Adobe Illustrator - Objects & text intersecting problem

I have no idea what I did , but for some when I drag an object next to another object something usually comes out saying intersect, same this with text. Please take a look at the video below.

Si   No"

Suerte

  • Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop Embed problem.

Creating in Adobe Illustrator current booklet as usual was linked Adobe Photoshop files.
At some point of work i have Embed some pictures, select Flatten Layers.
After while I want correct something again in Photoshop.
I find all the layers are flattened!
    How it can be avoided?
    Thank you!

    Try this:
    1) Open random.psd file that has more than one layer in Photoshop. Close file.
    2) Open random .ai file in Illustrator.
    3) Import random.psd file in Illustrator with settings you mentioned before.
    4) Save .ai file and close it.
    5) Go to Photoshop. Open the same random.psd file in Photoshop.
    6) Check that random.psd still have layers.
If my scenario will work, then you have simple mistake. You are trying to open random.psd file from Illustrator (Edit -> Edit Original or Tripleclick). It has the same name as your psd file, but it's not. It's embed picture made from your psd file.
If my scenario is not working, it's a bug and you should contant Support.

  • Adobe Illustrator object Direct or Indirect Select is Slow MBP5,4

ISSUE: Using Direct or Indirect Selection tool on any object in Illustrator CS3 or CS4 is slow (usually presents beach ball). It is an irritation not feature failure. To reproduce, create a new Illustrator file on MacBookPro5,4, (effects RGB or CMYK, all preview and non preview modes), create a line segment, create a square (or any other closed shape), create a text line. Grab the direct selection tool and click on any of the objects. You may not see the slowness on first selection. Now click on any of the other objects. The machine will pause. The existing selection will not disappear. The beach ball will appear and spin. After roughly 2 seconds, the existing selection will disappear, the new selection will be made as expected.
NOTE: strangely, if you do a drag selection (marquee drag) rather than clicking on the object with the selection tool, the delay does NOT occur!

"The problem ONLY occurs on my new MacBookPro5,4. So by all appearances is it a difference in video hardware of software on the new machine."
If that's the case then posting in the Adobe forums should bare that out and you'll have solved your issue. If that's not the case then you'll have solved your issue as well. Either way...

  • Adobe Illustrator CC - Stroke Overprint problem

Hi, I've found probably a bug in Ai CC (mac) which is quite bothersome.
When you have made a vector, say with for example, with a transparent fill and a random CMYK made color line (with a random thickness) and put it on top of a random image or photo and you are enabling the option "Overprint Stroke" then Ai CC won't let you show/see the overprint preview, even if you have enabled "Overprint preview" at the "Separation Preview"-tab.
It only seems to works when you convert your random selected CMYK color into a Spot-Color.
This is quite frustrating as I use that option quite a lot with the designs that need to be printed in a later stage.
It worked fine in Ai CS6.
Hope someone can help me out, because maybe there's been a new setting that I have missed ?!
    Thanks

In Adobe software, "overprint" replaces the rearmost component (color sep) with the frontmost. So in your example, you have a 50% K component replacing a 50% K component. The reason you get what you expect when you change the overprinting object to a spot color is: The spot color is a different component; it has no K component. It prints on an entirely different separation plate.
If you were, for example, to change the overprinting object to 50% C, you would see what you expect with "overprint preview" on, because the result would be 50c50k. And if you made the overprinting object 50c50k, there would be no difference. The total k would still be 50%.
So to get what you want, simply change the overprinting stroke to whatever value of K you wnat it to be. It doesn't need to be set to overprint.
This is, of course, counter-intuitive to what we expect on press, because on a press, an overprint is assumed to occur on a second pass or on a second hit (same pass, different head). In pre-computer days it was quite common to do a "double hit" of K, or a second pass of a solid.
Overprint preview is also often misleading, because Illustrator has no facility for simulating the opacity of inks. It always assumes the translucency of offset process inks. So overprinting a light spot color always darkens even though in reality it often should lighten.

