Adobe InDesign 5 won't print Adobe PDF (Acrobat Pro 9) completely.

I just bought a new Dell XPS 14 with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I installed my CS Standard 5.0 and amongst a few other bugs with InDesign, I cannot print documents as PDFs. Only the first few pages will print.
I looked for an update and can't find anything...I am looking for recomendations as I have a draft due to a client.

Is the problem that you can't print the PDF (which is not an ID problem), or that you are trying to print your ID file to PDF and that fails? If the latter, do you see an error message of any sort? And why do you feel you must print to PDF instaed of Export?
Have you installed all the patches for the Suite?

  • Still waiting for a response from Adobe regarding the post "Printing a pdf from a marked-up pdf".

Still waiting for a response from Adobe regarding the post "Printing a pdf from a marked-up pdf" dated 15 Dec 2012 9:20 AM.

Look everyone that comes here with a support problems has gone through all the normal channels, around and  round in circles with no one seeming to be interested. They've called every phone number, every email address they can find. They have been put on hold and bounced fifty times to another operator only to be hung up on. If Adobe would bring back support to main land and have people that know what's going on instead of having people that people can barely understand read from scripts. Scripted information only applies about 10 % of the time. I'm just giving people an alternative. after they have torn their hair out going the normal route.  If they had been able to get a solution they wouldn't be coming here for help.
There should be a forum set up just for people to air these issues and Adobe employees forced to man it. Then we wouldn't have to have such a Bad attitude. Right now Adobe's Support reputation is worse than Intuit's which did have the absolutely worse on the Planet. Now they are number 2.
You know it yourself that Adobe's support is absolutely worse than terible. However to prevent me from being banned from the forums I will simply will provide the adobecare email address from now on
So let's sweep it under the rug.

  • HUGE BUG printing Booklet from Acrobat Pro 11.0.10

I spent an hour chatting with Adobe support in India. They could not solve this issue.
I submitted a BUG REPORT at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
    Here is the BUG Report:
    ******BUG******
    Concise problem statement:
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Export individual pages from InDesign as pdf (16-page booklet, each individual page is 5-1/2" x 8-1/2")
    2. Open pdf in Acrobat Pro 11.0.10
    3. Choose actual size, then choose booklet, and print. (printer contains letter-size paper, and page set-up is set to 100% scale.)
Results: The printed booklet is the WRONG SIZE! The pagination is correct as usual, but each individual page is being REDUCED, and now each page image is too small, and there is now a GAP between pages, and the entire booklet is useless. If you can, please see case number: 0186447426: support chat: it covers everything we have tried so far ... (We tried everything they could think of, but all attempts failed.) This bug was introduced somewhere along the line with Yosemite.
Expected results: As usual, when printing booklets from Acrobat Pro, we expect the print to be the right size, the same size as the InDesign doc, and as it has been printed previously by Acrobat Pro prior to Yosemite. Thanks for fixing this disaster of a bug. Please contact me if you need further info, copies of the individual page pdf, etc.
I am literally stuck. I can go through the laborious process of using InDesign to "print booklet" to a postscript file and use Distiller to make the booklet pdf, but under Yosemite, I am prevented from installing print drivers unless that printer is locally available on my network. Unfortunately, the printer is located at my client's place of business.
I realize there is typically a leap-frog effect between operating system updates, hardware, and application updates, but combined with other Yosemite issues, this Acrobat Pro bug is killing my business.

