Adobe Freezing (Yes another thread).

Hi,
First off let me say I'm a Software Developer and that malarkey about temporary files causing Reader to freeze is a load of cobblers.
If I open Acrobat Reader on my home PC, work PC or laptop it freezes about 30-60 seconds after opening. It doesn't matter if I open a file from Windows Explorer, by clicking a link in IE or FireFox or even if I just open the Reader application itself from the Start Menu with no file loaded. The latter being a very obvious indicator this is not file related.
When it freezes, it freezes for about 30-60 seconds AND CPU usage stays between 02 and 10. This is not the pattern of an application creating or dealing with temporary files, especially seeing as there are none.
C:\>del acr*.tmp /s
Could Not Find C:\acr*.tmp
D:\>del acr*.tmp /s
Could Not Find D:\acr*.tmp
What I would like is a proper explanation or some ideas as to how I can prevent it. Ever since I installed Reader back in the 90's this has been an issue and I cannot believe a reputable software house can still be hauling such a ridiculous, annoying and very simple issue. I think you should aim to fix this bug instead of adding new 'features', you might claw back some of your users from the likes of Foxit.

Hello all. I have been reading about the whine issue
and I have this. I know that some people say that
they dont have it and good for you. I would like to
know everyone who has had it what you do to get rid
of it. I have done the mirror widget after I figured
out the photobooth trick but whenever my computer
goes to sleep and I open it back up the whine is
back. We all know that some poeople may not have it
or cant hear it thats great for them but for those of
us that do have it I would like to know what you have
done to cope with it.

You need a logic board replacement if the Widget works to stop the noise.

  • Lappy wireless with iwl4965 issues .. yes another thread

    Another thread in the tonne I searched up and completely failed to find a solution to my problem in. Wish I could remember the ancient email I signed up for the forums ages ago with too =[
    Anyways... Problem: All activity drops in mere seconds upon first trying to connect to any site...
    I have the driver installed fine, along with wicd which has control of my wlan0 like it should, the scan of SSIDs turns up fine, I can connect to my network fine too.
    I can get an IP addy just fine, I can ping external IPs endlessly.
    I can resolve IPs it seems, I tried pacman with wget to make sure my IPs were being resolved properly, it always connects and gets the first few tarballs, then on one of them the speed (as reported by wget) drops from full speed to 0 over a few seconds, and it never picks up again, and fails to retrieve any more files.
    http sites are the same, it connects for a second, then is endlessly waiting.
    Would love to get this working, and I should point out I have no problems at all with my ethernet connection.
    Any ideas guys?

    i use the same driver as you guys for my
    Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100
    and "network manager" and have no problem whatsoever.
    To get my wifi working i had to copy the
    iwlwifi-4965-2.ucode
    file into "/lib/firmware".
    Try doing the same, might work

  • Submit in Acrobat 9.4 Reader and Lotus Notes (Yes, Another Thread)

    OK, I've browsed and searched, but have not found a thing like what is going on.  We run V8.0 of Notes and have a form open in Acrobat 9.4.
    I've tried clicking the submit button both inside our ISA server domain and directly attached to the outside modem.
    From what I'n given to understand, a mail client windows is supposed to pop up when submit is clicked, but nothing at all happens.
    The form is from another company who doesn't have anyone else with trouble using the form, so the issue isn't there.
    I've swapped settings for about a week from tips on the forum here and still nada.  Not even an error message pops up...the button "click animates" and then nothing at all happens.
    I've even tried it on my own personal laptop using Thunderbird as the email client.  Still nothing.
    Am I just screwed?
    Thanx!

    Sorry about that, frustration had set in.  I'm using Reader 9.4 and so far as I know, the form is set to relay data only, not the pdf.
    The security that I can see from properties is like this:
    Allowed:
    printing
    content copying
    content copying for accessability
    fillling of form fields
    Not Allowed:
    document assembly
    page extraction
    commenting
    signing
    creation of template pages
    If it only popped up an error message, there'd be something to grab hold of.

