Adobe has locked my mchine - PDF Reader wont owrk

I have been running a trial of Adobe XI, which has ended and I do not wish to pay for.
I now want to go back to free PDF Reader, but it will not work.
It loads and seems fine but when you open it, XI returns asking for payment.

    Hi ralphb94045450,
Could you please let me know if you are using the latest patch of Adobe Reader i.e. 11.0.10
Try disabling 'Enable Protected Mode' option under Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) and check if all the markups appear.
    Let me know.

  • How do I get firefox to open a pdf in adobe instead of the new pdf reader?

Before the recent update, 19.0, I would google something and see [PDF] next to a link. I click the middle mouse button to open it in a new tab. Firefox would download the file and open it with Adobe Reader. I like this.
With the new update 19.0, the pdf file would be opened in the new tab. I have to go and down load it and then open it in Adobe. I don't like this.
I go into preferences under applications. I look to see if I can change this. Next to Adobe Reader document, I choose Use Adobe Reader, but when I click on a [PDF] link, it still opens the file in Firefox and not Adobe.
I want it back to the way it was.

You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer and use the Adobe Reader instead.

  • How do I do to register Adobe acrobat as the default pdf-reader in Firefox

I musthave that when I need do download documents

When you download a PDF, Firefox should hand the question of how to open it off to the Android OS. If you are having a problem using Adobe when you access the download (either from Firefox's Downloads list, or the system Downloads folder, or the notifications on the top bar), you may need to clear the defaults from the application that is opening the PDF. This should give you back your choice the next time.

  • How do I make Preview the default PDF reader on Safari?

I reinstalled Adobe and somehow it has become the default PDF reader for Safari. I prefer to use Preview, but I can't figure out how to set it back to Preview.

    ... a 5-10 minute job.
in order to change the default PDF viewer in Safari from Adobee, you need to have root user access!
a bit tedious but really a easy task - see below:
How to enable the root user:
    OS X Mavericks
From the Apple menu choose System Preferences....
From the View menu choose Users & Groups.
Click the lock and authenticate as an administrator account.
    Click Login Options....
Click the "Edit..." or "Join..." button at the bottom right.
Click the "Open Directory Utility..." button.
Click the lock in the Directory Utility window.
Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK.
Choose Enable Root User from the Edit menu.
come up with a password you wish to use in both the Password and Verify fields, then click OK. (you don't have to remember it forever)
then, log out as yourself and log back in as the root user...
at the login screen, the username will be root, and the password will be the one just made up in Step 10 above.
don't set up with icloud or anything - just cancel any popups that ask for keychain or whatever...just get to the desktop screen and then, from the menu bar at the top of the desktop screen...choose the Go menu....now hold down the option key and another choice on the menu (for the library) should show up...
    choose library.
in the search bar at the top right of the finder window for the library folder, type kind:plugin.... the two plugins should show up.   be sure the search is searching the library folder.
after you have trashed the two adobe pdfviewer plugins, empty the trash and log out as the root user ...
    now, disable root user:
    to disable the root user
    OS X Lion and Mavericks
From the Apple menu choose System Preferences....
From the View menu choose Users & Groups.
Click on the lock and authenticate with an administrator account.
    Click Login Options....
Click the "Edit..." or "Join..." button at the bottom right
Click the "Open Directory Utility..." button.
Click the lock in the Directory Utility window.
Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK.
Choose Disable Root User from the Edit menu.
...sorry this explanation is a bit slapdash... hope you've had success... hit me off with a point if it helps!

  • Signed pdf + Reader 9.1 = blank fields (9.0 works fine)

Hi. This is the sequence of events for the problem we are experiencing:
    1. We generate a PDF by merging with an FDF using itext. The result PDF is encrypted and signed.
    2. We had a problem where the encrypted/signed document was properly formatting the fields (i.e. adding the dolar sign to a amount field) but the non signed one did not (showed 0.9 instead of $0.90)
    3. The problem was solved by setting generate appearances to false, and all worked fine with Reader 9.0.X (both signed and unsigned form) BUT
    4. With Reader 9.1.X the signed form comes up blank. The info is there, and can be seen if I allow field modification and I select the field, but neither is visible nor prints. The unsigned form is loaded without problem.
    5. If I open the signed version with reader, go to "signed version", and view the report I see an "4002 PDF content contains errors" message, but it doesn't provide any details about the problems.
    6. I used Adobe Acrobat->Advanced->Preflight to try to find the error, no luck.
    Please, help! Thanks.