DrStrik9 (sounds a bit poisonous to me!),
The issue, regrettably, is that Acrobat is performing as designed. And it has nothing to do with either MacOS 10.10 or anything new or different with Acrobat 11.0.10 (versus earlier versions going all the way back to the initial implementation of the booklet printing feature). And this isn't directly a printer driver issue, either! The same behaviour occurs both on MacOS and Windows.
The problem, simply stated, is that the Booklet print option in Acrobat (and Reader) is attempting to avoid loss of content due to the paper's non-printable margins. The scaling factors in the Size print option are not utilized at all in the Booklet print option. The Booklet print option attempts to fit two logical pages of your PDF file into the printable area of each physical sheet of paper. Assuming that your printer's Letter page is defined as having a printable area of 8"x10.5" due to a 0.25" non-printable area surrounding the page, then the Booklet print option will force each of the 5.5"x8.5" pages of your PDF file into a  5.17'x8" area centered on each half of the 8.5"x11" printed sheet.
There are three workarounds that I know of:
    (1)    Many high end printers have booklet printing capabilities in the printer or printer driver itself. Check the detailed driver options to see whether in fact your printer / printer driver does support a booklet printing option. If so, try that first. That would likely solve your problem.
    (2)    Assuming that this is a PostScript printer, edit the .PPD file for the printer you are using to to modify the specification of the Letter printable area. In the PPD file, you will see an entry similar to this:
        *ImageableArea Letter/Letter: "18 18 594 774"
    or
        *ImageableArea Letter/US Letter: "18 18 594 774"
Edit the entry to change only the four numbers as follows:
        *ImageableArea Letter/Letter: "0 0 612 792"
That indicates to the PostScript driver that there is no unprintable border on your pages. Then save the .PPD file. I would then suggest rebooting and then trying to print. Note that the side effect of this is that Fit and Shrink oversized pages options will not take into account the non-printable area of your printer.
Note that a similar hack can be done with Ledger (i.e. 11"x17") page descriptions in the PPD to fix a similar issue affecting printing 8.5"x11" pages to 11"x17" sheets as booklets.
    (3)    There are some very reliable third party plugins for Acrobat that provide full advanced document imposition capabilities, creating what are known as printer flats as a new PDF file from your logical pages. There are n-up, booklet, step-and-repeat, etc. options galore in such packages. Examples include Quite Imposing and PDF Snake. I have personally used Quite Imposing for nearly 15 years for this purpose and can vouch that it works beautifully. I don't have personal experience with PDF Snake, although it is less expensive.
Good luck and let us know if any of this helps you at all!

How to do selection of the Matt Black/ Photo Black in the print setup of Acrobat Pro (for an Epson 7890) ? Selection of the media ?

Acrobat's print dialog doesn't deal with hardware-specific features, for that you have to click on the "Properties" button next to the dropdown printer selection field.

Please help me!! I have Windows 8.1 and Adobe CS6 creative Suite. Adobe Acrobat x just quit, It won't open anything and it wont print to PDF. I need this for work!

Typically, the repair is done from the Control Panel>Programs & Features. In the future, try that route. Glad you found something that worked. When you do come to the forums for help, you may not get an immediate response, but may have to wait for someone familiar with your issue happens to check the forum, possibly after work. In any case, glad you have a working product again.

  • Adobe 8 Professional won't print as pdf

I've installed, and re-installed the program but cannot make the pdf be the print driver in Adobe or as a printer.  I'm using Windows 7 and a 64 bit processor---and wonder if there's something I need to repair/change or just switch to pdf creater to make pdfs work.  I can read pdfs and work within acrobat but I love the printing capability to be paperless.
    Please help.

Update AA8 to the latest version, particularly with the X64 system. Some have reported AA8 working with Win7, but I am not sure about the X64 system.

  • Acrobat Pro XI Mac won't print a .pdf file, but Apple Preview will print correctly

    Hello,
I have Acrobat Pro XI for Mac.  recently I've run into pdf files that will show the document on screen ok, show up on print preview screen ok, but when I send it to a printer I either get:
    1.  no printout... the document passes through the printer queue ok, but nothing comes out (no blank paper, nothing).  no data seems to even reach the printer/print server.  no error.  the print job basically vanishes into thin air like the job was never sent
    2.  prints out with all the characters of a text substituted with squares (again, no error. just prints squares instead of text)
But when I print the same document using Apple's Preview program on the same machine, the file prints out fine.
I experience this problem with two different Macs, with two different OS versions.  Again both machines will print the .pdf file fine using Apple Preview, but not with Acrobat Pro XI.
I've searched for this problem, but no one seems to have this problem. I've tried just printing one page, etc., and no difference (won't print, or print wrong using Acrobat, but prints fine using Preview)
the files are typically sent via e-mail from a vendor, or a web downloaded form (invoice, forms filled out.  some are secure, some are not).  and these are from multiple sources.
Any ideas what might be the problem, and how to fix this?
    system:
Mac Pro (early 2008) and MacBook Pro (mid-2011)
MacOS 10.8.4 and 10.6.8 (multiple computers have this same problem)
    Acrobat Pro XI, 11.0.04
printer: HP LaserJet 5MP (yes.. old.. but it works) via HP JetDirect + print server on  LAN

I just found this solution on another board, I tried it  (I removed the same file listed below) and it worked for me....
Safari won’t save or print PDFs: how to fix

If Safari won’t save or print PDFs (but views them without any problems), you probably have an Adobe PDF plug-in installed. In Safari, go to Help->Installed Plug-ins and do a search for “PDF.” If you have anything with “PDF” in it other than “WebKit built-in PDF,” that is probably the culprit.
On my computer, the problem was “AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin”. To remove it, I quit Safari, did a Spotlight search (Command-Option space) for that file name, and then dragged it to the trash. When I restarted Safari, I could print and save PDFs again. You can also manually find the plugins by going to the system “Library”  folder (the one at the root of your hard disk, not in your user folder) and looking in the “Internet Plug-Ins” folder.
    I’m on OS X 10.8.2, running Safari 6.0.2 (8536.26.17).