  • Spry Menu 2.0 issues in IE7..   yes another one!

    I have CS4, and have used the widget browser to create a Spry Menu 2.0 and have imported it to my site. It displays fine in every browser except for IE7. I have been reading a LOT of threads on issues similiar to this one, so I'm prepared to tell everyone I know to upgrade to at least IE8!! However, I would like to fix it if possible. The menu bar is located in an include file and is attached to all my pages through the php function. I have made zero changes to the css code since I imported it into the site.
    I also am wondering why there are two css pages for the menu bar.??
    Any help would be appreciated..
    One of the pages on the site is: michaelandrewshairstudio.com/offers.php
    That page is: ( I have taken out some meta tags and content, but the div's are all still in place.) I also deleted some commented tags by accident when I imported it..

    /* IE6 rules - you can delete these if you do not want to support IE6 */
    /* A note about multiple classes in IE6.
    * Some of the rules above use multiple class names on an element for selection, such as "hover" (MenuItemHover) and "has a subMenu" (MenuItemWithSubMenu),
    * giving the selector '.MenuItemWithSubMenu.MenuItemHover'.
    * Unfortunately IE6 does not support using mutiple classnames in a selector for an element. For a selector such as '.foo.bar.baz', IE6 ignores
    * all but the final classname (here, '.baz'), and sets the specificity accordingly, counting just one of those classs as significant. To get around this
    * problem, we use the plugin in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js to generate compound classnames for IE6, such as 'MenuItemWithSubMenuHover'.
    * Since there are a lot of these needed, the plugin does not generate the extra classes for modern browsers, and we use the CSS2 style mutltiple class
    * syntax for that. Since IE6 both applies rules where
    * it should not, and gets the specificity wrong too, we have to order rules carefully, so the rule misapplied in IE6 can be overridden.
    * So, we put the multiple class rule first. IE6 will mistakenly apply this rule.  We follow this with the single-class rule that it would
    * mistakenly override, making sure the  misinterpreted IE6 specificity is the same as the single-class selector, so the latter wins.
    * We then create a copy of the multiple class rule, adding a '.SpryIsIE6' class as context, and making sure the specificity for
    * the selector is high enough to beat the single-class rule in the "both classes match" case. We place the IE6 rule at the end of the
    * css style block to make it easy to delete if you want to drop IE6 support.
    * If you decide you do not need IE6 support, you can get rid of these, as well as the inclusion of the SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js script.
    * The 'SpryIsIE6' class is placed on the HTML element by  the script in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js if the browser is Internet Explorer 6. This avoids the necessity of IE conditional comments for these rules.

    I love your subject line
    Spry Menu 2.0 issues in IE7..   yes another one!
    It is us as designers/developers that need to create websites for all current browsers. No sense in blaming the browsers, although in this case we could blame Spry Menu 2.0.
    Problem with that is that Spry Menu 2.0 has been successfully tested in all modern browsers.
    This leaves us with just one possibility, the designer/developer has erred somewhere along the line. After having checked the support files (JS and CSS) and looked at the markup, we now go to the constructor and see the following
    var MenuBar = new Spry.Widget.MenuBar2("#MenuBar", {
        widgetID: "MenuBar",
        widgetClass: "MenuBar  MenuBarLeftShrink",
        insertMenuBarBreak: true,
    A comma after the last value.
    I also am wondering why there are two css pages for the menu bar.??
    One is the standard CSS for the menubar and under normal circumstances, should not be touched; the other is for the convenience of the designer/developer so that he/she can tweak the menubar to suit. If you wish, you can combine both. In all cases, keep in mind that the CSS for the standard (basic) menubar should come first, so that the other CSS can override the first.
    This needs to be corrected in your document

  • Keymapping (follow up from another thread)

    To follow up on another thread, I checked out the keymappings and found most of what I was looking for.
    Only a couple of things I miss:
    1. SHIFT + TAB doesn't pull the text back with it if the text is not selected. I am convised most editors do this and I keep find myself trying to do it in JDev and it doesn't work, and then I go in a huff.
    2. Ctrl+K, Ctrl+L to perform a word match forwards or backwards, based purely on text in the document, ie. not syntax/context sensitive. This was one of my most used/most time saved features in Netbeans.

