Adobe Fonts used in logo design and copyright laws

Hi, if you are using an Adobe design software such as Illustrator, Flash or Fireworks to create a logo or banner for use as print and or web where it includes Adobe font in the logo and the characters create words ie; the trading name of the business do you need to approach Adobe for permission to use the fonts or is it expected considering the software is for graphical creations?

Why are we now saying that Photoshop can be used for logos? And what is wrong with CorelDraw? For someone who does not want to argue, it seems odd that an argument is happening within their own posts. :)
The ideal logo design tool offers versatile vector path editing tools and spot color swatch capability. Logo designers generally use Freehand, Illustrator, or CorelDraw... which all offer these abilities.

  • Font issue between Reports Designer and Report Output

    Hi.
I've succesfully migrated several reports from 6i to 10g (10.1.2.0.2) with and without parameter form. However, I have the following font issue:
    - When report is run from Reports Designer, font is kept.
    - When report is run from a forms module (through rwserver on the same machine, that is not really from an application server, but using Oracle BC4J or Developer Suite enviroment) the report output is different. In this case a bigger font is displayed and occasional truncation happens for some fields.
The question is: How can i avoid this difference in font behaviour?. Is it font.ali related?. How come this happen on the same machine(Windows XP)? These reports are to be deployed on Linux, where reasonably, and font machine is expected to happen.
    Font used: Arial (Occidental) 9

this might be an issue with the printer that is associated also, and the permissions to the printer that you might have..
login to the application server machine and restart the reports server as an admin..try running the reports via the URL..i have a feeling that this issue might be somethiing to do with the permission(s) to the printer from your AS machine

  • Embedding an Adobe font using Cufon

Hi all, I need some clear clarification from Adobe or someone in the know on whether I can legally embed a font like VAG Rounded which has a 'Print & Preview' license using a technique such as Cufon (similar to sIFR)? The Cufon website (http://cufon.shoqolate.com/generate/) suggests that all Adobe fonts are 'Known to be safe' but I'd like to be sure to be sure!

I have been researching this for a while, to no avail. Adobe is probably freaking out about the possible, unforeseen implications of a blanket "Sure, go ahead" statement.
    Legalese Mumbo Jumbo
Reading through their SLA, Section 14.7.4 states (emphasis added):
You may convert and install the font software into another format for use in other environments, subject to the following conditions: A computer on which the converted font software is used or installed will be considered as one of your Permitted Number of Computers. Use of the font software you have converted will be pursuant to all the terms and conditions of this agreement. Such converted font software may be used only for your own customary internal business or personal use and may not be distributed or transferred for any purpose, except in accordance with Section 4.4 of this agreement.
Section 4.4 simply states that you can't transfer the "software" unless you forfeit your claims to it (ie. sharing).
    What's clear:
You can convert the font: The Cufón Generator converts your fonts to another format.
You can put the converted font on your web server: it's just another "permitted" computer.
    What's not so clear:
What in the world does "customary internal" use mean? I'm convinced that this is superseded by Section 14.7.5 (see below)
Just because you can put the font on your web server, doesn't mean you can make it available to the rest of the world. I'm convinced that the Cufón version, with it's attempts at domain-level restrictions and font subsetting, is not "distributing" the font. Bad people will always try to steal and always have some level of success. If they steal the font from my personal or business computer, am I guilty of "distributing"? So what is the difference between my web server and my laptop at Starbucks? They are both "permitted" computers, they are both accessible to the public, and neither of them are actively "handing over" Adobe's intellectual property.
    Is "embedding" the key?
    Section 14.7.5 states:
You may embed copies of the font software into your electronic documents for the purpose of printing and viewing the document. If the font software you are embedding is identified as “licensed for editable embedding” on Adobe’s website at http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/legal/embeddingeula.html, you may also embed copies of that font software for the additional purpose of editing your electronic documents. No other embedding rights are implied or permitted under this license.
A web page is an electronic document. It is intended for printing and viewing. If you don't allow your visitors to edit your page, it seems like you could ignore the "additional purpose of editing your electronic documents".
This isn't a formal legal opinion; Adobe are you listening?
Proceed at your own risk. Clearly, I'm not a lawyer or an official Adobe spokesperson. That being said, unless Adobe takes a stand on this issue, they are losing out on a potential revenue stream. Why? Because they either miss the opportunity to sell "web page embeddable" licenses OR their fonts get converted into clones and freely distributed all around the 'net. That last point includes the ability to produce print products in addition to web page rendering.
Adobe, sIRF is NOT the answer. It can be decompiled and the fonts extracted. Flash is NOT always an acceptable solution for the web. I have a ton of money invested in fonts, money I have willingly parted with. Just give us a sign that doesn't require lawyers and courts to interpret.
    Push this issue!
Fonts on the web were one of the first complaints of early web designers. Now, we can do some amazing and previously unthinkable things, yet the crown jewel is missing.