  • Problems with copying between Adobe Illustrator and keynote

I have recently switched from Tiger to Snow Leopard. A lot of my keynote presentations have started acting up since. Many images that I copied from Adobe Illustrator (CS3) are reported as "missing" when I open the presentations. Also, some Adobe illustrator arrangements give keynote problems when I copy them into a presentation now. The problem here is that I can copy them into keynote but then I cannot duplicate them or copy-paste them again. If I save a presentation containing such images and try to open it after closing it, the same problem about "missing" images becomes apparent.
In comparing with other computers used by my colleagues I have established that this does not have anything to do with my computer. It turns out, any machine running Snow Leopard has these problems but any machine running Tiger or Leopard does not. The problem is present in both keynote 4.0.4 and 5.0.4.
In trying to narrow down the problem I found out the following. The problem is text box based. If I copy a text field (or an arrangement containing one of these) from illustrator into keynote and if that text field contains more than one line, and if that line break is mediated by the "shift-return" key combination, the problems I mentioned show up.
Does anyone have the same problems/know a solution? It is quite a major flaw for me, it essentially means I can dump all my old keynote presentations.
    Cheers

    Welcome to the discussions, thetwelfthman.
In copying these from Illustrator to Keynote, I'm assuming that they are pasting into Keynote as a PDF? Also, is there any difference between printing to a PDF then dragging that in and just copying/pasting into Keynote?

  • Adobe Illustrator CS5 groups problem.

I work under windows xp using Adobe Illustrator CS5, and the problem is that when I group a certain objects in an illustration and save that illustration as an *.ai file, then send it to a client that uses MAC the groups are getting jumbled up. The client even sent me a screenshots, and the groups are REALLY jumbled up.
Some objects that i originally grouped together are not in the same group any more, some objects from a certain group that, somehow became part of some other group.
I build my images on one layer with several sublayers.
Can building illustrations with every single group on a separate layer solve this problem? Am I missing something? This is the first time I encounter this kind of problem. Please help.

I don't ever recall this occurring but it sounds like a corruption to me. But I do not know if is on your end or your clients end.
I use a mac and am will to open your file and send you screen shots so you can compare, if I open it fine then the problem is probably with your client?
But they might not like to here this.
You can also try sending them a pdf or a .ps file they can open the .ps file directly in AI without distilling it.

  • The preferences file is corrupt: adobe illustrator cs4

    greetings!
every time i start illustrator i encounter a new error.
"the preferences file is corrupt and has been reset to the default settings."
"the corrupt file will be backed up as Adobe illustrator Prefs.err"
this problem manifested after i added some more .ai and .ase files to my swatches directory. i do not believe anything else changed.
not sure how to diagnose the problem. is there a debug mode or something? perhaps an offending file.
an option would be to try remove each added swatch file or folder individually, but this would e a very very time consuming process for me.
i use cs4 on a Macbook pro running Snow Leopard - 10.6.2 and would appreciate your advice.
    thank you

The problem is that you're not getting rid of the corrupt Illustrator preferences. To do that, go to User/Library/Preferences and drag the entire Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings folder to the trash (or to another drive if you want to keep it for some reason). Illustrator will then create a new Preferences folder the next time it's started. It's unlikely the problem was caused by swatches files, but if the error comes back after deleting prefs, then you'll need to determine which swatch file is causing it.

  • Error report keep getting kicked out of adobe Illustrator

Hi, I am having an ongoing problem with Adobe Illustrator. I keep getting an error message. I keep loosing quite a lot of work, when this happens. I try to keep saving my work regulary, but can't keep on doing this just in case. I am using windows xp sp2
I get the following error report.
    Error Signiture
szAppName: Illustrator.exe szAppVer: 13.0.128.0 szModName: hungapp
    szModVer: 0.0.0.0 offset 00000000
    Reporting details
This error report includes: information regarding the condition of Adobe Illustrator CS3 when the problem occured, the operating system version and computer hardware in use, and the internet Protocol (ip) address of your computer.

No dice. Since your offsets and such are all zeroed, it means that even Windows is unable to track the memory state that is causing this issue. Unless you can point to a more specific condition that may be causing this, there's no way to get to the bottom of this. I would dare a guess that this is unrelated to AI even and is an external influence, so check your firewall, virus scanner and any other tool you may have running...

  • Adobe Illustrator Crashes at Launch in Snow Leopard 10.6.1

I have migrated to a new Mac Pro quad-core 2.97 Xenon from a 2.5 dual core G5. I had been using Adobe Illustrator CS4 without any problems until i tried using it under Snow Leopard. Now it crashes after displaying the toolbars every time. I have completely uninstalled an re-installed Illustrator with no change. I have created a new user and there is no change opening it under a new account either. I have booted in safe mode with no fonts and still no difference. What is there left to do?

  • Trouble selecting and moving objects near text in Adobe Illustrator? Try this.