    Hi,
    don't understand what 1) is supposed to do. Can you explain this further? Winword and TextPad behave differently. I tried NetBeans and shift+tab is doing nothing.
    For 2) Is it the same as
    pressing ctrl+f to enter a search string and then continuing with F3 for forward matches and shift+F3 for backward matches? If you select a string before pressing ctrl+f then this string is added to the search list.
    If yes, then you can change the key mapping in Tools-->Preferences --> Accelerators to the keyboard combination you are most familiar with (look for "find").

  • Running another thread not to block UI

    I do some heavy operation inside the actionPerformed (load images from File Chooser, resize it for display and populate it in the ScrollPane etc) and I realize that the windows freezes until the whole operation is finished. And it doesn't really help that I do repaint() or validate(). I make some research and some of the books and people from forums say that I actually needed to dispatch another thread to run the heavy operation. So that I won't block the UI interface and can update things accordingly. But the problem is, I don't have any clear example to understand this concept. How to clean up the thread after operation finished. How can a thread notify the progress back and etc. I need to know how much images has been loaded so that I can update the progress bar and so on. Can anyone help me point out a good example? :D

    Think I should show my code snippet to you
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
            if (e.getSource() == BtnBrowse) {
                int returnVal = fcSelectFile.showDialog(this,"Select");
                if (returnVal == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) {
                    file= fcSelectFile.getSelectedFiles();
                    //This is where a real application would open the file.
                    Thread worker=new Thread(){

                                selectedFile=new JLabel[file.length];
                                while(count<file.length)

                                    String actualFile=file[count].toString();
                                    String fileName= file[count].getName();
                                    selectedFile[count]=new JLabel(createImageIcon(actualFile,fileName));
                                    SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable(){
                                    public void run(){
                                    PnlImageHolder.add(selectedFile[index]);
                                    PnlImageHolder.repaint();
                                    PnlImageHolder.validate();
                                    count++;
                    worker.start();

  • Adobe freezes opening certain PDF Files

    Hi!
    We have a problem with the new Version Adobe Reader 9. When you open certain pdf files by double clicking them in Windows Explorer, Adobe Reader 9 Window opens and then freezes at 100% CPU load.
    Other pdf files are OK.
    Open Adobe Reader first and then choose File - Open works too.
    Common thing of both pdf files is that they were created out of Winword printing it against a pdf printer called "pdf x-change".
    Open the file with Version 8 or Foxit Reader works.
    Any hints?

    Sorry, no solution - i can not force everybody in the world to use adobe acrobat. Another customer had exactly the same problem with another pdf that was created by someone else

  • Killing an exec'ed process from another thread

    Hi all,
    I written an application that executes some external OS - processes. There is a dispatcher thread, that starts the execution threads for some jobs. Every execution thread creates a Processes by calling runtime.exec(), adds this object to a TreeMap ( member of the dispatcher ), creates two threads for reading the output of the process ( sdtout & stderr ) and calls p.waitFor(). From this moment this thread is blocked. After the process is done, the results will be processed by this thread etc. Now I want to go ahead and let the application user kill the process. For them I let the dispatcher - thread, that has also a reference to the executed process to call destroy of it if necessary during the execution thread is blocked by waitFor() and two output threads are reading stdout & stderr. The problem is however that destroy() - call from another thread doesn't kill the subprocess. The subprocess is running until it's done or terminated from out of jvm. Have you an idea or example?
    Thanks a lot & regards
    Alex