  • I am looking for cyrillic Adobe fonts Avenir: Book, Medium, Heavy and Black. Do they exist?

I would like to clarify, if these fonts exist in cyrillic version, and if yes, where???

No, those fonts do not exist in Cyrillic. But Avenir Next supports Cyrillic. It's available at Linotype.
Adobe's fonts that support Cyrillic are listed on this page.

  • Is it legal to use Adobe fonts for a clothing design- that will be for purchase?

My friend is having me take his drawings and turn them into graphics that he will use for his new start up clothing company. There are fonts I have found on the Creative Suite Type Kit I wouldn't mind using. But is that legal?

    Bianca Tessa,
It is: you are free to use Fonts from Adobe for such purposes.

  • Changing the fonts used by the look and feel?

I want to be able to change the font settings for the program I'm writing. Is there any way to do this without writing my own theme and/or LookAndFeel? For example, is there a way to just use the Nimbus Look & Feel, but override the fonts it uses somehow? I've been browsing around and it seems like most solutions are to write your own theme from scratch, which I'd like to avoid if possible (I don't want to change anything else, just the fonts!).
Any help or guidance is very much appreciated. Please let me know if I was unclear.

Thank you both for the links. I realize I didn't ask this initially, and you both answered the question I asked, but I'm actually curious if there's a way to do this consistently across different looks and feels. Just some sort of blanket command that, regardless of what the Look and Feel is, overrides font selections. Perhaps I'm looking for a way to override the mappings of logical fonts? I'm not exactly sure how one would accomplish it.
I don't do this because I want to force the user into using a specific font, but actually I'm trying to add a feature that allows the user to override the Look & Feel's font choices with their own if they so choose.
But I can't control what Look and Feel they're using (well, I can, but I have chosen not to).
Does any of that make sense?

  • I'm going through **** here, using a spanish key board, to lay down fonts, using FCP X, each and every time the "accent" mark is need over a letter, FCP X shuts down...this is the most feckless system I've worked with in years!!

I'm going through **** here. Have a client who needs a spanish version of their corporate presentation. Got the Spanish keyboard up. Each and every time I need to use an accent above a letter...FCP X shuts down. What is going on with this system? The most feckless piece of soffware ever!! Ready to pull out the old tower G4 and cut on the FCP 7...

Okay will do...using the Canadian English Version...
Also, as you well know in Spanish, the "accent" does "slice" either way. Over vowels, such as "a" and "o"...
If you have any more advice...I'll gratefully take it...and a much appreciated "thank you"

  • Wanted to know if Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium is included in Adobe Web Premium

Wanted to know if Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium is included in Adobe Web Premium.  I also wanted to know how can I transfer the license from an old computer to a new one if I throw the old computer away.  Would need the steps or do you just deactivate the old one and if so do I take any information from the old computer

Ok basically I have a user that has an old computer running on XP and I'm in the process of upgrading her machine but she said she had
Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium
    Acrobat X Pro
but the only programs I have are
    Acrobat Pro_10_Web
    Web Premium_CS5_LS1
    Web Premium_CS5_5
    Adobe Acrobat Pro X
So which would I use to get the requested software installed on her machine or do I have to buy another package or program.  Also if I have Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium and Acrobat X Pro on the old machine is there a way to take the license information off the old machine and download the Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Design and install it with the serial from the old machine I would be throwing away?

  • Adobe Muse CC trial has expired and now I cannot enter a activation code for the product

I installed Muse and the original instructions I obtained from my corporate office stated to use the enterprise key for our Adobe package and then accept the trial for Muse. The trial version of Muse has expired and I have a serial number but I can not input it. my options are listed as "buy" or "sign in" if you select "buy" then your are taken to the Adobe website. If you sign in you are prompted to "buy or continue the trial, and if you select continue it states that the trial has expired and sends you back to the screen that tells you to buy the software again. How can I get to input the serial number?

    Hello Aiva,
If you have a creative cloud enterprise serial key, you can serialize Adobe Muse using that serial key and suppress sign in too (Muse CC 2014 64 bit). Please follow the steps mentioned in link below to serialize Muse CC 2014.
    Serialize Adobe Muse : http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/packager/provisioning-toolkit-enterprise.html
    Suppress registration : http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/packager/installing-products-exception-folder.html
    Hope this helps.