It's been 4 years since I left Corel DRAW for Adobe Illustrator. One thing I could never get used to is the crazy way text has an impenetrable invisible sheet over it making it hard to select objects near or behind it.
With Corel DRAW I was used to be able to select text by simply clicking on the visible area of the text. Selecting stuff behind the text by clicking between letters or right next to a decender was never a problem. But Illustrator is a different story.
Tonight I finally found a way to make selecting text in Illustrator behave more like Corel DRAW.
    I wrote it up here: http://www.johnstanowski.com/blog/trouble-selecting-and-moving-objects-near-text-in-adobe- illustrator-try-this/
    Just thought I'd share!

It's not spam, but thanks for assuming.
I was up really late writing that blog post. Posting a link was the quickest way to share and be able to go to bed.
Plus it's rather lengthy. I thought that would be rude to use an Adobe forum for my articles.
If you saw my blog you will have seen there's not much going on there at all, and no calls to action to hire me. I don't have anything to gain by getting traffic.
And, yeah, layers work for selecting, but that slows you down. Who would want to look away from their work to find and select a layer when they're trying to tweak positions of objects? Layers suck for selecting quickly.
And there must be something wrong with me but I find using Type Object Selection by Path Only by itself hard to use. I'd really just like to click on the text itself rather than an invisible hairline you have to probe to find.
Here's the post. I hope people who had trouble like me find it helpful.
Do you have trouble selecting objects near Point Type in Adobe Illustrator? You’ve been there. You want to select an object. Problem is, it’s really close to piece of Point Type. All too often we try to select objects that wind up being unreachable because they lie too close to a piece of Point Type, which we wind up selecting instead. Luckily, after years of angst, I discovered a solution.
Point Type in Adobe Illustrator is funny. There’s this invisible “shield” around it. This shield is much larger (at least it seems that way) than the text itself. It prevents you from selecting objects behind text by clicking between letter and words. This shield is particularly meddlesome with lowercase letters and decenders because we think surely we can click on that blue box (or whatever) because it seems far enough away from that Point Type. But the lowercase “g” in the Point Type’s territory.
Okay, now that we know we’re talking about the same thing, let’s move on to the solutions.
Step 1. Check ‘Type Object Selection by Path Only’ in Preferences
You’ll find this option in Preferences/Type. Click it and that nasty text shield goes away. But there’s a price to pay. With this option activated, the only way you can select your text is by clicking on the text path, a super, tiny, thin baseline thingy under all the letters, but above decenders. It’s really hard to grab. To do it right you need to slowly approach the text path with your cursor. When you’re right over it, Illustrator will let you know by adding a small black square to your cursor. Now, you can click, hold and move your text. But this workflow can really slow you down and break your rhythm, maybe even more so with it turned off.
Step 2. Add the ‘Outline Object’ Effect
Select your Point Type and, from under the Effects Menu/Path/, select Outline Object. This effect does something really sweet to text in Illustrator: it lets your Point Type objects be treated as if their were converted to Outlines. You can still edit the text, but as far as selecting it, Illustrator now considers it outlines and shapes instead of a text object. Basically, it now considers the Path of the text to be the text itself! Now, since we’ve already checked ‘Type Object Selection by Path Only’ we can now click on the text to select it. Just the text. Not the baseline, not the wacky invisible shield surrounding it.
And now… you can select things behind the text by clicking between words and letters. And the ONLY way to select Point Type is to click on the visible parts of the text itself! Problem solved.
    Potential Problem:
Too much of a good thing could be a bad thing. Let’s say you have some Point Type set in a very light face and it’s pretty small or you’re zoomed way out. Selecting that text could be a problem since you have to actually click on the text itself. Actually it isn’t that hard, it may just require an extra click to grab it. If you have a set of smaller, light-faced bits of text, you can elect to just not apply the Outline Object effect to these. They’ll get their ‘shield’ back and be easier to click on. And since they’re so small, they don’t pose a problem with selecting things behind them anyway.
Applying this technique to your old files
Now that you’ve learned this awesome new way to work around type in Illustrator, you may be anxious to open yesterday’s project and get back to work. But you may be not be looking forward to applying the Outline Object effect to each and every piece of type. For this you can use Illustrator’s “Select Same” feature. Select one piece of text. Then from the Select Menu click on Object/Text Objects. Now ALL of your text objects will be selected, and you can apply the Outline Object effect to all of them at once!
That’s it. If you build ads or work with a lot of type in Illustrator, you’re about to be able to work a lot faster… and happier.