    >
    I know you have been discussing your problem is that
    you can't kill a "sleep" process. But just to be
    sure, I tested your description by one thread exec-ing
    a "not-sleep" program, and then another thread had no
    trouble killing it.
    I took your code and wrote a program around it such
    that
    Thread1 :
    - creates a Job (but not a "sleep" job); creates a
    JobMap ; puts Job in JobMap
    - starts Thread2 (passing it JobMap)
    - sleeps 15 seconds
    - calls Job.kill() (your method)
    Thread2 :
    - gets Job from JobMap
    - calls Job.execute() (your method)
    It's quick and dirty and sloppy, but it works. The
    result is when the kill takes place, the execute
    method (Thread2) wakes from its waitFor, and gets
    exitValue() = 1 for the Process.
    so,
    In order to kill the sleep process, which (according
    to BIJ) is not the Process that you have from exec
    call, maybe the only way to kill it is to get its PID
    an exec a "kill -9" on it, same as you said you had to
    do from the commandline. I don't know if you can get
    the PID, maybe you can get the exec-ed process to spit
    it onto stdout or stderr?
    (I am on win, not *nix, right now, so I am just
    throwing out a suggestion before bowing out of this
    discussion.)
    /MelHi Mel,
    yes, it should work right on windows because you created probably the shell by cmd /c or something like this. If you kill the cmd - process, everithing executed by the interpretter will be killed too. My application is running on Windows and unix. On unix I have to execute the process from a shell ( in my case it is the born shell ). The problem is however, that the born shell has another behaviour as cmd and doesn't die. Do you have an idea how to get the pid of the process started by sh without command line? To kill the processes from the command line is exactly what my customers do now. But they want to get "a better service" ...:-)

  • LocalReport.Render freezes in multi thread program

    I have a program that is trying to render multiple PDF's asynchronously using the task object. For each iteration, I create a new task object that will call a method that also instantiate a new LocalReport object. The problem occurs when I try to render
    the report using LocalReport.Render(). It just freezes there without any errors. Even when there is only 1 task created, the LocalReport.Render just freezes.
    When using LocalReport.Render outside of a task object, it works fine and I was able to generate a PDF.

    The exact same rules for multithreading apply to both static and non-static methods--if the method accesses any shared variables that might be accessed by another thread, and if you need atomicity or need threads to see each others' updates of those variables, then you need to synchronize.
    In your particular example, there are no shared variables, so it doesn't matter.

    Yes another user with problem with Apple Mobile Device Support, I am getting the error message: Service 'Apple Mobile Device'(Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Vertify that you have sufficient privileges to start system service....I hit retry and it came up again. I hit ignore and it prompted me to hit finish so Itunes can open.   I looked thru alot of these posts on here to try and resolve this problem myself but it's not working too well...I downloaded Itunes to my desktop so I can right click it with the program i downloaded called WinRAR. I extracted it and then went into the folder called Itunes64setup. I saw the file called AppleMobileDeviceSupport64 in there so I began to try and download it on it's own. Well that didn't work as I planned and got this error message:
    Apple Mobile Device Support wasn't installed on your computer. The installer encountered errors before Apple Mobile Device Support could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time,please run the installer again.
    Well I tried to run it again and came up with the same message...I see that some people got great support to help them so I am hoping someone can help me as well. I know "b nor" is very qualfied and hopefully can help me! Please advise what I can do. Thank you

  • How can I pass an exception from one thread to another thread

    If I create a new class, that will extends the class Thread, the methode run() can not be use with the statement Throws Exeption .
    The question now: Is there any possibility to pass an exception from one thread to another thread?
    Thx.

    It really depends on what you want to do with your exception. Is there some sort of global handler that will process the exceptions in some meaningful way? Unless you have that, there's not much point in throwing an exception in a thread, unless you simply want the stack trace generated.
    Presuming that you have a global handler that can catch exceptions, nest your Exception subclass inside a RuntimeException:
    public class NestedRuntimeException extends RuntimeException
        private final m_nestedException;
        public NestedRuntimeException(final Exception originalException)
            super("An exception occurred with message: " + originalException.getMessage());
            m_nestedException;
        public Exception getNestedException()
            return m_nestedException;
    }Your global handler can catch the NestedRuntimeException or be supplied it to process by the thread group.

