTTPService url to add a random number at the end of the call to make it believe that it was calling a different URL every time and it worked. But I would definitely like to know the reason for this behavior

I ran into the same thing, but it did not do this until recently! I had recently installed Flex 3.0 beta, so maybe something changed with the compiler and/or the Flash VM in this regard. Also, you can change the behavior of the Flex/Flash runtime by changing the caching settings in IE (check page for newer version on each visit).

Directions towards Adobe Flex/ AIR

I am an ABAP developer for 7 odd years and dabbled a bit in ABAP web dynpro, however have not worked on Java or .Net languages. I am keen to work on Adobe Flex and using it as a UI for SAP applications.
Needed advise on where I can start to study up on Adobe Flex considering my back ground.

Hi,
When you say Air setting do you mean creating an Air App ?
If so when you select new flex project from the menu you have a choice to have an AIR app or a Flex app.
You can also change an existing Flex app to an AIR app but not the other way around. This is done by right clicking on the project in the package explorer panel and selecting change "project type".

Getting Started with Flex and Java RPC for Free?

Good Morning,
Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to post- I'm
just having trouble wrapping my head around what is and what isn't
available for free in the Adobe Flex world.
I've been working on an application for the last few months
using Open Laszlo (

but I've been running into frustrations with their lack of
up-to-date documentation, and I've found it difficult to bring new
people into the project, since the set of users who know it is so
small.
While I do like that I can compile to DHTML, that's not
enough to hold me there.
I've been looking into Adobe Flex, and it seems like a good
alternative- I'm comfortable paying $500 for the IDE-
I use Eclipse currently, so having a plugin for it sounds
ideal. That said, when I look into ways to talk to a Java backend,
everything points to Flex Data services, which is now part of some
larger package costing tens of thousands of dollars.
I don't need advanced messages, or data synchronization, as
nice as it would be.. All I really need is the ability to call a
Java method, and get an object back, which I can then work with in
Flex.
I see the forum message that asks
"How
do I 'do' Flash for free?, but this only talks about RPC very
broadly. Given that the message is from over a year ago, I thought
it would be better form to start a new topic, than replying to it.
Can someone explain to me what components I'd need, both on
the client side and the server side?
Is there a set of manuals that explain how to do Flex RPC
from Java?
Can Flex compile to any versions of flash earlier than 9?
(Flash 6/7 is still in wide deployment)
Do I want to start using Flex 2, or Flex 3? Are the
components compatible? Will the F3 docs be ready?
Finally, where can I purchase the Charting components? The
ability to create charts such as
this
overcome a decent price barrier.

I have to do a PoC on Adobe Flex and Oracle ADF. Using the Oracle Business Components I need to display some input forms, charts and tables. I am newbie to both these technologies . I have got some grip on ADF but still need to start on Flex + JSF or Flex + ADF.