This is the biggest problem with my company's windows 7 machines- it not working with adobe
reader. Its an on going thing that I have been trying to “fix.” The issue is
with Windows 7, IE8 and adobe reader, and viewing pdfs on the internet. The blank error message is not consistent.
    Sometimes it works. Sometimes
it doesn’t. Sometimes it doesn’t work and kicks you out of IE. Sometimes you
can view the pdf only if you try multiple times to open it.
I thourhgt I narrowed it down to the adobe dll or add on inside IE. I have been testing “fixes” for a couple weeks now I have been reading about whats
    working for others, but:
    Reinstalling hasn’t worked, as reported
Running Adobe reader 9.3 hasn’t worked, as reported
Running adobe reader in compatibility for vista and as admin hasn’t worked, as reportedRepairing IE8 (which clears out errors with addons) hasn’t worked, as reported.
Reports suggested removing adobe and going with another pdf reader such as Foxit. Foxit works
perfectly for everything but our company specific software- we HAVE to have no less than or greater than Adobe Reader 9.2.x for our other applications to work properly and pdfs HAVE to be displayd in the browser.
Another report suggested installing adobe reader in vista compatibility
mode (different than just running it in this mode). I did this on one
machine tonight and my initial testing of opening browser pdfs was
successful but it "broke" shortly after.
I set a few "problematic" sites (mostly intranet sites) to compatibility view inside IE8. Did not help.
We are also seeing pdfs crashing IE so for IE crashing unexpectedly, we tried removing Windows live software, this has been touch and go, but removing Windows live software did not help completely with IE crashing nor with the blank pdf errors. I also disabled all adobe addons for IE8 thinking that would certainly fix it but it did not as well.
So thats where I am. Anyone have any luck?

  • Pdf reader with text flow / wrapping, for N810

Has anyone installed a pdf reader that allows for text flow (also called wrapping), so that you can magnify a pdf without getting into a left-right scroll situation?  Without this feature it seems impossible to read pdfs on this device, except in a pinch.  If you found one, what app is it and where did you get it?  And are you completely satisfied with it?

  • HT2506 I prefer Preview as my default reader. Somehow Adobe Reader has locked itself as the default. How do I reset back to Preview?

I prefer Preview as my default reader. Somehow Adobe Reader has locked itself as the default. How do I reset back to Preview?

First order of priority - Establish what platform is in use. In this case: MacBook Air with Trac Pad, no Mouse.
Second - Establish Operating System in use. In this case: OX 10.8.3.
Third - Establish, as best as you are able, the parameters in which you have been attempting a work-around and, to include mention of, any other secondary software program capable of becoming a default other than, in this case, Preview.
Fourth - State the problem: Adobe Reader somehow automatically has become the Default PDF viewer.
Here's my answer: When a trac pad not a mouse is in use - Select the PDF you will be opening; don't open it, Select it. At this juncture, tap COMMAND - I (Unfortunately Apple has no Drop Down Menu motion to achieve this operation that I can determine); at this point you will get this:
Click on "Open with: " If you see Adobe Reader there in lies the problem. So, simply click the "up/down" arrows on the Selection Window, and from there click on Preview. From there on Preview will be your Default program.
Thank you to everyone who helped in reply to my initial query.

  • In coded ui how do you correctly retrieve a browser window that contains an embedded Adobe PDF reader in browser

I'am running across this issue when I'm debugging or running my coded UI automation project, where i get the exception labeled "{"COM object that has been separated from its underlying RCW cannot be used." System.Exception {System.Runtime.InteropServices.InvalidComObjectException}"
everytime i come from a browser window that contains a pdf reader embedded in it. This happens every time I retrieve the window and try to click back. It barfs when i perform the back method on it. I've tried different things but none has worked including
    the playback wait.
    var hereIsmypdf = ReturnPDFDoc();
    public BrowserWindow ReturnPDFDoc()
    Playback.Wait(1000);
    var myPdFdoc = GlobalVariables.Browser;
    return myPdFdoc;
    hereIsmypdf.Back();
    skinny_Will

