Adobe imposed document prints once only

Hi,
Printing a 100 page 25 sheet imposed 8.5 x 14 Adobe Acrobat document is limited to only one copy. At the end of the first copy printing; printer stops and requests letter-size paper, for drawer one,
printer default is set for 8.5 x 14 and first print ran from drawer 2.
Older CS 2 imposed files, printed from IDCS2 still print multiple copies on HP 4200 duplex. The new Adobe work flow for page imposition yields a pdf file to be printed from Adobe Acrobat.
OS is 10.5.8 iMac duo core intel.
Work flow is Adobe InDesign CS5 book > flight test clear > .pdf > open with Acrobat 9.3.2 > impose with Quite Imposing > save imposed pdf > prints only one at a time
then printer stops and asks for different paper size in different drawer.
Specifically : Prints one copy means 25 sheets duplex is completed perfectly, starting the next set of 25 sheets (one document copy) is when the printer stops and asks for different paper from different drawer.
note : Evidence points to the printing control panel of CS 5.
Older imposed Adobe InDesign CS2 document opened by InDesign CS5 also will only print one document copy of 25 sheets±. Attempting to over-ride the Adobe InDesign CS5 panel for printing by selecting four copies there does not help. In other words, printing an old InDesign file from InDesign CS5 yields the same problem as printing a new InDesign CS5 imposed, saved as pdf and printed from Adobe Acrobat 9.3
Adobe forums report similar unsolved printing problems with InDesign CS4.

I'm running 10.6.4 on my laptop and updated all my Adobe software so I could put 10.6 on my iMac, too. The reason I'm posting here is that there does not seem to be an answer for this on the Adobe forums and I hope an experienced Mac user will have encountered it and suggest a solution. The Adobe forum on this subject for CS4 is over 7,000 views and 50 responses with the problem still not solved, now I amexperiencing the same or similar problem on CS5 and hope someone here has a work around.

    Hi kostby,
I'm sure you completely answered my question, I only checked helpful because my own thick skull is blocking a full appreciation of your brilliant insight.
Sadly, I'm away from my printer for another couple of weeks, even so, this shouldn't stop me from understanding what you are saying a little better.
I downloaded and went through the file from HP and it looks to me like the obvious default HP position is one copy. Am I clear in assuming from this, and your explanation, that the CS5 software engineer has overridden my command to print four ? I am making this assumption because the default is for long edge binding and I select short-edge legal-size duplex with legal size being my default size for the printer. Thus, the change in paper size and drawer location remains a mystery.
I often print four to five copies because that is a convenient stack for my aging cutter, any number greater than one is nice because I can avoid being in the room with the printer and breathing ink dust.
I am not sure how to send the print job to a file so I can open it with BBEdit and inspect the specific commands, this is very interesting to me. Though I'm at this point without the full skill set to master using this great knowledge. Also, over the years, I've found that I don't fully retain lessons once learned but rarely used, but that's a different and perhaps personal problem.
    Thank you very much,

    Hi Garrett,
I'm glad your back in production. As for the issue you're having with the printer you'll have to contact HP or Adobe.
Quite Imposing Plus doesn't Print, it just imposes the PDF pages and Acrobat is the Printer.
I'll send this off to Engineering to see if they have any other thought why it might be doing this. However, if all the pages are the same size and the orientation is the same, I've never heard of Acrobat and HP not printing correctly.
    cheers,
    Charles

    Subject: One copy only
Hi Charles, I have a second printer related symptom you might wish to know. Printing is limited to only one copy. At the end of the first printing; printer stops and requests letter-size paper, for drawer one, printer default is set for 8.5 x 14, first print ran from drawer 2. Older imposed files from CS 2, not qi, still print multiple copies on HP 4200 duplex, slow yet reliable, and repairable. OS 10.5.8 iMac duo core intel. CS5 with Acrobat 9.3.2 Luckily, I'm probably the smallest international publisher on planet earth. Not so luckily, with eleven years of untrained habits. Anyway, I figured I should run this by you first. Thanks for putting me back in production. Cheers, Garrett PS > The auto rotate and center function on/off selectors are grouped as one, Acrobat print dialog; result in preview is vertical instead of landscape, one page rather than two.

  • Adobe Reader X: print to HP Plotter only on A4 Paperformat possible

    Hi,
after installing Adobe Reader X  I cannot print any other paper format than A4 to my HP designjet Plotter 750c (E/A0).
Changing Paper Format in printer driver has no effekt in the printing dialog of Adobe Reader X.
Printing from Adobe Reader X to my other Printer Ricoh MPC2050 I can change between A5 to A3 without Problems.
With the old version Adober Reader 9.xx this was no problem and I could print all paper formats HP750c Plotter supports.
Adobe Reader X runs hier on a Windows XP system. Other software like autocad works well with HP750c Plotter with als supported paper formats.
HP Plotter Designjet 750c driver for Windows XP has version 4.65 (latest german version on HP website)
Has anybody any Ideas, where there ist the Problem?
    Thanks for your help

