  • Why does the Adobe Help Manager not close?

I'm not sure what the "Adobe Help Manager" (silly name) is. I notice it as an open application in my toolbar (Windows 7) but you cannot close it. It just stays there. Only goes away when I've restarted my system. Any ideas or comments?
Generally speaking, I'd like to comment that many of the current Adobe programs (including CC) are not nearly as intuitive as they should be. One wastes quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to accomplish rather obvious functions. Usually will have to go online to find an answer. Should be more obvious and clear. The interface of CC (for uploading work files) seems a "clean" design. Yes, clean... and unintuitive.

It's been weeks since I've used the file upload 'cloud' function of Creative Cloud, but I do recall I had to seek out numerous youtube videos, as well as some from Adobe's site, to try and figure out how it worked. Dragging and dropping seemed like a very obvious function, but you have to select: Actions: Download, etc. etc. It's a clunky, dispiriting interface.
So... I just started using google drive instead. I can quickly drag and drop. I work on a PC and a Mac and don't have a shared drive between them (due the usual platform issues) so I like uploading to a cloud server and transferring between the two machines that way. Very nice to compare how the two different systems are displaying an html doc or a photoshop file.
While the wind is at my back, I really like CC as to the software options, but it is a very daunting experience to consider learning new programs. It's taken me fifteen years of work to be  as proficient as I am with PS (as a photographer and designer). I still find Dreamweaver very difficult and obscure in so many ways. I'm sure that's why you created Muse... but I will not take the time required to learn and new program. It's just a face. Remember in the Matrix when you would learn a huge amount of technical knowledge just by plugging into something? That's what we need (ha ha).
Now that Adobe is doing away with the distributive disc system for software programs, perhaps the next great leap is the discontinuation entirely of massive software progams themselves. Have no idea how this would happen, but I think patience is coming to an end for learning huge new software programs. Seems like such a relic of the past now.
Wish Adobe would bring designers more into how their programs work. They all seem to be designed by software engineers, and thus the truly disheartening style of the menues, opening into dozens of submenues, basements, dark vaults, etc. etc. The Adobe interfaces are all uniform now, but it's an old look that goes back almost ten years. Hope the creatives can soon lead to a new approach.

  • Adobe Help Manager won't complete update

Several updates to apply in Adobe Help Manager, yet selecting "update" when it asks me, or even just updating a single module, doesn't complete.  It just sits there on the "Please wait" dialog box.  How can I reset the help manager or kick it out of this "stuck" state?

This has been happening for a while, persistent across reboots.  Rebooting doesn't help.

  • LR4 local content "Not Available" in Adobe Help Manager

I followed the instructions suggested by Sandeep here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4757465, and while this caused LR4 to show up in the Adobe Help Manager, the local content's status for LR4 is given as "Not Available".  What do I need to do to get AHM to download the content for offline help, and to have direct access to it from Lightroom 4?
To me, the functionality of Adobe's offline help solution is completely unacceptable. I have read the forums and these problems have been going on for months.  Built-in help in not a new concept for software applications but Adobe has managed to take something simple and to make it complicated and unusable.  Fixing this really ought to be a higher priority for the company, particularly given the high prices that Adobe charges for its products.
Thanks in advance for any ideas to fix this problem and for letting me vent.
    Michael

    Hi Kirsti,
I was already aware of the option you suggested, but I think you'll admit stopping work in Lightroom, launching a PDF viewer and then finding and opening a standalone Help File is far from optimal.
Thanks for forwarding my message to engineering, but haven't they known about this problem for a very long time?  And if offline built-in help works for the Adobe CS products, how hard can it be to get Lightroom to conform to the same approach.
I've been reading some of the other threads and it is clear that many, many other users have been let down by Adobe's approach to built-in Help across a broad range of products. Maybe all these complaints should be forwarded to Adobe's management team, not just the engineers. This issue clearly deserves much more attention than it has been getting.