  • Ps CS6 Problem: Incorrect rendering of pasted Adobe Illustrator vector objects

    Ps CS6 v13.0.1
    OS X 10.6.8
Problem: Ps CS6 incorrectly renders vector objects pasted from Adobe Illustrator. CS5.1 does not exhibit the problem.
Below is screenshot of artwork in Illustrator and which is copied to clipboard, followed by screenshot of "Paste as Smart Object" in Ps CS5.1 then screenshot of same paste in CS6. "Paste as Pixels" gives identical good rendering in CS5.1 and poor rendering (gray pixels which should be pure white in this example) in CS6. This is repeatable with other artwork.
Several weeks ago there was a complaint in this forum that Photoshop CS6 poorly renders vector artwork that is pixel-aligned in Illustrator. The Adobe response was that Photoshop is correct. Strange that CS5.1 can render pasted vector artwork perfectly and only CS6 makes a mess.

What's the explanation for the following sequence?
    1. Paste as Smart Object, at moment after pasting and before clicking the commit icon (no transform was made) in options bar. The object is rendered pixel-perfect.
    2. After the commit. The object is poorly rendered with gray pixels which should be white.
    3. Press Cmd+T for transform mode. The object is rendered pixel-perfect again.
    4. After canceling transform mode, the object is poorly rendered again.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS5 Language Problem

Hi there, I'm trying to use different  languages in Illustrator for text labels but when I paste the Korean/Arabic/other language into the text box it all just appears as a bunch of squares. Can anybody help me make the text appear as it should?

Platform? Oh you mean Operating System, I'm using Windows 7 Professional - 64 bit. I'm able to paste the korean text in with one of the symbol fonts selected from the list but I can't seem to find any options that will accept arabic or punjabi. I tried Adobe Arabic and Traditional Arabic regular (they sound like they should work) but they didn't work and there doesn't seem to be any options written in Arabic. I've tried adding these two languages to my keyboard input through the control panel --> clock, language, and region --> region and location --> keyboards and languages --> change keyboards then adding the languages there and while I can type in those languages in open office word, notepad and online Illustrator refuses to accept the text. I thought that with this being the latest version (CS5) I wouldn't have any problems like this

  • Adobe Illustrator crash problems

    Hey everybody,
Having problems with Illustrator on my MBP. Had an older version for several months (pretty sure it was version 10). Worked OK except for some random crashes every now and again. Then crashes started happening more frequently until I could no longer open the program.
Removed version 10 and tried installing CS2 version of illustrator. Installs fine but I've never been able to open it. Crashes every time during launch. Have tried making a new user and installing it there. Same result. Deleted all Version Cue files I could find and reinstalled. Same result.
Have all the latest updates from Apple including Quicktime 7.1.2
Below is the first part of the crash log (not sure how much of it to copy in). Thanks for any help.

    Hi Ken,
Thanks for the suggestion. I did as you said but could not find a process called "translated" in the activity monitor.
Were you having the same type of problem with Illustrator (crashing on startup)?
I should also say that I made another attempt at installing Illustrator CS2 after deleting every Adobe related file on my computer (including Photoshop CS which I had been using without issue).
This improved things a bit in that CS2 no longer crashes immediately as it starts up but instead makes it at least part of the way through the initialization process before crashing (can get it to go all the way through "updating fonts"). But it still never makes it all of the way through start up.
Also, since my last post I've tried opening it after Safe Booting and this doesn't work either (actually it doesn't even get as far as detailed above).
What do you all think? I'm thinking that a clean reinstall of the OS might be the only option left.

  • How do you make the background of an object transparent in Adobe Illustrator?

    Hello Forum.
How do you make the background of an object transparent in Adobe Illustrator?
I have been having issues with using the Magic Wand tool in Adobe Illustrator as well as the lasso tool.
Basically, I am trying to put a small graphic into a new Illustrator file.
The first thing I tried to do is to use the magic wand tool.  But I found out that this did not work on a jpeg image since it did not have any individual objects to select.
So I tried something new.  I opened the file in Adobe Photoshop and used the lasso tool to select an area.  Then I coped this area.  Then I tried to paste it into Adobe Illustrator.  But the background was not transparent for the pasted image.
How do I make the background transparent.
I made this small video to show what I am talking about:
    http://youtu.be/2LgMGEF6z10

    Don't Copy/Paste the image.
Make it transparent in Photoshop, save a PSD and place it in Illustrator