  • InDesign won't print all files in "Book" to PDF

I have 69 .indd files created in CS5 (ver7) that are part of a "book". I have been trying to "print" this book to PDF so I can submit a single PDF to the commercial printer. I do this all the time and have never had problems like this, but this is a new publication.
Here is what happens: I select all the files defined in the book, then click on the "Print the book" icon. After InDesign gathers all the document information, I select my Print Preset, with "Adobe PDF" as the printer, then print. After processing a few moments, I save the file, and InDesign/Acrobat starts processing the PDF. The complete book is 542 pages, but the PDF file pops up as completed with only about 38 pages processed; in the meantime, InDesign/Acrobat is still processing the files, but results in no new PDF file created.
I have rebooted and the problem has persisted.
In addition to this, another problem has cropped up and I wonder if it is somehow related. Parts of a master page (page heading) mysteriously appear on a page defined by another master page. There is no way to delete this unwanted heading, even if I "Override All Master Page Items".
    Any help is appreciated.

I would recommend exporting the book to PDF rather than printing to PDF....
Master objects from a different master might be appearing if they are on the other half of a master spread that is applied to the other half of the document spread and they touch that side of the master as well as being on the half not in use. Check the master in questina and be sure that the objec is not crossing the gutter.

  • Problem using Adobe InDesign CS5 to prepare a PDF to upload to Magcloud:

I’m using the 30-day trial version of Adobe InDesign CS5.
I’ve downloaded the Magcloud template, created a document using InDesign CS5, exported it to PDF and uploaded it to Magcloud. Magcloud rejects my upload, saying it has the wrong number of pages. For example, if I create a 24-page document in InDesign, Magcloud thinks it has only 13 pages – front and back covers, plus 11 two-page spreads.
Details, please, on how to export from InDesign CS5 so that Magcloud will see the same number of pages that InDesign does.
    Thanks,
    RC

Sounds like you exported to PDF (Interactive) instead of choosing PDF (Print) from the dropdown or using one of the Print presets from File > Adobe PDF Presets...

  • Adobe Reader won't print in web browser when both Reader & Pro installed

Several of our machines have Acrobat Pro 10.1.4 installed and they also had Reader 10.1.4 installed but when Reader got upgraded to version 11 now PDFs opened in web browsers will not print.   Seeing as it is fairly common for computers to have both Pro and Reader installed I do not understand why Adobe cannot account for their own products and conflicts.   I was hoping to avoid having to uninstall Reader 11 from the machines affected so I would appreciate if there is anything I can have the users do to remedy this?

    Gemini146...
I've ran into many, many, many circumstances like these and if the uninstall from add/remove does not work, what I would recommend is for you to delete the directory c:\program files\adobe and c:\program files\common files\adobe
Then try the installation of what ever version you want. The install should proceed.
If not (which had always been rare for me) then the next step I would advise (since windows installer clean utility didn't work)... is to go into the registry
(regedit) and click on Edit, find
    type in: adobe reader
    or        adobe
and search the entire registry and delete each entry that it finds associated with Adobe Reader only
Of course, you need to know how to differentiate between what's for Adobe Reader and what's for Adobe Acrobat (granted that you do have Acrobat installed)
Is there risk involved with this method? Yes... but if you know your computer and know your way around the registry, you should be fine.
Also, make a backup of your registry as well as create a Restore Point before doing all this. Just to be on the safe side.
Then proceed with re-installing Adobe Reader and you should be ok.

  • Upgraded from xp to windows 8.1. I reinstalled office 2007 and Adobe CS3. Cannot print to pdf.

I recently upgraded from Windows XP PRO  to Windows 8.1 64 bit professionsal. I reinstalled Microsoft Office 2007 Professional and Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium.
Office no longer prints to PDF, and Acrobat does not open Office documents. I did extract the AdobePDF.dll_64 from the data.cab file, changed the name to AdobePDF.dll and used it in the install of Acrobat 8.0.
Is there a solution to this problem?
    Thanks for any help.
