I went to Jave and downloaded the latest version of Java 8 Update 31 for Mac, but it still won't open.

You may be able to get round the legacy JAVA requirement as follows:
Create empty folders at “/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk” and “/System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle”, to make Illustrator use Jave SE 8 as it should.

I just installed CS6 Design and Web Premium on my MacBook Pro running OS10.6.8. InDesign opened fine, but in the dock Illustrator and Photoshop have diagonal lines through them. I tried opening Illustrator and got this message: "You can't open the application Adobe Illustrator CS6 because it is not supported on this type of Mac." My MacBook Pro is 3-4 years old--a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, Model Identifier: MacBook Pro1,1. I double checked the OS required by CS6 and it's 10.6.8.

System requirements... Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support
Core Duo processors do not support 64Bit. Essentially, if you can run OS 10.7, then CS6 apps are fine. Your machine won't run 10.7 (due to lack of 64bit support). You need a Core 2 Duo or better. If you do indeed have an Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro, it's much older than 3 or 4 years. The Core Duo MacBookPros were 2006 machines.

Illustrator CS6 won't open on mac

I suddely cannot open Illustrator CS6 on my imac. The message says something to the effect that I should check with the software developers to make sure it works with this version of OS X and that a reinstall may be necessary.
Any thoughts?

Reset the AI Prefs, by hold ing Shift, Option Command immediatley after booting Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator CS6 Won't Open

I have CS6 Master Collection and all of the programs were functioning properly, but now Illustrator wont open. I have a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.9.
When I click to open Illustrator, the icon in the dock bounces once, then stops. The program never displays the loading screen.
Any suggestions?

This seems to imply that something bad has happened. The following is a general list which you may go through unless Kurt comes up with something cleverer.
You may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps (the following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file; 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder Other options (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

Yes, I think that's correct. Apple stopped installing Java as part of the OS after Lion. If you check the installers for Mountain Lion through Yosemite, there are a lot of root Java processes OS X still installs, or Java wouldn't work at all. It's just the actual runtime environment no longer installs. The user has to do that.

What application files? Do you mean the Adobe apps themselves? If so, yes, it's been reported that the CS5 and CS6 apps in particular usually need to be reinstalled after upgrading OS X to Yosemite. That's actually an old problem that isn't a Yosemite only issue.

I have a problem: the illustrator app will not open. I get the pop-up: To open "Adobe Illustrator CS6" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime. Click "More Info..." to visit the legacy Java SE 6 download website.
Both clicking "More Info..." and "OK" only make the pop-up disappear, but lead absolutely nowhere.
From Oracle.com I have already downloaded and installed 'jre-8u25-macosx-x64.dmg'. After install and restart i keep getting the same pop-up as before and i still can't open Ai. Any advice?

I updated from mavericks to Yosemite today which was a very bad idea. I had issues with my internal sound adapter and the system start is now very slow. I might going back to mavericks..
However, I wish the above link you gave here would work. After clicking the blue download button nothing happens. Any other idea how I could go back from my actual java 8-31 back to java 6?

Adobe Photoshop CS6 won't open

Around a month ago I bought the creative cloud plan. I'm paying $10 a month for Photoshop CS6. A few days ago I tried opening photoshop but it won't open. I found out that I had been using the trial the past month, even though I already bought the whole thing. A selection comes up shortly after I try to open photoshop saying "License this Software". I don't know what that means but when I click on it it asks for a serial number. When I bought the creative cloud plan it emailed me a few times confirming my order and thanking me for using creative cloud and everything, but it doesn't say a thing in any of them about a serial number. So I tried doing one last thing.
I went to the Adobe website and went to the apps section and selected Photoshop. I hit download and the Creative Cloud App in the top right of my desktop (I think it's called the menu bar, but I'm not exactly sure) opens up but won't load. I select the apps section but there's a blue loading circle that tells me it's loading but it won't stop. I waited 30 minutes the other day and it still didn't load. And yes my internet connection has been fine lately. I tried restarting my computer, closing other apps and everything else but it still won't load. Thanks for the help guys and please ask if you have any questions about my problem.

Adobe Illustrator CC Won't Open

Hello there. I recently purchased Creative Cloud (roughly 2 weeks ago) and downloaded Adobe Illustrator CC. For the past 2 weeks that I've had Adobe Illustrator, it's worked perfectly fine. But now, for no reason that I can find, it won't open. Everything else Adobe works just fine, but Illustrator won't (for whatever reason). After continuously trying, and it not working, I decided to uninstall it and reinstall it - still doesn't work. I opened up the Task Manager, and saw that it would open up in the background processes, but no matter what I do, it won't actually OPEN. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how do I fix it?