    Hi skinny_Will,
<<"{"COM object that has been separated from its underlying RCW cannot be used." System.Exception {System.Runtime.InteropServices.InvalidComObjectException
According this exception error message, I did some research about it. I know that this exception error is occurred in
COM object which was disposed if you are using the COM objects in a same static class or variables which ware shared between tests.
So please you refer the following blog to use ExecutionThread element to instruct the test to use the MTA threading model. This way, the static instance of "store" can be shared across tests.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/martijnh/archive/2009/12/31/unit-testing-com-object-that-has-been-separated-from-its-underlying-rcw-cannot-be-used.aspx
Note: if you are using the VS2013 to create the coded UI test, you will need to add a test setting file to add this
    ExecutionThread.
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee256991.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
In addition, ad you said that when you playback the browser window that contains an embedded Adobe PDF reader and then it could not work.
I suggest you could try to add more searchproperties to find this target control and then check this issue.
I find a similar thread about your issue, please refer the Steve's code to check your issue.

  • Adobe 8.1.2 crashes PDF; Can't read PDF anymore Mac OS 10.4.11 PPC

Ever since Adobe 7 and Mac OS 10.4.9 I've been updating/installing and still crashes on PDF reads from within Browsers or Adobe itself.
I have an iMac 800 17" (Mac OS 10.4.11 with OS 9.2 PPC) recently maxed RAM 1Gb has backup eDrive by TechTool Pro.
    -still...
Adobe 8.1.2 crashes PDF; Can't read PDF anymore, I usually Google and just "read in HTML" but then can't see pictures.
I've tried removing Adobe 7 preferences from all drives. (move to trash->delete) Acrobat 5 is on the OS 9.2 partition.
I'm not big with the Unix shell commands on Mac OS X, so don't know specific typey things ;-)
    Any ideas???

    >graffiti - 8:09am May 25, 08 PST (#3 of 5)
    >All that is is a reader. Not a replacement for Acrobat.
And it doesn't even work well with forms. Only allows the first page of a form to be filled out.
I reported the problem as a bug, and the designer say its an apple problem. Its not. where area set up to be filled out on pages other than first page, there is an indication it is a fill-out area (Grayed out when clicked on) it does not allow for forms to be filled out. So its not worth the effort to even test.

  • Adobe PDF Reader causing error in Windows 7

    Greetings everyone.
I created a very simple VB.NET windows form application that only has one control, the Adobe PDF Reader. I created this project in both VS 2005 (.NET 2.0) and VS 2010 (.NET 3.5). My developer machine is XP SP3 32 bit. I experienced the same problem with version 8 and 10 of Adobe Reader.
When I compile the application and run the EXE file on my XP machine, everything is fine. I can see the form with the Adobe PDF Reader control. When I try to run the same program on our new Windows 7 SP 1 32 bit test machine, I get a generic Windows 7 error that says "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program" and I never see the form.
Has anybody else had this experience with Adobe PDF Reader on Windows 7?

I appear to have found the solution to the problem RE AcroPDF.dll with Windows 7.
I had Visual Studio 2010 installed on our Windows 7 test machine. I added Adobe Reader to the list of controls. When I tried to add the control to a form I got an error that said:
Failed to create component 'AxHost'. The error message follows: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80004005): Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.
When I researched this error in Adobe's forums, I found another user that basically said I needed to go to the Internet settings, under Preferences for Adobe Reader X, and make sure the box for Display PDF In Browser was checked.
After testing with my applications, this does appear to resolve the problem.
Let me know if anyone has any additional comments. Thanks for the help.

  • Print issue with Adobe PDF reader print in IE9

We are unable to print Brava PDF documents with Adobe PDF reader activeX enabled in IE9. The same runs fine in Chrome with  Adobe PDF reader activeX enabled.
    I noticed Chrome uses
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\AIR\nppdf32.dll, whereas IE9 uses-C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroPDF.dll.
    Has anyone faced this issue?

Can you print other pdf files from within IE9? Can you download the files and print them directly from Reader on you computer? Please list the steps you are using to print the pdf from IE9.