I have just found this post and am still experiencing this problem, still, even after updating to 10.1, and still trying the disabling of Protected Mode at startup. I am running Windows 7, 32bit version. I am trying to print to an HP 4500 series plotter, on ARCH size D (24x36). Once I set all of my settings and hit print, I receive two dialogue boxes. One says "The document could not be printed." Once you click "OK", a second box pops up that says, "There were no pages selected to print." However, under "Print Range", I had "All" selected.
All worked fine before updating to Acrobat X.
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Adobe Reader X prints large black spots in large documents

I have a user with Windows XP SP3 and Adobe Reader X.  When he prints a catalog with images, it randomly prints large black spots throughout the document.  If I print one of the individual pages that had black spots, it prints fine.  Are there any known issues that would cause this or does anyone have any suggestions?  He is printing to a Toshiba eStudios 5520c copier.  No one else has the problem printing to this printer but, he is the only one using Adobe Reader to print catalogs to this printer.  Everyone else printing catalogs to this printer use at least Adobe Pro of some version (the versions differ between users).  I have increased the size of the page file and reinstalled the printer driver.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks for providing the information.
Could you please try and reinstall the printer driver on this user's machine and see if it solves the issue.
Also, do all PDFs with images produce the same output from this user's machine?
Would it be possible for you to share any such PDF? I have sent you my email address as a Private Message.

  • Adobe 8.1.2 Windows 2003 - Parts of Document Printing Black

We have an issue that appears to only be showing up on machines running Adobe 8.1.3 (these machines happen to also be running Windows Server 2003).
When we try to print a specific document, the first page of the document prints fine, however, a specific part of the second page prints rather strange. A 'box' on the second page (a third of the width, and about a quarter of the height, at the very top and center of the page) will print mostly all black, and will have two stripes of area that will print fine.
It's very strange. Unfortunately, I cannot scan this document in currently.
When we preview this document via print preview, it previews fine.
When we print it from Windows XP using Adobe 9, it prints fine.
I have seen some known issues with printing from Adobe 8, however, I've not seem any direct references to this issue specifically. Has anyone else?
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
Unfortunately, simply updating these machines to Adobe 9 isn't an option at this time. Hopefully it will be in the future.
Thanks in advance for any information!

I'm getting the same issue on some of the computers at my work.
We're all using Acrobat Standard 8.2.2 and Windows 7.
I'm not 100% whether the files have been created in In Design but they certainly look like they probably have.
Seems like Acrobat 8 (and various updates since) are not very compatible with Windows 7. I've been having plenty of headaches since we upgraded the operating systems 2 weeks ago.

  • Error message in Adobe Pdf in printer device panel when trying to create a pdf document.  I have CS3

Error message in Adobe Pdf in printer device panel when trying to create a pdf document.  I have CS3 Web Premium with Acrobat Professional 8.  I use it fine on my old computer with Windows XP.  I recently got a new laptop with Windows 7.  I installed all my Adobe programs, and I think they are working.  When I look at Adobe PDF in the device section of the Control Panel it looks okay.  But when I try to print a Word, Photoshop, or HTML page in PDF, nothing happens.  I have tried printing both as File>print and using the PDF tab on the top menu bar.  I look at the device in the control panel and it has the yellow error warning symbol and suggests trying to troubleshoot.  I look at the document list and it says status "error".  When I try troubleshooting Windows suggests doing some Home Sharing and also suggests canceling the document I'm trying to print.  I tried re-installing just Acrobat 8 from CS3 (and have to use Photoshop CS4 disk for shared documents I guess).  I ran into a can't locate adobepdf_dll file, so did a web search on this issue and found a suggestion that I find and use the adobepdf_dll_64 file and may have to (I did have to) remove the "_64" for it to work.  I think I successfully reinstalled using that dll file- no errors came up anyway.  But still when I try printing/converting a photoshop, webpage, or word document into pdf, the pdf device in control panel still gives the error status on the document and gives the same troubleshooting advice.  Help?

I just compared the properties between the two computers.  On the old computer it has the port as "My Documents/*.pdf".  On my new computer it lists the port as "LPT1".  I tried changing the port to "Print as File", but when I try printing a photoshop picture as pdf, I get a "Access Denied".  I then tried to create a new port on the device control panel.  I tried to create a local port "My Documents/*.pdf" port but was denied.  I ten tried to create a new port type and control panel asked for an INF file.  I wonder if this is where my problem lies.  Thoughts?

  • How do I setup my printer to print with only black ink in a pages document

How do I setup a document to use black ink only in Pages?

This is a Printer setting, rather than a Document one.
For my Canon Inkjet, it's done in the Print Dialogue:
As you can see from the second pop-up menu, I have saved this setting as a preset.
The setting itself has only a single change from the supplied "Standard" setting—checking the Grayscale Printing checkbox.
Going by appearances, the printer uses only the Black cartridge when printing in this mode, unless I have set "Use color cartridge" in the printer's utility software, a setting intended to allow you to print using only one cartridge when the other is out of ink. Greyscale printing using only the colour cartridge has less contrast, and usually shows a colour cast. Setting the printer utility to specify using only the K cartridge shows results essentially the same as those done in grayscale using the Print dialogue setting and not bothering to change the printer utility setting.

PDF files have to be specially enabled for you to save the contents. It appears the old version of these files had this capability, but the new version does not. Without Acrobat you will be unable to save the files. If these are truly government files, you can try going to the government's website and see if you can download a copy that will allow you to save the form field data.