  • CS6:  Adobe Help Manager - PDF download/extraction error

Hi - we have received several reports through this forum that some users are encountering an issue when downloading Help reference PDFs through the Adobe Help Manager in CS6.
Problem: Although the application appears to be downloading the Help content, the application hangs during the 'extraction' phase of the process. Further, when users check in their shared documents folder, the PDF files are actually present and unzipped as expected.
Solution:  the application database files and/or corrupt configuration files are likely at fault. To resolve the issue, please delete the following two directories.
    Delete the following directory:
    Windows: %appdata%/chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1
Tip:  To find this directory in Windows, copy the preceding phrase into the Windows Explorer file manager.
    Mac OS: /[user name]/Library/Preferences/chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1
Tip:   To find this directory on Mac OSX 10.7, open the Terminal application and enter the following: "chflags nohidden ~/Library/” and execute.
    And delete this directory too:
Windows : C:\Users\Public\Documents\Adobe\ (Help and PDF directories within)
Mac : \Users\Shared\Documents\Adobe (Help and PDF directories within)
Then simply restart the Help Manager and restart the download process.
The engineering team is continuing to investigate the root cause but the steps above should resovle the issue for the majority of users.  Thanks for your patience while we continue to investigate.

    Hi Mark
I was almost sure that this issue was related to our proxy, so I decided to trace the dialog between HelpManager and our proxy.
I used a HTTP sniffer called Charles  ( demo downloadable here:  http://www.charlesproxy.com/ ) to trace everything.
    Bingo !
HelpManager has some problems talking with the proxy ( authentication issues ).
If you are interessed, I can mail you the log created by my sniffer to allow your engineering team to investigate.
Hereafter are some screen shots of the trace :
As you can see, it's very short :
    1) the first HEAD failed (normal) : the proxy request an NTLM authentication
    HEAD #1 request :
    HEAD #2 answer :
    2) the 2nd HEAD failed :
HelpManager did not respected the NTLM authentication method requested by our proxy !
    HEAD #2 request :
    HEAD #2 answer : error 403 !
    3) then a POST is made :
Failed because the authentication is bad  (not NTLM, as expected by our proxy)
    POST request :
    POST answer : error 403
    4) then a GET is made on the URL :
    http://www.adobe.com/support/chc/update/400/fr_FR/update.xml
This time, the authentication negotiation between HelpManager and the proxy is OK, but the last GET failed : error 404, the requested xml file is not found on your site !
    GET #3 request :
    GET #3 answer : error 404
Mark, I hope these informations will help your engineering team to correct this issue !
Feel free to request complementary information if needed.
    Best regards,
    Didier Nicolas

  • Adobe Help Manager "No adobe products are currently installed"

    Nevertheless I have installed:
. Windows 8 Professional 64 bits English UK
. Adobe Production Premium CS6 English
. Adobe Acrobat Standard X English
    . Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5 French
    . Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4
And when I launch Adobe Help, Adobe Help Manager tells me "No adobe products are currently available".
Does anyone can help me, please?

I have also major trouble with this new help system.  I'm trying to deploy it in a big locked-down enterprise environment.  So what I want to do is to make help only available offline (when users press F1 they don't get bothered with internet connection and other pop-ups, but instead a simple offline help file opens, like in the old days).  So I updated to the most recent help files and selected "Display Local Help content only" in the Adobe Help Manager.  Also I selected "Manually update my locally stored Help content."  (I did all this with a local admin account)
Then when I log on with a regular end user account, and I open for example InDesign CS6 and then press F1, I get an error from Acrobat Pro upon opening the help file "Access denied".  So I searched for that help file and it turns out that those help files are stored in c:\documents and settings\all users\documents\adobe\  I don't know what the policy is in other big companies, but in the case of my client (Electrabel GDF SUEZ) that directory is locked down.  So my first question is: how do I change the location of the offline help files?
Ironhide001: maybe your problem is also access-related?
Second question is: how do I turn of pop-ups from Help Manager saying new help content is available for download, as our end users can't download/install it anyway??
Thanks a lot for your swift feedback Adobe, I have to urgently finish my documentation to describe the setup process because of deadlines.