  • How to refresh a JTable of a class from another thread class?

    there is an application, in server side ,there are four classes, one is a class called face class that create an JInternalFrame and on it screen a JTable, another is a class the a thread ,which accept socket from client, when it accept the client socket, it deal the data and insert into db,then notify the face class to refresh the JTable,but in the thread class I used JTable's revalidate() and updateUI() method, the JTable does not refresh ,how should i do, pls give me help ,thank you very much
    1,first file is a class that create a JInternalFrame,and on it there is a table
    public class OutFace{
    public JInternalFrame createOutFace(){
    JInternalFrame jf = new JInternalFram();
    TableModel tm = new MyTableModel();
    JTable jt = new JTable(tm);
    JScrollPane jsp = new JScrollPane();
    jsp.add(jt);
    jf.getContentPane().add(jsp);
    return jf;
    2,the second file is the main face ,there is a button,when press the button,screen the JInternalFrame. there is also a thread is beggining started .
    public class MainFace extends JFrame implements ActionListener,Runnable{
    JButton jb = new JButton("create JInternalFrame");
    jb.addActionListener(this);
    JFrame fram = new JFrame();
    public void performance(ActionEvent e){
    JInternalFrame jif = new OutFace().createOutFace(); frame.getContentPane().add(JInternalFrame,BorderLayout.CENTER);
    public static void main(String[] args){
    frame.getContentPane().add(jb,BorderLayout.NORTH);
    frame.pack();
    frame.setVisible(true);
    ServerSokct ss = new ServerSocket(10000);
    Socket skt = ss.accept()'
    new ServerThread(skt).start();
    3.the third file is a thread class, there is a serversoket ,and accept the client side data,and want to refresh the JTable of the JInternalFrame
    public class ServerThread extends Thread{
    private skt;
    public ServerThread(Sokcet skt){
    this.skt = skt;
    public void run(){
    OutputObjectStream oos = null;
    InputObjectStream ios = null;
    try{
    Boolean flag = flag;
    //here i want to refresh the JTable,how to write??
    catch(){}
    4.second is the TableModel
    public class MyTableModel{
    public TableModel createTableModel(){
    String[][] data = getData();
    TableModel tm = AbstractTableModel(
    return tm;
    public String[][] getData(){

  • Catching an exception thrown from another thread

    I have a SocketServer that creates new threads to handle incoming clients. If one of the threads throw a SQLException is it possible to catch that exception in the SocketServer that created that thread.
    I tried implementing this code and I cannot get the server to catch an exception thrown in the thread. Are my assumptions correct?
    I was reading something about Thread Groups and implementing an uncoughtException() method, but this looked like overkill.
    Thanks for your time!
    Some Example code would be the following where the ClientThread will do a database query which could cause an SQLException. I'd like to catch that exception in my Socket Server
          try
                 new ClientThread( socketServer.accept() , host, connection ).start();
          catch( SQLException e )
                 System.out.println( "DataSource Connection Problem" );
                  e.printStackTrace();
          }

    hehe, why?
    The server's job is to listen for an incoming message from a client and pass it off to a thread to handle the client. Otherwise the server will have to block on that incoming port untill it has finished handling the client and usually there are many incoming clients continuously.
    The reason I would want to catch an exception in the server based on the SQLException thrown in the thread is because the SQLException is usually going to be due to the fact the datasource connection has become unavalable, or needs to be refreshed. This datasource connection is a private variable stored in the socket server. The SocketServer now needs to know that it has to refresh that datasource connection. I would normally try to use somesort of flag to set the variable but to throw another wrench into my dilemma, the SocketServer is actually its own thread. So I can't make any of these variables static, which means I can't have the thread call a method on teh socket server to change the status flag. :)
    I guess I need implement some sort of Listener that the thread can notify when a datasource connection goes down?
    Thanks for the help so far, I figured java would not want one thread to catch another thread's exceptions, but I just wanted to make sure.