  • Adobe Help Manager

Has anyone found a way to bypass the need to use Adobe Help Manager to download the PDF help files? I've wasted far too much time trying to get this to work.

Adobe Community Help manager pretty much doesn't work. And it doesn't help that with some applications, Adobe has not made PDF versions of the help files.
See this discussion for what I did to get the Help files to run locally.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5594699#5594699
What makes this even funnier is that some help is avilable online as HTML. Now look to the right of this page where you can view this conversation as PDF.

  • Customising Adobe Help Manager!!

    Hi All,
Can you please help if any options available to customise Adobe Help Manager to auto download the help PDF's so that User invention is not required.

None that I'm aware of. "Auto notify" is an option but not auto download.

  • Help can not update my CS5 on the new PC

Help can not update my CS5 on the new PC

I don't know whether you are running Windows or Mac OS, so I will link you to the  Product updates page.
Look under Photoshop, choose your OS and look under CS5 for the 12.0.4 Multilingual Update (MUL).  You simply download and install.
Adobe Camera Raw 6.7 is the latest and you download and install that.
Under Product updates look for Bridge and apply all updates.
CS5 is quite old and the updater doesn't work as it should so you have do the updates manually.

  • Adobe Help Manager Issue

Whenever I update local out-of-date help files using Adobe Help Manager, they download fine. But then up comes a small dialog saying, "Please wait while the downloaded files are extracted. Extracting large files may take several minutes."
I've let that thing sit there chugging away for two days, and it never goes away, or extracts any files. All I can do is close the dialog and quit. This, of course, leaves me with no new help files.  :-(
Adobe Help Manager Version 4.0.0244 (it says AHM is up to date.) - MacOS 10.6.8 - 1.5 TB disk space available.
    -- Any guidance?

    Hi DrStrik9,
Can you launch Adobe Application Manager from the Applications folder and ensure all updates are installed and then version a new admin account, log out of the current account and into the new one and test whether the same behavior occurs from there?

  • Adobe Help Manager out of order..

    Hi!
My »Adobe Help Manager« that's suppose to keep all reference content updated locally on my computer is really a mess.
I have only local content for two or three programs in my CS6 Master Collection avaliable, I have searched for content on C:-drive but there's nothing except for those three PDFs.
I have Windows 8.1 64-bit and everything's updated even my Adobe Help Manager (see picture below). Why doesn't the program help me at all, have I missed something?
This is what my Adobe Help Manager looks like:
Well, today one week later Adobe Help Manager tells me I have no Adobe Product installed on my computer. That's a lie because I have Adobe Master COllection installed and I want all manuals updated locally on my computer for every program, isn't that the purpose with this program.
Could any of Adobes staff answer this please.
    Best Regards, Petter

I am at work, so I don't have Itunes in front of me. Anywho, you should be able to sort on any of the columns that you have set up in your library or playlist. Just click on the header bar of the column you want to sort on. Is that the issue......

  • About downloading and installing the Adobe Help Manager for CS6

Because the Adobe help manager essentially ceased functioning as part of my Adobe CS6 installation I had to uninstall it. Now I am having great difficulty to locate the Adobe Help Manager on any of the Adobe download sites. Although I have the Adobe media disks for CS6, I don't want to reinstall the entire suit just to get back the Help manager

There is no other way. AHM only comes with teh suite install.

  • My adobe cloud will not update on my iMac.

My adobe cloud will not update on my iMac. Anyone have advice? I need it to work as soon as possible to make a deadline.

Long titles seem to be happening a lot since the last forum software update so it's not just you!
There is no Lightroom CC. You get the latest version (currently 5.4) with Creative Cloud, and so the CC app is correct in stating that your LR is up to date. Unlike Photoshop and most of the other Creative Cloud applications, Lightroom is not branded as "CC" because it's also available separately as a stand-alone perpetual licence product. When 5.5 (or 6.0 - or even a CC-only version) are released in the future, the CC app should prompt you to update and so in the meantime you're good to go.
